[Gnome 3] Touchpad + USB Mouse

The touchpad works just fine by itself, and a USB mouse will work alright for a few minutes, but then the window manager stops accepting clicks from the mouse, although it still works alright within windows.
For example, after using the usb mouse for a few minutes, I can still browse the web inside FF with it or any other applications, but I can't drag the window around or open gnome menus. Thats why i'm pretty sure this is a gnome issue.
Any Ideas?

Although Gnome 3 is no longer in testing I get the same sort of behaviour. It takes some time for the shell to load and when I open a window I can't move it. When I move my mouse pointer towards the upper left corner and then close the activities function again, the move of the window is done.
The same if I click an option in a window. Nothing happens, until I do the mouse action to the upper left corner and closing the activities function. Then the click gets registered. But it's a bit bothersome to do for every action so I'm running in fallback modus untill I get this resolved.
If you have found a solution let me know.

  • K3011w - How disable the touchpad when using USB mouse?

Is there a way to disable the touchpad on the docking keybd when using a USB mouse? It is a real pain typing along and be in the middle of sentence some where else on the page.

    hi whippetguy,
    Thanks for Posting,
The touchpad on the dock uses a Windows driver and does not have any special Software to Disable it via shortcut,
How I found to go around on what you need is
With the tablet on the dock with no USB mouse yet
Press (Windows key+x) and choose device manager on the list
On Device Manager window open mice and pointing device and rightclick disable
This should disable the dock touchpad and Now you can plu in your USB mouse,
Before you unplu your USB mouse after use, Go to device manager again and Enable the device you disabled.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers!

  • Problem with udev rule to disable touchpad when USB mouse connects

Hi, I've been running Arch on this laptop, but I can't get this udev rule to work properly.
What I want to happen is: when I plug in my usb mouse, the laptop touchpad is disabled, and the left and right buttons are reversed (I'm left handed)
After following several tutorials, both from the arch wiki and other sites, I've come up with this udev rule:
    ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="input", RUN+="/usr/local/bin/USBMouse.sh"
    ACTION=="remove", SUBSYSTEM=="input", RUN+="/usr/local/bin/USBMouse.sh"
And here's the script it links to (USBMouse.sh):
    #!/bin/bash
    export DISPLAY=:0.0
    synclient TouchPadOff=$(/usr/bin/lsusb | grep "Microsoft Corp.\
Nano Transceiver v1.0 for Bluetooth" | wc -l)
    if [[ $(/usr/bin/lsusb | grep "Microsoft Corp.\
    Nano Transceiver v1.0 for Bluetooth" | wc -l) == 1 ]]
    then
    xmodmap -e 'pointer = 3 2 1'
    fi
    if [[ $(/usr/bin/lsusb | grep "Microsoft Corp.\
    Nano Transceiver v1.0 for Bluetooth" | wc -l) == 0 ]]
    then
    xmodmap -e 'pointer = 1 2 3'
    fi
Running the script from a terminal returns no errors and works as expected. The problem is when I plug/unplug the mouse from the usb port, nothing happens.
I appreciate any insight you might have about how to fix this, and thank you in advance

