GoDaddy domain name to MobileMe

I found this tutorial today which worked perfectly for me in transferring the domain name I purchased from GoDaddy to my MobileMe account. Note: GoDaddy has added a DNS Manager which changed a few of the directions at the end of this tutorial but not enough that they can't be followed.
http://www.maximizeurmac.com/2010/05/04/mobileme-tutorial-part-2-redirecting-you r-godaddy-domain-hosting-ur-own-website/
Now to see if I have problems with updating the site.
And to getting the domain.com to redirect to www.domain.com.

@jill120
Came across your post in regards to setting up your Go Daddy domain name with MobileMe. Here is a link to the help article we have on our site: http://x.co/SQtl. After you modify the www CNAME, make sure you forward the domain to www.yourdomain.com, rather than yourdomain.com.
Hopefully this helps!

  • IWeb - pointing domain name to MobileMe host

Hi - I have been working to direct a domain name purchased through godaddy (mygodaddydomainname.com) to my mobileme website (web.me.com/myname/myblogblogname), where I'm publishing a page using iweb.
The goal is for someone to look under the (mygodaddydomainname.com) name and see the site built with iWeb and hosted at (web.me.com/myname/myblogblogname).
You would think it was simple but I am having difficulties.
I followed the cname instructions in support at Apple & at GoDaddy but it isn't working. Does anyone have any good ideas?
    Gratefully,
    Lillian

This Apple document tells how to configure your MMe account for CNAME forwarding: Setting up MobileMe to use a personal domain name. Then follow GoDaddy's instructions for their end.
If you don't want to use CNAME forwarding but just the standard forwarding you don't need to do anything on MobileMe's end. At GoDaddy it will look this this:
You can either choose with masking or not. Masking will only display mygodaddydomainname.com in the URL window of each page. The downside to that is that visitors can only bookmark the first page of your site. That may or may not be a problem with your site. My tutorial site is set up that way: http://toadstutorials.info.

  • Looking for the most econmical way of tying domain name to mobileme iweb

Hi all, I currently have a few sites that are hosted on mobileme, and I used the DynDNS services to 1) register a domain name (15$) and 2) create a webhop (CNAME) from the domain to the mobileme site (30$). So that's 45$ per year per site. Is there a more economical way of doing the same thing (without running my own server)? I have a handful of brochure sites to post, and I am looking to cut costs. Thx!!!
    coocoo

No. Look at GoDaddy and see and I think that you will find that what OT has said is correct.
If you purchase a domain name from them, depending on what ending it is - .com, .co.uk, .net etc, then you just pay for the cost of the registration for one year or two years, which does work out at $7.95 per YEAR depending on the domain name you get and this will be excluding any hosting or e-mail packages. E-mail does cost extra though.
If you just register your domain name, then you can use CNAME forwarding or web forwarding at no extra cost. So none of this adding $29 for the privilege of using CNAME forwarding - GoDaddy does not do this and you get it when you register your domain name.
Once you have the domain name registered, all you do is set up a new CNAME and point the 'www' part of your domain to web.me.com which is your MobileMe host and it will be forwarded to your site.
I use GoDaddy myself and have no problems whatsoever.
If you have one MobileMe account, then you have the option of entering a domain name into the Personal Domain Name settings - you can do this once for every MobileMe account and can then use CNAME forwarding at your domain registrar to forward your domain name to your MobileMe account.
However, you can still publish as many sites as you like to MobileMe, but your url will be http://web.me.com/username/sitename, unless you then use masked or unmasked web forwarding to link your domain name to it if you wish.

  • More than one domain name on mobileme

I have made two websites with iweb which I have hosted on my MobileMe account. I bought one domain name from godaddy to link with my first site and this worked well, however when I bough a second name for the other web site I encountered lots of problems, I could link the site but no include the www and then was confronted with the sign in form although I have not ticked the 'make my site private box'
Will MobileMe only except one domain name, if so I will have to try and find another hosting site.

You can have only one domainname with Personal Domain at MobileMe. To use the other one you have to enable URL forwarding, with or without masking where you host your domainname.
There's [a forum dedicated to MobileMe, Personal Domain and iWeb|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1163] where these questions are asked and answered daily.
All your pages on MMe are accessible by that domainname and by the web.me.com/username address.
Configuring a domainname is beyond iWeb.

