Go Back in Safari?
Hello,
Coming from a PC, I find myself pressing "delete" almost unwillingly to go back a page in Safari and of course it doesn't do anything.
Is there any button, swipe, or anything besides having to press the back button on the webpage on the MacBook?

first of all , i'm switching to Mac when snow leopard being released , GOD willing ...
but i'm a web developer + designer , and i wan't the users visiting my site see it as i designed and developed on the Mac , thats my point , to get ride of the **** of IE ..... because these features really made many people love to use Safari on windows .... so i wonder why apple removing them from 4 !!!!!!!! now the point :

Is there a way to get out of using RSS in mail.app and go back to Safari?
Hello,
I am a big RSS user and have a pretty huge and unwieldy subscription list. When Leopard shipped, I started using mail.app to read my RSS. I went so far as to delete all of my subscriptions from Safari and rely entirely on mail.app.
As some of you may have noticed from other threads in this forum, RSS in mail.app seems to be not ready for primetime. Specifically, if I leave mail.app open for more than about an hour, the RSS feeds stop updating entirely or update sporadically. It is at this time when I will also invariably find a Database.sqlite3 file in my trash can (which prevents the trash can from being emptied, too).
If I restart mail.app, the feeds start updating again BUT INCLUDE HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF OLD ITEMS. This happens every time I restart mail.app now. I have read all of the other threads that suggest that perhaps dot mac bookmark synching is to blame. This cannot be in my case since I have it all turned off and am not a dot mac member. I have no plugins installed in mail.app or safari.
I have come to the conclusion that RSS in mail.app is too buggy and unreliable to be used and I would like to go back to Safari. The trouble is that when Leopard shipped, the idea of RSS in mail.app made perfect sense to me and I got so enthusiastic and "there's no going back" that I deleted my enormous amount of RSS subscriptions in Safari. Is there anyway to export my RSS subscriptions from mail.app so that I can import them into Safari? I REALLY don't want to try and add them again one by one.here is a link to macosxhints.com that tells you how to output all of your feed URLs to a terminal window. from there you can cut and paste them into your new feed reader of choice...

Safari problem: when I switch back into safari from another application, the menu bar comes up but no tabs or windows. What's going on? Just started yesterday. I have found a workaround: when I Command Tab back to safari, I hit command T to open a new tab and Command W to close it, and my other tabs are visible.
I have tried shutting down, closing tabs, with no success. What's going on and how can I fix it?

PS: I'm not sure of the actual OS level, but I have not allowed it to upgrade to Maverick yet; concerned about it because of a few things I've read...A Safari extension or third party plugin may be causing the menu bar issue.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
As for which OS X is installed.
Click the Apple () menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
The version is noted there.

It's your choice whether or not to upgrade to Mavericks. If you decide to do this, make sure your Mac meets the requirements noted here. -
Hi, I have lost all iPad safari bookmarks. Have tried reset without erasing data and hold home and sleep button together but when go to safari all safari bookmarks still lost. Is there any case help me get back my iPad safari bookmarks ? Currently my safari is hanged, can't surf webs or anything. I saw the safari tab on iCloud is on, but I don't know using iCloud. Hi, I quitted Safari and press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously unti the Ipad turn off and on with the logo Apple appears but it has hanged on and fixed to the point. I do it again hold the Home and Sleep buttons silmutaneously and the Ipad turn off and on again with the Apple logo but it still is hanged on the same point. I have do it a few more time, it still hanged to the same point for few hours with no change (like picture):
I think my Ipad is fault now. I guess I must connect it to the computer with itune, or something. So my case is this: at the moment everytime I hold the Home and Sleep buttons the Ipad always off and reappear with the Apple logo and be hanged on (like the pic), and I need restoring my Ipad Safari bookmarks... so I guess I need using Itune or something to get back the Ipad then using Icloud or blah. Please guide me for the step, Im not sure if connect to PC, if any that my Ipad data would lost, or is there anyway that I also can get back Ipad Safari Bookmarks after connecting to PC, also the how using Icloud. Since updating to 3.6.1 I don’t get an empty browser window in my tool bar when it opens --- just a list of search engines. I can’t find anything in “Help” or the FAQ’s that seem to address this.
My only choice seems to go back to Safari.I am not sure what your problem is, can you give more details.
One possibility is you may be in full screen mode, for details on fixing that see the [[menu bar is missing]] article.
If you are missing various toolbar items, see the [[back and forward or other toolbar items are missing]] article.

