Gnome-keyboard-shortcut issue

Hi,
I've configured keyboard shortcuts in gnome-keyboard-shortcuts to launch firefox, evolution. They work fine when i configure them, however after a xorg restart they act wierd.... I have to press the button several time before it opens..
for example, i press the firefox key.. and start doing ps -ef | grep firefox but nothing...
after pressing the button 4 times (interval of 10 seconds in between) firefox finally opens.
same deal with evolution and rhythmbox.
its not that my system is slow because if i click on the icon it opens up in 1 second.
I just dont know how i should diagnose this. Thanks for the help

same issue here for another user in ubuntu

  • [IDCS3] Keyboard Shortcut Issues

InDesign CS3 + WinXP SP3...fully updated on both
Have gone to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts... to verify that I am using the Default set of shortcuts.
I want to use Ctrl+Alt+C to do Fitting: Fit Frame to Content, but for some odd reason I get no response at all from ID.
I have an ATI video card that at one point used that same shortcut to bring up Catalyst Control Center, but I have turned off that ability in CCC.
Is there anyway to see what is bound to this shortcut and restore it back in ID?

Easier than Ken's suggestion is simply to pick something in Edit Keyboard Shortcuts at random and try to apply Ctrl+Alt+C. If there is a conflict, ID will tell you where it is. But that misses the point anyhow if the conflict is from outside of InDesign which it could well be.
I would suggest that you don't use the default shortcuts. Make your own set even if you haven't yet made any customizations. It will encourage you to take advantage of the feature. Besides, sometimes just flipping between sets will jar things loose and get them working again.
And if you have a custom set you can try a couple of tests, like assigning something else to Fit Frame, and assigning Ctrl+Alt+C to something else to see if the shortcut will work there.

  • I'm having CS2 Keyboard shortcuts issues

    Hi,
I have recently installed Photoshop CS2 on my computer. I have had it on my previous laptop and had created tons of shortcuts for my workflow. When I installed the new version, none of the shortcuts or F-keys would work. (i.e. F2 would put me in Quick Mask mode instead of playing my Flatten action) I had talked to our computer guy about it and he said that Photoshop recognized my keyboard as German (which is not the case, it is English). I have tried resetting the prefs. in Photoshop but that has not helped. I am mainly trying to get my Wacom Intuos pen buttons for increasing/decreasing the brush size. Any help on this topic is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • Loosing ability to use keyboard shortcuts under Gnome

    Hi,
I widely use lot of gnome keyboard shortcuts(mainly move on another desktop and so on) but time to time(often after I close last window on desktop, btw by ALT + F4) it "looses focus" and I have to click by mouse or touchpad to be able inser keyboard shortcut again.
    It is anoying. Any solution?

Disabling the autostart of gnome-settings-daemon in the sessions dialog, and then manually starting it doesn't works too. But if I start it, kill it, and start again it works!

  • Ctrl and fn keyboard shortcuts don't work after update

After I updated today (list of updated packages below), all gnome keyboard shortcuts that use the ctrl or fn key stopped working completely. What could cause this? I've never had any problems with these keys in linux before and they all work out of the box, today is the first time I've had any issue.

  • Gnome 3 - command for shutdown dialog (need for keyboard shortcut)

I'd like to create a keyboard shortcut for shutdown dialog; it's the dialog that appears when press your username (top-right corner) and then select "Shut down..." option. There was "gnome-session-save --shutdown-dialog" or something similar in Gnome 2 (or so it seems by reading forum posts), but the same command doesn't exist in Gnome 3.
I'm not rebooting or shutting down my OS a lot, but when I do, I'm automatically trying to press some keyboard shortcut.

I started digging around more and found this option in System Settings/Power: "When the power button is pressed: Ask me". But, it doesn't work for me, because OS doesn't detect power button on my thinkpad. So it seems that I have to install acpid, but I still need to know the command for Gnome's shutdown dialog.
    EDIT:

  • Keyboard shortcuts problem issue after updating to 6.0.5

Directly after installing this update, Command+SpaceBar on the Mac no  longer temporarily selects the zoom tool?  Not sure what others keyboard  shortcuts might be broken, but this is a very standard one.  I have a book due on Monday!!!  Any help  would be appreciated?  Thanks!
Not sure if related, but my computer started lagging and freezing  directly after installing this update, and continues to the next day,  even after repairing permissions, trashing prefernces, trashing SavedData cache, etc.

