Gnome-power-manager doesn't respond to disconnecting AC power supply

"acpi" command always shows correct information, but gnome-power-manager doesn't.
When computer is initially on AC power, and then I disconnect the adapter, gnome-power-manager still says hapilly that I'm on AC power, and the battery is fully charged. It only reacts when I plug adapter back. Then everything is correct. But If i disconnect it again - it shows "AC power, fully charged" again, even regarding the fact it was "80% charged" a second ago.
WTF?

After updating the BIOS, it's more correct, but still not always (I'm running Acer Aspire One 110).
And, another strange issue - when I disconnect the AC adapter, and the power-manager detects that, it automatically locks the screen. (I have a option enabled that when the laptop is closed then the blank screen screensaver is activated, which locks the screen, but this is not the case)

  • Power manager doesn't show wattage?

    Hi,
    I'm using vista 64 bit and the lenovo power manager 2 (v2.42) doesn't have the option to show wattage when on battery. Is this the norm? or am i missing something? Previous versions do not have this feature too, but when i dual booted in XP i can see the wattage.

    I'm running Vista Business 64-Bit and Power manager 2.42.  I can see my wattage just fine.
    The problem is, you must switch to ADVANCED VIEW.  This will expand the information on the battery tab and include information such as:
    Full Charge Capacity
    Design Capacity
    Voltage
    Amperage
    Wattage (Volts * Amps)
    Manufacturer
    Serial Number
    Manufacture Date
    First Used Date
    Advanced view also enables the Battery Maintenance button.  You can use this to set charge thresholds to prolong the life of your battery.  I use 60% start and 95% stop to minimize top offs.
    Also for comparison.  I can get as low as 6 watts with a dim screen and slow processor on my x200 Tablet (LED 285nit, SL9400, 320GB 5400RPM HDD).  However, if I turn brightness up or increase my activity; 10+ watts is relatively common.

    Power manager installed on my computer does not allow me to change the power schemes nor does it even display preinstalled power schemes. I assume it is currently using the default power scheme. I am using windows xp sp2 , have installed the latest bios for windows xp, but not sure whether the think vantage technologies are the latest .

  • Power manager doesn't display - so I can't get rid of the power change beep...

    Hi everybody,
    I just got the X200 laptop, like it very much except for the annoyingly loud beep when the system goes into stand-by. Looking trough this forum I tried many things, like changing the sound settings in regedit to 'no' and disabling the 'beep' plugin in the system settings. No luck so far. An other solution (that sounds useful) is disabling the 'beep on power changes' option in the Power Manager. But...when I open the Power Manager, it displays the welcome/info screen and then disappears! How can I get into the Power Manager??
    Hope someone can help...
    Cheers,
    Hanneke

    That's a strange one. Run Thinkvantage System Update, or just download and install most recent PM driver and software. Maybe refreshing these will give you PM back. Otherwise, I believe you may also have a setting in the BIOS for the beep. Not in front of my X100 now, but I know I have this setting on my X60s.

  • Openbox as gnome window manager doesn't work

    So, this is my first time with arch, and I have some experience with Ubuntu so I installed the gnome winow manager to start.
    It looks fine but I like some themes and how openbox looks/works more. I decided saw in a wiki that you can make it the window manager for gnome, so I followed the instructions in the wiki, loged out then back in, but nothing happens. Still the same old gnome.
    bash-3.2# gconftool-2 -g /desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager
    openbox
    bash-3.2# cat /usr/share/applications/openbox.desktop
    [Desktop Entry]
    Type=Application
    Encoding=UTF-8
    Name=OpenBox
    Exec=openbox
    NoDisplay=true
    # name of loadable control center module
    X-GNOME-WMSettingsModule=openbox
    # name we put on the WM spec check window
    X-GNOME-WMName=OpenBox

    I believe you want it to be openbox-gnome-session

  • Power manager doesn't get battery status upgrade. Embedded Compact 7

    Hello everybody!
    We are using custom Freescale MX53 based board.
    We are using FAKE battery driver as our battery driver base.
    Driver succesfully built and loaded by wec7 (linked with battdrvr_mdd.lib) and I see debug messages when toggling battery.
    But power manager applet knows nothing about my battery status.
    Here are functions we've implemented:
    BatteryPDDGetStatus
    BatteryPDDGetLevels
    BatteryPDDSupportsChangeNotification
    And in our charger interrupt handle thread we've got:
    LOCKBATTERY();
    BatteryAPIGetSystemPowerStatusEx2(&gBatteryContext.st, sizeof(gBatteryContext.st), TRUE);
    UNLOCKBATTERY();
    PowerPolicyNotify(PPN_POWERCHANGE, 0);
    We see in debug that
    BatteryAPIGetSystemPowerStatusEx2
    calling
    BatteryPDDGetStatus(PSYSTEM_POWER_STATUS_EX2 pstatus, PBOOL pfBatteriesChangedSinceLastCall)
    But nothing changing in power manager. It always shows that power supply connected and battery is charging. Even if
    pstatus->ACLineStatus = AC_LINE_ONLINE;
    pstatus->BatteryFlag = BATTERY_FLAG_NO_BATTERY;
    //or
    pstatus->ACLineStatus = AC_LINE_OFFLINE;
    pstatus->BatteryFlag = BATTERY_FLAG_CRITICAL;
    EDIT:
    Don't know why but can't get GetSystemPowerStatusEx2  from test app. It returns general error(31). And not calling my
    BatteryPDDGetStatus
    Where can be the problem?

