Gnome 3.16, no clock indicator!

As you can see, the clock indicator is missing! The weather indicator is working fine though...
I installed this system yesterday, and as far as I can remember, the clock has been missing since the first boot.
What can I do to fix this?

Although it looks like ixi's problem is a different one, it's kinda weird how so many different things are failing during this gnome 3.16 update.
I'm not sure what exactly triggers the error, but it's definitely wacom tablet related. I'm using a laptop with a wacom touchscreen/tablet(thinkpad x220 tablet) so I can't really disconnect the tablet during session start. Out-of-the box, gnome control center does not recognize a wacom tablet, although it still works and shows up in xinput fine except for the eraser on the stylus. Installing the xf86-input-wacom driver makes the tablet settings in gcc show up. On every session start it says that the tablet needs calibration and the calibration tool does not register stylus clicks(it did in 3.14) and eventually hangs and I have to killall gnome-control-center in order for it to go away.
edit: So I found out one thing that triggers the error every time. Rotating the screen. In order to use my laptop properly in tablet mode, I have to flip the screen 180 degrees. I have a button that does this and there is one in display settings in gcc. Either of those brings up the 'Oh no' thing evety time. Weirdly enough, rotating 90 degrees only(portrait mode) does not trigger the error.
Disconnecting my wacom "solved" the problem. Also i noticed that some basic interactions (such as copy-paste and double click on nautilus folders) does not work properly.

  • Removing Gnome 2.30's keyboard indicator

    Hi.
I've just upgraded to Gnome 2.30 and now there always is this annoying keyboard layout indicator in the tray. I use two layouts between which I switch using a keyboard shortcut. I can't find a way to remove the indicator and it's really getting on my nerves. As much as I like Gnome, presenting a tray icon to the user with no apparent way to remove it is not really user-friendly Does anyone have an idea how to get rid of it?
    Thanks!

Quoting the Gnome 2.30 release notes:
The GNOME Keyboard Indicator has been removed from GNOME Applets. If you use more than one keyboard layout, the GNOME Keyboard Indicator will now automatically appear in your tray via gnome-system-daemon.

  • [SOLVED] Gnome 3 Battery Indicator Missing

I've been using Arch on my desktop for a few years now, and as of a couple months ago I'm also running Arch on my HP dv8000t laptop. When i log into Gnome 3 the battery/charge indicator is missing from the icons in the upper right-hand corner. I know it was there for some time just after installing Arch, but since then it seems to have randomly disappeared. I thought I killed it with an update but since nobody else seems to have this problem, I'm not too sure any more. To further confuse things, GDM shows the battery indicator just fine, it's only after I log in that it is missing. This seems to point to it being a problem with some configuration in my home directory, but I don't know enough about gnome 3 to know what hidden folder to look under. Running 'acpi' from the command line gives me a battery percent remaining, but not a remaining time estimate (however, I've never had any OS on this laptop give a remaining time estimate so that's not a big problem for me).
Basically, I'm looking for a) software that might conflict with the icon and cause it to not show up or b) a configuration file where it may have gotten disabled.
After submitting this post, I'm going to create a brand new user and log into it as a test of whether it's a configuration in my home directory or not.
Edit: I just created a new user and the battery indicator worked for it, which means it's probably something with my profile. I also forgot to mention that at the same time as the battery icon disappeared, my volume hotkeys stopped working.

For anyone having similar problems, I discovered there was a permissions issue with my ~/.config/dconf/* files. I ended up just deleting mine and re-setting my settings (since I had only tweaked a couple) but I assume changing permissions back to something that my user could read from would also work.
What baffled me for the longest time was that there weren't (or I couldn't find) any error logs telling me dconf couldn't hit that file, which is why I never thought to check. Anyway, all is well now!

  • [HOWTO] Change GNOME 3 panels

I am used to have the clock at hte upper right corner. Moreover, I don't find the user menu useful, so I wanted to remove it and place the clock to the right instead.
Here is how to do it:
Open dconf-editor (note that gconf-editor does not work)
Browse to org.gnome.gnome-panel.layout and edit the object-id-list removing 'user-menu' from the list.
The user menu should disappear immediatly (else you might need a session restart)
For moving the clock, go to org.gnome.gnome-panel.layout.objects.clock and change pack-type from center to end.
The change does not happen automatically, you need at least to remove it from org.gnome.gnome-panel.layout object-id-list and
readd it to see the effect.

linas wrote:I tried with Alt, Ctrl, Meta... There's no move or remove anywhere. Maybe it appears only with gnome-shell and not with fallback?
It only appears in fallback. When i was using fallback, however, I wasn't able to get the alt+right-click menu to appear while Compiz was running.

