Gmail syncing to Apple Mail question

I've just set up my macbook air and have set up mail to imap to my gmail account.  All my emails downloaded and now everytime I delete old emails, they return to my inbox.  How do I stop that?

Go to Preferences... under the Mail Menu. Then choose Accounts, and at the top choose Mailbox Behaviors.
Make sure you have the two bottom check marks, checked. The top one Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox is most important because it will label the message properly not to come back into the Inbox on Gmail.

Until yesterday I was getting mail through my gmail acount on Apple Mail. I am now not getting any email. No settings have been changed, using a valid password. Any thoughts?

I found the following advice at: http://kb.mediatemple.net/questions/230/Common+issues+with+Apple+Mail#gs/not-rec eiving-email
    Not receiving email
Once in a while, your Mail.app (sometimes referred to as "Apple Mail" or "Mac Mail"), stops receiving new mail. You may be able to verify that you are getting new mail via webmail, another email client or computer, or even via a mobile phone. When this happens, the fix is extraordinarily easy!
Here's how: From inside the Mail.app, click the Mailbox menu (see Figure 1):
Choose "take all accounts offline", and wait 10 seconds.
    Choose "take all accounts online".
Figure 1: Follow these steps to refresh your Mail application.
You should begin seeing your new mail flow into your inbox.
    It worked!

  • TS3276 changing gmail password in Apple mail

I would like to change my gmail password in Apple mail. I was able to chage the gmail password on the goggle web site but it the same password was not accepted in Apple Mail.

Problem solved, I deleted the 2 step verification in google and my password was accepted in Apple mail.
    NOW
When I installed the last mailbox, I noted a lot of "Mail Activity" and several hundred messages were incoming. In my mailboxes, I see the names of the mailboxes but there is no numbers next to them indicating the number of emails in the box. I also see that there are about 200 junk emails, several of then are not junk
Any suggestions. Hopefully the screen shot comes thru

  • I'm unable to connect my Gmail accounts to Apple Mail.

All - I've been working on this for hours.
All I want to do is connect my gmail accounts to Apple Mail.  I'm running a new Macbook Air w Mountain Lion, Apple Mail 6.5.  I can access the accounts on my ipad and iphone.  I've spent hours reading forums and help areas.
Mail repeatedly asks for my password.  In the account settings it does not save my password.
I've gotten the message that Mail cannot connect to Google imap server, but I do not believe this is a "timing" issue
    Here's what I've tried:
    Apple Side:
    -  Tried adding and deleting accounts several times within mail application
    -  tried using System Preferences > Mail/Contacts etc.
    -  Changed imap.gmail.com to imap.google.com
    -  changed to custom dedicated port for outgoing mail (587)
    -  closed and relaunched Mail
    -  Rebooted and safe rebooted computer
    -  set up and deleted accounts
    -  turned off gmail on phone and ipad
    Google Side:
    -  Enabled IMAP
    -  Not using 2 step verification
    -  Checked Captcha

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it in place of your old password.

  • Can't rearrange gmail mailboxes in apple mail in OSX Mavericks

Since getting Mavericks, I can no longer rearrange my gmail mailboxes in apple mail, either by dragging them or renaming them. This is a bother! Any fixes?

I've been having this problem on all my devices since using mavericks. And it's not only with gmail - also with private mail-clients. Looking for a descent fix!!!

  • HT1277 I can't seem to get gmail from my apple mail account. I have removed the account and added it, but it says I have the wrong password. I close gmail and get in just fine. What's up?

I can't seem to get gmail from my apple mail account. I have removed the account and added it, but it says I have the wrong password. I close gmail and get in just fine. What's up?

I meant that I sign out, sign back in ok. Ergo, I know my password. Someone here on the support page  (you?) told me the culprit is the 2 step verification process which I had on. That makes a lot of sense as Apple mail won't get a code thereby jamming up the process. I could not even start a new account until I took that 2 step process off. Everything fine now thank you.

