Gnome 3.16 Wayland Setting Display refresh rates

In X I have done this with xrandr, but in Wayland there is no such option that I know of.
What would be the way to do it?

Yes I did try disabling Wayland.
Unfortunately my system is facings bugs with the open source drivers, even the xserver has issues starting. It's just unusable

  • Poor display refresh rate during playback

When I say "display refresh rate" I'm talking about the various toolbars,  level meter and the clock.  I'm not talking about the time coding like in frames  of a video clip vs. minutes/seconds/decimal but how fast those toolbars visually  refresh their information.  In Cool Edit Pro 2.1 they were real-time.  Level  meter and clock would refresh at the max speed of 61 frames per second (limited  by monitor).  However Audition refreshes at what I am guessing is around 12-15  FPS.  The level meter is like watching stop motion animation and the clock skips  along by fractions of a second instead of a smooth continuous spin.  That rate  makes the whole program appear sluggish and the level meter bars do not peak,  just the resulting tic mark appears.  The sound is fine and uninterrupted.
It is not a hardware issue.  This is primarily a gaming rig  (Nvidia 280 GTX, X-FI Fata1ity, Intel Quad core, 4GBs RAM, Vista 64x, etc.).  I do  audio editing as a side job.  I've used versions of Cool Edit Pro for nearly a  decade on many machines including this one and I want to upgrade to a  multi-core/multi-thread version to make editing faster.  Is there a setting  somewhere to set faster display refresh rates?

I don't think so. That would be the setting that replaces any form of Vista with XP, I suspect, and M$ thoughtlessly didn't add that... but you could try turning off every single service that isn't needed, and try unplugging any form of networking connection - the polling these do can screw the response of your entire system. That's why dedicated DAWs are built - to get around all of the throttling that your average or gaming PC does. Look for an app like EndItAll, and run it before processing audio. No, I don't know why it happens, but there have been problems with video displays almost forever with CEP/Audition - simply because as an app, it doesn't prioritise video.

  • Solaris8+patch display refresh rate problem

I have installed the 109401-05 video patch for Solaris8 to update the video
card drivers. But now at 1600x1200 screen resolution the maximum display
refresh rate is always 60Hz, altough higher settings in kdmconfig. The behaviour is similar at 1280x1024, but the max. rate is 80Hz. I have tryed
this with the ATI Xpert2000pro and Xpert98 graphic cards.
Without the patch the refresh rate is OK (with the Xpert98 card). The
    motherboard is Abit KT7.
Does anybody know what could be the problem?
    Thanks, Albin

Hmm, if the refresh rate was OK before you installed the 109401-05
video driver patch, why don't you uninstall that patch? Or do you
need some other bugfix included in 109401-05?
Otherwise the 60Hz problem problem with certain old ATI cards is not unknown to me:
See this Solarisonintel posting for a possible solution.

  • How to set screen refresh rate for linux console (runlevel 3)?

    Hi,
I have a CRT monitor, so the refresh rate is always needed to configure. I use 720x400 resolution in console, but the refresh rate is 70hz. Are there any ways to get it higher in console (with KMS or without)?

    thank you for replies
But setting the resolution, e.g. vga=773, would not change the refresh rate, or would it?
It would, but usually not to the maximum provided by the monitor. May be it is real to find the place, where it looks for available resolutions linked with refresh rates...
According to the Gentoo page I can use uvesafb for setting refresh rate as well as other settings. And then I found uvesafb page in ArchWiki. But the way to set proper refresh rate is not so easy as I expected, because I need to install uvesafb and it needs additional daemon. And also I think KMS can't work here. However it's better than nothing, if I don't find any other way, I will try this one.

  • Second display refresh rate lower in Mac OSX than Windows

I use a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2070SB CRT monitor connected to my MacBok via a miniDVI to VGA adapter; I span the desktop on both monitors (i.e. I do not use the Mirror Displays option). I use this configuration in both Mac OSX and Windows (via bootcamp). On Windows, I can set the refreesh rate of my CRT monitor to 75 Hz at 1600x1200, but I am stuck to 60 Hz on Mac OSX at 1600x1200. To get a more respectable refresh rate on my CRT, I need to lower the resolution to 1400x1050.
Obviously, the video card of the MacBook can handle a second display at 1600x1200 at 75 Hz since I can do that on Windows. Any ideas how to get the same result on Mac OSX?

