GoDaddy account password, working with Mail

Hi all,
I recently set up a GoDaddy e-mail account which I couldn't get to work in Mail. In Thunderbird, it worked fine.
Mail would tell me that my password was rejected, and then give me the dialog box to enter it again.
The password was 18 characters long. I changed it to a shorter one -- 12 characters -- and now that works.
I wasn't aware that Mail had password limitations, which seems to be the case here. Does anyone have info about this? I'd rather use a longer password.
Thanks,
Ryan

MobileMe offered a POP options, and people who have migrated have sometimes found that the facility hung over for a bit before disappearing.
If you were using it in POP mode and had received the emails they should be on your computer - receiving them would download them and probably remove them from the server. However the POP access was probably set up as a separate account to the IMAP, so if you deleted the POP account you would have deleted the emails along with it unless you took steps to save them. • GoogleMail POP account not working with Mail

I am trying to setup my GoogleMail account in mail. Going through the tests, everything works correctly (POP and SMTP). However, I cannot receive any mail via POP...I can however send mail via SMTP. I deleted the GoogleMail setup and tried it again with the same result. If I go to my GoogleMail account directly in a browser, all the sent mail from Mail is going through.
    What could be the problem?

Ah! If you were talking about messages sent to yourself, then this is a Gmail issue; Mail has no bearing on it. Gmail POP access doesn’t work as a normal POP mail server would. Here are some of its idiosyncrasies:
    1. Messages downloaded by any conventional POP mail client are marked as downloaded at the server (but not as read on the web), and no longer available to either the same or any other POP mail client.
    2. To make already downloaded Gmail messages available for POP access again, you must go to Gmail’s Settings > Forwarding and POP page, select Enable POP for all mail, and click Save Changes, which will cause everything (and I mean everything) still there to be downloaded again. Alternatively, if you only want to download the last 30 days of mail, you can configure Mail in “recent mode” as described in How should I use POP on mobile or multiple devices?.
    3. Any Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on Gmail’s server.
    4. Messages created and sent using the web interface will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they were incoming messages. You can set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for that matter) if that's what you want. Although this may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they were sent -- as long as you don't access the same Gmail account with more than one POP mail client, that is.
    5. Messages created and sent using a POP mail client such as Mail are also treated as if they were incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in 4. What prevents them from being downloaded is that Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately. They would, however, be downloaded if Gmail settings were changed as described in 2 above.
    6. As a particular case of 5, messages sent to yourself will appear in your Inbox on the web, but cannot be downloaded by either the same or any other POP mail client.

  • Can't sign in using any 3rd party email client with my iCloud account on any Mac. Tried every settings, My iCloud only works with Mail.app

Can't sign in using any 3rd party email client with my iCloud account on any Mac or any other Mac. My iCloud will only work with Mail.app. All the clients I tried work perfectly well as long as I sign in with somebody else's iCloud account. But mine won't work no matter the client (Postbox, Unibox, Airmail...) and no matter the computer.
I can access my account on iCloud.com, but I can't use email clients without getting error messages prompting me to check my password or login.
I was able to use those clients in the past but a couple of months ago I got logged out of Airmail and the issue started just like that!
I tried every possible mail server settings including the following:
IMAP information for the incoming mail server
    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
If you receive errors when using SSL, try using TLS instead.
    Port: 993
Username: The name part of your iCloud email address (for example, emilyparker, not [email protected])
    Password: Your iCloud password
SMTP information for the outgoing mail server
    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
If you receive errors when using SSL, try using TLS instead.
    Port: 587
    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
Username: Your full iCloud email address (for example, [email protected], not emilyparker)
    Password: Your iCloud password

Those are the correct settings, and they work with any email client that supports Imap.
    Try again.

  • I cannot share photos via my hotmail account but works with Gmail

    Can anyone help?
I have been using my hotmail account to send/share photos on iPhoto. Recently I cannot share photos via my hotmail account but works with Gmail?
What do I need to do to get the hotmail account working again?