Hello everyone,
I've recently been getting error messages on youtube videos when using safari. This never used to happen. I tried using chrome but it didn't take care of the problem. When I set my default browser back to safari, safari won't open any websites that require a username and password. Any suggestions?My case is different from those listed below. First, I'm running OS X 10.8.5 and Safari 6.0.5.
My problem is this:
I run a Google search, say, "youtube somesong", and from the hit list returned from google I
pick some selection. Youtube launches and plays the video without problems. However, when
i click on any of the alternate videos from the page's vertical list, only the name of the chosen video
appears beneath the video I just watched. The new selection itself is not loaded by Safari.
This occurs for any selection I choose. My way around this problem is to force a Safari reload of
the page by using the keyboard shortcut, Command-R. This fills in the old video window with the
video I just chose. Can I conclude that this is a Safari issue alone, or is it a Safari/Youtube combo gotcha? Anyway, the present condition *****.
This problem began sometime after i upgraded to Mountain Lion. I have reset Safari and have also
deleted the Youtube.com Cache, Cookies, and Local Storage from the Privacy settings under
System Preferences. I have also tested the problem by running Safari in 32 bit mode (no luck there).
If anyone out there has experienced this scenario, I sure could use a little help here. -
Reverting back to Safari 5.1.7
Back when Safari 6.0 came out, I updated to it but wasn't happy. At the time my laptop was still under warranty. I took it in for service and the tech deleted 6.0 and reinstalled 5.1.7 for me. This occured about 1 year ago.
Lately, I have been noticing terrible performance in Safari. It has become slow, twitchy, glitchy, unsmooth when scrolling, etc…so I decided to update to 6.1.1. Well its no better performance wise, so I would like to go back to 5.1.7. I have the download manager for it, and I did what the tech did a year ago to first delete 6.0. I deleted the Safari folder in its entirety, exactly how the Apple tech did prior, which is located at:
/system/library/stagedframeworks/safari
I then deleted the Safari folder found at:
Finder, click Go, hold option, click Library, delete Safari folder.
Next, I emptied the Trash Bin.
The problem is that when I run the 5.1.7 download manager, it says it worked but then when I try to launch Safari it does not work.
Anybody got any ideas?If you have Lion the following method is relatively painless (Mountain Lion removed the OS X RSS supporting code so Safari v5.1.7 won't run on Mountain Lion) - assuming you have access to an installed package of Safari v5.1.7.
Leave v6.0 where it is.
Find another installed Safari v5.1.7 source (time machine, or a Mac that wasn't updated - Snow Leopard Macs did not get the v6 update). For a Mac that wasn't updated go into the Applications folder copy the Safari package (its the Safari Application with the Safari icon in Applications directory) - it should be about 40MB in size if memory serves.
On your Safari v6.0 Mac, go into your Applications folder and create a new folder (I called mine Old Safari), then drop your Safari v5.1.7 copy into it. Copy the Safari v5.1.7 to the dock so you can launch v5.1.7 easily (I deleted my v6 Safari icon for clarity Dock but its not required).
Run v5.1.7 and enjoy its functionality again (its what I'm typing this in and others have used this method) and any updates that come for v6 should find the installed v6 and update it.
Important, do not run both versions at the same time (they use the same supporting files and corruption is likely) and just to avoid issues if you are running v5.1.7 I'd avoid using v6 till your ready to give up the ghost on v5.1.7 (who knows what kind of issues could raise their heads with them both using the same supporting files).
At some point, with this method, you could do an update from Apple that updates the underlying supporting code Safari uses and breaks Safari v5.1.7 (like disable the Lion OS X RSS functionality) so that's an ongoing danger, but this is an option for folks that want to use v5.1.7 again and can't roll back their machines.
Of course v6 had a bunch of security issues fixed so using v5.1.7 presumably leaves those and future updates behind - so this isn't a great long term solution, but for now it works. -
How do I change my default browser on my MBP back to Safari?
I made the mistake of changing my default browser to Google Chrome on my MBP. I have it on my Dad's Dell, only cause I updated that to Windows 7 and needed to update the browser settings on that. That change on my MBP transfered the Norton & MaFee as well.
Now it won't let me change back to Safari. I'm not thrilled with 'data sharing'and 'data mining' aspects of Chrome.
My MBP is using 10.9.1 Mavericks.

Find a PDF file in the Finder, select it and go File > Get Info. Find the Open With section and change the application from Adobe Reader (?) to whatever other PDF viewing app you prefer (Safari.app?). Click on the button that activates in that section (Change All...) and say Yes to making every PDF open with the new option your choose.
In my opinion, viewing PDFs posted on websites in Safari is fine, but viewing PDFs downloaded or that reside on your iMac are better suited to being viewed using Adobe Reader (though you might not be used to what it does), or Preview. You should explore what they have to offer.

While on reading a post on Facebook my new ipad 4 will reset back to safari or aol and i have to sign in again. this is a reoccuring problem. i have the latest update installed already.
1. Close all inactive apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two and tap the minus sign to close app.
2. Try a reset. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo -
My bank (Chase) and my wife's payroll provider (ADP) say I can no longer pull our statements because of incompatibilities between Adobe Reader and Safari. The Apple site says it is not responsible for for 3rd party software. Adobe says go back to Safari 5.0. Apple dosen't let me download Safari 5.0; so what do I do. The bank had me download Chrome, and I can now download my statements. but what a pain. Any suggestios?
Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again. -

Make sure there's enough free space on the startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon on your Desktop.
Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available.
Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
If there's sufficient disk space, the startup disk may need repairing.
Launch Disk Utility located in /Applications/Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
You will need your install disc if the startup disk needs repairing.
