GMAIL Setup

I have setup several accounts with my mac email client but when I try to add gmail as an account using Incoming pop.gmail.com and my user name and password I get a message to check my user name and password( which I have) and that I may not get any messages. Am I missing something? Always been very easy to setup accounts so I suspect some sort of google issue or I'm doing something wrong.
Thanks hpr3

Have you done all the things described here? Be sure to follow all the links and tabs (Overview   Getting Started   Verify Settings   Common Errors   Troubleshooting    Other Issues). This link is for Apple Mail 3.0 (Leopard) pop setup. Seems like it'd all apply except for a few differences in the setup GUI but insofar as the actual settings and server info goes, seems like taht'd be the same. I found this for apple mail 2.0 (Tiger) for setting up an imap account. Most likely error that I would suspect, not knowing precisely what data you entered during the configuration and setup phase, is that the username includes "@gmail.com" as part of it.

  • Gmail Setup Failed!! Help!!!

I just got an iphone yesterday and i LOVE it. So much better than my old At&t 8525 which froze 20 times a day. The only problem I have been having though is with my Gmail setup. I click the Gmail button and enter my @gmail.com address and my password. It tries to connect and tells me that it cannot connect through SSL, so I try without and it says that network isn't responding. I am using an original Gmail account, not forwarding another email accounts mail through gmail. Any ideas?

I already have my POP settings enabled in my account. Still doesn't work

  • Nokia e72, gmail setup + syncing contacts and cale...

    My objective was to
    1) get my contacts into the phone from this account, as I had on my old windows mobile device
    2) set up my gmail account on my new nokia e72
    1) getting contacts from gmail into the phone.
    Go here:
    http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=147951
and carefully do whatever is instructed.
*This works for calendar also (I assume you will want your google calendar to come into the phone, and sync thereafter. But all-day entries on google become 24 hour entries, modified by your timezone (eg xyz birthday, 15 mar 2010 5.00 am to 16 mar 2010 5.00 am). Otherwise the calendars seem to sync ok therafter (didn't spend much time there).
*This does not work for tasks. (read the google sync instructions carefully for nokia. but not for tasks, or for email bodies (though email headers sync, and you can probably create and send, and delete etc your email on the phone)
*This does not work email either, ie you can see the message headers, but can't see the bodies of emails on the phone.
The explanation for this I found after much digging is that Mail for Exchange on Nokia is actually meant for Microsoft ActiveSync servers, and Google is providing limited sync facilities using this ....system. (correct me if I'm wrong). See the datasheets on Nokia Europe websites about Mail for Exchange.
Over all, a pity, but you can't blame Nokia. As for Google (in whose hands further improvement lies for MFE playing nice with google mail), I hope, and believe they will make things better here (unless they lose their interest in it like they did with google gears).
2)Now getting your email from gmail into your nokia E72: Here Nokia is at fault, and a serious deficiency. I went to email setup in the menu's and started the wizard to create a new account. It seemed to have preconfigured setups for common email providers like gmail, yahoo etc. I started the gmail set up wizard, keyed in my username and password, then waited 5 seconds, and the screen went back to the previous one. This kept repeating, every time I tried. Tried everything: checked internet connectivity (wifi), closed all other apps including the MFE I had set up earlier, switched off and on the phone, everything short of standing on my head. So what works? How do you set up a personal gmail account on your nokia e72? go here:
    http://www.techniqx.com/2010/02/workaround-for-configuring-gmail.html
(I paste that text here in case that page is removed:
"The email software in Nokia E72 still has lots of bugs. To configure your Gmail account, it’s not as easy as selecting Gmail and entering the credentials. That simply won’t work as there is a bug. Instead, workaround is to select “Other” and enter a false id like [email protected], this will take you to the next page to select the type. Select “POP/IMAP”. Now, you will get an option to enter your credentials and modify advanced settings. Here change your email id back to [email protected] and enter the credentials as mentioned here> (the gmail site for imap manual setup):
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78799
And you have gmail set up. Quite inelegant process of setting up gmail on this nokia phone, I would say.
Nokia, please iron out the bugs and inconsistencies in your flagship models' primary functions. Otherwise the phone functions very well, the interface is nice and attractive. And while the bugs are still there, please put up the limitations and  the workarounds if any prominently. Nobody expects 100 % perfection.

