Gmail won't sync with apple mail

My apple mail no longer shows any past or current gmail message. I have tried deleting the account and making a new one and I have tried reinstalling OS X (I am currently running OS X 10.10.2 and running Mail 8.2). This has been going on for a couple days, I have not updated the system or anything, it just sort of stopped happening. If anyone had any ideas to how I can fix this I would be very grateful.
Thanks!

Clarification question - can you download e-mails or you can't see downloaded e-mails?
Try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

  • Gmail suddenly not working with Apple Mail

My gmail suddenly is not working with Apple Mail.
It said my username or password is wrong, but it was okay this morning.
Nevertheless, I deleted my gmail account, and re-setup it using Internet Accounts from System Preference.
However, I got the beow message:
There was a problem setting up the Mail account. An unknown error occurred.
I am sure my username and password are correct because I just login it using Safari.
Does anyone know what the cause is?
    Please help~~~

Gmail not syncing in mac mail is a problem that is also in snow leopard since the new year.
OSX 10.6.8  is the highest OS that will run on an Intel Core 2 Duo.  Do not try to install Mavericks on this machine! I will install, but turns it into a dinosaur and many programs will no longer run.
I had an issue with Mac Mail not syncing with imap.gmail.com. and Safari not being able to find apple.com.
This was resolved by working with an upper level tech support member for several hours deleating particular system library files, uninstalling most addons, reseting system network settings and a whole lot more! (too much to name here)
    Thank you Apple Tech Support.

  • Gmail no longer working with Apple Mail?

In the lasts 24 hours, without making changes to hardware or software, Mail has quit retrieving mail from my gmail accounts.
While I never receive any sort of warning about passwords or other issue, I simply get this:
And the "activity" window just stays that way... for hours with no result.  The Connection Doctor window:
The Church Email account is an old one that is no longer active... I just haven't removed it from my list.  But the "verify username and password" message is consistent... Strangely enough, down the same window - the SMTP connection works just fine. I can sent  mail from all of my gmail accounts using Mail... Considering that the user name/password is the same for both sending and receiving mail.. SOMETHING is funky with Apple Mail.
Anybody have a guess what to check? This is frustrating.

Did you change any setting in Mail? Did you change your gmail account password? Did you activate 2-step verification on your gmail account?
If you haven't done anything from above, maybe problem is with your network... Did you try to turn off your router for few minutes and then turn ON again?
Did you install any 3rd party security apps on your Mac? Did you enable system firewall? Do you use any proxy servers? Do you use VPN?
    There might be more questions...

  • Gmail IMAP *was* working with Apple Mail - days later it's stopped working.

    Hi all,
I recently started my Gmail IMAP account over in Apple Mail and Mobile Mail in order to get it working properly across an iMac, iPhone and MBP. I followed Gmail's IMAP settings to the letter and the only thing I couldn't get working was for the Trash folder in Gmail's server to take the place of the Trash icon that Mail has. While Sent and Drafts were represented correctly once I did the "Use this Mailbox for..." thing, Trash never moved up there.
Turns out that when I've been deleting emails in Apple Mail, they haven't been deleting in the Gmail inbox. They just sit there, label free. In the meantime, the fact that the server Inbox is stuffed full of label-less emails isn't reflected in the other applications, and deleting an email in Apple Mail does not delete it from Mobile Mail. Similarly, mails I've moved in Apple Mail from the Inbox to the Gmail folders are not reflected in Mobile Mail, where they remain in the Inbox. Furthermore, on the server the mails appear to have the correct label for the folder I moved them to in Apple Mail, but on the server they are still in the Inbox.
I'm confused. The Gmail server inbox seems to be acting like All Mail now - in that I move something from the Inbox and into a Gmail folder using Apple Mail or Mobile Mail, but on the server they just stay in the Inbox and have a label added. They sit in several places at once. This is not what's supposed to happen!
Furthermore, now any emails I write in Apple Mail and Mobile Mail start saving drafts every few seconds then saving these as new emails in 'Drafts', and on the server saving them as multiple different versions of emails. If I send an email, I do not need to save every single variation every 10 seconds. Even if I don't send an email I don't need that. It wasn't doing this before, why has it started now?
I thought I'd got this all sorted but clearly I don't.
How do I achieve the following:
    1) In Apple Mail and Mobile Mail, have an Inbox, Drafts, Sent and Trash box at the top, in which changes are reflected on the server and vice versa.
    2) If I move an email in the above software from Inbox to a Gmail folder, the email on the server moves from Inbox to that folder, but remains in All Mail.
    3) If I delete an email on the above software, it's moved from wherever it is to the Gmail Trash folder, where it's deleted after 30 days. It does NOT simply lose a label and remain in the Inbox or even in All Mail. If I delete something, I want it gone EVERYWHERE.
    4) Don't save my Drafts every 10 seconds. Ever.
It can't be that hard to do this, can it?

