Gnome 3.2 Locks immediately after login

I have Arch & Gnome 3.2 installed on my Thinkpad W520. On the first login after boot(Using GDM) , the screen dims and locks as if the screensaver had been activated, and I have to type in my password to unlock it. Does anyone know how to fix this, or where to start debugging?
EDIT: Pulling in the 3.1 kernel as well as the updated xserver from [testing] seems to have fixed my issues
EDIT2: Nope, that only worked because it broke the nvidia driver, which seems to be the cause of this issue

  • Initiate logout immediately after login

    Hello MacOSX users,
I'm in a situation here where I would like to force an unconditional logout immediately after a successful authenication to login. Users are authenticating against Active Directory. Using AD support already present in Snow Leopard. Have tsch script defined to run at login.
Reason I want to do this, is to deny access to our iMacs for community borrowers and visitors to our library. (iMacs are to be used only by students, staff, and faculty at our University).
I can easily identify the users that I need to block via my login shell script. Once identified, though, I don't know what to do next? How do I tell MacOSX to abort the login process and return to the login screen? In otherwords, immediately perform an "unconditional" logout?
I know I can block access by creating a number of local user accounts on each iMac computer but I'm trying to avoid having to do this. I'm looking for an easier way out. (I'm lazy :-)
Has anyone here ever attempted to do anything like this?
    cheers,
    Mark Ponsford

I found a fix for this.
    3 things can be done:
    1) Disable .NET framework 3.5 (which includes 2.0 or 3.0) and restart,if this doesnt work go to Step 2
    2) Completetly uninstall and reinstall Skype, if this doesnt work then go to Step 3
    3) Update the BIOS of your machine with the latest one
Any of the above steps should work brilliantly for you

  • WebDynpro expires immediately after login. After a refresh it's ok.

    Hi all,
the following behaviour is new to us since we moved from pilot to productive operation and therefore a lot more users are working with the application.
Our application consists of two webdynpro iViews. One in the dynamic navigation area of the portal and one in the content area. The last one is triggered via client side eventing.
The error appears by following these steps:
    - open browser
    - login to the portal
    - navigate to the webdynpro application:
We now can see the two iViews. No error at this time.
    - fire client side event at navigation webdynpro-iView
Now the webdynpro iView in the content area displayes an error message:
    500   Internal Server Error
    SAP J2EE Engine/6.40
    Details:   No details available
Above means the webdynpro application has expired.
By newly navigating to the application everything works fine until the end of the expiration time. It's set in the webdynpro application properties to 43200 (12 hours).
The error is reproducable by following the sequence of steps.
Does someone have an idea or hint to come to an solution?
    For example:
I wonder if there is something like a session pool which is full.
    Any idea is welcome.
    Thank you and regards,
    Marcus

at LoginSplash.main(LoginSplash.java:339)The sequence of events is read from the bottom to the top of a stack trace. So your error occurs when the LoginSplash.main method calls the LoginSplash constructor (that's what <init> means) and it calls initComponents and it calls equalizeButtonSizes, etc. It is possible but unlikely that the problem is with the methods supplied from java.awt - it is more likely the problem is with your methods.
    When equalizeButtonSizes calls getStringBounds, it passes g, a reference to a Graphics object. I suspect that g is null. You can prove this by putting System.out.println(g); after "Graphics g = getGraphics();
getGraphics() will return null if the Component is not displayable.

  • *HELP* My Macbook Retina (2013) shuts down immediately after login.

When the computer is off, I press the power buttom and the normal white apple logo comes onto the black screen.  It prompts me to login, which I do.  Then under my username and avatar, a grey progress bar appears (the background is not grey, it is a normal, custom background, nothing out of the usual).  The progress bar makes it about 1/4 of the way through, then it stops.
This issue started happening right after the trackpad broke.  I've fixed it since.  I thought the trackpad was broken because I got some crumbs stuck untder the sides of the trackpad, but I attempted to clean them out and gave it a day and the trackpad is now fine.  The computer allways shuts down though.  The guest login works... but I only get safari and I can't download my homework...
Additionally, I've tried resetting the display and doing some other sort of reset (I think it was holding down command+option+p+r or something).
    Thanks!