Either DisplayConfigX or SwitchRes X should be able to remedy this. But I am at a loss to explain why OS X would itself not allow for the 75Hz choice.

  • T61p Wuxga display refresh rates

    Hi!
I suspect that my GNU/Linux installation sets the wrong refresh rates for my 15.4" WUXGA 1920x1200 display. It sets the vertical rate at 50, which seems very low.
I can't seem to find what the correct rates are in the documentation that came with the computer. Does anyone know? If you don't know the horizontal rate, I'm still interested in the vertical rate. What does Vista set? (I removed Vista, so I can't check myself.)
    Please help!

Adamaxus -- searching the web I find a lot of such claims. I didn't know this. But I do know from my own experience that vertrefresh has a huge impact on my stationary lcd monitor. Are there different kinds of lcds that behave differently in respect to vertrefresh?
Anyway, I don't have any flicker on my T61p screen. It only bothers me that xorg and nvidia-settings report different refresh rates, and that some GL applications might get the wrong info and slow down because of it.This is one of the explanations floating around the net for slow gl desktops on T61p.
If 50 is the default refresh rate, I would think that xorg is right and nvidia-settings is wrong (it reports 60).

Can anyone tell me what is the optimal refresh rate is for the T61p display with 1680/1050 resolution with the quadro fx 570m video card. mine is set to 40hz and max is 60 hz. which is better for viewing???

  • Setting the refresh rate on B1 dashboards

    Hello,
is there any way to modify the refresh rate for the standard SAP B1 dashboards that come with PL12?
any idea what the default refresh rate is?
    thanks, dan

    Hi Dan,
Currently, there is no refresh rate setting for dashboard in PL12. You could request it in the SBO product development collaboration forum.
I think it is because the report is for dashboard SAP B1. Dashboard is management report and is not daily operational report. No need to use refresh rate.  Probably, when run it in the excelcius, you can set it. I am not sure but you may check it

  • IPad Air display refresh rate for full screen movies?

What exactly happens if I play a movie on the iPad full screen with a rate of e.g. 24p, 25p or 50i?
The stated maximal refresh rate is 60Hz.
Will this rate be reduced when playing movies?
Or will frames be dropped / interpolated if the frame rate and the refresh rate don't match?
Or will the movie be sped up / slowed down?
When using the HDMI adapter, I can see that it always outputs 60p, regardless of the movie frame rate. But maybe this is different on the internal panel.
    Thanks for any insight!

Should it happen again double tap the screen with three fingers. Then go to settings> general> accessibility> zoom> off.

  • MacBook Pro 6,2 Display Refresh Rate

I'm curious, can we get an official stat on this from Apple?
For external monitors you can select a refresh rate.
I'm assuming it's 60 Hz, but sometimes I'm convinced it's actually higher. There seems to be less ghosting than on any of my Windows machines, even though one of them has an IPS LCD screen.
I'm assuming Apple doesn't use 120 Hz screens on any of its products, but it also seems impossible to tell!
Note that this is useful to know for Syncing to Vblank in games and also for video playback, especially for stuff recorded in 24 fps.

Apple uses 60 and 75 Hz typically.

  • MBP display refresh rate

MBP6.2, 8GB, 128SSD, GT330M 512 MB: when connected to a Dell U2711 monitor at 2560x1440 the only refresh rate available is 36Hz - is this normal? where can I get some more info about this kind of limitations?

Are the grey tones in text mate based on patterned pixels? You may have to zoom the screen to check for sure. If so, and if it's an option, change to true gray tones from patterned ones and see if that fixes the problem.