Hmm, turns out my iMac Apple Mail has been resetting the Mailbox activity settings for some random reason which would explain the drafts problem. Wonder why?

  • New iTunes videos won't sync with Apple TV (1st Gen)

I have two Apple TVs (1st Gen) that have been working wonderfully.  I've had no problem in the past downloading videos from iTunes even as recently as a month or two ago.  However, after upgrading both my OS (10.8.2) and my iTunes (10.7) my most recent download (a series subscription) won't sync.  I'm ruling out a problem with the Apple TVs specifically as it is happening with both.  The message I'm getting is "[SHOW] could not be copied to Apple TV because it cannot be played on this Apple TV".  This is the same message I get whether trying to sync the HD (720) or SD version.  Thoughts?

You can re-download SD content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer, uncheck the preference to download HD in the bottom right corner.

  • Gmail outgoing server issues with Apple Mail

    Hi,
I'm currently running OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion, and trying to set up my gmail account in Apple Mail. I can recieve mail just fine, but am not able to send mail. for the outgoing server i typed "smtp.gmail.com." When i look at the Mail Connection Doctor it says that the imap incoming was able to login in and connect, as well as the smtp is succeeding with its connection to the server. However I keep getting the message that says "cannot send message using the server smtp.gmail.com"
With the connection doctor window still up, upon trying to send my letter again, an error comes up...even though the connections are still good. The error reads:

If anybody knows what the problem is or how to fix it, I'd be greatly appreciative. In addition, I do have this account being fed to my phone, to which it can send/receive mail just fine.
    Thanks

By default Mail should enter all the correct setting for Gmail.
    It's asking for authentication.
    Select to Edit SMTP settings.
Select your Gmail account from the list.
    Click on Advanced.
√ Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
Gmail likes port 465 but Apple default to all ports.
Make sure your password is entered.
Use the Connection doctor to test your settings. You should see green lights to show your receiving and sending settings are correct. Click on Show Details if you see a red light.

  • GMail is not working with Apple Mail App: Login correct, says "no e-mails"?

    HI everyone,
I just switched from my iPhone 5 to a new iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.1.2. After I put the latest backup to the new device everything was set up fine. Unfortunately Google Mail doesn't work with the Apple Mail App any more.
I have two factor identification switched on and use the 16 digit long password which I set up with my Google account. The configuration details work (login, password, server details), the account is accepted, no notifications tell me that anything is wrong. The thing is, that the Apple Mail App doesn't show any mails. Also it's impossible to send any emails. The strange thing is, that the GMail App works fine.
I really tried everything: deleted the account setup, changed mail server from m.google.com to smtp.google.com, set up a new app specific password through two factor identification... no emails appear!
With my iPhone 5 I was a lucky user of push email, thanks to Microsoft ActiveSync. So I keep trying to configure the GMail account as an Exchange account (I know that Google switched off ActiveSync some time ago, until now everything worked fine with my iPhone 5, even push mail worked!).
Does anyone of you know how to solve the problem? I don't like the GMail App and really prefer using the iOS Mail App..
    Thanks in advance!