Try a SMC reset....Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support
if that doesn’t help Try NVRAM reset..How to Reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

  • Gnome 3.4 sometimes hangs after login

I've been experiencing this issue about 1/3 of the time I have booted my computer since the upgrade to Gnome 3.4. Sometimes I get an unresponsive desktop, where I can move the mouse, but nothing else happens. I am able to switch to tty1, login as root, and restart gdm, which works. Does anyone have suggestions? Any log files I should look at when this happens?

hadrons123 wrote:I don't know. Is there any particular advantage in keeping gdm?
Nothing... it is just a quirk of mine. If i have gnome, i'd rather install gdm over lxdm. However, if lxdm is better than gdm, there's no problem by trying it. Btw, i love lxde. It's just amazing how uncomplicated it is.

  • Gnome 3.2.1 sleeps after login when battery dies

I'm on an hp mini and just noticed this (bug?) in one of the recent gnome updates. If I turn the computer off by command line or username dropdown, when I reboot and log in the next time it works as it should. However, if the laptop battery dies and linux is not shut down correctly, when I try to log in again it begins to load gnome, then dims the screen and no buttons or touchpad gesture will shake it from sleeping. After it fully enters sleep mode it can be woken up, requiring the password again after just entering it to log in, before actually loading gnome. I don't know if this is a bug or a setting that might need changed but any advice would be welcomed.

  • Pages don't load if I try to open them immediately after login

I have had this problem for a while, probably since before FF 24.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Open Firefox.
    2. Close my macbook (locks screen).
3 Open macbook and log in.
    4. Go back to Firefox.
    5. Open a new tab.
    6. Click a bookmark.
What happens is the new tab will not load the page. I have noticed that if I wait a certain amount of time, say ten seconds, and then hit the bookmark, it loads fine. However, if I load the bookmark too early, it somehow can't load the website. Here's the weird thing. I close the tab, and open a new one, and load that page, and it STILL won't load.
My theory is that the network isn't quite in a good state to perform http connections when I first try to load a website. But Firefox is keeping track of open connections, so it won't let me make a NEW connection to the website again until the original request times out. So I am forced to wait for maybe 30 seconds until the site times out. Note that within a few seconds of trying to load the first site, other sites will load fine, but that original site will not load until the first request times out.

    Hi skykelsey,
A great way to check is to check the option in Preferences > Advanced > Network > How Firefox connects to the internet. You can auto detect a proxy or use the proxy configuration on the computer.
If you can, please also try this on another network to see if it really is network specific. Anytime you wait for 30 seconds, please do not be afraid to use that x or reload button in the url bar. This way you can force the time out.
If this continues to happen, please file a bug with this information as well as the steps you have already reproduced and used in you question:
    # Open up a web console and load the bookmark and the page. Take note of the times that you do each step and copy and pase the http traffic in the log and add it to the bug.

If you need more help, please start a new question with the bug number. :-)

  • Remote webapp freezes immediately after login in Server 2012 R2

Used the wizard and setup made a RDS deployment.  2 session hosts 1 server for Connction broker and License  and one server for Gateway and web access.
Regular remote desktop works fine.  Even through the web interface.
I just published Calc.  When I try to access it and show the details, it logs on the then freezes at "Preparing Windows".  Then the window will time out and close.
I am unable to find anything in the event viewer regarding this.
    Anybody have some suggestions?

    Hi,
    How is everything going on?
Firstly I would like to know, which version of RDP client you are using in your environment. I suggest to use RDP 8.0 or 8.1 for better feature and also the user must always use Domain\Username whenever logging to RDWeb App.
You can try to change the path of RemoteApp as per this
thread (Answered by phil). Also try to make default logon domain for RD Web, get more information from
    this thread.
    Hope it helps!

  • My MacBook Pro shuts down almost immediately after login.

I just installed my banks security software, Rapport, and an Adobe flash update. Does anyone know why it's shutting down, and have any hints on how to solve the problem please?

    nigelneedsanswers,
yes, there’s a way to start in Safe mode.