  • Stream 7 Display refresh rate stuck at 53Hz

60 and 59hz are very common, 59 is a fall back too the fact that SD broadcast is not 30fps but 29.97fps. The refresh may actually be just a bug in how it is being reported back to windows if it was something introduced in the newer bios.  It had no impact on the buzzing headphone line problem.

jeffmdaemon wrote:I would HOPE someone didn't make the mistake of buying the stream 7 with gaming in mind. Its neat to beable to do some things with its capabilities, but the lack of basic dos support in the cpu itself, low memory, non dedicated gpu, and the allready limited touch support for games in windows, nothing about this tablet says it is made for games.
I doubt anyone would, as you mentioned there is no way anyone sees it for gaming. However we enthusiasts will always find a way around all those limitations you mention up there as long as the hardware permits it. I am not from the dos era, so anything that needs dos I probably wouldn't bother with. Just plug in a good old keyboard or maybe a gamepad, and most older games, especially emulation becomes easily playable. A tablet is after all, made for content consumption, and what do you see others do with theirs? They play games as well, and watch videos on them. In the end you are going to stare at the screen all the time, as long as the other hardware supports it, why not just give the best screen you can within whatever budget you set? Therefore, why would HP limit their own specifications to 53Hz, when it has been shown to run just fine at 60Hz? Why would they cripple their own screen which is the most basic neccessity of any content consumption device? Like I said, at least put a changelog to explain. It never brought any benefits, nor does it fix any problems that everyone here faces.

  • Setting refresh rate with DisplayMode

I'm having a problems setting the refresh rate of the DisplayMode, originally I used this method to create a display mode:
DisplayMode(320, 240, 16, DisplayMode.REFRESH_RATE_UNKNOWN);This worked fine and ran my game at the above resolution, however I want the refresh rate to be 60hz so I tried this:
DisplayMode(320, 240, 60);The game ran, but the resolution did not change and the game played in a little 320, 240, box in the top left corner of the screen leaving the rest of the screen white. This is the same problem I have when ever I try the GAGE shooter demo.
Am I setting up the DisplayMode right, or is this a known bug.
I've only tried this on my computer running winME and the SDK 1.4.2_01.
    Thanks.

Hmm, I think I'm missing something here but I just looked at GraphicsDevice.java and as far as I can see it doesn't check for refresh rates.

  • Refresh rate set wrong, mini wont work with TV anymore

I have a Mac mini hooked to my conventional TV. I tried setting the refresh rate to 58Hz. I wanted to see if it made the picture any better. The image lost all vertical sync and the image rolls very fast. I thought maybe a confirm dialog box would switch it back to 60Hz after a set time. It didn't
I tried putting it to sleep an waking it. I pulled the plug and restarted it. I reset the PRAM. The mini always switches to the bad refresh rate after start up.
I hooked the mini up to my 23" Cinema Display. Then I can use it fine. However, there was no way to channge the TV settings. I hooked it back up to the TV and it still wouldn't work.
So now I have a mac mini that wont work with a TV. The only thing I want to use it with. The only thing I can think is a last resort. To erase the hard drive and re install Mac OSX from scratch.
Is there anything I can do short of reformating the thing? There really should be a timed out dialog box to confirm the setting, al la (dare I say) Windows XP.

This is a real Catch-22 that has caught a bunch of us. If Apple wants lots of naive users to hook these up to their TVs as media centers, they need to have the kind of recovery mechanism you suggest. In the meantime, when I had the same problem and posted, there were lots of useful suggestions in this thread:

  • How to change screen refresh rate in windows 7sp1 and windows 8.1 iso image using dism

sir when i install windows 7sp1 and windows 8.1 then after the completion of setup when first time windows boots up then task bar is not shown and display is not clear and when i check under monitor settings the screen refresh rate is 60 Hertz and when i
set the screen refresh rate from 60 Hertz to 75 Hertz, then everything is OK, plz tell me why this happens?
why windows 7 sp1 and windows 8.1 automatically sets the screen refresh rate to 60Hertz instead of 75Hertz.
how can i set screen refresh rate 75 Hertz permanently in iso image using DISM ?

That is not a function of DISM. Resolution and refresh rate capabilities can be determined by multiple causes. Drivers are one, another is that most modern displays will report their capabilities to Windows.
You can specify display settings with an answer file however:
    <Display>
    <HorizontalResolution>640</HorizontalResolution>
    <VerticalResolution>480</VerticalResolution>
    <ColorDepth>16</ColorDepth>
    <RefreshRate>60</RefreshRate>
    </Display>
