GNOME Odd Automatic Suspend After Idle and Key Press

So I have an odd issue with my automatic suspend. I am using Arch 64-bit with GNOME and gdm. Suspend works fine with the "systemctl suspend" command. When I set automatic suspend in the GNOME Control Center and let the alotted time pass and press any key on my keyboard my system immediately goes down for suspend. I press a key again and she wakes up. I have left my system overnight to automatically suspend to no avail.
I never had this problem with Ubuntu 13.04 or 13.10. I also do not have this problem with Windows 7. I know that the Arch Power Management page tells us not to have acpid with GNOME and I do not have acpid installed.

Maybe try disabling any screensavers (if any), just for testing.

The sound for keyboard press is effected by the volume adjustment for notifications, if you adjust volume and turn volume down this will effect the volume for key press. Uncheck the option under Settings > Sounds> Phone Ringtone that says "Use incoming call volume for notificarion" this way the notification volume will not be affected if you adjust volume on device.

Windows 8.1 automatically activating after installing product key from VAMT 3.1?

I use MAK keys (with the Count of 500 activations). I use the latest VAMT (3.1), and as soon as I "Install Product Key..." the target operating system will activate automatically without giving me the possibility to Proxy Activate and hence saving
the CID. Anybody knows if this has to do with Windows 8.1 or the VAMT 3.1 itself? In my eyes this makes VAMT useless, since I can't save the CID!!!!!!!
I just want to save the CID in the VAMT database already upon the first activation. I found some threads here on TechNet, but non of them seem to deal with the problem how to solve it within VAMT (or if there is some GPO to hinder the target OS go out to
the internet and activate automatically).

You open the following key:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform\Activation
Where you set "Manual" to "1". I remember this from Windows 7 installations, that if manual was set to "0", that if would activate automatically after 3 Days. However, The grace period in Windows 8/8.1 is somehow different, it will start complaining directly
if OS is not activated. Since the computers are domain-joined, I can roll out this regkey-entry using GPO Preferences without too much of a hassle.

Automatically log out idle and disconnected users

Hi,
Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain.
Im trying to have users that are connected with RDP to other servers and clients to automatically log out if there are idle og disconnected for more than 30 minutes. Im able to get it working if i use computer configuration, but I want this to work under
user configuration, so im not sure what I am doing wrong.
I have configured the following. Created a single GPO on the root of the domain, and put a desktop 7 client in this container. Then i have configured a GPO with the following settings: User Configuration>Policies>Administrative Templates>Windows
Components>Remote Desktop Services>Session Time Limits: Here I have enabled "Set time limit for disconncted sessions", "Set time limit for active but idle...." and "End session when time...."
If i check the GPO, under security filtering i have Authenticated Users, and they have read and apply, and it is linked to the correct OU.
If I now log in to my client and do a gpupdate /force log out and in again, I can see the GPO is not applied correct. The strange thing is that is named under Computer Settings> The following GPOs were not applied because they are filtered out.. here
is my GPO and reason is "Not applied (Empty). Under User settings there is no such GPO applied...
I thought that it should have been under user settings .... if i configure the GPO as a computer settings it works.... but should not this also work for users ?

It will come means, you will find the settings at the mentioned path. That's for terminal session can be applied on servers not necessarily only for Terminal servers.
Best practice is to add security group in the security filter. But yes if you have less number of users, you can add them directly.

Curve 9360 won't install apps! Just automatically reboots after 'installing' and hasn't done it..

Blackberry Curve 9360. New device received yesterday after water damage to my old one. I upgraded to the latest OS and AppWorld yesterday and everything has worked absolutely perfect. Except every time I try and install or upgrade an app it reaches the end of the installation bar then reboots itself and when I look after the reboot I find the upgrade or app hasn't been installed. It does this with every app I try and install. I've tried working on just Wi-Fi or Network and it makes no difference. Can anyone help? has anyone had this before? Incredibly frustrating considering I've just got a new one back!!!

[solved] Suspend to RAM and later to disk

Hello,
I am a new laptop owner (and new Archlinux user).
On its original operating system, my laptop has a feature which basically does:
1- suspend to RAM
2- after 1 hour in this suspend mode, it wakes up briefly and suspend to disk
I found many wiki pages about suspending either to disk or to RAM or even both, like https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Su … _Hibernate and that works fine with my laptop.
But none gave me a solution with this kind of behavior.
Note that this is different from "hybrid-sleep" which suspend to RAM and disk at the same time and use disk save in case the battery if emptied.
I see many benefits from what I look for:
- very fast suspend (on lid close for instance);
- if I re-open the lid within the hour, very quick restore;
- if I let the laptop as it is, I know it will automatically suspend to disk and thus I do not worry about battery usage;
- compared to hybrid-sleep, if I forget my laptop in sleep mode, the battery state will be about the same as when I stopped working, whereas hybrid-sleep needs a recharge.
So, do you know if it is possible to suspend to RAM and later to disk on Archlinux?
Any pointers on how to do so?

The following script is a Systemd sleep hook. It uses a RTC wake up event (rtcwake) to get out of suspend state and go to hibernate state. If the system leaves suspend state before the RTC event, the RTC wake is cancelled.
Save the following code in /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/suspend-sedation.sh, and make it executable.

First keystroke after idle has a slight delay

So when I don't touch the keyboard or trackpad for about 5 seconds the first keystroke I make is delayed for about .5 secs which is annoying when recording in Ableton with the MacBook keyboard or when gaming. After the initial key press everything works fine until I don't touch the machine for 5 seconds again.
I'm on the 2012 i7 quad core MacBook so performance isn't the issue. I'm guessing this is some power management thing?

Hi! I have a similar trouble on my Macbook Air mid 2011! The first keystroke is ignored (as if my keyboad has fallen asleep)... Any ideas?

Missed Key Press

I first noticed missed key press after installing and later removing Bootcamp.
After several months of missing key presses, I uninstalled Internet Explore.
The missed key presses were gone (unnoticed) for more than a week and then they started intermittently.
After the Bootcamp removal and before the Internet Explore removal, I would notice the cursor flash about 10 times and stop. Then the next key press would miss.
After Internet Explore removal, I have not seen the cursor stop, but I still get missed key presses. I tested it just now, counted 100 cursor flashes and the next key press missed. Repeated 100 count again and key press okay.
Summary:
Missed Key Press:
iMac 17", OS 10.5.8
After Bootcamp uninstall, missed key press after 7-10 cursor flashes always.
After IE removal, missed key presses seemingly random.
I seen old posts (2006 - 2009) about missed key press which were archived without answers.
Any help would be appreciated.

Capslock blinking twice and then repeating is a diagnostic error message that means that the BIOS is corrupt.
Try a hard reset as follows:
1) Remove the battery and unplug the DC power adapter.
2) Press and hold the power button for more than fifteen seconds.
3) Plug in the DC power adapter (leave the battery out for now)
4) Press the power button

Auto suspend on idle without Gnome or KDE? [SOLVED]

This may be a stupid question but I've never had to actually mess with this before on a system without Gnome or KDE installed (they have their own utilities which tends to make this easy) and I've spent an hour researching to no avail.
I'm looking for a way to force the entire computer to automatically suspend to RAM after 30 minutes of no keyboard or mouse activity. I already have pm-utils and xscreensaver installed and 'pm-suspend' already works great when I call it manually but what I'm missing is a way to detect the idle and actually call 'pm-suspend' automatically. I do have HAL and udev. Of course it runs X too but there is no D.E. installed. Only various Window managers.
BTW- this is for a Desktop not a laptop if that is significant for some reason. The reason for it is basically I want this computer to suspend (to save power) at night and other times when it's not being used.

I've been attempting to use xfce4-power-manager but am having an issue where as a normal user actual power management options other than for the monitor are disabled. It works fine as root but not as a normal user.
User is a member of the power group.
Have consolekit installed.
Launching WM from .xinitrc (No Display manager such as slim) using 'exec ck-launch-session /usr/local/bin/wm'
Anything I am missing for why this wouldn't work?

Automatically suspend when all users are idle

Hello,
I have not been able to find a way of checking if *all* users on the system are idle, and then suspending if they've been idle for a certain amount of time. Of course individual users might have the ability to set up sleep if they want, but I was looking for a way to set this up as the root user on the machine.
Can anyone recommend a way to do this?

Welcome to the forums.
It all depends on your definition of idle.
For me it means that there is no user input from the keyboard and no movement of the mouse for a certain time. Therefore i use xautolock for suspending the system when it is idle using this command:
xautolock -time 20 -corners -000 -detectsleep -locker "systemctl suspend"
The corners argument provides a quick way to inhibit the automatic suspend by moving the mouse into the left upper corner. Time is in minutes.
On a home server a script checking for connected users is suited better:

Gnome-power-manager 2.26 does not suspend on idle

I got a problem with gnome-power-manager 2.26 (several Versions 2.26.0 2.26.1 2.26.2 (original PKGBUILD)). I can suspend from the applet menu. It does hibernate on critical bat level, but i does not suspend on idle, regardless what timeout values I set in screensaver and gnome-power-manager. Display sleep seems to work though. First I thought, this might be only an issue on my particular notebook, as I could not find anything on google about this, but it is the same behavior on my freshly installed desktop system.
gnome-power-manager --verbose outputs nothing about going to standby.
I built gnome-power-manager and gnome-screensaver from 2.24 and they do work porperly, except the notebook will not hibernating on crit bat level.
Hardware:
Notebook: HP Pavilion dv3550eg (centrino2 - Nvidia 9300M GS)
Desktop: GB AMD 790XT, Phenom 720, Nvidia GTX 260
Software:
Arch64
Might this be an Policy issue? Nevertheless if anyone out there has has this problem, let me know and i am goning to file a bug report.

There was a runtime error earlier related to u201Cdefine credit u201C IMG node under costing sheet component and we have applied SAP note 769946 and that error was gone out of the way
We want to apply/add Overhead to SFG/FG materials.
We are using PP order with PCC(product cost collector) as the cost object , i.e costing by period.(system ECC 6)
But our problem is with material standard cost estimate process.
We have assigned overhead keys to the percentage rates in costing sheet for material standard costing and assigned the origin groups to the credits of costing sheet. But after running the cost estimate overhead is not taking into account for standard cost calculation.
In the define credit entry table key field is valid to date strangly and actually system should allow one than one entry with same valid to date and same sec.Cost element(type-41) for different cost centers.
But if we without using overhead key and origin group, the entire cost in that supporting cost center will come to all materials (SFG/FG) and we can not distinguish between different product materials(SFG /FG).
We have checked all things as mentined below.
Firstly that the correct costing sheet is assigned to the valuation
variant.
That the costing sheet is entered for the appropriate material type:
Finished and semi finished or material components.
All of the above can be checked and verified via transaction OKKN.
In addition make sure that the base value maintained is present in the
costing, for example the base may include an Origin group, is that
origin group part of the materials being costed?
Similarly if the base is found and values exist how is the overhead
rate of the costing sheet set up, is it valid etc.
And finally do a similar check for the credit.
we doubt this as a programm error...

Check your origin group & material unit of mesaurement is same.
some time in costing sheet origin group is maintain in different unit & for materail it's maitain in other unit of mesaurement.
You can see unit of measure for material in Additional data - unit of measure.
Check BOM component material unit also.
Check same unit of measure is maintain in KZS2

My "9-O-L-." keys stop working after startup and my arrow keys too.
Sometimes when I start up the keys will work for a bit then one by one stop functioning and then randomly work every so often, then it seems to "spread" to the right shift key, and sometimes the "8-I-K-," keys.
Around the same time when this all began my Battery completely stopped working too, does this have anything to do with it? I've reset my PRAM and no luck.
I'm planning on replacing the keyboard, will that fix the problem? or is it something deeper?

I assume you've rebooted? Can you control the computer well enough to make a new account and log into it? Doubt this will fix it but maybe. The keyboard may need replacing but it might also be that the cable has worked loose so that some of the wires have disconnected but not all. Sounds like a trip or call to Apple is in order.

DHCP client does not work poperly after systemd and Gnome 3.6 upgrade

Upgraded my system today from Gnome 3.4 to 3.6 (and systemd was updated as well), and since then acquiring an IP address using DHCP does not work anymore.
I am using IPv4 only internally, but neither dhclient or dhcpcd manages to get an IPv4 address.
It seems like IPv6 is priority one, and beacuse there is no IPv6 DHCP server available NetworkManager aborts the whole setup process.
To make sure that IPv6 should not be considered, I have changed "method" in NetworkManager to "Ignore" for IPv6.
I have also tried to downgrade NM to 0.9.6.0 from 0.9.6.4 (since that version works on another, not upgraded, machine), without any result.
Also switched dhclient to dhcpcd, without any result.
The machine is a "pure" systemd machine.
DHCP works for other devices in the network.
Versions:
systemd 195-2
NetworkManager 0.9.6.4
isc-dhclient-4.2.3-P2
I have no issues on a system where following versions are running:
systemd 189-4
NetworkManager 0.9.6.0
dhcpcd 5.6.2

Think I have identified the issue now.
Neither dhcpcd or dhclient is sending the host name properly to the DHCP server anymore. I had an IP address reserved in the DHCP server for my host and after deleting this reservation my host is able to acquire an IP (dynamic) address. The reserved static address could never be acquired.
Conclusion: dhclient and dhcpcd is not sending the host name as before, causing the DHCP server to get stuck (while waiting for the host name) whenever a NIC with a reserved IP address is requesting an IP address.
Downgrading the dhcp clients has not yet worked, so there might be some underlying component that is causing the problem. ath5k? systemd?