In iphoto I select the photos to send, click on share and email. I setup the email in iphoto and iphoto sorted out all the pop3 & SMTP settings all i had to do was put my email & password in. Since its gone wrong I have got an ipad but no changes to my email settings.
I have been looking at the 'mail' which is also setup for hotmail and I can't send emails from there either so i don't think there is a problem with iphoto.

  • Getting self-signed certificates working with mail

    Hi all,
I am having trouble getting email certificates created with keychain access to work in mail.
According to the Leopard help file, you simply have to go to Keychain access and create the certificate, which I did. After that if you create a message in mail with that account, there should be an icon showing that the message will be signed or encrypted if you have the recipients certificate installed. I cannot seem to get this to work. I have created the certificates specifically for email, the certificate shows in Keychain as well as a public and private key entry, but mail refuses to see it.
Has anyone gotten this to work with Mail and self-signed certificates?
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    RacerX

Have you tried setting the "Always trust" property? Double click the certificate in Keychain Access and allow it to have always trust for email.
Also, make sure that bundles are enabled for mail.
(Forget the command, google for "defaults write com.apple.mail enableBundles")
    That did it for me.

  • I have an AT&T Email Account that doesn't work with Mail for Lion

I've had this email account with AT&T for a few years and it has worked with Mac Mail with no difficulty for a few years. Recently the account has been able to receive messages. Every time I hit Get Mail it asks for a password. I have installed all the latest updates through Software Update. I have a Mac Mini with OS Lion. After struggling for awhile, my inbox eventually comes in. I have reset all the incoming and outgoing POP Server accounts, as well as used the Webmail version through Yahoo.com and it all works fine. What is going on and how can I continue to use this program.

Go to the AT&T support site and verify that you have setup Mail with the correct confuguration, i.e., ports, server names, etc. Otherwise, you haven't provided enough details to be of much assistance.
Rcommend that you get a .me account and start using IMAP email in lieu of POP3. You can then configure your existing AT&T account to forward all email to your .me account.

  • Mac Mail... what e-mail accounts will work with this?

    Hello,
I want to set up my e-mail to work with Mac Mail. I currently have a yahoo account and realize this cannot be done with Yahoo. So, my question is what e-mail account can I set up and use with Mac Mail?
I am aware that .mac has an account that works, but I am not into paying $100 for that at the moment. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you!

I currently have a yahoo account and realize this cannot be done with Yahoo
You can use your Yahoo mail if you use their Yahoo Mail Plus service.
You'll need to enable POP access to your mailbox, then you can setup Mail.app with a new POP account pointing to Yahoo.
If you don't want to use Mail Plus then you can use any other service that offers POP or IMAP access to your mailbox. However, bear in mind that most free mail services rely on a web-based interface because they use the ads to pay for the service.

  • Correct password doesn't work with Mail interface, but works with web interface.

Mail claims "The POP server “mail.nykayak.com” rejected the password for user “valerie”, yet when I log in through the web interface the password works. All other accounts work. Has anyone experienced this and found a solution?

Mackie, Welcome to the discussion area!
On your iMac G3, go to the AirPort menu and select the network name. It will prompt you automatically for the correct type of wireless encryption password.
I wouldn't trust selecting an option from Internet Connect.
In AirPort Admin Utility, what type of wireless encryption have you enabled? If it is WPA2 the iMac G3 won't be able to connect.
Also ensure that your AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) is configured to work in an 802.11b compatible mode. The iMac G3 is only 802.11b.

  • Pop Account Password issues with Snow Leopard

Since upgrading to Snow Loeopard my mail account will not accept my password, every time I connect with Mail it comes up with an error message stating that the pop server hasn't accepted my password - Help

Same with me, the entire Modifier Keys settings pane for the Apple Keyboard does nothing, not just the Caps Lock setting. It works fine for the built-in MacBook Pro keyboard, but not for the external USB Apple keyboard. This worked perfectly fine on Leopard, but after upgrading to Snow Leopard it doesn't. How'd they break this??!