  • Skype closes immediately after login on iPad first...

Have uninstalled and reinstalled Skype several times to no avail

Do you have subscribed calendars? Such as a holiday calendar? I know for many folks Easter Monday is the culpret.
Another way to try and fix it, if you haven't updated your iPad to iOS 6.0.2 do it. Because that has a bug fix, but unfortunately it's only for iPad 2+ since iPad 1's can't take the update.

  • Blank Screen after Login

I am having an issue with an iMac that has OS X 10.5.8 installed.
Immediately after login I get a blank wallpapered screen (wallpaper is the same as wallpaper at login) w\ cursor. ...It never goes into the desktop where there is a taskbar and desktop icons. This started happening to a couple of my desktops after I installed ESET NOD32 4.0.12 for Mac (AntiVirus).
Has anyone else seen this issue or know of a fix.

You will have to see if you can start the computer via other means,
in that if you can start in SafeBoot mode, you may be able to be rid
of that anti-virus software. That likely is the problem's main cause.
    SafeBoot mode: restart, hold Shift key, until you get log-in screen;
login to get to desktop. From here, you can do a few things, but the
computer is not running at full system usefulness. You may be able
to remove this AV software, or see if it has an Uninstaller; and also
you can repair disk permissions in Disk Utility. Among other tasks.
When done, restart normally. (You could also boot from install disc
and use the menu options to run Disk Utility, and other jobs.)
If the product did not come with an Uninstaller in its software, you
may have to try & remove it by other means. These things will put
more into the computer's OS than just an item in the Utilities or
Applications folder; so an Uninstaller is likely a necessity. There
are a few shareware and free ware uninstallers, such as AppDelete
available online as downloads. If you can't find an Uninstaller in the
software you installed (may be in the app's folder in Mac) you may
have to contact the products customer support and ask how you
are to remove the entire product and its parts from your Mac.
If you are lucky, they may actually know where you could go in and
carefully remove those bits; and luckier still, if there is an uninstaller.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Auto refresh Portal after Login

    Hi All,
I need to refresh the Portal page immediately after login to load some content.
How to add page refresh code and where to add?
Probably that will happen in the masthead file but exactly what javascript i need to add.
    Thanks ,
    Amarys.

    Hi Amarys,
java script part is pretty simple.
    Referesh()
    window.top.location.href="/irj/portal";
The second part about where to place this will be tricky, as you may end up in infinite loop of Refresh.
One possible solution is to write your logon module and set a flag when the login is successful. Read this flag in one of the Portal component (Say Masthead), Refresh the Portal and clear the flag.
By the way why do you need this. If you can elaborate on what exactly you want to achieve, may be someone can suggest a better approach.
    Thanks

  • Outlook 2010 RPC over HTTP to Exchange 2003 users remain disconnected after login

    Greetings Guys,
I am unable to find a solution, Windows 2003 DC, Exchange 2003, all user were working great, RPC over HTTP, until Tuesday at about the same time perhaps before the MS update  KB3002657
all remote users using outlook 2010 did not have authentication popups as was noted from this KB. But instead all login successfully, ( looking at  the security logs in the exchange) , but all are remaining disconnected, immediately after login.
The users had already been configured with the registry DefConnectOpts RPC key, so I doubt their Outlook profiles are the problem.
I suspect the DC's ( we have 2 ) or the exchange have picked up an issue. I am out of ideas.
    Any help would be awesome
    Barry

    Hi,
According to your description, I understand that Outlook(Outlook Anywhere) client display disconnected after install MS update KB3002657.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
KB3002657 is a security update to prevent attacker logging on to a domain-joined system and being able to monitor network traffic. More details about this update, please refer to:
    https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/ms15-027
For your question, please try to reconfigure a Outlook profile for testing.
If it works, you can try to below steps to pop sign in page in Outlook client:
    1. Open Outlook---> File and click “Account setting”, then select account name and click “Change”.
    2. Click “More settings”, switch “Security” and check “Always Prompt for logon credentials”。
    3. Restart Outlook to login your account.
Once this done, you can uncheck this setting for convenience.
Besides, I find an similar thread about your question, for your reference:
