Godaddy and Forwarding to .Mac

Can someone give me specific directions for forwarding a domain name at godaddy to my newly created iweb site on .mac. I've seen references to masking versus unmasking, I'm a little confused about that.
I've also read previous posts about some problems in redirecting the browser to the .mac site from godaddy have these issues been corrected?
Thanks for any help,
John

John,
I don't use GoDaddy, but I'll try to be as specific as I can.
Log into your GoDaddy account and look for what is typically called your Domain Control Panel. Most registrars refer management of a Domain to this type of panel. Once there, look for the option to forward your Domain, and enter your .Mac url in the forwarding address field. Enabling masked, or stealth forwarding will cloak your .Mac url in the browser, and only your GoDaddy Domain name will appear. Save your changes.
As far as I know from reading the relevant threads on GoDaddy, the forwarding problems were resolved some time ago.

  • Page load hiccup - Godaddy masked forwarding

    Hello everybody,
I'm experiencing an issue with one of my iWeb sites that I have not seen in any of my other sites, and I don't really know where to start in trying to fix it. I have several domain names registered with Godaddy, all forwarded to sites hosted through .Mac, some masked, some not.
One of my masked sites is often not loading at the first attempt. The address bar in Safari fills up with blue while it's loading, then turns white but the page remains entirely blank. If I put the cursor behind the address and hit enter again, it loads fine. What is that all about? Anyone else seeing this? Any idea how to fix it? It would be annoying enough if it was just a personal site but my plan is to actually try and make some $$ with this one, and I don't want people to go to my site only to think nothing is there.
    The direct .Mac url is:
    http://web.mac.com/mousie/iWeb/Site4/Home.html
The domain name I registered at Godaddy is:
    http://www.workthatphoto.com
...and I am forwarding that to:
    http://web.mac.com/mousie/iWeb/Site4
I took off the Home.html portion to see if that would fix it after reading another non-related post where that was offered as a possible solution to a different problem. Didn't make a difference though.
It seems to happen most frequently when I first start Safari, any subsequent attempts to go to the site work fine. I am not 100% sure if it happens in other browsers too, but I believe it does. I just can't make it happen right this minute (of course!).
Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello An!
I use GoDaddy masked domain forwarding as well, and I have noticed the behavior that you describe with my own domain name: http://www.dirtdoog.com Try it out and see if it happens to you.
I also clicked on your domain name and the first time got the blank page. Subsequent reloading yielded your .Mac page as expected. I then tried my own domain name and actually got the blank page for a second and then my .mac page showed up as expected.
Then I emptied Safari's browser cache, quit Safari, relaunched Safari, emptied the cache again, then reloaded both of our domain names. No blank pages at all with immediate forwarding to the target URLs! Interesting.
I don't know what is going on really. It seems like it might be a Safari issue. I've never seen the issue when using FireFox. I also just loaded your domain name in FireFox and your iWeb page popped right up....no problem.

  • I have a new mac and my old mac had my photos on it how can I get my photos onto iPhoto without using a external drive or flash drive?

My dad put a new mac in and the old Mac had my photos on it, and I checked iPhoto after it the new computer was plugged in and there was no photos in it, and my dad said that they should be in there but they aren't, so is there a way to get my photos onto the new Mac without the old one and without an external or flash drive? Because a lot of my photos I don't have on my camera because the memory card was full and the pictures that I had already had been on the old mac....
    Thanks!

Have your dad post de what happened - you need to be at least 13 o se these forums and we need to be able to understand what you are asking
the basic answer to moving photos is Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.  but you say you do not have the old computer
Unless  you have a backup or there is more information the answer is there s no way now

  • Mac Os 10.6.8 Crash and video freeze, Mac Pro

    Hi,
I just installed Mac OS 10.6 on my old Mac Pro, early 2009 (8 gib of Ram installed). I still have my old Mac OS10.5.8 on another internal boothable disk.
It went well the first day or so but now I'm experiencing some major video problems: picture of the desktop keeps freezing, videos are crashing in Firefox 30 with Flash 14 plugin, etc. I have 2 internal identical video cards and 2 separate monitors (NVIDIA-GT120). Here is a picture of what's happening:
I have installed upgrade for FireFox and Flash Player plugin 14.
I've tried to deactivate Flash option for "Accelerated": nothing is changing, the problem is still there.
Everytime a have a window that I move from one monitor to another smear and freeze all over on both monitors.
I have QuickTime 7 and QuickTime for mac OS 10.6. I want to keep my older version because I have Quicktime Pro.
Where should I start, I'm no expert, thank you in advance to explain it  to me in a simple manner if you answer to that post.
    Please help,
    Thank's!

