Gnome crashes on Open File when starting - infinite crashes

I found some material the other day on the forum and I can't find it again. Maybe someone can give me an idea for a search term.
This happened immediately when I updated Gnome to 2.26 (I hadn't been using it for several weeks). After the update Gnome started and Bug Buddy appeared. When I canceled Bug Buddy, the Open File crashed again and Bug Buddy reappeared. Over and Over. I could run System Monitor but I couldn't see what to do to stop things. If I killed Open File and Bug Buddy they just came right back XFCE starts and runs fine as does Blackbox. I thought maybe a subsequent update would contain the fix, but not so far. So if anyone can put me onto the solution i would appreciate it. thanks.

Sure. Simply launch your System Preferences application and select the Accounts pane. Press the Login Items tab and the + symbol beneath the window to add iCal as a login item. Check the Hide box if you don't want iCal to be visible each time you start up or log in.

Getting log file when starting J2EE 1.4 Application Server

I get a log file when starting up the Application Server. I am just a beginner.

What do you mean by you get a log file when starting up the AppServer? There is always a log file present. There should not be a new log file created every time you start the server. Look under <install directory>/domains/domain1/logs for the server log file.

[CS3 Win]It is possible read an ini file when starting InDesing and hide some menus?

Hi all.
My plugin reads a ini file to configurate the main menu.
It is possible read this file when starting InDesing and hide some submenus created in Myplugin.fr?
I have no problem to hide/show a menu, but I don´t know what is the first event that runs after loading my plugin.
Is there other possible way to do this?

Have you tried implementing a startup/shutdown service provider (IID_IAPPSTARTUPSHUTDOWN)? If it's too late to hide the menu, then an IMenuFilter/IActionFilter should do the job for you to hide menu. Or you can dynamically build the menu on the fly too (see dynamicmenu sample from SDK)

Illustrator CS6 Stops working in Windows 7 when Opening file or Starting new project

Just installed CS6 (legal copy with serial number) on Windows 7 (64bit) computer. Photoshop seems to work fine. Illustrator opens, but when I try to open an existing file or start a new file windows says the program has stopped working. I've already removed every Adobe product I could find on the computer and reinstalled. I also tried deleting the AppsData\Roaming\Adobe\AdobeIllustrator\en_US folder.

Try checking for permissions on these folders one by one: C:\Users\Current_User\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CSx Settings

Adobe Illustrator CSx Settings
Permissions on above folders should be R & W.
If these settings are fine then check for permissions on these folders at location: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CSx\Presets\

This might help. Since, it works for you using different user account then it is definitely a user permissions issue.

Photoshop enlarges all open files when I magnify a file. How can i get it to only magnify one file

When I use the magnifying glass to enlarge my file in photoshop cs3, all of my open files magnify at the same time. I only want one of them to enlarge. This started happening when I bought a new Macbook pro and installed OSX10.6.5. Does anyone know how I can fix it so only the file I am working on enlarges? sometimes I want to compare a smaller file to a larger file and I can no longer do that in Photoshop.

There is an option on the Zoom tool to "Zoom All Windows". This is just a check mark in the tool options bar, next to the "Resize Windows To Fit" option, directly under the Menu bar. Simply deselect this option.

Visual Studio opening files when dragged and dropped in WPF app debugging session

I'm working on a WPF app (using VS2013 CE) which is intended to manage media files (TV Shows, movies, etc) and as part of this I am enabling the user to drag and drop media files on to the running app (by adding AllowDrop="True" and PreviewDragEnter="Window_PreviewDragEnter"
to my Window definition).
The problem I have is that when I drag files onto the app in a debugging session Visual Studio then opens the file(s) when I stop debugging... this is seriously annoying as when I am testing with large media files (> 1GB) it just locks up VS for minutes
at a time while it tries to open the file or files. When I run the app outside the debugger this does not happen - it's only when I'm in a VS debugging session. The only way I can stop this happening is to kill VS completely from Task Manager then restart
it - this is also very annoying but often I need to do this as it will freeze up for 5-10 minutes while it insists on loading the files in VS.
I understand the app, whilst debugging, is running in the context of VS but why does VS then have to try to open the files when debugging is finished? I have looked through the options but can't see anything to switch this off and no amount of searching
has turned up anything - can anyone put me out of my misery with a solution to this annoying issue?