  • Gmail settings with Apple Mail

    Hello,
I have some problems in configuring the Gmail settings for Apple Mail.
Following the instructions on the Google site, under Settings->Mailbox rules I have first of all unchecked everything apart form junk. Please check the enclosed image where I show my Google mailbox settings (sorry it is in Italian but the order is the same as in the English version).
Please find below the folders view of my Apple mail following above configuration. As you can see, there are two trash folders, one on the Mac and one IMAP. But when I delete one message, it does not move in either two and it does remain on "all mail" folder.
I simply would like to make deleted messages move into a trash folder that I can empty when I need, in order to get rid of them.
Can anyone please advise, how to properly set Mail? Than you so much, daniele

I did try it recently and it worked for me. Did you type “recent:” in the User Name field or in the Email Address field? It should be in the User Name, which is what is used for logging in. The Email Address is used only to determine what should appear in the From header of messages sent from that account and is irrelevant otherwise...

  • GMAIL Pop and Apple Mail 4.2: Doesn't Download all New Mail at Once

    Hello,
I was wondering if anyone encountered this issue. I currently use GMAIL and am popping my mail onto my Mac Mail 4.2. Everything seems to be working fine except that when I download new mail, it downloads it in small chunks. It doesn't grab all the new mail all at once.
So for example: I check GMAIL web and I know I have 10 new mail messages.
When I click "Get Mail" in the Mail app, I get 3 new messages. I click on "Get Mail" again, and then it gets 4 new messages. And then I do it again, and then it gets the final 3 messages.
Is there a reason why it does this? Is this a GMAIL config or Apple mail config issue?
    Thanks

First of all, confirm that you have set the Gmail account up as POP -- the default in Mail 4 when newly setting one up is IMAP, but POP setup can be accomplished. If the account was the result of earlier version, and merely now the result of an Upgrade Snow Leopard, then previous setup as POP should have carried over. Open Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information to confirm Account Type.
Then via browser access to your Gmail POP/IMAP settings, confirm that the appropriate Enable selections have been made.

  • Gmail won't sync with apple mail

My apple mail no longer shows any past or current gmail message. I have tried deleting the account and making a new one and I have tried reinstalling OS X (I am currently running OS X 10.10.2 and running Mail 8.2). This has been going on for a couple days, I have not updated the system or anything, it just sort of stopped happening. If anyone had any ideas to how I can fix this I would be very grateful.
    Thanks!

Clarification question - can you download e-mails or you can't see downloaded e-mails?
Try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

  • Flag color sync in Apple Mail with Gmail and Yahoo?

It appears that colored flags sync through iCloud for your @me.com email address. Is there a way to get the colored flags to sync across computers for a Yahoo or Google account? For example, if I flag an email in my Gmail account with a Green Flag on my Apple desktop computer in Apple Mail, is there a way to get the flag to show up as Green on my laptop in Apple Mail? Currently, the fact that the email is flagged syncs across computers and accounts, but not the particular color of the flag. Also, highlighting an email a certain color does not appear to sync, even for my @me.com account. And lastly, now that Apple has switched from Mobile Me to iCloud, they have given up Mail Rule syncing... is there a way to get my Apple Mail Rules to sync between computers? Thanks!

Upon further investigation, I have determined that flag colors applied in Apple's Mail program DO sync through your iCloud @me.com email address AND through a Google gmail account. However, flag colors DO NOT sync through Yahoo. Email highlight colors DO NOT appear to sync through iCloud, Gmail, or Yahoo. If anyone figures out a way to enable any of these features that at the moment do not sync (flag color in Yahoo, highlight color, mail rules), please respond!

