Gnome 3.2 beta repo

Is there a Gnome 3.2 beta repo around?
After having used it in Fedora I'd really like to update if its easily available.

  • Where can I find a Gnome 2.32.1 repo?

    Hello guys.
Well, I've just installed ArchLinux with Gnome, but I forgot the fact that Gnome is already on it's 3.0 version. I searched around the forums, and I found this repo:
    http://arm.konnichi.com/2011/04/30
    , which doesn't have the latest version of Gnome 2 (2.32.1). I found 2.32.0.
And I want to know if I can use 2.32.0 with no problem or if anybody has a Gnome 2.32.1 repository.
    Thanks in advance.

if you are really are after a gnome2 experience (without using a substitute like Xfce - which most people will recommend).
their is a little known and very new fork of gnome2 - called "Mate" / "MDE" / mate-desktop
    it is available in AUR;
    http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=49902
    the website isn't in english (but this link should be in english);
    http://translate.google.ca/translate?js … redmine%2F
I have not tried this DE - and i know from reading their is the odd issue/bug, but if people really really want to hold onto gnome2, this is one way of doing it i suppose.... though, if i had to bet money on it ~ this DE probably will die a quick death. ~ as their will most likely be significant problems trying to maintain something that is deprecated...
or you could just use gnome3 fallback (with compiz in my case), as i do - which i think is much better anyway (after doing some tweaks and setting gnome3 up how you like). Personally, i like GTK3 way better than GTK2 - and gnome3 over gnome2 (that's my opinion anyway! lol)...
using gnome3 (even tweaked to be more like gnome2) also gives you the added benefit being able to follow gnome-shell development. (even though, i dont like GS - i still keep my eye on it).  your system will also be running the latest gnome apps/tools and backends rather than legacy versions (that may break at any time!)

  • Gnome automount and media.repo under Oracle Linux 6.3

    Hello,
I experiencing a strange behavior testing the following under Oracle Linux 6.3 (x86-64-bit) UEK2 with all latest updates. I selected the Gnome desktop packages using the "customize now" ratio button when installing the OS
    * Log in to a graphical shell such as GNOME
    * Insert addition media disk into the computer
    * Observe the media is mounted by the session
    * Wait a couple of seconds
    * Observe the /etc/yum.repos.d/packagekit-media.repo now exists
The above is explained in more details at http://people.redhat.com/rhughes/media-repo.txt
I don't know what the "addition media disk" is, but inserted the Oracle Linux 6.3 x86_64 binary distribution DVD, which also has media.repo file in the root directory. And btw, I'm using VirtualBox and the DVD is an .iso disk image.
    I'm experiencing the following:
Gnome automount works and automatically opens the DVD when inserted.
It does not create the /etc/yum.repos.d/packagekit-media.repo file.
It actually does create the named repo file, but only after one waits about 15 minutes. Perhaps this has anything to do with gpk-update-icon, but when run manually it hangs.
With the packagekit-media.repo file finally created. The gpk-application however complains: "The group list was invalid".
I know how to create a yum configuration file pointing to a local repository, which is also coverd in the Oracle Linux 6.3 distribution readme. I just wonder about the problem. Th automatic business with the media.repo file seems broken and useless. I did one more test using the original RHEL kernel which, as expected, did not make a difference.
Does anyone know more about it?
    Thanks!

I cannot create an SR, but I did some more tests creating my own DVD, playing with the info in the media.repo file. It seems matching the mediaid and .discinfo information alone doesn't fix it.
Actually some of the stuff is explained in the link I already used: http://people.redhat.com/rhughes/media-repo.txt. The problem seems that it doesn't work as advertised.
It takes exactly 15 min. before the system (gnome) automatically copies the media.repo file from DVD to /etc/packagekit-media.repo. If the file already exists it gets overwritten.
I think it might be a good idea to make an entry in the media.repo file on the DVD, such as:
    baseurl=file:///media/<disklabel>
    skip_if_unavailable=True
Then when inserting the DVD under gnome it would not be necessary to create a yum repository configuration file to use the DVD. The 15 min. delay will have to be fixed, which is only supposed to take a couple of seconds.

  • Are we going to have GNOME 2.28 betas in [testing] ?

It would be good to have them (like KDE in [kde-unstable]) in testing, since there are going to be some changes, like those regarding HAL, devicekit and the packagekit integration (which could cause problems, since most Arch users don't use packagekit).
    I'm just asking

Well, in the context of 'by default as part of Gnome', it needs to BE the default. That's where it all fell down with Ubuntu's initial Pulse offering (I suffered through that). Also, the .asoundrc needs setting, which I think is an alsa file. Pulse wants to take over ESD's old job, so apps still looking for ESD need to be presented with a binary which links to pulse. Stuff like that.
Also the app-specific stuff. Until the latest version audacity didn't work with Pulse. At all. In fact it was impossible using the Ubuntu repos to MAKE it work with Pulse, you'd have to recompile with Jack support and install pulse-module-jack (both sinks and sources would then have to be loaded). Flash initially was hit-and miss. The helper apps are needed (pavucontrol mainly, nowadays, but initially there was paman and padevchooser, both since deprecated), which Ubuntu, again, did not install. Things like mpd are not by default compiled for pulse, though they can easily be.
http://pulseaudio.org/wiki/PerfectSetup is a reasonably complete list. The Pulse devs (actually dev, it seems Lennart does most of the work, though I see Colin's fingerprints there too) have actually documented everything, but its not a quick job to do this integration.