Does Visual Studio behaves like the following image shows and just hangs when opening your media file?
Do you have any other computer which installs Visual Studio? Can you reproduce this on it?
In order to troubleshoot this issue I think we need to locate the root reason of your issue. The problem can related to the following:
1. Your project is corrupt and VS then trys to load that file when debug finished.
2. Your VS is corrupt and caused this problem.
So please do something below:
1. Try clean and rebuild your project.
2. Switch to some other PCs and use VS and your project there, check if the problem can be reproduced.
3. You can backup your VS setting and try some commands: devenv /resetsettings and devenv /resetuserdata

Error 'Unable to open file' when downloading SAP Query to Excel

Hi all
I'm running a SAP Query which is set to download straight to a spreadsheet (Pivot Table / Microsoft Excel). Intermittently it does not work - apparently at random (at least, I've can't recreate the error at will).
It does one of the following:
- Works ok, and creates the pivot table
- Gives an Excel error message 'Unable to open file', then returns to the 'save the data in a spreadsheet' popup when enter is pressed on the error.
- Does not issue error message, just goes to the 'save the data in a spreadsheet' popup.
In the last two cases, the excel pivot table sheet is not created.
Has anyone seen anything similar, or have any idea as to what is causing the problem?
Any help gratefully received!
Not urgent as I've found a way round - further testing seems to show that I don't get the error is Excel is already open - but in the past I've run many SAP query downloads without needing to open Excel first. I suppose it's possible that this is just something to do with the Excel setup at the user site

Ensure that file name with same name and in same path should not be open while saving the data.

Fix found: Illustrator CS3 (PC) crashes when opening file or starting new file

Issue:
-Running Windows XP, tried installing CS3 Web premium on a new machine.
-All programs worked well except Illustrator; when opening a file or creating a new one, illustrator would crash and give a message of "Microsoft has experienced an error" blah blah "Send error report?"
-when trying to "open with.." by right clicking on a file, it would crash as well but give the message "The file xxxxxx.pdf is not a valid Win 32 application." Blah blah. Same thing with .ai files, etc.
Attempts to fix:
-re-installed CS3
-updated Illustrator to 13.0.1
-switched users
-cleaned up fonts
Fix that worked:
-uninstalled pre-loaded version of Acrobat that came with PC. I had a suspicion that the newer version of Acrobat on the new PC (9.5 or similar) might conflict with Illustrator, as the version of Acrobat to come with CS3 was 8 (I believe). This seemed to fix the problem.

Cannot find file when starting jnlp from browser

First of all, im not a web guru, so sorry for my weak knowledge on that part.
I have a swing application packed in a war file.
In the root of war file i put my jnlp, html that links to jnlp, and jar file. (everything created with NetBeans)
But there is also a directory "data" inside war where i hold some files.
My application is accessing those files at runtime. (those are save files for my game)
So, when i start jnlp directly everything is fine, but when i start jnlp through html link, i got error message:
SEVERE: null
java.io.FileNotFoundException: data\options.data (The system cannot find the path specified)
     at java.io.FileInputStream.open(Native Method)
     at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source)
     at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source)
        ...Java Web Start starts correctly, i can see my first panel of the application, but when i proceed (application tries to load save file), it can not find that file (options.data) obviously.
How is it possible that everything works fine when i start jnlp directly, and it fails when i start it through the browser?
What is the problem here?

Of course the JRE is not going to find a data\options.data on my PC, which is where it will look for it, if your software is running on my PC. Resources for JWS projects must either be available as an URL from the server, or downloaded locally to the user's local file system before they can be used as files. Why it fails to find it on your PC is probably that the 'root path' (the default directory at time of invocation) that is prefixed to data\options.data is different between running it off the local file system, and running from HTML. To say for sure, I would need a lot more information on how you are launching it when 'running locally'.
A major question here is, does the software merely read the data in options.data, or does it actually need to update (i.e. write to) the options.data?

