Gnome doesnt start automatically

Hi,
I ve followed all the steps that described in the beginners guide, but still cannot make it to have gnome at once.
Although i am able to login at gdm, what i am getting next is an x-session with 3 terminal windows.
If i want to have gnome i have to write exec gnome-session.
Is there any way to have gnome desktop without the need to write all the time exec gnome-session.
P.S I ve copied the /skel/.xinitrc to my /home directory and added exec dbus-launch gnome-session to it.
I still can not figure out what i am doing wrong.....
Please give me a hint cause if i cannot start the desktop i will be dissapointed.

Yea. Based on your first post:
x-tra wrote:Although i am able to login at gdm, what i am getting next is an x-session with 3 terminal windows.
it seemed to me that you were successfully getting to GDM login but just were not getting to your gnome session, so that's why I didn't go into great detail about setting up GDM and just suggested using a different init file (~/.gnomerc in this case).
But, basically, you were choosing the wrong session at GDM, and once you selected Gnome, you were good to go, is that correct?
Anyway, back to dbus-launch ... any background on why you chose this methodology over putting dbus in the rc.conf daemons? I'm not criticizing, I've just not seen it done this way, so I thought you could provide some insight into your choice.
it doesnt make any difference its just another way to load dbus and having some options for the gnome-session.
Your solution is much easier so i stick with that.

  • Cluster and ASM services doesnt start automatically

    Hi,
    I have configured a 2 node 10g RAC environment (rac, rac2) in RHEL 4 through vmware.
    However the cluster services and ASM services do not come up automatically after server reboot. I have to manually bring it up using ./srvctl command.
    [root@rac2 bin]# ./crs_stat -t
    Name          Type     Target     State     Host
    ora....SM1.asm     application     ONLINE     UNKNOWN     rac
    ora....AC.lsnr     application     ONLINE     UNKNOWN     rac
    ora.rac.gsd     application     ONLINE     UNKNOWN     rac
    ora.rac.ons     application     ONLINE     UNKNOWN     rac
    ora.rac.vip     application     ONLINE     ONLINE     rac
    [email protected]     application     ONLINE     UNKNOWN rac2

    ora.rac2.ons     application     ONLINE     UNKNOWN     rac2
    ora.rac2.vip     application     ONLINE     ONLINE     rac2
    Could someone please guide me as to how these services can be brought up automatically upon every reboot?

    Normally all services will start automatically, I am not sure how you installed and configured your RAC.
    Here i am giving all options.
    Option1:-
    Re: CRS auto-start
    Option2:-
    See the below links.
    http://jaffardba.blogspot.com/2009/03/how-to-startup-rac-database-services.html
    http://www.dannorris.com/2009/03/12/start-database-services-automatically-after-instance-startup/
    Option3:-
    if you simply want to start the service upon server reboot, put srvctl
    command in rc.local script under /etc directory.
    Hope this solves your issue.

  • Reports engine doesnt start automatically

    Hello,
    I install weblogic 10.3.3 with forms&reports 11.1.1.3 and I have the following issue.
    When the weblogic starts, the reports engine (RWENG) doesn't star automatically to print the reports. To be able to print the first report I need to manually open the "/reports/rwservlet/showjobs?jobname" site or press the "start in-process button".
    I already tried to define the" minEngine=1, initEngine=1 and maxEngine=5" but the issue persists.
    Can anyone help me out? How can I start the reports engine automatically, so I dont need to open the URL or press the button every time the weblogic starts?
    Thank you.

    There is a fact, that GNOME starts successfully from another user (root). So the problem could be in user settings or some unclosed sessions. Do not know what to do from logs
    Thanks in advance!

    Ok. I solved this for my issues.
    The solution was found on the ubuntu forum:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1082257
    What I've done is:
    mv /myuser/.gconfd/saved_state /myuser/.gconfd/saved_state_backup
    Then I had a completely recovered GNOME session on a next boot.
    Moreover, it seems for me that saved_state could be completely removed in this case.
    I'm going to go try that and see if it works

  • Km Index does not Start Automatically

    Hi:
    I created an Index with one data source ( FSDB Repository ). In the TREX Monitor I edit the Queue Parameters:
    Schedule type: Both
    Schedule Time: All-0:01 ( Every minute ).
    I have added documents manually to the repository and the index started autimatically each minute. Everything was working fine, but now the Index doesnt Start automatically, I have to flush it or do an incremental update if I want the documents quickly visible in the search. I haven´t make any changes in the queue parameters.
    Please help,
    Thanks,
    Luciana

    I have to same problem: Bought Elgato Sat 3 years ago. Now I decided to install it in the living room and bought a new i5 Mac mini. EyeTV works fine but does not wake up Mountain Lion 10.8.2 sometimes.
    When I program wake up events manually via System Preferences or pmset command in the terminal, all works fine and my Mac wakes up. I tried everything, from clean reinstall to debugging AutoWake.plist and such.
    Annoying!