  • .Mac Account Not working with iChat AV

    Hi,
I'm having trouble using iChat AV 2.1 (v153) under OSX 10.3.9. I can not use my AppleID to log into AIM, so I am limited to chats with users on the local network whom I discover via rendezvous/bonjour.
The whole story is related below. Deleting com.apple.iChat.AIM.plist doesn't help.
    Thanks for your help.
    - C
    Chance Reschke
I am able to access the MyInfo page with my .Mac password:
    https://myinfo.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyInfo.woa......
But, I decide to change my .Mac password anyway to try to fix the iChat problem.
    Visit the .Mac account page:
    https://www.mac.com/WebObjects/Account.woa?aff=consumer&cty=US&lang=en
and click on the "Forgot your password?" link. Indicate that I want to reset my password via email, and the web page indicates that the info I need was sent to [email protected], which is strange and useless.
So, I try again: click on "Forgot your password?" link, then on the "Forget your Apple ID?" link. Fill in my info, including my valid email address, and the web page indicates that it has sent the info I need. Check my email, and presto! there's a link to follow to change
    my password.
I click on the link. Get a web page where I enter a new password twice, which it accepts, followed by a web page that says:
Your Apple ID password has been changed.
Select the "continue" button below to return to .Mac
    Login or choose
    from the list at right.
with a big green "Continue" button. I click the button and get the "Rejoin .Mac" page:
    http://www.mac.com/WebObjects/Welcome.woa?aff=consumer&cty=US&lang=en
I also get an email message telling me my password has been changed and I'm set to log in. It also tells me to report any problems to:
    http://survey.info.apple.com/feedback/appleid.html
I don't want to Rejoin .Mac, which I have to pay for and which provides a bunch of services I don't need - I just want the minimal functionality required to get iChat to work.
So, I restart iChatAV. It immediately opens a window that says:
    AOL Instant Messenger Login
Please enter your login ID and password for the AOL
    Instant Messenger service.
with my login ID already filled in - [email protected] - and the password field blank. I fill in the password field with the password I just used the .Mac account management page to reset, and IT IS REJECTED. I try a few times - all rejected. I eventually click on the cancel button and I'm back to where I was - limited to Rendezvous/Bonjour chats.
I am still able to access the MyInfo page with my .Mac user ID and (new) password.
I've been through this several times with the same outcome each time.

    Thanks for responding.
My password is eight characters long. [disclosure, the problem's I've been reporting are with my wife's account - so "My" = my wife's]
I don't have access to the 10.3 machine right now, but I've reproduced the problem with iChat 3.0.1 (v392) under 10.4.2.
I select Preferences from the main iChat pull down menu. I then select Accounts, and click on the "+" to add a new account. I click in the "Use this account" check box. I select .Mac as the Account Type. In the Description field, I enter "Chance's Account". In the .Mac Name field, I enter my .Mac username and "@mac.com" is automatically appended with no way to delete it. I enter my .Mac password in the Password field.
I then select Log In to AIM from the main iChat pull down menu, and, instead of simply logging me in as happens with my account (as opposed to my wife's, which is the problem account we;re discussing), I get a pop up menu "AOL Instant Messenger Login" prompting me to enter the password for the account [email protected]
It doesn't help to delete the "@mac.com" part. It doesn't help to check the "Allow multiple logins for this account" in iChat preferences.
I am sooooo sick of this!

  • Pop accounts and .Mac with Mail system

Iv been trying to learn how to use my iBooks 'mail' system with both my Gmail and .Mac accounts. But, keep coming up with more questions than I can find answers to.
    1. Why doesn't mail that I receive or send from my 'mail' programme show up when I go to .Mac and open the mail there? Shouldn't the mail be in both?
    2. Same question for folders that I created in both .Mac and the 'mail' system.
    3. When using the 'mail' system with POP accounts does deleting mail automatically also delete the mail in the original POP account. In other words if I have the 'mail' system set to delete POP mail for a Gmail account does that also delete the copy over in Gmail?
Just trying to figure out how the 'mail' system works in relation to if I use .Mac. Also, in relation to Gmail. I'm learning that when I'm in .Mac things aren't quite the same.
Thank for the help in advance.