"Error 7 occurred at Open File +.vi:Open File" when opening a newly built application

Hello,
After successfully building a standalone application in LabView 7.1, I get this error when I try to run my .exe file. I don't think any files are supposed to open upon execution except for my top level VI, which appears to open just fine, so I'm unsure why this error pops up. Does anyone have any ideas that might help or has anyone run into this error before?

I have a similar problem. I created a stand alone application using Labview 8.2. I run a vi to test some electronics and send the results to an Excel spread sheet. I use Labview's New Report vi and I give the location of the spread sheet as one of its inputs. In runs OK on my laptop (windows XP) but when I make it a stand alone application and run it on another PC (Windows 2000) I get an "error 7 at Excel_Open.vi" that shows an extra path in the directory.
See attached vi -- assuming it stays with this note.
How do I fix this?

How to fix forgetting previously opened tabs when starting Firefox by clicking on a link in an external application?

Hello, I have the option Startup: "Show my windows and tabs from last time" enabled. Works fine, except when Firefox starts when I click a link in an external application (typically Thunderbird). Then, the new link gets opened in a new tab, Firefox remembers the number of tabs I had opened when I last closed it, but all the "old" tabs are blank. Can I somehow fix this behavior?
Disabling add-ons does not help. Clicking on a link in an external application when Firefox is already opened works OK. I have been using Firefox for quite a short time now (probably half a year) and this problem was always there (i.e. it is not due to a new update).

If Firefox is closed and an external link opens Firefox, you need to go to History > Recently Closed Tabs and open those tabs before closing Firefox. If you don't the "previous session" will be gone and only the one page that the external program opened will be the new "previous session".
If that isn't satisfactory, you'll need to install a "session manager" type extension to remember more than "the last session" only.

Unable to download or open files when using firefox in private. Only able to do so in public mode. How do I fix this?

When browsing in private mode, I am unable to download any kind of files. Either from CNET or just a plain flash, the download function doesn't happen. Even if I right click and save as, nothing happens. I have to go back into normal mode to get the job done. It wasn't like this before, so how do I fix it?

Problems opening files when jumping from Lightroom 3

Hello,
I've been editing exclusively with LR3 since I switched over to Mac from PC a few months ago. I finally got around to buying and installing PSE 9 for Mac today and set it up as an external editor in Lightroom. However, when I try to jump from LR to PSE, the file doesn't open. PSE opens, but no photo. When I close PSE and go back to Lightroom, there are additional copies of the file there, suggesting that the file did in fact go over to PSE, but I couldn't see it.
Any tips on what I might be doing wrong or what I should try? I'd appreciate the help.

This may be a Mac problem as some users on 10.6.4 have experienced erratic behavior with the PSE9 Editor. There are definitely bugs with OS6 and some Mac users have even switched back to OS5.
The problem seems to disappear if both Organizer and Editor are in the dock. You may have no need of Organizer if you use Lightroom but it’s worth a try to see if you experience any change in behavior.
Use Finder to locate the Organizer application and place it in the dock along with the Editor.
The usual sequence from Lightroom after selecting a raw photo in the Library is:
Cmd+E (select edit with light room settings and choose 8 bit tiff or PSD)
Edit Image in PSE9
Cmd+S (to save and click OK to overwrite the file created by Lightroom)
Cmd+W to close in PSE9
Return to Lightroom to view your edit.
PSE9 has limited support for large 16 bit files and you can’t use layers which is why I recommend selecting 8 bit.

Can't open files when a particular user has saved them

We have one user whose Pages files nobody else can open, edit or copy when he saves them to our server. Somehow the files are not inheriting the correct permissions.
Any ideas?

Not password protected. I am the administrator. I use a sledge hammer to fix the problem at the moment, which is to propagate the correct permissions from the folder above on the server each time it happens.
The user/permissions setup on the server is correct as far as I can tell. He has a Standard user account and belongs to all Groups.
The only difference I can tell is that he's on an Intel-based computer (whereas the rest of us on PowerPCs), although that could be a red herring.