Thank you for answering so promptly,
I already made a backup with TimeMachine of my new and original files of Mac OS 10.6 system.
May I point out that I've just installed Mac Os 10.6 as an upgrade of  Mac OS, from 10.5. I have now Mac OS 10.5 on one boothing disk and Mac Os 10.6 on another boothing disk. I can wether rebooth on one or the other. I upgraded to my new Os from a clone copy of 10.5 to 10.6 on a different disk: I'm aware that my new Mac OS may be not be as clean as it should be.
I also did all the operations you where mentionning such as disconnecting all non essential peripherals (even my main monitor) then power it up again. I also reboothed in "Safe Mode" and started again in normal mode afterwards. I've even zapped the "P RAM". I even did a "Repair Permissions with "Dislk Utilities". Nothing of that nature have resolved the various issues that I metionned in my previous Post.
"Isolating an issue by using another user account"
Thank you for the link, I shall read it carefully and thoroughly. Yes, I have tried to logged-in as a new user before your Post. I  think this solution helped afterwards.
I don't use these options often, I'm the only user and I'm not that familiar with all these options. I've tried to share some folders or files and also tried to setup an automatic password but I was not that very succesfull. As this article is mentionning: the main idea is to "check if  the Mac OS is behaving as expected" in a new user account.
The answer to that is a positive "yes" and I did regain a better control of my Mac OS new system afterwards.
I did not understand at first your expression "If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work". Reading a little about it, I think it has to do with an "iCloud feature to set up a network of Mac computers that you cant then access remotely". I don't have an iCloud connection/account installed/set-up. I only expremimented with that option once or twice many years ago with my iPod so, I,m not familiar with that option.
"Deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer"
Since I'm not a newbie on the Mac, I know how "Third Party's Applications/utilities" may really mess up an OS and make it behave in unusual ways sometime... I did find some of them installed in the menu that where messing up my new Mac OS. I deleted/deactivated them completly and reinstalled them one by one, carefully reboothing my Mac between each new installation. Some upgrades where installed for some.
Question about User Account vs. System's Files
Can I delete certain presets and/or preference files only stored in my "User Account" but should I never do this with files stored in the "System Folder" or the "Main Library"? Sorry, I'm an "Older Guy" and I'm used to older versions of Macs... Thank you for suggesting any good updated documentation on that matter.
Which Quicktime to use with mac OS 10.6: 7.6.6 or 7.7?
This is not clear at all on Apple's Web Site. I've downloaded and installed both. Maybe this is my problem. I wish Apple would more clear about it for those like me who want to use Quicktime Pro: 7.6.6 for Mac Os 10.6 and 7.7 for Mac Os 10.5???
    As for now...
My system is behaving better and it' also much more stable now, thank you! All the suggested steps have been made to to resolve certain issues.
    But not all...
I've still have the problem with QuickTime 7 and Flash 14 plugin when I browse and watch certain videos on the Web after a certain time. It's still very annoying when it's starts: I get an all smeared up display of my desktop afterwards (as shown in the above example in my first post). Restarting my Mac resolve's it for a a while only... It seem's that there's a problem with the Video Ram stored when Quicktime/Flash 14 are used? They freeze the System's process who is trying to erase the old data and prevent's it to replace/refresh it with new data on screen...
Thank you for your time and looking forward to read you,

  • Forwarding to .mac

I have email addresses at a company called Fusemail.com and forward those emails to my mac account. However, as of a few days ago, those forwarded emails have stopped coming. I checked with Fusemail and they're service is working fine. I then tried forwarding to a Gmail account and the emails came through immediately. I can only conclude that the problem lies within the mac account and that, for some reason, they have stopped accepting those forwarded emails. Can anyone please shed some light on this? Thanks.

Sounds like they might be in your spam filter?
Incidentally, Fusemail is great, I'd forward your .mac to them instead of the other way around. It can do a LOT more.

  • Is there a URL equivalent of backward and forward?

I was wondering if there special URLs that are the equivalent to backward/forward. My backward and forward work fine and I know about Alt-LeftArrow and Alt-RightArrow.
I am asking if there is something that can be typed into the URL bar that is the equivalent of these.

In few words, "No." There is no such client for the Mac. The closest you may find would be to try the Mac MSN client, aMSN - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - but it's essentially just a messenger clone. I doubt it includes a Live Mail client.
(Please don't suggest changing email accounts - I've asked this question elsewhere and that was the only response I got!)
Because there is no other response.

  • When I opened iweb it opened as a file I deleated. I have a published website with godaddy and would like to update. How can I open the existing iWeb app to the site that is already published?

When I opened iweb it opened as a file I deleated. I have a published website with godaddy and would like to update. How can I open the existing iWeb app to the site that is already published?

You cannot retrieve the already published site as iWeb CANNOT open it - it has no import facility.
You need your domain.sites file, which you can find under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.  You do not need any kind of account for this because it is your domain.sites file that resides on the hard drive of your Mac anyway.  Find this file and you can alter your website.
Use a spotlight search to try and find it and if this does not work you can download something called Find Any File.  If you really can't find it, then you'll have to start from scratch because iWeb cannot open a site that is already published.

  • Why is 'pg up/pg down' now moving the page back and forward, not scrolling like it used to?

