GMAIL - VERSAMAIL - OUTLOOK Solution

OK folks, I may have found a solution (of sorts). I've read a number of messages about how to work with Gmail's POP server. My problem was Versamail 3.5.4 wouldn't download my inbox messages from Gmail. Then I got to the point where it would do it one at a time. Finally, I'm at the point where I get all my messages (even new ones), and I'm able to send messages (although I had to filter out my own email address) all from my Treo 755p (please note the addition of "RECENT:" before your username!!!). At the same time, I am able to download my messages to Outlook Express and Hotmail. What I did:
Settings for Versamail:
Account Name= Gmail
Mail Service= Gmail
Protocol= POP
Username= recent:[email protected]
Password= yourpassword
Email Address= [email protected]
Incoming Mail Server= pop.gmail.com
Outgoing Mail Server= smtp.gmail.com
Advanced = = = =
Incoming Server Settings
Port Number= 995
SSL= Checked
APOP= UNchecked
Outgoing Server Settings
Port Number= 587
SSL= Checked
ESMTP= Checked
For Outlook: I just used the program that Gmail provides (Gmailconfig.exe) and tweaked it a bit with some of the similar settings.
I'm no expert, and I don't know how long this setup will last. It works, for now, so I'm posting the "temporary" solution.

  • Can't attach a Numbers spreadsheet to a message in Gmail or Outlook

    I can't attach a tiny Numbers spreadsheet to an outgoing message in Gmail or Outlook - in both cases I get the message that the attachment failed.  However, I was able to send it out by attaching to Mail.  I am using a Mid-2010 Mac on Mavericks with completely updated on software as of this date.  Does anyone know what is the issue and if there is a workaround?

    Ali,
    I know of no cure for this other than to use another email service. It is Google that rejects how Apple packages Numbers, and there's nothing I have found that skirts that issue. Yahoo Mail works, Apple Mail works, in fact, I don't recall hearing of any other service that rejects iWork documents.
    Most of us have more than one email account, so we can get around it by avoiding Gmail for sending Package Files. Gmail will accept iCloud links, so you can share that way if you wish.

  • New 9720 not synchronizing GMAIL or Outlook diary......but email coming through fine.

    Hi. Any ideas anyone?!  I can't get my new 9720 to pull my GMAIL and Outlook diary though to the handset. I have set up  the email as usual and have had these diaries coming through fine on previous blackberries no problem. The error message (when I try to fix the problem in email set-up is: 'Your device encountered a problem with this application's server. Select OK and repeat the action to try again'. • Mail 4.5 corrupts PDF attachments from gmail (while outlook 2011 doesnt)

    I have a gmail account with scanned documents.
    I add this account to in Mail and then some of the PDFs are damaged and can not be corrected. The interesting matter is that via web-access and Outlook 2011 there is not a problem.
    I have tried many different solutions I could find on the web incl. here. From deleting the mailboxes to deleting the cache-files. Ultimately I deleted the whole mail app (incl. lib files with CleanMyMac), reinstalling and reinstalling the combo.
    After adding the account the last time, I minimized the window, till all activity was finished and everything cashed etc.
    I opened mail and again the same problem.
    Additional remarks: There are many attachments with the same name, because they were send by a HP Office machine. Some have a problem most don't I would estimate the problem is in 10% of the mails.
    Again via Web-access and Outlook 2011 all attachments are correct.
    I could use Outlook, their calendar doesn't sync with gmail and I also don't like how outlook is handling (and messing-up) my v.cards .
    Any help would be highly appreciated.

    The IMAP setting to Keep copies of messages and their attachments has little impact unless not connected to the internet and wanting to work Offline. If connected to the internet, and you click on a message, it will be downloaded, even if not already so by virtue of this setting. If not selected to Keep copies . . . and attachments, then you will be subject to the goodness of the internet connection at that moment. I am only partially keeping abreast of your investigations, but it may be that transmission is muddled at certain times?
    I didn't actually try reading the messages without an internet connection. When I had the account in the default "message+attachment" option, the attachments tended to stay on the server. When I switched to "message, no attachment", the attachments were always downloaded. That sure sounds like the opposite of what I would have expected. I've never used the "message, no attachment" setting so that is new to me.
    But I may be missing a step in the sequence of things you have found out. Do you have any reason to think that in the message cache created by selecting Keep copies . . . something could be altering files?
    I know that if the Mailbox index gets corrupted, it can cause attachments to be lost - at least temporarily. When I do testing with a local mail server, sometimes the timing is off (too fast maybe) and the message is almost always corrupted. Rebuilding the mailbox fixes it.
    My initial theory was that the HP devices were spitting out bad MIME messages and that gmail was fixing them. Now I think that gmail IMAP just flakes out every so often with these big files. There could be other explanations too. The PDF was just truncated. I don't think a bug in Apple Mail is a likely possibility.