I had a number of problems setting up Google Apps with my E72 phone. Mail, Calendar and Tasks were not syncing.
    Mail
I have spent far too long setting up google apps to sync properly with my new E72 (latest software installed). It really is a superb phone but if Nokia is not going to fully support integration with Google Apps with a simple app then Android and Blackberry will simply take over for Apps users. It really isn't up to Google to solve this its up to Nokia. Are we going to move from Google Apps or change our phones????
I have gmail and  business google apps accounts and both are now syncing properly with what seems to be pretty good Nokia email software on the phone. This is allowing me to receive, send, view attachments, view sent mail etc. Here are the steps I took from the beginning. Its a repeat of some of the good advice above which helped me on my long journey!
    1. Enable IMAP for the google accounts. Couldn't get anything to work otherwise.
    2. Follow this instruction https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78887
    3. The inbox should now be working however you now need to map the other folders you want to see on your mobile. While at your inbox go to >settings>mailbox settings>what to sync>folder subscriptions.
    4. Click on Gmail and highlight the folders you want to see
    5. Go back to your inbox and go to the dragdown list of folders and highlight 'More Folders'. Under 'Gmail' you will find your sent items along with attachments etc. Problem solved. Its not a pretty solution but at this stage like me you just want something that works.
    Calendar
This was a nightmare and I am now running a third party app called Googasync which is working fine. In 10 days time I will need to buy this so if someone knows how to setup calendar syncing properly without it please let me know.
    Tasks
Googasync will not sync Tasks and I don't know if there is any app out there that will. If someone can help please let me know. Surely this should be pretty simple!?!?!
By the way I mailed Nokia support last Thursday on the above but have not received a reply other than to tell me that Google Apps is 3rd party software and not supported. Nokia needs to wise up.
In summary its a great phone and I've moved from a Blackerry Bold to it but I shouldn't be spending days finding workarounds!!

  • N97 and gmail setup!

    Hi guys.
I managed to set up my email account perfectly.
    A little too perfect however!!
When I log onto my gmail, my inbox is empty, all messages have been read, however on my phone I have 100's of unread messages.
It seems to include all the messages that are recieved set to "mark as read" through gmail.
I have tried "archiving all of these emails in the hope that the phone would only pick up email in the inbox but with no success.
Is there any way to set the  phone to only access the inbox?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I bought a dinc and liked it a lot. I purchased an app from Xtralogic called Remote Desktop which is a great app! My problem is that the dinc had problems and I(within the 30 days) went with a Droid X. I love the X and wanted to use my Remote Desktop app on it. When the salesperson was helping move everything from the dinc to the X he could not move this app. I got an answer from the Xtralofic people and they said I could use the same email from the dinc and see it in the app store. This is where my problem starts. I could not remember the password for the gmail account and setup another one. Now I have tried to add the original email in hopes I would be able to see the RD app and install it but no joy. When I try to remove the DX gmail it tells me it will reset the phone to factory settings. I can't do that as I have 200+  contacts, pictures and phone numbers and such I dont want to lose. How can I change the default email to the dinc gmail without losing everything?????
Do  you have your contacts synced on your Dinc with your primary gmail email address?  If so, you won't lose them because once you recover your password, you can sync it to your Droid X.  You shouldn't lose your pics if saved to your SD card when you return to the factory settings. I did not when I did it to my Droid X shortly after getting it.

  • Gmail Setup On Iphone - Not

I cannot get my gmail account setup on my iPhone using ether the iPhone gmail account default or by trying to setup a seperate POP account in detail. When I use the iPhone default for gmail I receive first an error on SSL - I then indicate to proceed without it, and then the phone cannot establish a connection with the gmail server. If I set it up the account manually, I essentually have the same problem. I've looked at the posts here and on Goggle's gmail help with no resolution. I have also reviewed Pogue's book on the subject as well as Macworld's article on the subject. Does someone have any idea what I could be doing wrong?