    Are you sure you have the battery driver added from the catalog to the OS design?
    It is under Core OS Services->Battery Driver.
    Also you have to have the BSP battery driver added.

  • GNOME power management doesn't notice my laptop battery discharge

    I can use my laptop for an hour (AC unplugged), and the battery is still at 98% or so, according to the GNOME battery applet.
    It's a Toshiba U400-124, with 4 cell (I think) battery, so only lasts about 2-2.5 hours anyway.
    The power stats program in GNOME shows my battery charging OK, but then gives weird stats like 'time until charged: 3.6minutes', just after I've plugged it in.
    (Suspend and hibernate work fine.)
    Has anyone seen a similar thing before? Or can anyone point me in the right direction to see where the problem is?
    I have no idea where to start looking.
    Thanks.

    Also as a really quick fix for this until you solve the problem (I'm having the same issue) you can right click on the top panel and select 'Add to panel' and select battery charge monitor. For me this added another battery monitor which as far as I can tell is reporting the correct info (something else than 100%).
    Good luck and have a nice day.

  • Function Keys and Power Commands Don't Respond

    I've encountered an odd intermittent problem with my iBook G3 900. On certain boots the following issues crop up:
    - Function keys are non-responsive. Expose, Volume, Brightness, and Eject all stop working.
    - Power button doesn't respond. Also, software power commands don't respond. The only way to shut down the system is to do a force shutdown by holding down the power button for four seconds (or other unpleasant things like unplugging the power and the battery, which I refuse to do except under the most dire circumstances).
    - "About This Mac" refuses to load. Sometimes I see the window appear, but it parks itself at the top left of the screen where I can't get to the window bar, and Expose obviously doesn't help.
    Now as I said, this problem is intermittent. It only seems to occur on certain boots, but it's incomprehensibly annoying when it does appear. The iBook is a secondary system, so I have barely anything on it and I don't do anything crazy with as far as software goes. All I know is that the problem appeared after I rebooted after installing SideTrack, but try as I can I can't seem to link my problem with aforementioned app. If the problem does assert itself, I force a shutdown, and it goes away on the next boot.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
    One of the first troubleshooting procedures to try when you are seeing operational anomalies is to reset the PMU.
    What is the hard drive capacity and how much space remains available on it? Sometimes strange things start to happen when you get down to less than 5 GB of free hard drive space.

  • SOLVE strange problem with suspend and resume with gnome-power-manager

    I have pm-utils and gnome installed.
    Suspending and hibernation works well from the command line ($ pm-hibernate and $ pm-suspend).  Resuming works without any problems.
    Suspending from gnome "Shutdown dialog" works perfectly as well.
    However, if suspending is initiated by gnome-power-manager something strange happens:  After pressing the power button resuming switches to hibernation and my laptop turns off.  Resuming from disk works fine again.
    Now, suspending works fine again if I change and save any config file in /etc/pm/.
    Here comes the strange thing:  It doesn't really matter what I change as long as I save it.
    However, as soon as I reboot resuming fails again the way I described above.
    Anyone have a clue what's going on?
    I get no error messages and I've tried all sorts of boot entries.

    After some try and error my guess is that "HAL" is responsible for this problem:
    I deinstalled ACPID and 'pm-utils' and switched to 'uswsusp'.
    I made the appropriate changes to the appropriate hal-scrips
    usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-suspend:
    #!/bin/sh
    /sbin/s2ram --force
    usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-hibernate:
    #!/bin/sh
    /sbin/s2disk
    After these changes I still have the same problem:  immidiatly after resuming form suspend (via power-button) my laptop hibernates (s2disk).
    However, if I delete all entries in "usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-hibernate" resuming from suspend works fine again, but hibernate doesn't of course.  So, some script must be calling "usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-hibernate" emmediatly after resuming from suspend.
    A couple of weeks ago everything worked fine.  My guess is that one of the recent hal-updates is causing this.
    How can I figure what script is calling "usr/lib/hal/scripts/hal-system-power-hibernate" after resuming from suspend?

