Gnome 3 ALT+Mouse window moving disabled?

Since when is the alt+mouse shortcut for moving windows disabled?
I'm using gnome 3 on my thinkpad and sometimes windows are just too big so that I have to drag them behind the gnome shell's panel.
I used to do thaat with holding down alt and the left mouse button.
But somehow this shortcut doesn't exist anymore in my system and I don't know how to get it back.
In the gnomes shortcut manager I found out that I now can do that with alt+f7 which isn't quite good since I also have to press the Notebooks Fn-Key and sadly I can't overwrite this shortcut with alt+left mouse.
Weirdly there are no keys in the metacity entry in gconf.
How to re-enable the old shortcut?

Uh! I kinda missed that in all the (alpha/beta/final) release notes I read. Thanks for mentioning.

  • Windows 2000 - disable 'autoraise' when focus-follows-mouse?

For convenience when using EDA tools I have my windows 2000 desktop configured as "focus-follows-mouse" with autoraise disabled.  This means I can work in multiple overlapping windows without constantly having the active window coming forward and hiding some other window that I need to see while working in the active window.
However, it seems that LabView (8.5 and 8.6) automatically implement autoraise.  That is, as soon as any labview window gets mouse focus, it automatically and instantly raises to the front.  This is particularly annoying if the mouse is just passing over a corner of or partially visible slice of a labview window.
Since there doesn't appear to be any config for this in the user options, is there any other way (registry edits, for example) to disable autoraise in Labview?   Switching back to "click to focus" mode is not an option.
    Thanks and Best Regards,

    Hi Jeff,
I am not sure what is causing this behavior,
but there are a couple of settings that you can try that may be able to
help with this issue. First, if you go to FIle>>VI Properties and
select Window Appearance in the Category dropdown. Select Customize...,
and try out the different Window Behavior settings on the right side.
I'm not sure if Floating or Modal will change this behavior, but I
    would try it and see.
    Also, if you go to
    Tools>>Options...>>Environment and uncheck Allow
drop-through clicks and see if this makes a difference.

  • When links are clicked, they do not fully display the NEW page until the mouse is moved.I know it is a current bug, and appears in no other browsers that I know of.

It was pointed out that my links do not function correctly on Firefox on a Windows platform. When links are clicked, they do not fully display the NEW page until the mouse is moved! I have now observed it for myself on my fathers PC running Windows XP on Firefox. My PC is on Windows7
It is the 5 version of Firefox, so I know it is a current bug, and appears in no other browsers that I know of.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
In Firefox 4+ you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • Gnome 3.10.1 window resize "stucks"

    Hi,
for about 3 days now, resizing windows works strange for me with Gnome 3.10.1.
How it worked before: keep Alt + mouse middle click pressed over a window, move mouse -> resize window as long as Alt + mouse click is hold
How it works now:  keep Alt + mouse middle click pressed, move mouse -> resize window even if the shortcut is released, until mouse left button is clicked
This disturbs heavily my daily common work habits and I'm not sure if that's an "improvement" (expected behaviour) or a bug. If that's meant to be a feature, is there a known way to get back to the previous behaviour?
    thanks,

  • Unwanted programs in ALT+TAB window

    Hello everybody,
I experienced a little problem days ago and it still present.
I have Windows 8.1 64bit English version with no "wierd" programs installed: I have Microsoft Office, Hyper-V enabled and that's all.
Every time I switch on my computer and I go to the Networks Pane (where you can enable/disable wireless and connect to a wireless network choosing from the list) or I search for apps using WIN button and typing the program name I see that these two programs
(Search Pane and Network Pane I just used) appears in my ALT+TAB window and they don't disappear.
I already cleaned the windows up: using ccleaner, hijackthis and using Disk Cleanup on my system partition. But all these actions didn't solve this annoying problem.
    Does someone experienced this?

    See the answer of dreik.
    That solved my problem!
    Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer and
    delete setting named AltTabSettings.

If the mouse is moved inside a Firefox window, everything resumes, so long as the mouse keeps moving. Keypresses while Firefox has the input focus also get it going (holding shift down works as well). If the task manager is open and the mouse is stationary over a Firefox window, each probe update performed by task manager will update things once.

  • [Solved] cpufreq interfering with window moving

    Hi there,
I'm posting my issue in Desktop Environments fully aware that it is probably not an issue of my wm but I just need some advice how I can figure out the problem.
I'm running fluxbox on a amd athlon II x4 with a ati hd5770 running catalyst.
If I activate cpufreq using ondemand or conservative governor several window operations slow down considerably. And they not just slow down (this was somewhat expected with crappy catalyst accelerating) but for example window moving just "hangs". If i try to move a window (opaque moving off in fluxbox) in front of a complex surface (like browser window) it really stops moving, following my mouse pointer with fully noticeable lag, leaving a trail of afterimages.
By chance I noticed that this does not happen if I run my cpus on full frequency. Moving windows still drives one cpu to 50% but it does not hang.
Apparently cpufreq interferes with "demanding" (ha, ha) X operations. My question is if this behaviour can be considered a bug of some component or if there is any way to configure my system to behave more responsive. (remark: Easy solution is to deactivate cpufreq but I'm searching for a *better* solution -> yeah I know I'm beyond help )
    Any help appreciated!