Thanks, I was aware of that information - but I never seem to be able to get to the "advanced tab" in the gmail account setup. The default gmail account lists only 4 items for user input: name, email address, password, and description - there is no advanced tab that I can find. After I enter the foregoing data, I get "cannot connect using SSL" error box - I then click yes to dismiss it and after dismissing I get the error message that gmail account verification failed - check incomming server field. (By the way the iPhone seems to include @gmail.com in the email address field, however, when I bring up the loop to check this data field it is omitted - I've typed in this information, but it does not help the situation.) As I indicated earlier, I've also tried to set up the account using the "Other" method, but have had negative results as well - there is no "advanced tab" on the screen either. FYI, I've also tried to set up the account on my powerbook, but the mail server "pop.gmail.com" is not recognized.

  • Mail.app with gmail setup question

    hello,
i have a large gmail account i have been using with mail.app for a long time and all works normally. however the "gmail style" is getting a bit out of control for me with the duplicates in sent/all mail. my processing is simple, after reading an email i archive it (so my inbox is always clean) so it means i move it to all mail. but since sent messages are also in all mail i'm pretty sure mail.app is storing these messages twice and whenever you search for messages you always have to filter through the duplicates. I think there are some newer ways to sync mail.app with gmail and i just wanted to ask what's the best solution to this common issue?
    thank you,
    rick

thanks for the reply. yes that is what i do sorry if i wasn't clear enough. actually the messages coming in are not duplicated since once i move them to All Mail there is only one copy there in All Mail. it's the sent messages since they are saved once in Sent and once in All Mail. does that make sense and how do other deal with this?
    thanks again,
    rick

  • Gmail Setup on LG Exalt

I upgraded my mothers old flip phone to the LG Exalt because she wanted to get her gmail on her phone.  There is an APP on the phone for gmail but gmail rejects attempts to log in.  First they said we needed to lower the security level on gmail to allow it to work through a "low security" device.  We did this and they confirmed it.  It still would not accept log in.  Now they say we need to browse the web to gmail and install their app.  They seem to only have apps for smart phones, Android, I-phone.  Does anyone know how to get gmail set up on the Exalt?  I will need to drive to my mothers place again to do this set up and I have already spent two days trying to get things to work.  At present she is no better off than she was with her old phone.

I understand she needs access to her email account DGib52 and how frustrating this may be. I can certainly clarify this for you. The phone has several steps to access her email.
    1-Go to Menu.
    2-Scroll/select 'Get it Now/Media Center'
3-Tools on the Go or Browse and Download
4-Get New Applications>Email, and then Mobile Email.
5-Highlight the option you'd like. (Make sure this is included in her plan)
6-Complete the installation and select Yes.
7-Agree to the terms and conditions.
    8-Select Other for email provider.
9-Log in with her credentials and select Sign In.

  • Gmail Setup Help

I've just started to set up gmail for my iPhone and i noticed in one of my gmail accounts i do not have the imap option underneth the forwarding and POP tab, did i miss an update? also in one of my other gmail accounts i do have the fowarding and POP option and when i chose the imap and went to my iPhone to set it up i get a message on my iPhone that says SSL error and do i want to continue without SSL? has anyone ran into this before?

The imap option might not be set-up for everyone yet, give it a few more days and try again
For the account that has imap already, did you click on save changes in the gmail forwarding settings before you started setting it up on your phone? And also did you set it up under "Other" or the preset "Gmail" when you added the account on the iPhone?

  • HT201320 can not get gmail setup / will not let me use existing password that have had in past

apple will not accept my existing gmail password / can not get my email

Delete the account and re-add it, this time add it under the "other" tab with all the correct info and settings.

Thanks! this post helped me fix that problem.
I think it happened to me because I allowed iTunes to Sync Mail Accounts (in the info tab when the iPhone is plugged in). I did that to clean up my IMAP folders by following the Mac OS X hints article for cleaning up the extra gmail IMAP folders from Mail's sidebar:
