Go back to Leopard to get old drivers to work?

I need to get some drivers to work which hasn't been released for lion yet. Do I need to go back to snow leopard then, and is there an easy way to do that? Is there some other way to go about?
Need to get the drivers for an electric piano called m-audio KeyStudio to work.
Thank you!

before considering such a drastic .. there is a second option available that might save the day .
Snow Leopard and Lion's drivers are more or less compatible. the only thing that Lion does different then Snow is that it boots in 64bit kernel-mode. Thus needing drivers that have 64bit code in them.
Snow Leopard booted the 32-bit kernel, but was able ( at users will ) to also boot its 64-bit part. The drivers included in Snow and in Lion have both codes in them, 32bit as well as 64bit. Depending on which kernel is booted, the correct code is loaded.
3rd party drivers of course are free to develop drivers as they seem it fit, and in some cases those vendors only ship 32-bit drivers, that are Snow/Lion-compatible but of course will fail and not even load as long as the 64bit kernel is set to be the default one..
Hope this explains it.
Now Lion can still be defaulted to using the same kernel mode that Snow had as standard, thus Lion is able to load drivers it would refuse in the way Apple has intended its boot-mode.
Note that this WONT affect APPS. 32bit OS X can still execute 64bit Apps, so you will not loose anything featurewise.
To boot the 32 bit part of OS X you simply press 3 + 2 keyboard combination together on boot-up. For 64 it is 6+ 4.
If you find that the driver in question is loading in your desired mode, you can also make this a permanent setting ,  :
In terminal.app you would write  and hit enter after the command
sudo nvram boot-args="arch=x86_64" for 64bit mode
or
sudo nvram boot-args="arch=i386" for 32bit mode
After a reboot the chosen kernel mode is loaded all the times.

  • I need some old drivers to work after Lion install, any tweaks for that?

My Protools interface isn't working (not compatible), some controlers i had for video games arn't reading drivers for them. Is there a fix for them? What if some of the drivers are never going to be updated, is there an app i can install?

I have Firewire interfaces from Alesis as well as a Zoom R16 and an old Tascam US122 and NONE of the drivers will work with Lion. I've been in touch with Alesis and they say they're "working on it". Meanwhile I have a recording session booked for next week and it looks like I'm going to have to either cancel or revert to Snow Leopard to get the job done. I haven't ever had this much of an issue when updating the OS before. I'm trying to stay calm but I have to admit to being in a bit of a panic.
Zoom support said it was a Lion problem and left me with the impression they weren't even investigating the issue. I haven't tried getting in touch with Tascam because the device itself is old.
The Alesis gear includes a Multimix 16FW and an IO|26 which used the same driver in Snow Leopard.
Any solutions that might get me going, particularly with the Alesis gear, would be greatly appreciated

  • HP all in one ms237 cant get wireless drivers to work

Hi i have a HP all in one PC, ive had this PC for a very long time, we upgraded to windows 8 and i dont remember how but i did manage to get wireless drivers on it at one point. the PC's hard drive went out and so i bought a new one and re-installed windows 8 (64 bit) onto it and now i cant get wireless drivers to get installed on it. I tried running the drivers with windows 7 compatability but no dice. I also tried different versions of the driver and still no luck, device manager will see the wireless card but says its not working properly (driver issue) the weird thing is that when i uninstall the drivers for it i can see the adapter in adpater settings, however when i install newer drivers and it goes back to being non existent lol. Any ideas?

    Hello @rapid3642,
I understand that you are having issues getting your wireless to work on your HP Pavilion All-in-One MS237 Desktop PC running Windows 8. As you probably have already figured out there are no Windows 8 drivers for your computer. I can see why you would have issues installing Windows 7 drivers on a Windows 8 computer. What you probably did initially was upgrade your Windows 7 to Windows 8 with the driver already installed. Unlike a new Windows 8 installation where you need to install the drivers an upgrade will already have drivers installed and the operating system is simply replacing what is needed without having to go through the installation process.
I would recommend that you either install your original Windows 7 and then upgrade to Windows 8 or you may want to look at replacing the 802.11 b/g/n PCI express wireless half-length mini card with one that is compatible with Windows 8.
I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Can't get old scanner to work with new iMAC

I have an old scanner, Epson Perfection 4870 Photo that I can't get my new iMAC to install in PSE6 like I've had in my older computers. I've installed all the software (plus I used my old laptop to transfer files/information when I initially started the new iMAC. When I go into PSE6 it is not under the import area that it used to be. Do I need to go manually drag the file in the hard drive to another folder? Thank you.

Most likely the problem is with the driver. I have the same scanner at work and this is what I had to do to get it to work. Because you are running PSE6 which is a Universal Application on an Intel Mac, in order for the plugin to load within PSE it must also be a Universal plugin which it's not. Epson claims these drivers that were released in 2006 are Intel and 10.5 compatible. What you have to do to get it to work is Open up Epson Scan Utility in order to scan because the Scan Utility will run as a PPC Application. You can call Epson to confirm but if they try and tell you how to run PSE in Rosetta that is not a good solution.

  • Can't get video drivers to work

I've used the same method to install Arch Linux since Windows 8 was released and it has worked perfectly in all that time. This is the method:
    http://www.neuraladvance.com/dual-booti … g-lvm.html
    http://www.neuraladvance.com/installing … linux.html
Now when I try and install Arch along with XFCE 4.10 I get a blank screen when SLiM is meant to run and I can't see anything else. I've tried both the open source ATI drivers as well as the catalyst drivers and nothing seems to make a difference. I'd really like to be able to get my Arch Linux system up and running again.
Does anyone have any hints about what steps may be missing from the above two articles? I'm using the latest install media which was released yesterday but nothing I have tried has helped.

    Hi,
it is something that is mentioned many times already, but the best way to install Arch is to use only the Beginners Guide.
The pages you linked to are -in relation to the present installation-very much outdated (november and december 2012).
Arch has changed during that time, so has the Beginners Guide/Installation Guide. The best hint I can give you is to check
your install method against the present Beginners Guide and related wiki pages, and (sorry if this may come across rude)
never use that method again in the future, to avoid these kind of problems.
EDIT: and missed the above posts......
Well I certainly re-read the official documentation and update the posts as required. The thing is the installation instructions in those posts does work. X simple stopped being able to boot about a month ago because all it showeed was a blank screen and the cursor. It never actually went on to display the desktop. This is really the problem I am trying to resolve. I find it hard to believe that no-one else who has an AMD graphics has not had similar problems yet I see very little information on the subject in the forums or on the wiki.

  • I just switched from pc and want to get printer drivers to work with macbook air.  How do I do that?

I just switched from pc and want to get my HP all in one printer to work with macbook air.  Is it just as simple as downloading drivers from HP?

Turn the printer on and plug the printer into the MBA and your mac should install the printer for you (usually any necessary drivers too).  I had a printer I used on a pc and I plugged it into my macs usb port and my mac automatically recognized it and took care of everything for me.  If you do this and it wont print, then yes go to the HP website the install latest drivers for 10.7

  • Is there a way I can get 7.0 back, I can't get 7.1 to work?

I have tried everything I could find on how to fix this. I hasn't launched since I installed 7.1.
I really just want to get my library back. It is on my disk drive, but I cannot launch iTunes. I miss my Podcasts.
I'd like to download 7.0 again. I can't find it.

    you could try:
    http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.htm
It's funny how things work out, I never go 7.0x to work properly but 7.1 if fine for me.
If you haven't checked if Quicktime works your should. If it doesn't, you could try uninstalling it and downloading and installing the stand alone version, second option here:

  • [Radeon] MSI RX9550SE Can't Get Any Drivers to Work

Board is recognized my O/S but I can only get a vidoe signal with generic VGA driver.  Currently the board only shows in my devices as MSI RX9550SE T128 Secondary.  If I try installing drivers from installation disk with board, latest from MSI site or Catalyst 5.3 from ATI I get the same result - black screen {no signal} using these drivers but system boots fine.  All of these drivers cause message that they are not XP signed but I continue anyway.  I have removed and reinstalled device numerous times, no difference.
I have set the BIOS AGP to 4 instead of 4x/8x.  I have updated my BIOS and MSI board drivers to the latest.  I notice in other threads that there may be issued with some MB for instability using PS/2 mouse and keyboard.  Sometimes this devices are not recognized and have to reboot and wehn sw\itching users in XP system reboots itself.  Have not switched to USB mouse and keyboard yet.
Kind of pointless to have this vidoe board if I can only run the generic VGA driver which gives me none of the performance the board should.  I must have something not set right, this should work just fine.  Any suggestions?

Got rid of MB drivers and ATI drivers, used Device Cleaner
Installed latest nVidia neoforce and ATI catalyst from their websites.  Now XP Devices shows MSI RX9550SE T128 {and appears disabled} and MSI RX9550SE T128 Secondary {appears enabled}.  Both show the driver as the current ATI driver I installed.  If I enable the non-secondary device screen goes black but computer still runs (does not reboot}.
However, Advanced Setting from desktop properties under Adapter shows no identified adapter type with all items under Information as <unavailable>.  Adapter properties say VgaSave.  Catalyst Control Center does not open when launched and running ATI Wizard produces "Catalyst Control Center Desktop Setup Failed".
Seems like I have more issues than a driver problem.  None of my devices report any conflicts.  Any other ideas?  MSI support says to use their drivers since they may tweak ATI's some for their products.

  • PLEASE HELP! How to get (old) Airport Card working on (old) emac???

Hi, I have an older 700MHz emac and I got an Airport Card (the original, I think).
I opened the CD tray, connected the antennae and seated the card, but it still says "No information found" when I look in the system profile, under Airport Card.
What could I be doing wrong? I've re-tried this a couple of times already.