  • Error message when publishing to MobilMe using GoDaddy domain name

    Hi all,
I am trying to publish my site from iWeb '09 to MobilMe. I am using a domain name purchased through GoDaddy. When I publish the entire site in iWeb, it seems to publish fine, but when I click to "visit site", I get a page with an error message, "Looking for something on MobileMe?
The account you requested doesn't exist or is currently inactive. Please make sure the URL is spelled and capitalized correctly, and try again.
MobileMe Login | MobileMe Support | Learn more…
I have checked my login info, etc. I have no idea why this isn't working. Any thoughts???
    Thanks so much - Chris

That Vist button has been a problem for others also. Why, I don't know. Try using the File ➙ Visit Published Site menu option. That has worked for me when the Visit button wouldn't.
If that menu option works you can try the following to see if you can get the Visit button to work:
    1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and try again.

  • Having trouble setting new domain name in business catalyst

    Hello,
I'm having problems setting up my site to go live. Here's what I've done so far:
    1) built the site and pushed it live
    2) upgraded the site
    3) set up a GoDaddy domain name
    4) set up the servers on GoDaddy
    5) set up the associate account info on BC
    And then.... nothing.
I've then deleted the domain and tried to repeat the process, in case I missed something, but now I can't set up a new domaine and keep getting the error "Domain already exists. Please delete all records associated with this domain". What records? What does this even mean?
Can someone please walk me through the steps to get this site live?
    Thanks!
    Darin

    Hi Aish,
I'm still having no luck with the site. I've triple-checked and everything is correct on the GoDaddy end. I'm attaching a screenshot of with BC portal, so you can see where I'm at. I somehow ended up with duplicate domains and I have no idea which one to delete. Also, I can't seem to enter anything for the A records, C name records, etc. Is there anything at all that support can do to get this thing up and running? It's been close to a week since I upgraded the site. Please advise.
    Thanks,

  • Creating the default personal domain name to iWeb from Wordpress.

I have a wordpress blog (that I do not want to use) that also serves as the administrator for my domain name and I am trying to get iWeb to be the default home page and not the Wordpress blog. I have changed [edited in Custom DNS Records] the DNS protocol at Wordpress to "CNAME blog web.me.com." and also configured the personal domain in MobileMe to reflect my domain name.
So far I am not having any success with the online instructions and cannot seem to find any further information on how to make iWeb the home page.
Am I missing some steps here?
Anyone have any insight into setting up iWeb with a personal domain, specificially with Wordpress as the domain administrator?
    Thank you!

The first step is to configure your personal domain name in MobileMe which you have done.
You then need to go and alter your DNS records and what you want to do is create a new CNAME and direct this to web.me.com and that is it.  Your domain name will be your alias and web.me.com will be your host and as long as your site is published to MobileMe, then your domain name should point to your host at MobileMe.
I don't know why you have blog in there under your CNAME?  All you need is a new CNAME that points to web.me.com and nothing else and that should work.
Also, rather than changing back to MobileMe from WordPress, why not invest your time and energies into finding a new and alternative hosting company?  You don't have long with MobileMe and you do realise that it will be gone at the end of June, so perhaps now would be a good time to look at the alternatives?

  • Iweb website wont go on domain name

i purchased a domain name from network solutions, and made my iweb website, which i will be hosting with mpbileme.
i then changed the CNAME (alias) to web.me.com on www, and followed all the instructions, howevermy website has not been uploaded to the domain name i paid for. It is, however on my mobileme web adress.
    any help please?
    what am i doing wrong?

I am confused too. The question I want to ask is:
    1. Why when you have uploaded your website directly to your server using ftp are you also publishing to MobileMe and using CNAME forwarding too? You do not need to do both.
    2. Also, as you have already found out, your blog comments will not work and neither will the MME page counter if you upload to an external server. However, there are third party workarounds such as http://www.hitcounter.com and also using a Wordpress blog instead and linking to it from your site. If you have hosting at Network Solutions, then you can probably install Wordpress directly and can set up your blog like this.
    3. When I used MobileMe and used CNAME what I had to do at my domain name registrar was delete the A records completely. There are normally two A records, one with www, A record and then the IP address that points to your server and then @, A record with an IP address that points to your server. What I had to do was to delete the A records completely and then enter www, then CNAME from a drop down box and web.me.com into where the IP address was. I then entered @, CNAME from the drop down menu and then web.me.com where the IP address was. Try and have a look and see if you can do this.
http://domain.com is your actual domain name with http://www.domain.com being a sub domain. That is why you need to enter both www and @ when you set up a new CNAME - www represents the sub domain with @ being the shortened domain name itself.
If Network Solutions have told you to enter web instead of www, then try this, but you still need to alter the IP address that is there and enter web.me.com in its place or the domain name will not be forwarded.
You also need to do the same for the @, so do this and then forward this to web.me.com.
Your problem with using CNAME is that you have a conflict in that you have uploaded your site to the server as well as trying to forward your domain name to MobileMe - you can use one or the other but you can't have both. Preferably, I would delete your site from your server and just use CNAME forwarding to MobileMe if you want the Blog and hit counter to work correctly.