    Thanks! That did the trick!
It still tears like hell and drives my cpu to madness but at least the "hanging" is gone. However it seems that sufficient cpu-power can hide the terrible catalyst performance and create the illusion of a responsive desktop. Maybe this is why some people do not experience this "bug"...
I still do not like the idea that I have a graphiccard that is probably faster than my last three pcs taken together but does not provide decent (or any at all) 2d-acceleration. Maybe all will be well when the open-source driver incorporate support for my card. Blast you, ati!
    Enough ranting, thank you again!

    Hello,
When I use the "Set Busy.vi" to control mouse cursor appearance, it doesn't actually change until the pointer is moved. Similarly, the "Unset Busy.vi" doesn't change appearance until the mouse is moved. Is there a way to fix this?
    Thanks,

    Hi Dave,
I've tried this and it seems to work okay for me... do you have any example code you can post? Which version of LabView are you using?

  • Won't detect Logitech Bluetooth mX900 mouse unless moving it at startup

When I start up my iMac, it does not automatically detect my Logitech MX 900 bluetooth mouse unless I am moving the mouse around at the right moment. If I am not moving the mouse, a screen pops up saying the computer has been unable to detect the mouse, and doesn't detect it until I move the mouse around (sometimes it takes 3-4 tries before it detects the mouse). Moving the mouse before start up (ostensbly to wake up the mouse first) does not help. This doesn't happen with the mouse that came with my iMac, but I prefer having the buttons.
I have gone through the bluetooth set up several times and have set the preferences to automatically detect bluetooth devices, but still my mouse hides from iMac! Has anyone else come across this and figured out how to make iMac automatically detect the mouse? I like to be able to push the on/off switch and walk away while the iMac does its start up, but I feel like my cordless mouse has become an electronic leash from me to my iMac!
Logitech doesn't offer drivers for iMac for this particular mouse.
Can anyone recommend a better optical cordless mouse for iMac that doesn't have the same issues?

SORRY, my error. I just found the PDF instructions, and was able to get mouse installed and paired correctly.
By the way, this Bluetooth connecting IS way more complicated than a cell phone headset or speakerphone. I should have known.

  • Error during the installation of Windows 8 Apps while having Windows Firewall disabled

    Hello,
    I have a question:
I have Windows Firewall disabled in W8  and when  I try to install  APPs from the Windows Appstore  I obtain an error message saying something like:
"The app couldn´t be installed because Windows Firewall service is not running. Enable Windows Firewall service and try again"
I have the Firewall of Windows disabled because I already have another program for this purpose (monitoring/tracking my internet connections). So, that´s why I want to keep it disabled.
Does anybody know if this problem is going to be fixed and in the next future we will be able to install W8 Apps with the Firewall of Windows disabled?
Thanks in advance for the info.
    Regards.

    Hi,
thanks to the steps of the webpage you have posted I´ve seen the code of the error in the log of my computer:
error 0x80073D0A: when trying to install the package XXXXXXXX, the system couldn´t register the extension windows.repositoryExtension owing to the next error: The package couldn´t be installed because the service "Firewall of Windows" is
not running. Enable the service "Firewall of Windows" and try again.
It matches with one of the codes of your link.
I think this question should be fixed. I (and I suppose much more people) already have a Firewall different than Microsofts´one and I want to have access to the Windows Store running only my "third-part firewall". Having two Firewalls running is a waste
    of resources.
    Regards.

  • [SOLVED] Alt+Tab window switcher in KDE4.4 - no compositing effects

It's just one of these small nagging things: I cannot get the Alt+Tab window switcher to display a cover flow effect in KDE4.4. Compositing works well otherwise - present windows, the rotating cube etc. Only the window switcher keeps showing me a boring vertical list of thumbnails.
I've tried with a new user - same story.
Has anyone else seen this and/or heard of a fix?
It used to work in 4.3 (TM)
Last edited by grey (2010-02-17 17:13:34)

    @ploub: thanks - that worked.
It turns out that if you change the settings in Window behaviour / Navigate through windows, they get updated in Desktop / Desktop Effects / All Effects / Focus. However, if you enable a setting in the latter area (as was done in 4.3), nothing happens.
An interesting choice of user interface design: create an additional place for the user to modify certain settings, keep the original place and make the latter not work.
