Gnome 3.2.1 sleeps after login when battery dies

I'm on an hp mini and just noticed this (bug?) in one of the recent gnome updates. If I turn the computer off by command line or username dropdown, when I reboot and log in the next time it works as it should. However, if the laptop battery dies and linux is not shut down correctly, when I try to log in again it begins to load gnome, then dims the screen and no buttons or touchpad gesture will shake it from sleeping. After it fully enters sleep mode it can be woken up, requiring the password again after just entering it to log in, before actually loading gnome. I don't know if this is a bug or a setting that might need changed but any advice would be welcomed.

Nothing... it is just a quirk of mine. If i have gnome, i'd rather install gdm over lxdm. However, if lxdm is better than gdm, there's no problem by trying it. Btw, i love lxde. It's just amazing how uncomplicated it is.

  • Wont wake up after forced sleep when battery dies

I have a new MacBookPro OSX 10.7.2 from the first day the laptop will wakeup from hibernation or sleep after the battery dies.
I try to let the battery cycle fully before plugging in and reguaarly the laptop shutsdown when the battery is low.
When i try to turn it back on it starts the wake up process with indicator bars showing progress, then it stops at about three bars and just beeps indefinatly until i power off the machine when i turn it back on it comes up but ive lost everything i was working on!
very frustrating, why wont it properly wake up after a low battery hibernation??!????

Well the question is when this happened the first time and you lost everything you were working on why did you let it happen the second time or the third or forth and not plug the computer in.
It may be frustrating but there is only one person to blame and that is you. Not Apple and not the computer. As YOU knew exactly what was going to happen but you let it happen anyway.
The true definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting a different outcome.

  • I loose everything when battery dies

When my battery dies, the computer does not sleep but rather powers off.
Sometimes (not often) the light under the trackpad is lit like it is asleep, but it will not wake, I have to hold down the power untill it is off then reboot.
Usually what happens is the battery dies and the computer turns off (no pulsing light), and I loose all my open windows and stuff I havn't saved as if I had manually turned it off.
Also, when the battery dies, attaching power will not allow me to instantly restart. I have to let it charge for about 10 minutes before it will turn on.
Hardware check thing, says there is nothing wrong.
    Any ideas?

It is two years old, but still holds 1872 mAh and the cycle count is only at 278.
I never knew what resetting the PMU was but I read that page and I do it often. When the computer will not boot while plugged in after the battery dies I sometimes try that, but it doesn't help.
Also, quite often, my computer goes back to December 31 1969. But more often than I reset the PMU. Could this mean my PMU is bad?
    Thanks for the help.

  • MSI GS70 20D Touchpad not working after login when I upgraded to 8.1

Short situation: I upgraded my laptop to windows 8.1, and the touchpad stopped working on the start/desktop screens. I could move it before I logged in, and after it would work for a few seconds, but then it would just stop. An external mouse works just fine, but I still don't want my touchpad not working.
I looked on the MSI USA technical support page, and it said to delete the old drivers for the touchpad and download new ones. I deleted the drives, but every time I try to download the new ones, I get a window that says my touchpad isn't plugged in, and that the drive isn't compatible with my touchpad, which doesn't make sense to me because I looked up my product specifically and tried all three touchpad drivers. None of them worked.
Now I can't use the touchpad at all because I deleted the drivers, so it would seem that the computer doesn't know it has a touchpad because it won't register the touchpad in my devices tab.
Does anyone know what I can do to solve this? Or to at least get the touchpad to register again? I just got this computer for Christmas, I've treated it very well so it hasn't banged up against anything or been dropped or mistreated, so I cannot understand why this is happening. It worked before the 8.1 update, so I'm pretty sure the issue has something to do with that.