  • Sync With Apple Mail

    Hi All
I have just bought an iPhone and I am really confused about the Mail side of things and was hoping someone could put me straight.
I use Apple's mail client into POP3 accounts and .Mac mail.
Before I had the iPhone I had my POP3 email set in in Apple Mail to pull down any new messages every minute and leave any messages on the server for a week in case I wanted to see them when using a web client.
I set up iPhone and it downloaded all the messages off the server/s. So, now I have two different inboxes - my 'main' one - Apple Mail - and the iPhone which are different at all times no matter whether I delete messages in Apple Mail or not.
So, I thought it might be better to set Apple Mail to pull messages off the servers completely when it checks each minute and delete any sent mail off the servers too. I would use the iPhone to show me stuff that comes in while I am away from my Mac. (I would have to quit Apple Mail for this to work if I left my Mac on).
Is this the way that you are meant to set the thing up? I had hoped that the iPhone would just look like my Apple Mail inbox but doesn't seem possible if iPhone references what is on the server directly.
So, I get even more confused when I press the curved arrow button at the bottom of an account's inbox and nothing changes to the list of emails on the iPhone. They should all disappear I would have thought now (given that all the emails have gone from the servers courtesy of Apple Mail's 'new' settings).
I hope someone can decipher my babble and help me out!
    All the best
    David

Yes - with POP3 the iPhone and Apple Mail downloads a copy of whatever is on the server. What then happens to those messages on the server is determined by your mail settings - whether the messages on the server are deleted immediately, at a later date, or never.
Yes - emails deleted on the iPhone/Apple Mail has no effect on what happens on the server with POP3 accounts. With an IMAP account, however, emails would be deleted off the server.
Emails sent from the iPhone do not register as sent with the POP3 server and therefore will not get picked up by Apple Mail (and vice versa). You effectively have two outboxes. An IMAP account, however, would allow you to sync the two.
You should be able to change your POP3 email to IMAP, although you may have to pay for it if you're using a freebie email address.

  • Current options to sync with Apple Mail

When I sync my blackberry it says that the notes sync with the Apple mail notes, but I cannot find the Apple mail notes. How do I access them??
    Thank you.

I had the same problem. It actually syncs the memos to Mail. Open Mail from your computer, and on the left side there should be drop menus called: Mail, Reminders, and RSS. On mine, Reminders was closed, so I dropped it, and there was another menu called "Notes", and viola! There were all the Blackberry Notes, ready to go! It's literally saved in "Apple Mail Notes".
This thread is what made me look there: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12187767

  • My ipad2 won't sync with Apple tv or let me airplay

MMy ipad2 won't sync or AirPlay to Apple tv

Then your problem may well be a network problem rather than just showing photos.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Gmail is not working with Apple Mail

I am trying to get my Gmail account working through IMAP in Apple Mail on the Mountain Lion operating system.  I have a brand new MacBook Pro, and it is frustrating to not have this working.
When I attempt to set up my account, I get the below message:
The Google IMAP server “imap.gmail.com” is not responding. Try checking the network connection, and that the server name is correct. Otherwise, the server might be temporarily unavailable. If you continue, you might not be able to receive messages.
I know the server is working because I am able to get into Gmail everywhere else.  It sounds like other people may also have this problem.  Does anyone have a solution for this?

  • IPod notes syncing with Apple Mail

When I finally started using Apple Mail on my MacBook, the next time that I synced my iPod Touch, all of the notes from the iPod showed up in the inbox of my mail.  If I delete them from the inbox, they get deleted from everywhere - the iPod, the notes folder, the trash folder, wherever.  How can I get the notes out of my inbox so that they're not cluttering that up, but keep them on the iPod?  Or did I set up something wrong?

Turned out to be a simple, but obscure fix:  In the Mail application on the MacBook, go to Preferences > Account > Mailbox Behaviors and find the check box for "Show notes in Inbox".  I just unchecked it!