  • [solved] updates broke gnome

i know this is a stupid and noobish title, but i really couldn't think of a better one.
after a recent update, lots of things broke, and i'm not even sure if they're related to one thing or just issues of their own.
1, after the upgrade, i couldn't log in with slim (i use the inittab method). i tried going to runlevel 3 and starting slim as a daemon, same effect. right after logging in, the hard drive stops and i only have a cursor. tried starting gdm as a daemon, same thing.  the funny thing is that i can start gnome with 'startx'.
2, gnome-panel says the clock applet is broken, but i've seen topics on that.
3, nm-applet asks for a password (probably because i started the session with 'startx'), but upon entering it, the dialog freezes.
i only have one response: wtf?! i'm not a complete noob, but i really can't do anything about this.. is anyone getting these problems? is there a fix/workaround?
    thanks,

  • Fork and BPM

    Hi
I am using Fork in the BPM to collect and merge 3 messages. This is same as STD pattern "BpmPatternCollectMultiIf". It is working fine, it collects--> transforms --> sends. But always two PE are in "In process" state with a "clock" indicator. I tried putting Fork step inside a Block but no help. All receive steps uses a correlation to collect the messages.
I am manually deleting the process instance in SWWL and processing next set of messages. We are using XI which is on Netweaver 2004s.
Appreciate your help on this issue.
    Regards
    Prahllad

    Hi Murthy
I have given the condition necessary branches =3, let me explain you how it is behaving.
The first message arrives the PE instance is created and waits for another two messages. Once other two messages arrive the PE created by the first message goes to successful state and also all the message comes out merged into one message.
But the second and third messages have also created the PE instance and they will be waiting for other two messages each..
Where the end condition is for this, if necessary branches are 3 then all PE instances should end once merged message comes out of the BPM (or when the send step is executed).
Please let me know any further help to resolve this issue.

  • ATSServer fatal exception- runaway syslogd process & massive asl.log file

    Hi All,
(in lieu of a bug report)
My MacBook has recently started to go unresponsive (beachball of death), with only cursor movement and the clock indicating it wasn't frozen (Cmd-Opt-Esc didn't work either), forcing me to hard restart. When this happens Activity Monitor shows syslogd hogging all the CPU, and inactive memory climbs until it maxes out after which the fans kick in and soon after the computer goes unresponsive. I checked Console and found a 1GB+ asl.log file (which has now mutated into a new file for each instance), with pages of this message (all same time stamp, 3 examples listed):
    [Time 2007.11.16 03:39:43 UTC] [Facility user] [Sender /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/ATS.framewo rk/Support/ATSServer] [PID -1] [Message FOExceptionMainHandler caught a fatal exception at 0x00018d03;] [Level 3] [UID -2] [GID -2] [Host oli-studholmes-computer]

My only workaround is to force-kill the syslogd process. Since this happened I've updated from Mac OS X 10.4.10 to 10.4.11, but the problem hasn't stopped. I haven't recently installed any other software.
I first noticed this trying to open a file containing Japanese text in TextMate, which led me to this page:
    http://d.hatena.ne.jp/hetima/20061102/1162435711#c1184639718
(basically others having the same problem, using the same workaround, and the last comment saying it also happens in other text editors and looks like a system bug).
At this time I did a Disk Utility repair which found errors and repaired them (although I had to do the repair via Target Disk Mode as I couldn't boot from the Tiger install DVD and even the verify process would fail due to an underlying process (i think it was diskutil-can't remember) hanging). Also because there was the suggestion of a font problem I checked my fonts with Font Book (all ok), and cleared font caches with Font Finangler (this was all pre-10.4.11 update).
I'm going to go to the Apple store once I back everything up. I'd be interested if anyone else has seen this, and if so if it was related to Japanese fonts or not.
    peace
PS how do I prevent Jive from turning all those nice square brackets into links I wonder? the pretag in square brackets doesn't do it, and [code] isn't enabled...
PPS this link to a [Mac OS X 10.3 ATS Services bug report|http://daringfireball.net/2005/03/fontcaches_gonewild] might also be relevant

  • Problem with western external hd

    Hi everyone.
I have a western external hd that i used with a pc and now i'm using it with a mac, but i can't move or delete anything when i'm using it with the mac.
What can i do to change that??

    Thanks Neil,
Hope you don't mind me butting into this thread but I have a similar problem with my Macbook Pro. I tried the second option (someone told me that from the apple store here). Now when I connect the external drive (a 1 TB Seagate Freeagent) to my PC I can see the icon in my taskbar (near the clock) indicating my drive is hooked up via the USB. But when I open up "windows explorer" or "my computer" windows I can't see the external drive at all.
I have partitioned the external drive in my Macbook Pro but I imagined my PC would at least be in a position to see 1 of the partitions if not all. Would the partitioning have anything to do with this?
Would you please advise any means for me to use my external drive on both computers?
    Thanks

  • Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.

