Gnome problem and start applications

Hello to all,
Yesterday I did an upgrade of Arch (pacman-Syu) and the machine worked without problems.
When rebooting, it seems that everything functions correctly (I try to login, I see the wifi network and so on ...), but really just try to launch any application (browser, terminal, etc. ...) I see the clock of loading the application, the application you are loading the control panel and then disappears more ... in practice are no longer able to use any application using gnome.
If someone has already stumbled into this problem I ask him the pleasure to give me a hand, because apart from using linux, I can not console (ctrl + alt + f1) do anything else.

now gnome works and the difference is that when I started the machine at home it used the wifi connection while here in office there is not wifi connection

Probleming when starting Application Sharing

Hello,
when I open the CLP and want to start Application Sharing I have to select a user from my contact list first (otherwise I get a message to do so). But after selecting an application to share the user is still not invated and I have to select him over the <i>Contacts</i> tab again. Does anybody have the same problem or know help?

Check whether RTC Services has been activated.

Hi all, went to turn my mac on, and was stuck at the load screen.. then I noticed that load bar that normally happens when firmware is being updated.. but nothing happened. I reset, still same issue.

It suggested I back up as much as I could and reformat my computer!! Lucky I had bootcamp, so I just reinstalled Mac OS over windows.
Is there anything I can do to save my files? It wont allow me to click on Repair Disk Permissions.
When running Verify Disk, it says I need to repair it, so I click on repair disk and I get "disk utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk and restore your backed-up files!!
Now I do have an external drive, if I copied all my music, photos, docs etc to my external drive, that maybe the only way to recover everything? Or is there another way? Please help.

I have tried from the OS installer disk running the repair disk and I get the same error about not being able to do it, and i need to back everything up and re format the drive.
I'm having problems starting in safe mode. I hold down the shift key, and then then little spinning cog comes up, and below it the bar shows safe mode is starting, but then it disappears and just stays on the spinning thing.
This is where the problems first started, was stuck on that.

I just upgraded to Lion and I have not been able to successfully complete a restart. I go to apple menu, restart. The computer powers down no problem and starts but it does not open the desk top. It remains a grey screen with the spinning icon. Any help?

The screen remain grey and a graphic just spins. I have left this happen for as much as 15 minutes without it openning the desk top. When I power down the computer with the power button and start again with the power button. It starts no problem.

Use Lion Recovery to repair the startup disk if necessary, or reinstall the Mac OS X.

Is it necessary to regularly stop and start application to free memory?

Do we need to stop and start an application regularly to free memory and increase performance? We have had random dynamic calc errors that went away after a stop/start.
A consultant recommended we script a stop/start to run once per day. We are on version 7.
I am concerned if the script stops an application while a calc is in progress - database corruption might occur.

One big thing you should realize is that if your memory settings are really too large it does not manifest right away. As you perform certain actions the memory is allocated. So if you are on 32-bit Essbase which you are on a V7 platform the combination of your index + page + memory to support outline + calc caches * # of concurrent calcs + dynamic calc cache + about 200 MB needs to all be under 2 GB; when/if you get to a point of too much memory allocation you start getting quite a few interesting errors. Shutting down/starting up is not a proper long term way to manage memory issues -- properly setting the caches and other configurations is proper to resolve long term for that.

Gnome installation and start up issues

Hey, so I recently made the jump from Windows XP to Archlinux (best... choice... ever!), and has been trying to install gnome, gdm, and xorg using pacman. That was the easy part, after that I edited /ect/inittab to activate the GUI from start up (i.e. removing the # from id:5, and placing one in front of id:3) successfully as well. Now whenever Arch starts up I enter "startx" and gnome initializes completely and I can see the screen, but my keyboard and mouse die at that point. I really am stuck here after 3 or so hours fighting through code, so any help is appreciated.

You shouldn't have to type 'startx' if you set up the computer to start X11 rather than leave you at the command line. Scroll down to the bottom of inittab and make sure the right id:5 is selected for dgm. Also, make sure you have xf86-input-mouse and xf86-input-keyboard installed. Also, if you don't restart after you install xorg-server, it will load the wm/de but and show the mouse pointer, but then it crashes hard and you have to do a hard reboot, as in the the power button. This probably isn't what you are experiencing though?

Problems when starting applications on my new iBook. Please help!

