Gnome clock applet doesn't show weather

For some reason, i think with the upgrade to gnome 2.22.1 from 2.22.0 the clock applet stopped showing the temperature and weather icon that it used to show.  I don't know why.  Anyone know of a reason?

azleifel wrote:Just configured it as well - not something I've ever used before - and it worked for me.  What I did was add a location and check "Show weather" in the clock applet's Preferences dialog, closed the Preferences, clicked on the clock to bring up the calendar, clicked on Locations, hovered the mouse pointer over the location that I had added (which was under the world map) and clicked the "Set" button that appeared (which turned into a home icon).
Excellent! This worked for me and it also told me how less of a normal user that relies on GUI I am these days. Before I'd almost certainly figure this out but nowadays I feel reluctant clicking-through for solutions. Rather read and google it up. Anyway, you saved me hours for which I'm thankful!
d3br074 wrote:I tried what Azleifel suggested, but there was no "Set" button that I could find.  it just wasn't there!? and I have tried removing the clock and adding it again but no change.
Did you actually put your mouse cursor over the big neat clock? Did you try to move it around the timezone area name, the time (all on the right side of the neat looking clock)? In my case - GNOME 2.32.0 - the button was called Edit. After I clicked it GNOME requested my user password (the one I've had a GNOME session running for) and once I entered it weather icon appeared on the far left side of the clock applet:
rcorder wrote:
Turns out, the clock applet will NOT show your weather/temp unless the timezone in your location matches the TIMEZONE variable set for your system (in /etc/rc.conf).  For me, I had to change mine from 'America/Los Angeles' to 'PST8PDT', which is what I had in my rc.conf.  After that, everything worked as expected.
Here is the same bug reported in Ubuntu:
    http://www.mail-archive.com/ubuntu-bugs … 54308.html
Seems irrelevant. I had two different timezones and was able to get it working as described above. Nevertheless, I tried what you suggested and put a timezone I choose for weather report in clock applet and that did not show it until I clicked Set button and entered my password.

  • How to fix my gnome clock applet

    Hi there,
    When I left-click on the gnome-clock-applet to activate it, it shows the calender in the middle-right of the screen instead of in the bottom-right (the applet itself locates in the bottom-right). Anybody knows how to fix it? Thanks in advance.
    Hope that I make myself understood, because English is not my mother tongue and I don't know how to upload a screenshot to show.

    And when I place the gnome-panel in the top, the clock applet acts correctly...Weird...

  • Applet doesn't show after plugin update & using JNLP, no errors

    We have an applet that worked after the plugin update, then I wrote the JNLP file and can't get it working, it seems to be loading but doesn't show anything. Hi,
    since JRE 6u21 the JNLPAppletLauncher doesn't work anymore.
    The Java 3D's jars and native libraries hosted by Oracle.Sun can be accessed by including the extension http://download.java.net/media/java3d/webstart/release/java3d-latest.jnlp. More details can be found here : Java 3D Web Start Release https://j3d-webstart.dev.java.net/release/index.html

  • My java applet doesn't show up in Firefox

    We have a new Mac running OSX 10.8.4 and installed with Firefox 21.0 and Java 7 update 25. The web applet/plugin doesn't show up in Firefox, if we go to java.com and do the tests it just comes back 'We are unable to verify if Java is currently installed and enabled in your browser'
    The same test in Safari comes back fine and shows Java 7 Update 25 installed and working.
    The plugin does not show at all in Firefox add-ons. Browser functionality is enabled in the main Java control panel.
    We have completely removed and reinstalled both Firefox and Java.
    Thanks

    Hi iNerd
    Thanks for the link but neither of the two options that are discussed are presented to the user. Instead the user just gets the message 'We are unable to verify if Java is currently installed and enabled in your browser'. I know it is installed and enabled for general browser use as it all works fine in Safari. We would obviously just use Safari except the key site the user needs to link to works better with Firefox.

  • Clocks feature doesn't show the correct time

    It's 11:30 pm here in Tokyo. I have clocks set for Boston and San Francisco, but they are showing the time off by an hour.
    It's 10:30 am in Boston, right? But the clock says 9:30 am.
    I have DST turned off because Japan doesn't have DST. I tried it with DST turned on also, but that didn't help. If I have the correct time set here, the wrong time shows in the U.S.
    It's a world clock, but I think the algorithm is broken.
    doug

    Doug,
    This is genuinely comical. I had time to kill so I called back tonight with my case number. A lovely lady answered and confirmed that "William" had walked through all the steps. She was going to get a "product specialist" from Cupertino.
    It took five minutes but soon she was instant messaging to this product specialist, presumably in Cupertino, which is a mere 5 miles from me.
    His first suggestion was to do nothing - In October California would come off DST, then I could change my Nano G3 and everything would be right. I asked my friend to tell the "specialist" that his first suggestion was unacceptable. I can't believe Apple is selling a product that is purposely WRONG six months a year.
    His second suggestion was to take the Nano out of DST mode. Once again I asked my Bangalore friend to tell the Cupertino specialist all that did was make Singapore time correct and California time wrong. Also unacceptable.
    Finally he offered that this might be a known bug, might be getting corrected as we speak, and that maybe a software update will be available soon.
    I'm guessing this guy is a politician???
    Anyway, the bottom line is there's nothing 800-APL-CARE can do or will do. Our only option is to wait for the software update that might come and might fix the problem.
    Sorry, I don't know what else to try ...