However, when I attempt to hibernate with gnome-power-manager, i recive an error "Hal failed to hibernate - please see FAQ". When I run g-p-m with no-daemon, it gives an "unspecified error: failed to hibernate". I have the necessary hibernate scripts in /usr/share/hal/scripts (is this the default dir?) and the hal-system-power-hibernate looks as follows:

  • Little help -again- on power-management in xfce

    Hi!
    Is there anyone who uses xfce-power-manager + pm-utils + upower to set his power-management through pm-powersave? (without acpid).
    If yes, he exists, could he please help me to set mine?
    This is a long story, in short, without acpid, i can't have my pm-powersave set my script (in /etc/pm/power.d/ ) in the right way, only after suspend/hibernation.
    What happens: after suspend, there is a little script in /usr lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/00powersave that calls pm-powersave. But -i think- upowerd too tries to run its fu...ing powersave command, as defined in /etc/Upower/Upower.conf.
    But in that moment (during resume/thaw) seems that upower can't understand what my state is, leaving it on ac (as defined in on_ac_power).
    This does not happens everytime, but only sometimes (don't know why).
    Anyway, upower -d recognise perfectly my state.
    The only way to fix this is to set RunPowersaveCommand=false; but in this case, i must use acpid to handle connecting/disconnecting ac power.
    So please, if anyone of you has any sort of ideas, i would appreciate it very much (because i do not want to have acpid and upower doing same thing. I want to use upower. And acpid is deprecated too).
    Thanks!

    Ok, sorry if I answer myself, but i do not want to make the first post yet longer.
    - What i tried to do: revert RunPowersaveCommand to its default (true). Stopped acpid. Then tried to debug better.
    - What i discovered: 1) I killed xfce4-power-manager. 2)I touched an empty file in /etc/pm/sleep.d/00powersave (so /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/00powersave doesn't call pm-powersave during resume). 3)RunPowersaveCommand=false in /etc/Upower/Upower.conf.
    - What Happened: something calls anyway "pm-powersave false" *sometimes* (may be 15% of the times) and this is just fool. I can't believe. What the hell is calling pm-powersave false? I killed every powermanagement software...so?
    Please, give me some help if you can...
    EDIT: another nice discovery!! doing "echo mem > /sys/power/state ... and same result: after 3-4 suspend, i found my pm-powersave script set on false...and i'm again without xfce4-power-manager, etc etc...
    Is this possible?Am i just crazy may be?

  • How do I TURN OFF power management???

    My computer still keeps going to sleep and the only way to wake it up is to hit the reset button.  I tried enabling the keyboard-wake-up to wake it up, but then it started rebooting itself spontaneously every 15 minutes -- without any warning from Windows.  It doesn't matter whether I select S1/POS or S3/STR mode -- it does the same thing every time.  I don't want S1 or S3 power management.  I want to TURN OFF POWER MANAGEMENT COMPLETELY!  I only want Windows to turn off the monitor.  The BIOS should do nothing!
    How do I accomplish this??????????

    This is strange - my understanding is you would usually use the Power button to wake the suspended PC...
    Could what you are experiencing be more of a shutdown or instability?
    Is it due to BIOS setting or Windows? Here are some possibilities
    1. What is your selected Power Scheme? Are your options for Turn off hard disks, System standby & System hibernates set to Never?
    2. These BIOS settings work fine for me ...
    ACPI Standby State : Auto
    Power Management/APM : Enabled
    Suspend Time Out : Disabled
    Set Monitor Events
    FDC/LPT/COM Ports : Monitor
    Primary Master IDE : Monitor
    Primary Slave IDE : Ignore
    Secondary Master IDE : Ignore
    Secondary Slave IDE : Ignore
    Set WakeUp Events
    Resume on PME : Disabled
    Resume on RTC Alarm : Disabled
    Keyboard PowerOn Function : Disabled
    Mouse PowerOn Function : Disabled
    3. Does your keyboard have any of those quick buttons for Power / Sleep / Wake ? Could any of them be stuck? (Mine has these in a most inconvenient place - between Delete/End/PgDn and arrow keys, so I sometimes accidentally pressed them)

  • [SOLVED] Double Icon, xfce4-power-manager - Ideas?

    Hey all,
    Recently I've had this little launcher-like icon beside my power manager icon in xfce4.  I can't seem to get rid of it...and when you right-click on it, it's the exact same thing as the xfce4-power-manager icon.  If I try to click the "quit" option, it closes itself and the xfce4-power-manager.  It's like a double-icon for xfce4-power-manager that I can't seem to get rid of.
    So far I've tried deleting all of my xfce configs (rm -rf /home/<user>/.config/{xfce4,xfce4-session}) and it still shows up.  I've looked at the .xml files and they look fine.  So...I settled on just hiding the icon(s)...it only shows up as one icon to hide in the notification area preferences.
    Any suggestions/ideas on how to get rid of it?  Screenshot provided:

    The only other thing I can think of is you either have 2 instances of xfce4-power-manager running, or gnome-power-manager is trying to launch.
    Have you previously or are you currently starting gnome services at start up (Settings >> Session and Startup - Advanced tab)? If so, check the Application Autostart tab to see if you have both gnome-power-manager and xfce4-power-manager selected.
    Otherwise check to see if more than 1 instance of xfce4-power-manager is running:
    $ ps aux | grep xfce4-power-manager
    there should be too lines similar to the following:
    padfoot 2586 0.1 1.2 177036 12500 ? Ssl 16:51 0:03 xfce4-power-manager --restart --sm-client-id 263cc3d4b-0aaa-48ba-9bfe-14697576ae9f
    padfoot 2615 0.0 0.2 16680 2848 ? Ss 16:51 0:00 xfce4-power-manager
    Any more than that and you have more than 1 instance.
    Let me know
    Cheers.