That totally fixed the shortcut issue!! Fixed in InDesign and Illustrator.   Will keep you posted on the computer lagging and freezing issue.  Our IT guy thinks it may have something to do the Adobe Updater itself.  But we'll see....  thanks so much!

  • Keyboard shortcut/workflow issues

Just wondering if anybody was having this problem or could maybe say what I'm doing wrong.
    1. One of the keyboard shortcuts says: "discard last take and return to start position" which for me is cmd+period (.) . One time it did this, but now it just returns me to the starting position without discarding anything. Am I doing something wrong?
    2. Is there a way to pre-roll playback? I was pro-toolin' it the other day and it suddenly dawned on me that I don't think Logic can do this...
    3. I have a keyboard short cut that used to toggle the crossfade tool. After one of the updates a while back, it no longer toggles, but rather turns the crossfade tool on, but not off if I hit the short cut again.
    Any help?

Many people having many issues with keyboard shortcuts... I have experienced all the issues and tried to get help at Genius Bar and AppleCare, but they don't know how to fix it. I hoped it would be fixed with iOS 8.1.1 and OS 10.10.1 but it's not...
It's a syncing issue with iCloud "Dictionaries" which is a hidden folder in the iCloud Drive folder. If you're a dev or comfortable using Terminal, the following command will place a "real iCloud drive" folder on your desktop which will allow you to see ALL the items in iCloud Drive. Inside this folder is the folder called "Settings" and then "Dictionaries". You can then see other nested folders from each device ID (Macs, iOS) that write to iCloud.
This is not a fix but here's the steps to view those:
    1) In terminal:
    ln -s ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/ ~/Desktop/Real\ iCloud\ Drive
    2) You will now have an alias on your desktop to the iCloud Folder (you must choose to view it in a Finder window as list view)
Drill down until you find a file with the extension .cdt
    3) Duplicate that file onto your desktop and CHANGE the extension to .zip and unzip it.
    4) ADD the extension .plist to the end of the UNIX file that was unzipped and then you can view it in text edit app and see the shortcuts info.
Again, not fixing anything, but trying to narrow it down and hope that some developer/programmer out there with better knowledge than mine can help!
Just a reminder to everyone to report the issue to Apple and go to Genius Bar if you have the time and call Apple Support:

  • On keyboard shortcuts [gnome] I get an error saying..

Unable to find any keyboard themes.  This means your GTK+ installation has been incompletely installed.
any ideas? [i can't get gnome-extras because there is one package missing]
and I don't believe that keyboards shortcuts are in extras

Ok. I searched with google and browsed some gnome docs etc. It seems that the problem is related with gtk/gnome and gtkrc config file. For some reason /opt/gnome/bin/gnome-keybinding-properties cannot find default config which is in /opt/gnome/share/themes/Default/gtk-2.0-key (alternative is in .../themes/Emacs/...). This is what should be available for chosing in the "text editing shortcuts" in the preferences. The config tool works without this (the list is just empty) but obviously something is not configured or this is a bug (not sure if this is arch linux or gtk/gnome bug). There is very little or almost none info on the web about this problem. The best I could find is: http://lists.debian.org/debian-gtk-gnom … 00397.html and http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] … 07702.html
    EDIT: 2 hours later :-)
You can get rid of the error message by copying /opt/gnome/share/themes/Default and /opt/gnome/share/themes/Emacs to /usr/share/themes/...
    I have checked that:
    pacman -Qo /opt/gnome/share/themes/Default/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
    /opt/gnome/share/themes/Default/gtk-2.0/gtkrc is owned by gtk2 2.4.0-1
So gtk2 places these files in /opt/gnome but looks for them in /usr.
And this is from gtk2's PKGBUILD file:
    build() {
    ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var
    --datadir=/opt/gnome/share --with-xinput=yes
This is strange and frankly now I don't know what to do with it :-) exept for manually moving these files to /usr/share. Perhaps someone could contiune this little "investigation" and solve or report it where necessary...