UPDATE: So I managed to fix the touch pad by deleting the driver and rebooting, which is weird because I removed the driver completely and never reinstalled it, so the computer shouldn't really know it has a touch pad. But every time I reboot the computer after fixing it, the touch pad goes back to it's old problem and I need to redelete and reboot all over again.
Also, My computer has begun to randomly freeze and not respond to anything, with one such event leading to a blue screen with a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR message. The computer has frozen a total of 6 times, at different moments; when I'm typing on microsoft word, at the login screen, even right when it starts up and the msi loading screen is up. 5 of these times have required a forced shut down, the first time the computer shut off on it's own because it ran out of battery power.
Finally, my computer has begun to periodically for long stretches of time stopped detecting wireless networks and is asking to be plugged into an ethernet cable to connect to the internet. This has never happened to me before, and I know I haven't turned off my network sharing center.
I'm not sure why this is all suddenly happening. It's not like I'm banging my laptop against walls. I'm very careful when I move and use my GS70, so these problems are greatly concerning to me because I just got this computer at Christmas.

  • Gnome 3.2 Locks immediately after login

I have Arch & Gnome 3.2 installed on my Thinkpad W520. On the first login after boot(Using GDM) , the screen dims and locks as if the screensaver had been activated, and I have to type in my password to unlock it. Does anyone know how to fix this, or where to start debugging?
EDIT: Pulling in the 3.1 kernel as well as the updated xserver from [testing] seems to have fixed my issues
EDIT2: Nope, that only worked because it broke the nvidia driver, which seems to be the cause of this issue

    Hey drdave397,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Check to see if there is a different Apple ID signed in to the App Store. You can sign out and sign in with your Apple ID.

  • Gnome 3.4 sometimes hangs after login

I've been experiencing this issue about 1/3 of the time I have booted my computer since the upgrade to Gnome 3.4. Sometimes I get an unresponsive desktop, where I can move the mouse, but nothing else happens. I am able to switch to tty1, login as root, and restart gdm, which works. Does anyone have suggestions? Any log files I should look at when this happens?

  • Position not saved when battery dies

I got an old 2nd gen nano, that is permanently connected in my car.
I use it to listen to audiobook.
    Problem is:
an hour after turning off the engine, ipod nano loses power (battery not holding charge), and next time I power the engine, nano comes back up, but has no recollection as to what was playing, or even if I choose manually the track - position is lost
any way to 'bookmark' or 'save' last position?

Youve got to be kidding me.
    Are you being serious?
The problem is not that the battery sometimes runs out.
The problem is that the SIM is not recognized when it does.
Its not "bad" or "wrong" or "improper" for your phone to die.
Why am i having this absurd conversation?
    Twilight zone...

  • Loss of time when battery dies

I had, what I hope is, a simple question. My iPod Touch is working fine except for when I let it battery die it forgets what time it is. I don't let it sit with a dead battery for to long, but it always needs the time and date reset when I charge it back up.
Is this normal operation? Or is there a backup battery in the iPod that should be keeping the time when this happens?
    Thanks for any help.

No, there isn't any backup battery.

  • T400 system time resets when battery dies

Anyone else having this issue? I've had it on many of our T400's here. If the user allows the battery to completely run out without shutting the laptop down, it will kill the bios battery too and reset the system date and time.

I have had this problem with other laptops as well..
I am guessing the problem is with the cmos battery on the motherboard and not the main system battery,
Whwn the system is shut down or the main battery dies, the cmos battery is the one that saves the time and keeps it updated.
Also its the cmos battery that powers the bios during system startup.
If you need to reset the time every time you start up the system , thats the first indication that the cmos battery is dying.

  • Banking web site after login fails to display properly and says I need to have CSS enabled. Can't find how to do that.

Running FF 5.0 on Win XP Pro. Several web sites stopped displaying properly overnight without a computer shutdown or FF shutdown. One of the sites is a banking site which displayed normally until after login when it failed to display and there was a message saying best viewed with CSS turned on. I've restarted both FF and then the computer and FF to no avail. Tried both No Style and Basic Style Views with no change. Did not do a power off full computer shutdown and restart yet. Has only happened in FF 5.0. Never happened in previous versions.

ios7 bookmarking web application to home screen via Safari, crashes after login and when we try to open any link inside from the icon that gets created on the home screen. Can anyone please tell me if there is any scheduled fix for this bug in safari?
From what i understand i see that - Cookies are not transferred between your website and your webapp when installing the icon on the home screen (for authentication purposes for example). It was working until 6.1 and now it’s not working anymore.
Can someone please tell me if this bug will be fixed in any future release, if so the ticket number of some kind that i can track, or if there is a workaround for this issue?