  • Applet doesn't show image only if it is running on IE

    HI All,
    I'm developing an applet that show a table whre any single cell is composed by a Jlabel that contains an image and a text.
    So the applet working fine if I run it via eclipse viewer but when I create the HTML file addind the right archive contains all classes and folder image and run applet via IE only the text label is shown.
    Seems strange that I don't use a specific path for gettinng image file because I put the image folder inside the classes folder and the reference to the image file is absolute to the folder "image/xxx.png".
    Could anybody help me or have some suggestion to solve this behaviour?
    Thanks in advance & best regards,
    Valerio

    You appear to have more than one profile already. Maybe these will turn out to belong to other users, or you have used Reset Firefox.
    When looking for Firefox and trying to kill it with task manager, also look for plugincontainer that could also be running.
    You have not said what your OS is. Possibly an upgrade is trying to complete and failing,no doubt it is possible to kill that but I am not sure how. (IIRC someone recently posted about how to do that in Windows 7 but I can not find that post, at present, and I do not know what your OS is)
    Deleting ''profile.ini'' will create a new profile ,but a better alternatives may be
    * use ResetFirefox option (I only recommend that to novices)
    * create a new profile, (keep both the old and the new one) troubleshoot by starting the new one see
    **http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#Creating_a_new_profile (check it has no extensions or plugins enabled)

  • Applet doesn't show .png images

    Our applet loads images correctly but not always shows them.
    They are all inserted in JLabels.

    Hi,
    the problem with your approach is that ImageIcon accepts virtually everything, so "new ImageIcon("nowhere");" does not raise an exception.
    Now, first thing to do is check whether your images are located correctly. Try this for starters:
    final URL url = new URL(getCodeBase(), "90_LOGO_06.png" );
    try {
          final InputStream inStream = url.openStream();
          System.out.println("Image loaded");
    } catch (IOException e) {
          System.err.println("Image could not be loaded");
          e.printStackTrace();
    }If an exception is raised somethings wrong with your image location.

    Nautilus uses Totem and Gstreamer codecs to show video thumbs. Maybe a reinstall would solve the problem. Actually, I have no idea other then this.

  • Nm-applet doesn't work

    Hello.
    When I boot my computer and start up Fluxbox, nm-applet doesn't show up in the tray area. It's running, but doesn't show up and doesn't connect me automatically (which it was set to do last time I saw it). If I try to kill it and start it manually via the terminal, I get this:
    [jmy@x110 ~]$ nm-applet --sm-disable
    ** (nm-applet:1549): WARNING **: get_all_cb: couldn't retrieve system settings properties: (2) The name org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerSystemSettings was not provided by any .service files.
    ** (nm-applet:1549): WARNING **: fetch_connections_done: error fetching system connections: (2) The name org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerSystemSettings was not provided by any .service files.
    Now, most people with this problem seem to have their rc.conf daemons set up wrong, but I'm fairly certain this should work:
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng !network !netfs dbus hal networkmanager crond sensors alsa)
    What am I missing here? I don't want to have to connect manually every time I start up my computer.

    I still have this problem. Can anyone help me?
    If it's to any help, it works just fine when I run xfce4 (except it doesn't show in the tray, but w/e) instead of fluxbox, for some reason, so I guess there's something that needs to run which doesn't in fluxbox. But I dunno
    EDIT: nvm. Got it working. I was using this fix: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=63576 while trying the ck-launch-session stuff mentioned above and in other threads. Restored the original configuration files, and voila!

  • GNOME 3.4, no weather in clock applet

    So, I've done a full system upgrade yesterday, now running GNOME 3.4.
    The weather icon, that is usually seen on the left of the clock applet is gone. I have my location specified as before, but I can't make it home by clicking a well-known Home button in collapsed Locations list. Btw there's an entry in that list for the location I selected, and the weather icon is there too, on the left from the time. If I place mouse cursor on it it even shows a tooltip with some details. It just won't show up on the panel.
    Any ideas? Is this only something that I have a problem with?

    Solved! But how
    udisks/udisks2 requires CONFIG_SWAP to be enabled in the kernel!
    I can't imagine why this kernel option is required by udisks now. Personally I can't see any obvious reason, there is no sense.
    I will try to contact the developers. Because I can't imagine why SWAP is required.

  • Gnome Weather near the date/time in panel doesn't show up.

    I have an internet connection (fully working).
    I selected my location. (right click on date/time applet -> preferences -> locations -> add) it found my location and it filled in all the other info.
    Show weather and temperature are selected in the first tab of the preferences also.
    Edit: I just tried adding the gnome weather applet (not part of the date/time) and everything works. Seems to be a problem with the date/time applet.

    Same problem here, installed today.

  • My weather app doesn't show the feels like temp or wind, etc.  How can I fix this?  I am running iOS 8.1.2

    My weather app doesn't show the feels like temp or wind, etc.  How can I fix this?  I am running iOS 8.1.2.

    is that really what it is?  this is the native iphone weather app.  the funny part is that when i use the actual weather channel app, it does provide it.
    is this an api issue with the weather channel and the iphone then?  i guess there's no fix?
    thanks for your help by the way.

  • Does anyone know how to get the notification screen in iOS 7 to show the weather?  Not showing on my phone, and the weather app doesn't show in the notification dialog.

    I am not seeing the weather in the notifications for 'today'.  The weather app doesn't show up in the notifications dialog either.  What to do?

    First make sure that Weather is listed in Notification Center, mine is a the very end of the list. If it's not go below to the Do Not Include list and see if it's there. If it is manually turn it on to appear in the main list.
    Now when I swipe down from the home screen I get the date and any Today events, and below that a weather forecast stating the high and low for the day. If none of that is showing try shutting down and restarting your phone and see if that appears also make sure the Weather app is on one of your home screens, launch it from there and that alone may set everything up.
    The weather app is just not listed.  I did a soft reset, no improvement.  I'm at a loss for anything else to try.  Since the app is a system app, I can't delete and reload it.
    This is hardly an earthshattering problem, but it bugs me.