  • Having touchpad auto disable when external usb mouse is present

Apparently as hardware and drivers change this feature got dropped. Just purchased a Probook 450 and was very used to my touchpad having the option to turn off when a external usb mouse (logitech wireless) was plugged in. This new system had no such feature and I spent several hours searching for a solution of reason why.
Finally found one I took a shot on that worked just like I was used too.  Now when usb mouse is inserted the pc pops up message saying touchpad disabled and when unplugged the touchpad comes back on and pc pops up message saying pad enabled. No software change. No hardware change. Just a simple registry edit and feature back on.
Seems after doing my searches I might as well share this info for those looking for the answer.
    ***disclaimers***
*make sure your usb mouse works before you do this because if it dose not and this fails to work or you do it wrong you may have no "mouse" to navigate with.
*warning- editing the windows registry is not something for the clueless*- errors can cause major problems that said this is a very simple simple fix and hp should just perma fix it for all synaptics touchpad laptops.
*can not test this with non synaptics touchpads tho it may work if you can find the registry entry for that brand*
*this was done on windows 7 system with Synaptics touch pad and my prior one was windows 7 and so was my wifes dell laptop, all Synaptics, all Windows 7- no clue on windows 8 or vista*
*if someone has found an easier fix post it because took me hours to even find this*
Windows 7 OS- Start menu- in the programs and files box at bottom type  "regedit" without the quotes and press enter.
Click ok to continue on popup box. Window comes up with your system registry. Expand the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" then expand the "Software" then down to the "Synaptics" and expand that one. Left Click on the "SynTPEnh" and to right will  open the sub entries.  The one your looking for is "DisableIntPDFeature".  Just write down the last two numbers in the (   ) at far right of this line incase this does not work so you can put it back to what it was.  Once you wrote it down, now you can change it- right click on the DisableIntPDFeature and a window pops up.  Left click on "Modify..."  then in new popup window on right side left click on decimal and in the window on left of this popup type in the numbers 51.  Left click OK once numbers entered and close it and and then close the whole application and reboot.  Done.  System should auto switch from usb mouse to Synaptics touchpad.
If it does not work I am sorry- follow the above steps and type back in the number you wrote down before the change and save and reboot or reinstall the mousepad driver for your system from hp.

  • How to disable touchpad when usb mouse in on HP ENVY dv7-7259nr Notebook PC‏ using Windows 7

I would like to have my touch pad disabled when using my USB mouse or otherwise be able to manually disable it.  It is a pain to use when typing with the touch pad enabled but I would like to use the touch pad on occasions such as when I am traveling or if my mouse goes out. Not to mention, I would need to re-enable the touh pad if for some reason I have no mouse (keyboard shortcut?)
I am using windows 7 on my HP ENVY dv7-7259nr Notebook PC‏

This is what it looks like.
You should consider returning you notebook to the Windows 8 OS. There are many new features that it has that Windows 7 never did. Download use the free open source software called classic shell to give yourself a start button in Windows 8 that even has more features than Windows 7 start buton does. Once you use Windows 8 for a while you will enjoy it, especially the refresh feature and lower memory use.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Windows 7 drivers.
    regards,

  • Problem disabling touchpad when mouse present

    Hi,
I looked on the wiki to find out how to disable the touchpad on my laptop when a USB mouse is present. I configured xorg.conf in the correct way, then I added the following udev rules as instructed:
    ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="input", ID_CLASS="mouse", RUN+="/usr/bin/synclient TouchpadOff=1"
    ACTION=="remove", SUBSYSTEM=="input", ID_CLASS="mouse", RUN+="/usr/bin/synclient TouchpadOff=0"
This works to an extent, insofar as when I have a running system with X working the touchpad is disabled and enabled when the mouse is plugged in or removed respectively. However, when I boot the machine with a mouse attached, X starts up and both devices are enabled. The reason for this is twofold:
    1. synclient will not work properly when the X server is not running
    2. An "add" action is not generated for the device unless you actually plug it in on a running system
Is there any way to detect the presence of the USB mouse on boot and disable the touchpad? It would be much cooler if this could be done without looking for specific device names like /dev/input/mouse0, mouse1 etc. because then we will have a solution that works for everyone that we can put on the wiki.

OK, so this is just a skeleton of a possible solution...  Assuming that it is a USB mouse that we're talking about...  Run "lsusb and check the ID number of the mouse (it should look something like "07aa:2501", for example).  Write a little script which looks something like this:
    #!/bin/sh
    lsusb | grep -q 07aa:2501
    if [ "$?" -eq "0" ]
    then
    /usr/bin/synclient TouchpadOff=1
    fi
Change "07aa:2501" to the ID of your mouse, of course.  The script checks if the mouse is connected and if it is it disables the touchpad; if mouse is not connected then nothing happens.  I haven't checked if it works (I have no mouse to try it with here) but it should work.  Once you save the script and make it executable add it to /etc/rc.local so that it gets executed on every boot.
EDIT: You're right -- synclient is not going to work if X server is not running, so the rc.local is not a good place to execute that script...  It's not a huge problem -- you should be able to execute it during the start up routine of X (add it to xinitrc, possibly with sleep to make sure that X is actually started when the script is executed) or to autostart in gnome/kde (depending on what WM/DE you're using).