  • File association in Gnome with Firefox Beta/Aurora/Nightly not working

Wiki instructions only seem to work with Firefox in the repos.

Try to delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox Profile Folder to reset all file actions.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/File_types_and_download_actions#Resetting_download_actions
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
    See:
You can also try to reset Firefox:

  • Will gnome-shell be in repos for this GNOME release?

There should be a preview release of it, according to GNOME 2.32 release announcement.
Are there any plans to include it to [extra] now?

you or me read the wrong release announcement.
there is no gnome-shell released along with 2.32 and even they wanted to do that, they can't
gnome-shell requires exclusively gtk3 which is not released.
there is no plan to include in extra or even in gnome-unstable.

  • Gnome 3.12 Beta

    Hi there!!
    Any news about that??
I'm trying to compile by myself but something's not working..gdm doesn't load..
If anybody knows can please post anything??

Well, 37+37 makes a total of 74. Then add another 19 packages for rebuilds and you're close to 100...
Given the fact that the buildserver is completely down at this moment, I don't think we'll see GNOME 3.12 before next week.
We will wait when it's ready.
I didn't know you were doing all the work at your own, if I had the skills, I would be happy to help.
About the buildserver, what are the problems? Is there something we can do to help?
Like building the packages/providing a build system?
It would be great if you guys could provide a VM or some solution.

  • [solved] ¿is better update or clean install GNOME 3?

For users GNOME 2 that wants change to GNOME 3, ¿is better a clean install or update?
In the Arch Wiki doesn't describe any difference about this, however, I want be sure.
    Thanks!

Re-installing is pain.. Especially if you have spent week/months tweaking your system too make it perfect just the way you want it.. You can probably back up the home directory and get back some of your configuration.. But re-installing all the applications you need again will be a pain..
Especially with Arch Linux and it's KISS principles, you HAVE to re-install every single application after you re-install the system.. It's not like Ubuntu or Fedora where you get some stock applications ready to use.. Don't do it..
As siriusb pointed out above, re-installing is the microsoft way.. With Arch (or in general with Linux), you can fix just about any situation with a little effort (sometimes even no effort).. Have a little patience, try figuring out what went wrong.. Post your questions in forums..
It is a LOT easier to fix your system (with help from people in the community/forums) than to re-install..
You would probably benefit from reading this: http://linux.oneandoneis2.org/LNW.htm

sorry for telling that but maintainers of arch repos are ... (guess who they are)
first of xf86-video-ati they should first off compile libdrm and ONLY THEN compile (package) that xf86-video-ati, what they did? they did it vice versa. result was — artifacts after startx.
now to gnome-shell topic... as prehistory: I moved some time ago from gnome-shell over awesome wm to kde. yesterday I wanted to give gnome-shell 3.4 a try.
installed from gnome-unstable repos. everything was perfect (I'm using all the possible staging and testing repos including kde-unstable, gnome-unstable) and never had any (too big) problems.
so.. I logged in to gnome-shell. it was a bit better than some time ago... but then I did: pacman -Syu and it broke that new gnome-shell which worked A MINUTE AGO!!!!!!!!!!! when I try to relogin, I only see the wallpaper, no panel, no shell, nothing, but a minute ago 3.4 was working well (!!!!! most of the packages were already 3.4.0 not 3.2.* as you could think!!!). I could still press ctrl + alt + backspace to logout (kill xserver), then I deleted all the gnome, config folders. start gnome-shell again, and see default wallpaper, STILL NO PANEL, and now that key combination to kill x server isn't working anymore, the only way to LOGOUT is to reboot with ctrl + alt + del -> reboot
then I went sleep, thought when I wake up everything gonna be fixed in the repos... but until now (over 24 hours) I saw quietly no updates according to gnome ever in gnome-unstable and staging repos.
the stupid thing is THAT 3.4 WORKED WELL until some packages got updated.....................
I just have deleted gnome completely, disabled the gnome-unstable repos, now I'm installing gnome 3.2 from extra repo, and then I gonna upgrade to gnome 3.4 from gnome-unstable
p.s. don't tell me that's because I'm using *-unstable repos, I'm using them over year already, and never had a problem I couldn't fix but that no panel issue doesn't even log the errors.
    Why are saying this here?
    How is it relevant?
The OP has intel graphics. Your problem has been resolved already. search the forums.
I've resolved my ati problem by recompiling xf86-video-ati localy before it was fixed in repos
again to my previous post: some disabled maintainer just updated udev from 181-5 to 181-6 and guess what happens after installing it? )) keyboard and mouse stopped working in X and it says while booting UDEV ... [FAIL] downgrading to *-5 fixed that
I'm just wondering.. don't they try to reboot before commiting/uploading new package version to repos?