  • Searching Gmail messages in Apple Mail 8.0 and hiding All Mail

As recommended by several tech sites, I enabled All Mail from my Gmail account to show in IMAP, and Apple Mail 8.0 created a new archive under the Trash icon named "All Mail (Google)". It took several hours to downloaded all my 63000 messages and they are now all stored there (based on the mailbox size in Library>Mail) but still show (as aliases I guess) in the respective mailboxes that I originally assigned them to.
Now, when I search for a message in Apple Mail, it finds it but shows its location as in "All Mail" instead of the mailbox (or label) that I had assigned it to. Is there a way to hide the All Mail archive so that the search function does not look there first?
I used to have All Mail disabled in IMAP, and the search worked as I wanted, but the issue was that all my 100 mailboxes had to be synchronized every time a message arrived, was deleted, or was moved from any Gmail mailbox. This means that it constantly cycled in the background through my mailboxes and new mail sound notifications were delayed until all mailboxes had been synced.
Enabling All Mail to show in IMAP has solved the issue of constant syncing to all mailboxes, but it has introduced the problem with searching my mailbox. It has also meant that every new message that arrives is displayed both in the Inbox and in the All Mail, and I don't need the latter.
I opened a ticket a year ago about the syncing issues to all mailboxes with bugreport at Apple, and nothing has been solved. Thanks for any help on how to hide the All Mail Google archive without disabling All Mail in IMAP, or any other workaround to search messages by mailbox without having syncing issues.

Still having this issue and accidentally hit solved.

  • Gmail Sync with Apple

Gmail is not syncing with my Apple mail. It has been set up for over a year and was working just fine. No changes were made, all software is updated, but Gmail quit syncing. I can still access and send mail through the Gmail website, so the account is fine. Can someone please help me?

There is a forum for Mail in the Snow Leopard forums. I'd recommend re-posting there if you don't get an answer here. The link to that forum is:

  • How to sync the apple mail with exchange servers?

Hello, I am trying to configure the Apple Mail app to sync the mailboxes with the corporate EXCHANGE SERVER. The mails did not sync as I click, Is anybody had the same problem? is there any special configuration?
    vanderlei

Unlike Gmail, which is set up as either an IMAP or Exchange account, POP accounts will delete messages from the server when they are retreived by an email client, such as your iPhone.  The only way to keep them longer is to change the Delete From Server setting on your account (if present) to Never. (This is supported by many, but not all, POP accounts).  This is usually found on your phone in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>tap your POP account, tap Advanced (usually under Outgoing Mail Server), tap Delete from Server, set to Never.  As for the messages already deleted, unfortunately they can't be retreived at this point since they have in all likelihood already been deleted from your POP account's server.  Also, you can't recover them from your iPhone backup as the backup doesn't not contain email messages.

  • Anyone else using Gmail (IMAP) with Apple Mail having this problem?

I've been noticing the last couple months that whenever a new incoming message arrives from an ongoing thread/conversation in my Apple Mail client, it makes all prior emails in the same thread show up again as "unread", instead of just showing the latest message as unread. This means I tediously have to go and mark all prior messages in the thread as "read" again each time. When I log into gmail where the mail is hosted (as an IMAP account), the thread in question is hi-lighted to indicate a new unread message (including the email count for the number of messages in that thread), yet it seems only the most recent email is shown as unread. Somehow it seems Apple Mail is interpreting this message count in the Gmail thread as all being unread messages again each time.
Any settings I need to change or is this a bug that Gmail or Apple has?

    racb,
First check your on-line Gmail to see if the mail is sent / received. -
Sometimes Gmail will not send to itself or goes into the spam folder.
It also could be a corrupt preference file.
First save the mail in your inbox – in a new mailbox on your Mac.
    Close mail.
Go to Home folder (the house) - Library folder- Preferences folder –
    Look for - com.apple.mail.plist
Drag it into a new folder on your desktop – just incase you might need it latter.
You will need to go back into mail and recreate you Preferences/accounts again.

  • How to deactivate rules sync in apple mail?

    Hi,
unfortunately, rules in apple mail are synced via iCloud when "Documents & Data" is activated in iCloud settings. I would have thought that deactivating the "Mail" checkbox should do that, but this one seems to be related to iCloud email adresses only.
My problem is, that I need the "Document & Data" sync for other apps, but I cannot turn it on because then, mail rules will be synced too. This leads to a horrible mess as I have different rules on my private mac and on my business mac.
How can I deactivate the "Documents & Data" sync just for a single app (in this case Apple Mail) and leave it on for the others? Did I miss something, or can I just turn it on and off for all apps?
    Thanks in advance,
    Timo

I don't have a second computer to test, but you could use DropBox, OneDrive, Box.com or other cloud service to sync your documents and data.