I just updated to Firefox 4, and suddenly my 'pg up' and 'pg dn' are different. Instead of scrolling up and down like normal, they change the page to the previous page or go forward to the next.
This is really infuriating, because I use paging up and down all the time, and suddenly I don't have these functions any more. I don't want to be scrolling back and forward between web pages just by pressing one button - I can click the 'back' option at the top of the page easily enough if thats what I want.
I've had a look through the options, and searched through all the faqs, but I couldn't find anything relevant.
Please help - I want my scrolling back!

On Mac the scroll bars can be hidden and only have them show when you scroll the page so you can see the current scroll position.
The idea is that a touch pad is used that doesn't require the scroll bars to be visible and thus have more screen estate for the browsing area.
You can make the scroll bars always visible:
*System Preferences > General > Show Scroll Bar > Choose "Always"

  • Forwarding from Mac mail to iPhone images not displaying

When Forwarding from my iMac mail to my iPhone, the images are not displaying on the iPhone.
If I save the image from the email I wish to forward, in mac mail, then attach it to a new email and send it to the iPhone it displays perfectly!
Any ideas as to why? Maybe another bug?

I tried that. It does not work for me. I get a few books to appear from iTunes into iBooks. Getting them into iBooks on the Mac has never been the problem There are lots of way to do that. The problem is, they STILL not not sync with my iPad. And now they are gone from iTunes so i am not sure what is going to happen the next time I try to sync the iPad with iTunes. Luckily I have a Time Capsule backup so I can restore if I have to.
I guess the bottom line, based on several other threads, is the only solution is to kill iBooks, move it to an obscure corner of your Launch Pad (since you can't totally delete it) and go buy an third party app that will work. Apple has release several updates to Mavericks, and so far there is nothing on the horizon about restoring any of the sync ability that Mavericks took away - iTunes sync wirelessly with the iPad and iPhone, or, like here, iBooks syncing across Apple platforms.

  • Back and forward arrows vanished.

I just opened Safari and for what ever reason the back and forward arrows next to the refresh button are not there and I cannot find a setting or something to switch them back on. I didn't turn them off (if thats possible), so how did it happen? How can I fix it and keep it from happening again?

    Hello,
In Safari, your Toolbar can be customized to your desire. It sounds like you by mistake removed the Back/Forward button or it is possible that the preference file is somehow corrupted. Anyway, by holding down the control key, you can individually remove an item from the toolbar. So, I assume that is how it was removed. To add the Back/Forward button, open "Customize Address Bar" via the View drop-down menu. Simply drag the arrows onto your toolbar in the location of your choice and press "Done". When you quit Safari and relaunch, the Back/Forward button should still be present. If it does not stay on the bar, do let me know. I hope this helps!

  • Now that iPad has multitasking gestures, why don't they just add a gesture for going back and forward in safari?

Now that iPad has multitasking gestures, why don't they just add a gesture for going back and forward in safari? Just like in a mac, with the multitouch gestures. The osx Lion got the launchpad idea from the ios, so why don't the ios gets something from osx?

The home screen is the screen that shows all of your app icons. You can have one home screen or up to 11 home screens depending on how many apps you have. The home screen on an iPad is the equivalent of the desktop screen on a computer. If you are using an app, just tap the home button once to return to a home screen.
This is is a (my) home screen.

three finger or two finger gesture to move back and forward between pages of file only work on safari, unlike with old os. this new lion won't let me do it. Any help?

I have decided to dedicate this thread to the wonderful errors of Lion OSX. Each time I find a huge problem with Lion I will make note of it here.
Today I discovered a new treasure of doggie poop in Lion. No Save As......
I repeat. No Save As. In text editor I couldn't save the file with a new extension. I finally accomplished this oh so majorly difficult task (because we all know how difficult it should be to save a file with a new extension) by pressing duplicate and then saving a copy of the file with a new extension. Yet then I had to delete the first copy and send it to trash. And of course then I have to secure empty trash because if I have to do this the rest of my mac's life I will be taking up a quarter of percentage of space with duplicate files. So this is the real reason they got rid of Save As: so that it would garble up some extra GB on the ole hard disk.
So about 20 minutes of my time were wasted while doing my homework and studying for an exam because I had to look up "how to save a file with a new extension in  mac Lion" and then wasted time sitting here and ranting on this forum until someone over at Apple wakes up from their OSX-coma.
are you freaking kidding me Apple? I mean REALLY?!!!! who the heck designed this?!!! I want to know. I want his or her name and I want to sit down with them and have a long chat. and then I'd probably splash cold water on their face to wake them up.
I am starting to believe that Apple is Satan.

  • Mail reply and forwarding not working

After using Mail for three years, suddenly the reply and forwarding functions do not work. The replies and forwards are in the Sent mail but do not reach the recipients.
I spoke to Mac support about 10 days ago and we created a new acct. and imported the emails. Things worked for awhile, but the same problem has started again.
When I use my Comcast web mail the replies and forwards do work.
    No trouble receiving mail.