  • Gnome-Do result window doesn't appear

Hi, I've just finished my first Arch installation and there's one last hiccup that's bugging me.
Whenever I have Metacity composite turned on, the result window in Gnome Do doesn't show up when I press the down arrow, as it should. Even if I mark "Always show results window", the first time I open Do, the results window show up, but from the second on, no luck.
If I disable composite everything works fine, but it's not because of the classic theme, as I've tried using it with composite on, but the same thing happens. Anyone got this behavior or knows how to fix it?
    Thanks.

I had Compiz installed and tried it a little bit, but it wasn't working right (no window borders for some reason), and since I had no need for it besides making Gnome Do look better, seemed a bit like overkill so I uninstalled it. I never noticed this bug while I was trying it on... I'll try reinstalling it and making it work right and post back my results.
    Thanks
    [Edit]
Using Compiz solved the problem, but the OS got a bit slower, even when I disabled pretty much everything I could... nothing unbearable, but noticeable. Besides, the Emerald themes aren't very nice...

  • "Show Desktop" icon in Gnome Disappears

    Hello All,
I have GNOME (installed from the repos).  Once every few logins (it seems pretty random) the "show desktop" icon (usually in the lefthand corner) is missing.
If I try and add it again, the new icon actually appears directly to the right of the original. If I logout or reboot, the original icon re-appears.
I have found nothing online relating to this problem, nothing in the forums (one post mentioned it, so I commented, but never got a reply).
I've actually had this issue in another distro since before I started using arch --- Fedora to be precise.  However, I've yet to see it in ubuntu, debian or slackware (and I use ubuntu at work every day, on multiple machines).
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

I have the same "show desktop icon"  problem --- I had this issue in fedora as well, was hoping it'd disappear in arch. did you ever fix it?

  • OpenOffice 2.0.2-2 menu and icons disappearing

Since my upgrade to OpenOffice 2.0.2-2 and/or to Gnome 2.14 beta (from Blaasvis' repo) the menu and icons in OpenOffice keep disappearing. Only when i hold my mouse over an icon or a menu it appears, otherwise nothing is there. I've tried deleting my .openoffice.org2 folder without any luck. What could be causing the missing menu and icons? Could it be a problem with some of the packages installed from Blaavis gnome2.13 repo?
    Any ideas?

I think maybe you need to delete more folders than what you've already done. I believe I also deleted folders such as .gconf and .gconfd, try those also

Tried that but did not work either   OOo opens and for a second looks like it will be fine, then the icons and menus go into meltdown. If I switch into KDE OOo works fine  :?:

  • How should I find out the stuff that keeps freezing the display?

    Hi,
I am using gnome-shell from testing repo on a laptop computer. The system(I do not know which part) has frozen several times in a same way. The whole display just suddenly stops reacting while I am scrolling down the web page in Chrome, opening a wine program, or something else. I have not figured out any pattern of its occurrence, so it's not repeatable for now. It seems that it's related to some modules or libraries used by Google Chrome browser or Wine because it mostly happens when I am interacting with Chrome browser.
It seems that only the display is frozen. I could not enter the tty with Ctrl + Alt + <F1...F8>, but I could move the cursor with my TrackPoint mouse. The NumLk/CapsLk LED also reacts normally. Even the network is working - when turning off and on the hardware switch of wireless, WiFi LED shows like the system is trying to reconnect the WiFi automatically.
If there's anything related Chrome, I guess one of the possible reasons is that when installing google-chrome-dev from AUR, I replaced libpci with libpciaccess in the depends array so that it won't cause a file exists conflict when installing.
Another possible reason is xinput, which I use for TrackPoint scrolling.
Now I am very curious in finding out what exactly it is that keeps freezing the display, but I'm not sure where to start. Could anyone give me some suggestions?
    THANKS

demian wrote:I'd start my DE from the terminal and when it freezes use alt+sysrq to regain control and see what happened. alt+sysrq+r,e,i should bring you back to the terminal.
thanks, but my SysRq and PrtSc are on same button, and when I press Fn + Alt + [PrtSc, SysRq], the system just recognizes as Alt + PrtSc. This is weird....

  • Tomboy has %100 CPU usage :S

I started using Tomboy but have a big problem with it.. When I log in to my session of GNOME, Tomboy starts and starts also using %100 CPU.. It also starts not minimized to the tray... I think that the applet that comes out of the box with GNOME is far better than Tomboy.. (at least for now)

disable it auto starting then run in a terminal to see if it spits out any errors