I have just bought myself a nice shiny new iBook G4 running 10.4.4. My problem is this -
When I start Firefox or Entourage it comes up all the time saying "would you like to make this your default browser/mail application"??
Has anyone got an idea as to why my iBook is doing this? My prefs are set in Safari for the default browser to be Firerfox and I haven't even loaded up Apple Mail on this new iBook so I cannot understand why it is doing it!
Any info appreciated, I'm sure it is just an oversight on my part.

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Apple Mail and Safari are the default mail/browser programs in Tiger.
In case you install any 3rd party software of same kind, Firefox and Entourage in your case, the predefined preferences are usually set to prompt the user if one's going to accept them as default programs of their functionality.
To eliminate this effect, please try to locate the preferences settings in Firefox and Entourage and uncheck the relevant feature asking such dialog, or check any feature that makes the program default. However, the simplest action that makes both programs default is answering 'yes' to their dialogs:)
Anyway, this is perfectly normal when you start off with your new accounts.

System-jazn-data.xml problem and start up of Admin Server

Every time I start the weblogic admin server I get this error. Even after shutting everything down, and after restarting my computer. I have no idea why it keeps saying a user mapped section is open. Does anybody know how to fix this or why it's doing this?
Also the second error says the file was not found but it is there, right were it says it is.

1)Is this error occured at leat one secutity enable app installed?(Without application server works well?)
2)Is your app file base secutty enabled one(jazn-dat.xml) then what is the jazn-data.xml file size?
3)All ways keep a backup of newely created domain system-jazan-data.xml. Then you can replace the original one in case.
4)What is tha pllication? If it is an ADF app what is the version?

A665-s6094 starting from sleep problem/hibernate problem and starting form shutdown problem

hey i have a 2 day old toshiba a665-s6094 laptop and whenever i put it to sleep(as in closing the screen not from the button nor the start menu) it cant start again so i have to remove and put back the battery for it to work.
Also it on hibernate, only the display turns off and it doesnt hibernate.
and i have the same problem with shutdown, sometimes doesnt start after shutdown, and only removing the battery and putting it back in makes it start.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am 99% sure that you have the option set to require a password when waking from sleep. If that's the case, the Mac will go back to sleep after a few minutes if no password is entered on wake.
Two workarounds:
1) Turn off the password-on-wake preference, or:
2) Fast-user-switch to the login window before sleeping your Mac. When it wakes it will stay awake; and you still have the security of needing a password to get back into your user account.

Microsoft Word Permissions problem and crashing application

Hi all,
I am having a problem with saving/accessing Word documents on my Xserve (running 10.4.7). This server is installed in a small organization with about a dozen users. All workstations are using Word 2004 (v11.3). When users login to the server and access a document, quite often the permissions change to read only. Also, Word crashes quite often on these workstations while connected to the server. I've tried giving them each unique UID's and also sharing the same UID with the same results.
This problem doesn't happen with other files created from Adobe apps, etc.

Never Mind. I figured it out. Apparently, it was saved and I was looking in the wrong place or something. I'm not exactly sure, but I found the pages!

Problem in starting Application Server control

I have installed Oracle BI. But when Iam trying to configure the discoverer catalog, I could not able to connect to the Application server control. Please advice with which login credentails I need to login to the Application server control.

To connect to the App Server control, you need to login with the id ias_admin. The password is whatever you specified during the installation process. The port number to use would have been displayed at the end of the installation process.

This is a thread of control that has seen a lot of use, so without more information I don't think there's anything we can do from this end... what was the classpath? Was the exception thrown on the server or the client?
Also, is there a connection with iiop here? Should you post to the misc or ejb lists instead?

First, it would be better to post this message in
weblogic.developer.interest.ejb.
If your weblogic server talkes to RemoteClient object on the other weblogic
server. You had to put those xxx_Stub.class in WEBLOGICCLASSPATH of your
weblogic server.
For remote classloading is just for weblogic server to weblogic client. It
is not happened in weblogic server to weblogic server.

How to stop and start only the process of Oracle Application Express?

I'd like to know how to stop the process of Oracle Application Express on my server installed oracle express package.
After installed Oracle Express edition, not only oracle database server processes but also Oracle Application Express, such as http server, is started automatically...
I hope to stop and start Application Express on demand but is this feature enabled?

Oracle Apex is an API, if that helps you understand / visualize. You do not start Apex process nor stop it.
When an Apex session starts it starts calling the API.
You can however start / stop the listener. It may be OHS, ApexListener and the J2EE container running it, OC4J or any other "server" that you are using.
The built-in EPG is something like an API again, you cannot start / stop it but you can disable/enable it with DBMS_XDB.SETHTTPPORT API.