  • Gnome-shell keyboard shortcuts do not work with only conky running

This is best described by a video showing the bug. You can see the video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZWdExRxq-I.
    Description
The gnome-shell keyboard shortcuts like Alt+F2,Alt+F1 and the media key shortcuts do not work if conky is the only program running. However if I open any other application like gedit or vlc or firefox or anything then the keyboard shortcuts work.
This is not a bug due to any upgrade or anything...I just installed arch linux 4-5 days before...and then installed conky 2 days. However I just noticed that the bug was due to conky. If conky is not running it all works perfectly...How do I solve this problem?
    Hope I provided sufficient information....

I'm having the same problem. I ended up putting
    gap_x 1595
in my conkyrc (1080p display) to force it back to the right side. Took a little bit of trial and error, but at least it works as it is supposed to and is placed where I want it.

  • Undo issues with Prem CC OSX- can't lock COMMAND-Z to undo feature in keyboard shortcuts

    Hello,
As per my described problem in heading, when I lock UNDO command to COMMAND-Z in Premiere CC, when I try to undo with the command my clips / edit on the timeline are shifting right.
If I use UNDO from the pull down menu, the functions performs as expected and my last action is undone.
The keyboard shortcut however will not work and only shifts my clips right.
Is there a fix for this please?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Bernard,
    >I have tried the trash preferences as I mentioned in my original post.
No, you mentioned "resetting prefs". I'm talking about manually trashing prefs.

  • Gnomes-hell shortcut workaround

Yesterday I installed cinnamon. Unfortinately I can't found a way to bind it with any DM except gdm. So I got a broken shortcuts with gnomes-hell. No way to switch keyboard layouts. Keyboard panel applet missing at all. When I trying to add him to panel, I getting the battery and the network applets added instead of keyboard layout. The default shortcut (Ctrl+Space) doesn't work.
I didn't look for solution because developers knows about this issue but does nothing to fix it since 3.6 was released. I think they are going to disable keyboard at all since they can't handle it.
But I need keyboard layout switcher so I've written a small script:
    #!/bin/bash
    LCUR=`setxkbmap -print | awk -F"+" '/xkb_symbols/ {print $2}'`
    L1="us"
    L2="<your language here>"
    if [[ $LCUR == $L1 ]]; then
    setxkbmap $L2
    /usr/bin/xset led named 'Scroll Lock'
    else
    setxkbmap $L1
    /usr/bin/xset -led named 'Scroll Lock'
    fi
May be it would be useful for someone else. Scroll Lock Led indicates non-us layout.
Currently I have this script binded to Ctrl+Space keys (as custom shortcut).
But I would like to bind it to Ctrl+Shift or Alt+Shift.
    Any suggestions are welcome.

I don’t think Cinnamon works very well unless you use it as a session. If you don’t want to use gdm, try lightdm: it’s fairly easy to set up, and supports user-switching.
I’ve been playing around with Cinnamon all weekend and have managed to get it to integrate with my systemd-user setup, though I had to create a target so it wouldn’t start all of my Openbox applications. I’ve set a custom keyboard layout with xkb, but like you, the keyboard layout indicator doesn’t seem to display (even though it’s apparently been added to the panel). It crashes occasionally when you modify keyboard shortcuts too.

  • Compiz keyboard shortcuts not working with Mate 1.6

I've managed to get compiz working with Mate 1.6. Running compiz replace changes the window manager. However, none of the keyboard shortcuts are working. Here's a list of all the things I have enabled in CCSM:
    Composite
    Gnome Compatibility
    OpenGL
    Viewport Switcher
    Window Decoration
    JPEG
    PNG
    SVG
    Text
    Compiz Library Toolbox
    Dbus
    Notification
    Regex Matching
    Workarounds
    Move Window
    Place Windows
    Resize Window
I first noticed that the keyboard shortcuts for switching workspaces weren't working (but I had moved a terminal to another workspace, and I saw it in the workspace switcher on my panel, so I know it exists). I tried enabling Expo, but whenever I would press the keyboard shortcut (Super+e) nothing would happen, except it would type 'e' in the CCSM search box. Then I tried to run a command using Alt+F2, which is enabled, but the run command dialog box wouldn't show up, which leads me to believe that somehow Compiz isn't picking up the keyboard shortcuts.

hanny wrote:I'm running into similar issues with Xfce 4.10. ALT+F2 is working for me, but no ALT+TAB, Super+e etc...Im using compiz-bzr from AUR.
I recently started using Cinnamon since they moved completely off of Gnome 3. It works beautifully. You should check it out. Best Desktop Environment right now imho.