  • Problem with NotiCenter and Calendar; multiple bdays w/Gmail or Outlook

    So I am trying to figure out how to run down a VERY annoying problem that affects both my calendar notifications as well as OmniFocus.
    Using either my Google or Outlook.com calendar (not at the same time, either or) both calendars automatically include a calendar for contacts' birthdays. Apple's iCAL or whatever does this as well.
    No matter if I hide the Apple birthday calendar or not, it still shows up in the notification center. Ditto for the Google/Outlook version. I've tried to disable that option on the website (Outlook or Gmail) but it's basically the same deal - it "hides" it, but it still "reports" it to the iPhone. So it shows up twice, once for the Apple contact birthdays and once for the Outlook.
    This is incredibly annoying because then my notification is cluttered with two copies of each birthday, as is the calendar in OmniFocus.
    Is there a way to disable either the Outlook or iCAL birthday calendar COMPLETELY (not just "hide" it, because hiding still reports to notification center even if it doesn't show up in the app itself)?

    Hello Matthew,
    I was researching the issue you are describing and found a way to disable the Birthday reminders on the iPhone in the settings. From the iPhone User Guide found here: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf page 67:
    Set default alert times for birthdays and events: Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Default Alert Times.
    When you go to the Default Alert times there is an option there for None which should disable a notification for the iPhone birthday calendar events.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • IPhone, Gmail, and Outlook 2007 - A question please

    Hello all,
    I just recently installed Outlook 2007 on my Windows XP machine. It is set up with my gmail account.
    I have iPhone successfully looking at the same gmail account.
    Here's what I'm asking if it can be done:
    If I access/read my email from Outlook, then it will NOT show up on my iPhone.
    If I access/read my email from my iPhone, then it will NOT show up on Outlook.
    Is that possible?
    I guess I'm hoping that I don't come home, read some email from Outlook for a few days.
    Then go to my iPhone and see that I have 132 "unread" emails at Gmail. Yes, they've been read...but my iPhone doesn't know that.
    Am I making sense on my request?
    Thanks for any advice!
    Ted

    You're welcome.
    I could not find a similar setting on the iPhone.
    If you are accessing the account as a POP account with the iPhone's mail client, the setting for removing messages from the server is at Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Select the account. Selected Advanced at the bottom. Under Incoming Settings, at Delete from server.
    If you used the Gmail account preset on the iPhone when creating the account, the account was created as an IMAP account with the iPhone's mail client.
    And I'm confused. If Outlook is taking the message and NOT leaving it on the server, then how is iPhone getting the message?
    The iPhone's mail client will not receive the message, and the same with Outlook if you select remove messages from the server when downloaded for the account settings with the iPhone's mail client.
    You indicated that you want the following:
    If I access/read my email from Outlook, then it will NOT show up on my iPhone.
    If I access/read my email from my iPhone, then it will NOT show up on Outlook.
    Accessing the account as a POP account with both email clients and selecting to remove messages from the server when downloaded with both email clients will provide this.
    With an IMAP account, all server stored mailboxes are kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account. Read a received message with Outlook and when checking the account's Inbox mailbox with the iPhone's mail client, the message will be available in the account's Inbox mailbox but will be marked as read, and vice-versa.

  • Gmail, iPhone, Outlook..sent mail problem

    Dear Friends,
    I was writing to see if anyone might be able to help me diagnose a problem I am having with gmail on the iphone. I have the iphone setup to read my gmail account and use outlook on the pc as my desktop mail reader. My outlook is setup so my multiple accounts all end up in my inbox.
    When I send from my gmail account on the iphone outlook does not see the mail in outlook. This is a major issue for me since I deal with clients and need to have this information on my desktop to keep track of things, etc.
    The thing I find most confusing is if I use the gmail web interface I can see the mail that was sent in the sent mail folder. The iphone can also see this, it is just that outlook can't.

    Barry Schwartz1,
    Many, if not most, ISPs filter port 25 to prevent users from sending spam. Even though your Exchange's SMTP settings allow it to listen on port 25, you may not be able to send via port 25. Many server admins, configure their server to listen on another port, most often 587 or 465 in addition to requiring authentication as anti-spam measures.
    I know that AT&T's EDGE network for example does filter Port 25. If you are using your iPhone on WiFi at home you may want to check with your home internet service provider (ISP) to see if they filter Port 25.
    If the server admin is not willing to configure the server to listen on another port, they might be willing to allow you to use VPN so that when you send it will be via the VPN, and not using Port 25 through your ISP.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • How do I make gmail not Outlook Express my default email program in firefox?

    This used to just work on a different system and I don't remember having to set any default settings. For example, when I am browsing through craigslist and want to email someone that has posted an ad I used to being able to just click the encrypted hyperlink to that person and the gmail login page would come up. On this system it prompts me to use OE. I've tried disabling OE, I've tried deleting OE (won't let me delete), I've deleted OE from the registry but still it pops up when I'm in Firefox. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

  • How can I have unified contacts across outlook, iphone and gmail?