  • G570 USB mouse cursor freezing constantly

The problem will be explained lower but let me tell you how this was.
So I've had this problem like 1,5 years ago, after I bought the laptop. So I bought a cheap mouse for it back then, and I noticed that the laptop had problems with the USB mouse, fine, I thought it was the poor mouse, so I bought another cheap one, and it worked fine. Then I bought a gamepad, and again, this problem.
Today I bought a gaming mouse, and the problem re-appeared. I've been searching through the internet all day long.
Basically, the mouse cursor freezes constantly, also with that "plugged-unplugged" sound, but the touchpad works.
I've been looking all around, tried the mouse on another laptop and it works fine.
    I've tried:
    - Starting the laptop in safe mode.
    - Uninstalling/reinstalling the realtek USB reader or w/e its name is.
    - The device manager trick (I think you know what I'm talking about)
    - Been changing the OS many times after I bought the laptop, that problem persisted with the gamepad.
    - Tried different ports around the laptop.
None of them helped. BUT, I saw that actually it hangs when the CPU is throttling. I've changed my power plan to energy saver and the problem went away. I've changed the maximum/minimum CPU power, the problem went away.
But the frequency sets constantly at 800 MHz. What can I do to keep it at 2200 MHz (i3-2330M clock speed) and also keep the mouse working well?

    Hey Barrett_killz,
      Welcome to the forums
I would suggest you trying out a different USB mouse and see if that helps
Cant suggest anything else as you have already uninstalled and installed the Drivers

  • My external usb mouse no longer works on my dv7-3085dx.

My HP Pavilion dv7-3085dx, running Windows 7 64-bit, is having issues recognizing the external usb mouse.  Normally the mouse will work a few seconds to minutes before the computer makes the sound that the usb has been unplugged (even thouugh it has not)  I have tested the mouse on all the usb ports and on several other computers to make sure it wasn't an issue with the mouse cord.  Furthermore, I have tried using several different usb mice with the same results.  I have also tried using other usb devices on my laptop (e.g. usb storage devices and cooling fan) with no issues to their performance and no usb device disconnect sound.  Any help would be greatly appreciated as using only the touchpad makes gaming more of a challenge than I'm ready for.

    Hi,
As per the issue you have mentioned it seems like the HID compliant mouse had been disabled .
Try to open device manager (Click on start type in device manager in Search programs and files  click on device manager ) and that will open new window device manager go to Mice and other pointing devices click on the small arrow next to Mice and other pointing devices  check to see if there is a down arrow on HID-compliant mouse if found right click on it and click on enable which will enable the Usb mouse
If you find the above steps help you resolve the issue please click on kudos.

  • Evdev Doesn't Work for the USB Mouse

    Hey There,
I'm using xorg.conf because Xorg 7.3 doesn't do several things I need.. (keyboard layouts, nvidia driver, synaptics, etc..)
Any way, my xorg.conf used to work fine until I upgraded to 7.3 today.. I know that nvidia legacy (96xx) driver doesn't work because of the ABI change in this version, so I'm not mentioning about it..
The biggest problem I have right now is that my USB mouse doesn't work now with evdev.. I had to change evdev to mouse and protocol to auto instead which confuses and distracts me..
I think that evdev has some problems recognizing..

  • Can't install a usb mouse on my HP G70-250us laptop.

I can't get a Logitech usb mouse to work on HP G70 laptop.  Usually, it can't find a driver, and the mouse won't work at all.  This is with Vista 32.  After some research, I found that some laptops were having conflicts somehow with the Synaptics touchpad.  Usually, with them the mouse caused the touchpad to stop working.  Those comments were not about HP, however.
I also have an HP G61 with Win 7 64, and the mouse installs perfectly, and works fine at the same time as the touchpad.