You can access multiple accounts with the Mail.app and each account has its own webmail access that does not reflect all mailboxes available with an email client such as the Mail.app. It is impossible for webmail access with your .Mac account to reflect your Gmail, Yahoo or any other non-.Mac account mailboxes or any user created "On My Mac" location mailboxes which are stored locally on the hard drive.
The same when accessing your Gmail or Yahoo account via webmail access using a browser. Doing so will reflect your Gmail or Yahoo account mailboxes only.
When logged in to your .Mac account via webmail access using a browser, it will reflect your .Mac account's inbox mailbox in Mail and any other .Mac server stored mailboxes in Mail which are located under your .Mac account named icon in the mailboxes drawer only. It will not reflect the mailboxes for any other account, any imported mailboxes or user created "On My Mac" location mailboxes.
    > Sounds like what you're saying that in order for both .Mac and my mail.app to sync they both have to be marked ".Mac account" and not "on my Mac". That way they both operate from the main Mac server. Am I heading in the right direction?
    Not exactly.
The Mail.app mailboxes drawer includes the following in this order:
    * Inbox
    * Drafts
    * Sent
    * Trash
    * Junk (only if Junk Mail is set to automatic)
    * Smart Mailboxes (only if you have created and are using any Smart Mailboxes)
    * Imported Mailboxes (only if you have imported any mailboxes)
    * User Created "On My Mac" location mailboxes.
    * .Mac account named icon
The Inbox mailbox for each account is located under Inbox in the mailboxes drawer regardless the account type. Open Inbox in the mailboxes drawer by selecting the black triangle beside it pointing it down to reveal the account named Inbox mailbox for each account. Selecting an account named Inbox mailbox in the mailboxes drawer reveals messages received by that account only in the message list. Selecting Inbox in the mailboxes drawer reveals a blended Inbox mailbox for all accounts.
Your .Mac account's Inbox mailbox in the mailboxes drawer is synchronized with the server which is the same behavior with any IMAP account. Messages in your Gmail or Yahoo account's Inbox mailbox are downloaded from the server, not synchronized with the Gmail or Yahoo servers and the same with any POP account. It is impossible for your .Mac account to synchronize the Inbox mailbox for a non-.Mac account.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for your .Mac account preferences, if you don't store Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server with your .Mac account when using Mail, the account's Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk mailboxes will be available under the Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk categories in the mailboxes drawer. All account mailboxes under Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk in the mailboxes drawer are stored locally on the hard drive.
Open your .Mac account named icon in the mailboxes drawer. All mailboxes under your .Mac account named icon represent/refelect your .Mac account server stored mailboxes when accessing the account via webmail EXCEPT for the account's Inbox mailbox which is located under Inbox in the mailboxes drawer. If you don't select store Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for the account preferences, besides your .Mac account's Inbox mailbox, no other mailboxes are and can be synchronized with the server except for the mailboxes located under your .Mac account named icon in the mailboxes drawer.
When creating a new mailbox, you can select "On My Mac" as the location which is stored locally on the hard drive and will not be synchronized with the server or any server.
Or you can select your .Mac account as the location which will create a server stored mailbox which will be located under your .Mac account named icon in the mailboxes drawer and will be available on the server (via webmail access) and kept synchronized with the server.
No other mailboxes in Mail will be available on the server with your .Mac account via webmail access and this is the same behavior with any email client such as the Mail.app.
    > Is this something I should ring up Applecare on to make it simpler to make them match? Or would changing them all to ".Mac account" and the server solve the issue?
Calling AppleCare will be a waste of time because your problem is a lack of knowledge and understanding only. You can't change your Gmail or Yahoo email accounts to a .Mac account with Mail or with any email client since these are separate/different accounts.

  • Hi my road runner mail works with mail but not outlook for mac?

This problem seems to have popped up after updating to Lion.  I like outlook because I use it at work and I like the calander right there. My exchange account for work and gmail account function well but road runner is an issue?  Does any one have experience with this issue?

Sounds to me like the mail server you're trying to reach is not reachable when off the netwok it lives on. This is pretty common of you're using e-mail provided by your ISP. It's done to help control spam relaying through their servers. Contact the mail provider for the correct server settings to use on a mobile device.