  • Panel does not start automatically in Gnome 2.24.3

    Since Gnome 2.24.3, the Gnome Panel does not start automatically.
    I had to manualy add it to the startup group via "Sessions" in order to force it to start when login finishes.
    Does anybody has the same behavior?
    Should I report it as a bug?

    That may be true but it is a real pain since when it happens the only way to recover is to terminate all of the iTunes modules with task manager and start it manually. It also leaves the IPOD in a state that says do not disconnect. You can disconnect since nothing is really happening but there is no excuse for this not to start much faster. When you have multiple users it is a real pain. It ought to be able to either end when finished or better yet allow multiple users simultaneously updating from different libraries.
    I guess i will just have to get in the habit of treating it as a single user and start and stop it every time I need it and be suer not to let it run. Not nice because that means waiting for larger Podcast downloads instead of having there ready for me when I sign on my computer.

    These are usually the features of a faulty battery. Restore iPhone Firmware with iTunes 10.7 or 11 on computer. See if better. If not, and there is Warranty or AppleCare make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution. If no Coverage, still make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple Store for free quick (minutes time) battery diagnostic testing.

    Ok, compilation successful with the above patch applied. I also rebooted to make sure everything will get loaded for scratch and applied export CLUTTER_VBLANK=none in /etc/environment. So far:
    1) Fonts are looking just fine, no artifacts whatsoever in the panel or elsewhere I got so far.
    2) Applications menu still crash.
    3) GTK2 applications also crash. I opened up leafpad, it run, but failed to open a file and crashed the entired desktop. I have no oxygen-gtk installed on my system.
    Generally speaking I like GNOME 3 quite much, not as much as GNOME 2, but crashing the whole desktop by just one application or just something less importand like the menu, its just a show stopper. I hope they will somehow fix these issues in the next releases.

    Hai,
    Just a tought...:-|
    Check the value in your file, is it typing mistake or you have entered the same in your file.
    <start-up mode="always"/> it should be <start-up mode="always">.

  • Numlockx will not start automatically no matter what

    First off, I am running Archlinux 64 and I have setup numlockx many times without any problems. This time however I cannot get it to start automatically when I startx. I have it listed in my ~/.xinitrc before my desktop enviroment;
    #!/bin/sh
    # ~/.xinitrc
    # Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)
    # exec xterm
    xscreensaver -no-splash &
    numlockx &
    # exec startxfce4
    exec openbox-session
    # ... or any other WM of your choosing ...
    I even tried putting it in my ~/.config/openbox/autostart.sh file:
    ## Run the system-wide support stuff
    #.$GLOBALAUTOSTART
    (sleep 2 && nitrogen --restore) &
    # Programsms that will run after Openbox has started
    (sleep 2 && tint) &
    (sleep 2 && conky) &
    (sleep 2 && DISPLAY=:0.1 openbox) &
    (sleep 2 && gnome-settings-daemon) &
    (sleep 2 && numlockx) &
    (sleep 4 && amixer sset Front 90% unmute && espeak -ven -s145 "Welcome Master. I am here to serve you. It is `date +%H` `date +%M`.") &
    If I run it manually, it works perfectly.
    Any ideals?
    Thanks
    BTW Everything else autostarts just fine.

  • The kde can't start automatically

    I had been using GNOME and initscripts.
    and transit to systemd and KDE recently.
    after "systemctl enable kde.service" and reoot, I got the console shell, but not kde, of cause, I can login with console, and "systemctl start kde" to start KDE,
    but why the KDE can't start automatically?
    I have checked the log, but got nothing.

    you should have got an error somewhere when enabling "kde.service," because that service doesn't exist. KDE's login manager is kdm. you should do
    systemctl enable kdm.service
    instead. to start the service immediately, type (after the above):
    systemctl start kdm.service
    and you should get KDE's login manager.

  • Just got an iphone but mail doesnt collect automatically - push or fetch??

    I have just started using my new iphone but noticed that the mail doesnt collect automatically. I have successfully setup up my hotmail plus account and if I click on mail it will search and update new mail but I was under the impression that it would frequently search for mail without me having to do that using the 3G technology by accessing my email server? I am currently set to "push" data should I be fetching instead?

    Push email account access is supported with an Exchange account, a MobileMe account, and with a Yahoo account when using the Yahoo account preset when creating the account with the iPhone's mail client.

  • My Imac doesnt start after de pasword, It continuos asking for it again and again, what can I do to start it?

    My Imac doesnt start after de pasword, It continuos asking for it again and again, what can I do to start it?

    First, make sure caps lock is not on.
    Another reason why your password might not be recognized is that the keyboard layout (input source) has been switched without your realizing it. At the login screen, you can cycle through the available layouts by pressing the key combination   command-space or command-option-space. See this support article.
    If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
    Otherwise*, start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities window appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar at the top of the screen—not from any of the items in the OS X Utilities window.
    In the window that opens, type this:
    res
    Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
    Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
    Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
    You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
    *Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.