  • USB Mouse Left Click not working, DV6700

I have been using 2 hands to operate the simplist functions on my laptop.
I move the mouse around with my right hand but if I want to click something I have to use the left button under the mouse-pad.
HP support gave me a solution that worked for about an hour (Reset BIOS to default) .
The right click on the mouse (ANY USB mouse) works fine. Its just the select button.
    I hate this!
    HELP!!!

    To CLARIFY:
ANY USB Mouse that I plug into my (DV6700 HP Pavillion) Laptop--- the left click button doesnt work unless I hold it down for over a minute and move it around clicking on and off over and over. It can take 2 minutes before it actually clicks. So, I use the left button under the touch pad. That means its impossible to use this computer for games AND dragging and dropping is weird because I never got used to doing it with a touchpad.
I doubt I will ever buy another HP because of this. I HATE IT!!!
Other USB products act weird too.
I have also deleted all USB components in Control Panel and had windows reinstall them with the wizard.
It worked briefly (couple minutes) then was corrupted again.
Am I supposed to just throw this thing away?

  • MS Usb Mouse Scroll Wheel Problems

Im having this problem on my laptop running arch.  I have the USB module loaded.  My XF86Config file looks as follows.
    Section "ServerLayout"
    Identifier "XFree86 Configured"
    Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
    InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
    InputDevice "Mouse1" "SendCoreEvents"
    InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
    EndSection
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Mouse1"
    Driver "mouse"
    Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
    Option "Device" "dev/usbmouse"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
    Option "Buttons" "5"
    EndSection
I get output from this usbmouse via (cat)
    cat /dev/usbmouse
    or
    cat /dev/input/mouse2
With both cats, I get output by scrolling the wheel and by depressing the wheel(5th button).
I really don't know what else to try.  I have tried putting protocol on auto, and switching device path to /dev/input/mouse2 with no luck.

    I have a Twinhead lappie. In /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 ( Arch 0.6 )
    ( which is looked for before XF86Config ) I have :
    Section "ServerLayout"
    # ps/2 mouse not detected
           Inputdevice "PS/2 Mouse "AlwaysCore"
    # Serial mouse not detected
           InputDevice        "USB Mouse" "CorePointer"
    EndSection
    Section "Inputdevice"
    Identifier "Serial Mouse"
    Driver      "mouse"
    Option "Protocol" "Microsoft"
    Option "Device " "/dev/ttyS0"
    Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
    EndSection
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "PS/2 Mouse"
    Driver "mouse"
    Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
    Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
    Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
    EndSection
    Section "inputDevice"
    Identifier "USB Mouse"
    Driver "mouse"
    Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
    Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
    Option "protocol" "IMPS/2"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
    Option Buttons"       "5"
    EndSection
That gets the touchpad and USB working for me, allowing for the fact that I copied it by hand, and may have made a mistake.
This works for me, but I must try  'ExploderPS/2'.
I think it was just a straight copy from whatever Vector-soho decided I needed.
Remember that X 4 looks for XFConfig-4 before it tries XFConfig. that can be a trap, if you edit config and leave config-4 alone, you make no changes to X runtime.

I've just gotten around to plugging in a wireless USB mouse from Microsoft into my iBook. Everything is fine except that when I turn sensitivity to the highest setting (the way I like it and have it set on my touchpad), the cursor slows down over clickable objects.
Is there a way around this? The touchpad doesn't have this problem.
    Thanks,
    James

Thanks for the feedback and sharing the comments from Apple. That kind of information helps other users!
Some other things you can try.
Uninstall the LCC using the original installer.
Then do a manual search of the Library files and delete plist files showing Logitech or LCC in the file name. (Find and Spotlight do not search the libraries by default so you'll need to navigate to the User and System libraries manually before doing the search.)
I used to have a Logitech track ball and I did notice that the LCC software sometimes did odd things I didn't like. After uninstalling the LCC and the plist files, the trackball worked just fine with the default Apple drivers.
The one sure way to get rid of the LCC drivers is to do an Erase and Install of the OS - It is a lot of work....
Short of a full Erase and Install, after manually removing the LCC drivers and plists, you can download and run the 10.5.5 Combo updater which may (or may not) correct faulty driver issues.

    Hope that helps.
