Gnome 3.2 (unstable) wallpaper and removable devices

hi Wonder,
A) Just installed gnome 3.2 from gnome-unstable. And I noticed that the default striped wallpaper is having too much contrast and it is visually unsightly unlike the default striped wallpaper in gnome 3.0 to 3.1.92.
Is there a change in wallpaper upstream? Cause I hate this too much contrast in the 3.2's default striped wallpaper.
B) I noticed "Removable devices" in the status bar after I upgraded to 3.1.92? I want to remove it. I rather like the gnome-shell-places-extension than this. Can I remove it?

Apple ID, app downloads and removing devices

Question 1:
I have 2 Apple ID, the one I use now is ******.******@live.co.uk the old Apple ID was ******-******@live.co.uk but while I am not using this Apple ID some apps/music I am downloading are going through the old Apple ID, I have no idea why or how and I have forgotten the password for it anyway so can someone tell me why this is happening and how I stop it? also is there any way to delete the old Apple ID?

all the apps I have downloaded even the ones not in use (some of which I will never use again) are still stored in iCloud, is there any way to permanently delete apps which have previously been downloaded?

1, what do you mean 'going through the old Apple ID' ?
You can reset an account's password via http://iforgot.apple.com
You can't delete an account, you can only remove any personal info from it and stop using it - all content that was downloaded with it will remain tied to it.
2, you can't permanently delete any item from your purchase history, all you can do is hide them via your computer's iTunes : iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases
3, delete them from where ? If you mean your support profile then you can log into your account and remove them : https://supportprofile.apple.com/
If you mean the 'manage devices' section of your account then you can remove them by logging into the account via your computer's iTunes : iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID

[SOLVED]Gnome 3 / Nautilus removable devices doesn't automount anymore

I use Gnome3 with gnome-shell and openbox. Recently on nautilus my other partitions and removable devices does not show up. I can see the partitions on the terminal and mount them manually but i need to fix this. Please help.

if he is having this issue in Gnome-Shell specifically, then it's not the same issue. *Gnome-Shell uses it's own internal version of polkit's agent* ~ as discussed in that thread.. If he is using gnome-fallback (with openbox?), then that is where the polkit-authentification-agent-1 issue applies.

Apple Ipad has been factory reset and removed from manage devices but the new user can't register it under a new ID

iPad generation 2 has been factory reset, removed from managed devices, apple support, and the device still continues to say it's locked by my ID and cannot be unlocked and registered to a new ID.

The phone will automatically re-appear when it connects to the Internet. However, don't get your hopes up, as thieves know this & will make sure your phone never re-connects so you can locate it.

This seems to have started happening after the last Itunes update I did as I was able to put music on my ipod touch a month or so ago. Is there some way to go back to an older version of itunes? I really have no idea what else to do since I followed every step on the trouble shooting page for windows 8.

I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
Go to 'Settings'
'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!

USB 3 Instability Issues - Windows 8.1 - Windows 8, The USB 3 Stack Is Unstable On Multiple PCs And Many Devices

The USB 3 stack is unstable in Windows 8.1 and Windows 8. I was hoping the upgrade to Windows 8.1 would improve the stability but no.
On two different motherboard systems I have had the same experience with 64 bit Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8.1 Pro compatibility with various USB 3.0 devices and hubs including:
An AFT PRO-57U front panel card-reader/hub, various Anker, Syba multiport hubs, and these are just a few I have tried, there are many more.
Symptoms are the same.
For example: the AFT PRO-57U slots are enumerated correctly as drive letters in Windows 8.1.
Then the drives (the PRO-57U slots) disappear, then reappear, then disappear, and reappear and so on. This happens consistently and the cycle time to disappear/reappear varies from 10 seconds to 10 minutes.
The Windows Device Manager shows the devices appearing and disappearing as enumerated devices. I have tried many trial and error methods to solve this, uninstalling and reinstalling USB motherboard drivers, different cables to the AFT PRO-57U device different
USB 3 ports for the devices and many more...
One of the hubs I bought specifically because it has the latest chip and firmware: Anker® USB 3.0 9-Port Hub + 5V 2.1A Smart Charging Port with 12V 5A Power Adapter [VIA VL812-B2 Chipset and updated Firmware 9081] This hub FAILs to enumerate some external
HDDs and other devices.
To troubleshoot I have tried many things:
I have disabled Windows Power Options, USB Selective Suspend.
I have disabled power options for each and every USB device in Windows Device Manager
I have uninstalled the Asus AI Suite 3 software and the issues remain.
I have tried BIOS settings for Legacy USB devices on and off and the issues remain.
I have tried BIOS setting for xHCI Mode - Auto, Smart Auto, On, Disabled
I have updated to the latest Intel chipset drivers 9.4.0.1026
I have all the latest BIOS, drivers, firmware, devices, - anything that is involved with the USB 3 stack.
Etc. etc. etc...
I have contacted Asus, Gigabyte Intel, AFT, Anker Syba, etc. and they are all finger pointing.
I have tried so many trial and error methods to solve the problem and I have run out of ideas.
It is clearly an unstable USB 3 stack and I am not sure who is responsible although I suspect Intel chipset drivers.
USB 2 is fine BTW. All devices work correctly when plugged into USB 2 ports.
From what I can tell, the entire USB 3 environment is a problematic P.O.S.
If anyone has any ideas I am willing to try anything I have not already tried.