  • IWeb transfer to another domain name?

I recently purchased a .com name..........from another server.
I would like to transfer my iWeb page to this server but am really getting confused.  Is there a simple tutorial or way to do this?  I have printed out the tutorial from iWeb and lso from the server, but when it comes down to CNAME, MX Record, A Record, NS Record..........help?
    Thank you.

If you have published your site to MobileMe, then you DO NOT need to use ftp in any way shape or form.  FTP is only needed if you are uploading your site directly to a hosting account, which you have now said that you do not have, just the domain name.
Also, you ARE NOT trying to forward MobileMe to your domain name - it is the other way around - what you will do if forward your domain name to MobileMe where you site is published.
    1.  Log in to your MobileMe account under System Preferences and go to where is has Personal Domain on the left hand side and click on this and then where it has enable your domain name, simply enter your domain name here and it will then tell you to go to your domain name registrar and set up CNAME forwarding.
    2.  Go to where you domain name is (your domain name registrar) and log into your account there and then go to the DNS settings and set up CNAME forwarding.
If you have A records, then you need to delete these and set up 2 new CNAME's, one for www and one for @. The www represents your sub domain, which is http://www.domain.com and then the @ represents your domain name itself which is http://domain.com.
Set up CNAME forwarding for both these so it should look something like this:
    www CNAME web.me.com
    @ CNAME web.me.com
This is all you need do and your site should then work.
You might have got the correct help here faster if you had stated from the start that you were actually publishing your site to MobileMe.
Also remember, that MobileMe will no longer be here next year, so you will need to get a hosting account from another company, preferably the same company that your domain name is registered with.

  • Problem with iWeb after associating a personal domain name with my MobileMe

I think I did this by the book. I associated my personal domain name with my MobileMe account, then changed the CName pointer at GoDaddy to MobileMe (MM), then went back to MM and hit 'Done'. iWeb now lists my MM account as 'My account name (personal domain name). It took a little while for the DNS pointer to propogate, but now I can go to a browser, type in my personal domain name, and MM delivers my iWeb website as I wanted it to, apparently from my domain, not web.me.com. The problem is, as soon as the DNS propogated, MM delivers my MM site OK, but iWeb can't find the files for it anymore. All my pages immediately went red (unpublished) when I tried to update the site, and any attempt to Publish gives me this error "iWeb couldn’t connect to MobileMe. Make sure your Internet connection works and try again." I'm cable connected to an ADSL router, and Airport connected to a cable router, and neither service has dropped out. I've rebooted, and retried, and the website is up under my own domain, so GoDaddy and MM both got it right. What did I do wrong? Thanks, someone... anyone?

This is now sort of resolved, but not very satisfactorily. One of the trainers at my local Appple Store found an old support issue in the archives going back to 2008, which blamed security settings for update problems. Coincidental with associating MobileMe with my personal domain, I had checked the privacy box and added an ID and PW to the site. That was the problem, not the personal domain, that was preventing iWeb from finding my MM account. Uncheck that box and my site happily updates. Of course, now I have a site that I cannot make private. In this case, not a show-stopper, but disappointing. I have reported it as a bug in the latest version of iWeb. Thanks for your help.

  • Changing MobileMe Accounts for Domain Name

Need some verification on this procedure before I mess up my web page.
I have a Web site Domain Name with GoDaddy using my son's Mobileme account. I want to change the Domain name to my mobileme account.
My plan is to remove the domain name on my son's Personal Domain and then adding it to my Personal Domain on my Mobileme Account.
Is this all I have to do? No changes to the GoDaddy account?

I completed the switch from one MM account to the other with no problem. Just removed the site from one & added it to the other & everything worked great.

  • With MobileMe Closed: How to forward iweb "web.me..." address to new FTP site and custom domain name?

I had a mobile me "web.me.com..." domain name and know I need to upload to a new FTP site with a new domain.  I know how to do that but am wondering...
Is there a way to forward my old web.me address to the new domain?  I'll probably be using GoDaddy's or 1&1 domain hosting.
There are many people who have my old web.me address and I won't be able to tell them the new address.  I don't want them to go away if they see the "mobile me closed" page and don't know where my new site is at.  I just want it to automatically forward.
    thanks

Its too late to do that as the forward would need to be on the Apple server and its closed now.