    I am new to iPhone and cannot seem to get something that I really enjoyed on my blackberry, unified contacts across all three platforms.  I use Outlook for work and Gmail for personal.  I had it set up on my blackberry that I had one set of contacts, not separated by outlook or gmail.  The goal was to have the same set of contacts in all three places.  Any changes made in any place, outlook, gmail, or blackberry, was reflected in all three places.
    Is there a way to do this on the iPhone?  I had set up my iPhone to sync with gmail and outlook, but it created two sets of contacts, so when I searched for a person, it would show two or more records.  I just want one contact list.  Is there a way to turn off the contact seperation and just have one list?  I just want to be able to make a change in any of the three places and have it reflected across all three.
    I have both work and gmail set up via exchange for push email and syncing.

    The contacts had to be separated on your Blackberry but were viewed as combined, which is possible with the iPhone's Contacts app.
    With my iPhone, I sync business contacts over the air with my company Exchange account, and I sync personal contacts over the air with iCloud account - former MobileMe account. My personal iCloud contacts are also synced with the Address Book on my Mac and I would be doing the same with my Exchange business contacts but we aren't using a compatible Exchange Server software in order for me to do that. If I was doing so, my business contscts and my personal contacts would be separated in the Address Book on my Mac and I would have the ability to view business and personal contacts combined or separately as I can with my business and personal contacts on my iPhone.
    Does Outlook support syncing your Gmail online contacts so your personal contacts would be kept synchronized between the three - Outlook, Google online address book, and your iPhone?
    If you are syncing contacts over the air with your iPhone and syncing contacts direct with a supported address book app on your computer via the iTunes sync process, the contacts will be duplicated on your iPhone - one set stored locally, and one set stored in the online address book for the email account.

  • MS Outlook / Gmail / Jetpack

    We have been using Mi-Fi devices for years.  We just upgraded to the Jetpack. 2 of our 4 computers work great.  They do everything EXCEPT download unread messages, from Gmail into Outlook.  We have 2 Jetpacks and the same thing happens on both.  The computers that do not wortk at running Windows 7 and Vista, the ones that work are XP. They worked just fine with the prior devices and they work just fine when logged onto other wireless networks and DSL.
    When reading a server not found error occurs.
    Can someone help please...

    If the Jetpack works correctly with everything except for a particular application, then the application is at fault and needs to be reconfigured.  I say that because you cannot make changes to a Jetpack that will influence how you access the internet and vice versa.  Everything that could impact that communication is controlled and locked down by VZW.
    I suggest checking with the Outlook folks on their communities.  See what kinds of changes and configurations you can try to re-route your gmail communication.  If that doesn't work because VZW is not letting it through then consider the other known work around which is setting up a VPN to a network where the communication is allowed through.
    Seems like some folks have tried discussing this subject here:

  • Outlook and Gmail

    I have Outlook 2013 and Gmail account. Whenever I open Outlook, the programme immediately stops. I cannot open Outlook and receive/send any emails. This was not always the case. Office has been uninstalled and re-installed. Is there an issue with the interface
    between Gmail and Outlook, and if so, is there anything I can do to address it? Thank you.

    Hi,
    Personally I'm not experiencing this issue with my Outlook with Gmail setup via IMAP.
    Delete the Outlook Profile from Control Panel -> Mail, Open Outlook and setup a new profile, check if this problem persists. You can also try with another account except the Gmail account, test if this is only Gmail related.
    You can also open Event Viewer to research deeper:
    Press Win key + R, type "eventvwr" in the blank box, press Enter.
    Find errors about Outlook from Windows Logs -> Application, this may help find the root cause.

  • Reconciling Outlook/Gmail to Blackberry Pearl

    Hi, I'm new with Blackberry, so hopefully this isn't a stupid question.
    I recently decided to change from using gmail to Outlook 2003. I set up outlook so that my gmail account is the only account listed in it, but I'm not sure what to do so that my phone will reconcile with it. The email address hasn't changed, but any emails that I open or delete on my phone aren't reflected in my Outlook inbox.
    Thanks in advance for any help!

    Welcome to the forum. Go to the message folder click the menu button > options > email reconciliation > set delete on to "prompt" and wireless reconciliation to "on". Now when you delete a message it will prompt to delete the message on the handheld or handheld and mailbox and handheld which will delete it on the gmail server.

  • Work email and gmail both on BB w/separate outlook icons. Gmail emails go into both.

    My work gave me a blackberry that was already set up with outlook for my work email.  I installed facebook on my BB.  I also went thru set up wizard and set up a 2nd email address for my gmail account.  This installed a 2nd outlook icon where my gmails go into.  However, all of my gmail emails also go into the outlook icon where my work emails go.  They go into both.  How can I get it so that gmail emails go into the gmail account outlook icon only, and not the work one?
    Also, my facebook notifications go into my work email on BB, not the gmail account on BB, even though my facebook account has my gmail email as the associated email address.  How do I resolve this?

    Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
    For the BES vs BIS issue, please see this post:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/rim/board/message?board.id=9500&message.id=30149#M30149
    For the FB issue, I believe that FB integrates to the Messages application on the BB rather than to the specific GMail BIS icon.
    Your Messages icon is not your work icon, btw -- it is the Messages app on your BB, which handles all messaging on your BB.