Hey, I hope this helps you out a bit... I have had the same issue on my Asus K55A notebook with Win8.1 Pro x64 from the beginning! Thru my extensive research I found something interesting and the possible cause to all this! What I found was that by design
the xHCI Host Controller has virtual HS 2.0 Ports linked to the 3.0 Ports... Enabling compatibility with 2.0 devices ok... What happens is that the xHCI stack is unstable just like you say... The ONLY WAY I was able to fix the problem was by unlocking the
UEFI/BIOS to allow me full access to USB Configurations... I had to disable 2 of the HS ports under the xHCI Controller since I have only 2x 3.0 ports... This allowed 3.0 devices to be enumerated correctly under the xHCI stack and 2.0 devices now were enumerated
under the EHCI 2.0 stack... That's what worked in my case... I'm still digging around for more info about this issue because I find it so odd that no one discovered this when designing xHCI stacks and drivers at MS for Win8/8.1 x64... I hope I shed some light

How do I remove device from icloud it was traded in and wiped but still listed as a device

I Traded in my iPhone 5 at Verizon store on 9/20 for the iPhone 6 and watched the phone being wiped before heading home with new phone. However, when I checked icloud.com today it still shows the device in device list. Tried a find my phone but all that shows up is my iPhone 6 & iPad. Any idea how to remove device from iCloud!

The songs I don't want aren't checked and haven't been for a long time. You would think that would be the answer, but it isn't for some reason.Nothing has taken the songs away. Songs that I have deleted from iTunes and even the computer still stayed on the phone as well as songs that were NOT checked. In addition to albums I have NEVER downloaded... unless many, many, years ago and have no recolection of it. And they are NOT in my iTunes library or stored on the computer. Try deleting the old backup.
Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the device name and on the resulting screen, scroll down and tap on Delete Backup.

Okay, so i went upnorth with my family and my Lenovo 3000 c100 worked perfectly one night, the next morning I woke up and turned on my laptop and i got this message "Warning Unsupported wireless network device detected. System halted. Please remove device and restart". I've tried to boot into bios it wouldn't let me. It says to interrupt normal startup press the lenovo care button???, i'm guessing it's the wrench with a square around it located near the power button?. I have found nothing to fix this problem and i need my laptop for work tomorrow.

Undo removed Microphone and Speakers devices from ...

I had my audio skype options set to chose from the list of devices in order of the priority I've set. Recently I had some problems with my microphone (sorted out as it was a hardware problem) and I wanted to have a look at the options again. I noticed that no matter what I was dooing (eg plugging or unplugging my headphones from the IO jacks) the same options was chosen by skype :
-Microphone (Raltek High Definition Audio)
-Speakers (Raltek High Definition Audio)
And all the rest was shaded gray.
I thought I can remove them and the next time I open skype it will detect again the devices. But this was not the case ! How can I have all the devices back there ?.
Now, the input and output is sorted by raltek I guess, but I cannot figure out exactly how can I controll these. When I plug the headphones, it is taken as IO and when I unplug them the build in IO are taken.
I want the ability to have my headphones plugged (and other devices, eg third party webcam), and choose whenever I want to take the microphone input from my build in laptop or from headphones or from my third party web cam and so on. How can I achieve this?

Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete. Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

Gnome-shell removable devices

Hi guys,
I have a partition mounted on boot in fstab:
LABEL=DATA /media/data vfat defaults,umask=000 0 1
This shows up in gnome-shell on the removable devices icon (in the tray).
What is the reason for this?
Is it because it isn't part of /home /boot etc, or is it caused by the mount point or filesystem type?
(i.e. why doesn't /home get classed as a removable device, but mounting my data partition does?)
The reason i ask is i simply want to remove it from the removable devices list.

Yes i didn't realise until now that any partition mounted is added to the removable devices list (e.g. using nautilus)
It's not such a big issue, i just don't class it as a removable device
I would be happy with the simple functionality in nautilus (the tray icon annoys me for some reason).