Hi, I'm pretty new to Linux and I could really use some help on this one! This is my second Arch install. After the first, which I installed to learn about Linux,  I figured there'd be more user-friendly and complete distro's (like SUSE, Debian, etc.). I was wrong
Anyway, this is my second install, but ever since I installed it (and X11, ati-fglrx, gnome and gnome-extra) certain apps give my this error when run from a console. All of them start and work perfectly, except one: gnome-keyboard-properties. I fails to run and starts a bug buddy report window, while outputting the following messages on the console:
    [***@*** ~]$ gnome-keyboard-properties
    (gnome-keyboard-properties:4727): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.

I've generated the en_US.utf8 locale using locale-gen, edited rc.conf accordingly and I used the hwd-generated keyboard entry for xorg.conf that worked on my previous install.
I've been trying things with my xorg.conf. I used to leave XkbLayout and XkbVariant empty, like in the hwd-generated example, but now I'm using this:
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Cherry"
    Driver "keyboard"
    Option "CoreKeyboard"
    Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
    Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
    Option "XkbLayout" "us"
    Option "XkbVariant" "intl"
    EndSection
This has a noticable effect: both ' and " require an extra spacebar hit. Pretty anoying, but this at least shows is had effect on gnome. Also, the Keyboard Indicator Applet shows the layout correctly.
I've tried other things, like uninstalling gnome and gnome-extra using pacman -Rnd as to leave no trace, and reïnstalling it. And I can't find anything on Google...
    PS I'm running this on an athlon64 with a radeon x700, ftp-install from a 0.7.2 i686 base CD.

I've done a total reïnstall - again. gnome-keyboard-properties works again! However, I still get these errors when opening Gtk-apps:
    (gksu:4669): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
    Using the fallback 'C' locale.
I've left xorg.conf's XkbLayout emply, which defaults to "us". There's a related option called "KEYMAP" in rc.conf, which has "us" as default, too. As I said, gnome-keyboard-properties now works and correctly displays "Generic 105-key.." etc. and "U.S. English".
I think I now have /etc/hosts' loopback correctly setup:
    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain myhostname
    192.168.x.xxx myhostname.localdomain myhostname
I'm really out of ideas here. Does anyone know whether this is normal or harmful?
    [[ EDIT ]]
Solved. I actually forgot to generate the locales this time. I don't know what it was last time...

  • Battery not being recognised

So I installed Arch on my Acer Aspire 5745g laptop the other day and installed everything as one might normally do.  When I loaded gnome 3 though the batter indicator showed 0% whether or not the battery was charged, not charged or on AC power.  About an hour ago is got around to installing ACPI to check what my actual battery level was and ACPI reported that the battery is unknown and therefor at 0% charge and no rate info available.  So I'm wondering whether this is a fixable problem, and if so how to fix it, or if the only way to solve it would be to get a new battery.

    I am running Linux-3.3.5-1.
UPDATE: I can now confirm that the battery doesn't seem to be recognised by LinuxMint 12 either

  • No keyboard layout indicator in Gnome 3.6

After upgrading to Gnome 3.6 I see no keyboard layout indicator in the top gnome-panel. As I have 3 layout, this is very inconvenient. Any ideas?

this also happen for a brand new user. So my setup is not the culprit
BUT this works if I login from the console with startx so not with gdm.
So gdm is the problem here. Any idea ??

  • Gnome 3.6 "Clock" has quit unexpectedly

Just like in this thread I wasn't able to log in after sys upgrade.
To read the wiki article I started X and gnome-session manually.
This was the first time when the clock-applet failed to load.
Then following the article I did 3 things:
    In grub.cfg added init=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd
In rc.conf cleared the DAEMONS array.
    # systemctl enable gdm.service
    # systemctl enable NetworkManager.service
Now gdm starts automatically, but the clock applet still fails to load.
"Hardware Sensors Monitor", "System Monitor", "Notification Area" can't load too.

Same, here. This is the output I see in my logs:
    Nov 06 10:41:45 sunflower kernel: traps: clock-applet[5406] trap int3 ip:7f418ed02a47 sp:7fff68d82920 error:0
    Nov 06 10:41:48 sunflower kernel: traps: clock-applet[5422] trap int3 ip:7fadcc7afa47 sp:7fff7ae91f40 error:0
    Nov 06 10:41:49 sunflower kernel: traps: clock-applet[5427] trap int3 ip:7f8e5b203a47 sp:7fffd8170220 error:0
    Nov 06 10:42:04 sunflower kernel: traps: gweather-applet[5436] trap int3 ip:7f6096922a47 sp:7fffa6335d40 error:0
That's trying to add the clock once, reloading twice. Trying to add weather once.