Push the card in really hard, until your hear it click - Mine was like yours, then I tried one last time to press it in real hard, and it worked... If that doesnt work, then you have a dud card, or your Airport slot is broken.

  • Where are old drivers - need to rollb

I made the mistake of installing SBAXVSD_PCDRV_LB_2_2_0002 and now i have no sound at all in Vista. All my sound icon in my tray says is "No Audio Output Device Is Installed". I cannot rollback from device manager because that button is disabled. Where can I get old drivers like 2_0 so that I can get my sound back? Thanks,
    Darren

Double thanks I went back a driver version to see if it solves my issues of audio getting really choppy or dropping out completely for seemingly no reason. Time will tell.

  • Uninstalled snow leopard and went back to leopard.  happy again!!!!!

battery life is much better. macbook not getting hot and fan doesnt come on anymore. no more spinning wheel.
dont think i will be updating to snow leopard in a while

I had a MBP and iMac running Leopard and after upgrading to SL I too am have a litany of problems (it's not in my imagination and I'm not interested in trying a bunch of different things to try to fix them; doing so may only create more problems as new updates come out to fix those... then I have to potentially unfix my fixes to let Apple's fix fix things, get it?) and I would like to go back to Leopard.
I have Time Machine backups for both systems (MBP on 10.6 and iMac on 10.6.1) from BEFORE the upgrade to SL. I have backups on the TMs AFTER the upgrade to SL. I have no other backups (no bootable images.)
So, my actual question is: has anyone been in a similar position and successfully gone back to Leopard AND restored the TM backup to get them (at least from a user-data perspective) back to a current state?
I know I can't completely restore a post-upgrade backup (that would bring me back to SL), but I would like to go back to Leopard and get back all user data (email, itunes, iphoto, browser settings/bookmarks, etc.)
Has anyone actually done this and can recommend a path of least resistance to get there?
My wife, who was just about sold on going all-out Mac is now considering going back to WinXP and this is screwing with my grand all-Mac strategy... (I was very happy with the stability and trouble-free nature of OS X... not now)

  • Sound Blaster X-FI drivers not working

I have a sound blaster x-fi card, im pretty sure thats the model, and i downloaded updated drivers that were supposed to support it i believe it was SBXF_PCDRV_XPVT_LB_2_18_0015.exe. After installation i have no sound at all and if i try to chose the volume mixer it gives me an error message: "There are no active mixer devices available..."
It shows that it is installed properly and functioning in device manager and Windows Audio Service is running. After the updated drivers weren't working i rolled back to my previous drivers and the problem is persisting even with the old drivers that worked before. I'm at a loss I have tried everything i can think of even reloading drivers from the original installation cd from 2007 and i cant find anyone with the same problem on the net.

the full model number of the device is sb0460
I used auto update to find the offending drivers that are the whole cause of this issue. I know it is a problem with windows but it was caused by me attempting to update these faulty drivers. Updating the drivers is the only thing i have changed on the system that now has no devices available for playback. i have since uninstalled and removed the card from my mobo and switched to onboard audio and now that doesn't even work.
Just like the sound blaster, the onboard audio's drivers are working fine and the device says its functional yet i cant select it as a default playback device and i get the same errors when trying to open the mixer.
So basically the botom line is that the auto updater or the subsequent drivers that were retrieved by it messed up something in my system that even system restore cant fix.
I would love to do a full re-installation of windows xp media center but this is a hand me down computer and i dont have the installation disks. I'll probably have to buy or request one then wait 6 months just to have a functional computer again.

  • Cant get graphics card to work on MS6166 board

    Anybody had same problem?

Well, have you tried leaving the monitor cable connected to the onboard VGA and tried booting up? Sometimes you need to disable it within BIOS.

  • How do I get iTunes to recognize a new device if I accidentally did not hit new device when I first hooked it up? I hit the button that said I wanted to back it up from my old info

How do I get iTunes to recognize a new device if I accidentally did not hit new device when I first hooked it up? I hit the button that said I wanted to back it up from my old phone. The new phone is my husbands and I don't want to back up my phone info on it. I re connected it hoping it would prompt me with the option again and it doesn't , it just shows up as a back up to my phone. How can I get it to give me that option in the beginning again

First of all, I think the first time you sync an iPod that's formatted for Windows on a Mac, the sync process reformats it for Mac. You can check what it is now by looking for the iPod with Disk Utility. If it's Mac OS Extended, it's formatted for Mac already.
Also, there is no current iPod updater app these days. iTunes handles it through the Restore button. If you are not able to use the latest iTunes because of your Mac, I can understand. The latest version of iTunes should run with 10.3.9 or later, if the hardware can handle it.
You said the battery was low so let it recharge for a while.
You should also reset the iPod. It's part of the 5Rs, which you should go through as the starting point for iPod trouble-shooting.

You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
You can trash Firefox 4.0 then re-install Firefox 3.6, it will use your existing bookmarks, passwords etc
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com
