GoDaddy & MobileMe

Hello:
I have a personal domain name listed with GoDaddy. Its forwarded thru my iWeb site.
Now my iWeb site does not show up using the personal domain name. It shows up under the one I prefer not to use.
I assume this is a result of the change from .Mac to MobileMe.
Does this mean I need forward my personal domain again with GoDaddy?
Or will this be resolved as Apple works the kinks out of MobileMe?
Thanks.

Just fyi: I have a domain name with GoDaddy and just set up to publish from iWeb to a GoDaddy host site. Downloading the software Fetch will help those with Leopard to transfer the files from iWeb to the host site. It worked like a charm - couldn't believe how easy it was. Someone at GoDaddy helped me set up everything by phone. These 2 articles might be of help:
http://fetchsoftworks.com/FetchWebHelp/Contents/Tutorial/TutorialUploadingWeb.ht ml
http://fetchsoftworks.com/FetchWebHelp/Contents/Tutorial/UsingFetchWithiWeb.html
We are not advised to use the file manager on GoDaddy - Fetch is for Macs mostly and is recommended - although other ftp clients do the job as well.
Good luck!

  • Iweb, mobileme, and godaddy HELP!

I purchased a domain from godaddy.com, designed the website on iweb '09, and have chosen to host the site through mobileme.
After an initial CNAME error on my part, I have been assured by godaddy reps that everything is correct on their end. I have set up the personal domain on my mobileme account, and have published the site from iweb '09 to mobileme. I have waited for the site to propogate onto godaddy servers, and the website is not pulling up. I get an error message that states that the website is temporarily unavailable. I tried republishing through iweb, and nothing seems to help.
My mobileme account is not set to private, and all of the mobileme information is showing correctly.
What do I do to fix this--fast?
    Thanks!

Thanks for your help. I spent 4 hours yesterday at my local apple store to see if anyone had additional ideas, and finally a representative deleted the site from my iweb and had me create a new user on my mac. I set up the site through iweb under the new user, but we were still having issues, so we went into godaddy and changed the url forwarding and then masked the site. It was the only solution that worked, and I am thrilled that the site is up and working. I had followed all of the godaddy instructions on the site, and so did the apple reps, (we were troubleshooting mobileme, iweb and godaddy simultaneously) but nothing provided by the godaddy site or godaddy representatives worked. It was just a long process of trial by error that eventually brought us to a solution.
Thank you, everyone for your suggestions, and please know that I tried each one--multiple times. I truly appreciate the help.

What's the format of your video? That will give you a hint as to what plugin is failing (or missing).
If you don't know, what's the URL of your site - it shouldn't take long for someone to work out the specifics.

  • GoDaddy domain name to MobileMe

I found this tutorial today which worked perfectly for me in transferring the domain name I purchased from GoDaddy to my MobileMe account. Note: GoDaddy has added a DNS Manager which changed a few of the directions at the end of this tutorial but not enough that they can't be followed.

And to getting the domain.com to redirect to www.domain.com.

    @jill120
Came across your post in regards to setting up your Go Daddy domain name with MobileMe. Here is a link to the help article we have on our site: http://x.co/SQtl. After you modify the www CNAME, make sure you forward the domain to www.yourdomain.com, rather than yourdomain.com.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Move Podcast from MobileMe to GoDaddy

I know similar questions like this have already been asked.  I've read the various discussion and answers.  I think I know what I need to do, but I want to confirm it here on the boards.  A mistake could very well cost me listeners.
I have moved my site (created with iWeb) from MobileMe to GoDaddy.  Both sites are still live.  Now, I want to change the RSS code on my MM site to point subscriptions to the GD site.  Here is what I understand (thanks to reading Roger Wilmut's info at http://www.wilmut.webspace.virginmedia.com/notes/podcast.html#move):
    1.  In the RSS code (MM site), I need to add the following line of code: <itunes:new-feed-url>NEW URL FOR YOUR FEED</itunes:new-feed-url>
    2.  This code needs to be added between the "channel" tag the first "item" tag.  My first question is: should it be right below the channel and BEFORE the <title> info?
    3.  Now, here is the big question: what exactly should I put in for the NEW URL?  My MM and GD site / podcast information is below.
    MOBILEME SITE: http://web.me.com/markandjill/SW_Miniverse/Welcome.html
    MOBILEME PODCAST: http://web.me.com/markandjill/SW_Miniverse/Star_Wars_Miniverse/Star_Wars_Miniver se.html
    GODADDY SITE: http://www.swminiverse.com
    GODADDY POSCAST: http://www.swminiverse.com/SW_Miniverse/Star_Wars_Miniverse/Star_Wars_Miniverse. html
Any help is greatly appreciated!!  I think I know what to enter for the NEW URL, but I want to make sure I don't make a mistake.  Thank you!

I'm glad you checked, because it looks as if you were about to paint yourself into a corner. You've quoted the web pages for the two versions of the podcast: what matters are the feeds.
The original, MobileMe, feed is at
    http://web.me.com/markandjill/SW_Miniverse/Star_Wars_Miniverse/rss.xml
    The Godaddy feed is at
    http://www.swminiverse.com/SW_Miniverse/Star_Wars_Miniverse/rss.xml
Since iWeb doesn' provide for adding the tag, you are going to do it manually. Please follow these instructions very carefully.
Mount your iDisk on the Desktop (command-shift-i). Open the Web folder, then within that the Sites, folder, then the markandjill folder, then the SW_Miniverse folder, then the Star_Wars_Miniverse folder and locate the rss.xml file. Drag this to the Desktop to download it.
Now open this file in Text edit in PLAIN TEXT mode (not Rich Text which is often the default). Three lines down you will see the <channel> tag. Make a new line beneath this, reading:
    <itunes:new-feed-url>http://www.swminiverse.com/SW_Miniverse/Star_Wars_Miniverse/rss.xml</itunes:new-feed-url>
All one line, no returns within it, and I should copy this line to make sure you get it absolutely right.
Save the file as rss.xml - TextEdit will offer to add .txt on the end - don't allow this.
Drag the file to the Star_Wars_Miniverse folder on the iDisk, replacing the existing one. Leave it severely alone for at least two weeks. Do not publish anything from iWeb to the iDisk or you will over-write it.
You can check that it's worked; go to your iTunes Store page at
    http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/star-wars-miniverse/id326698031
Click the Subscribe button below the image. Go to the Podcasts section: control-click on the line with the podcast name (not an episode) and choose 'Copy Podcast URL'. Paste this into TextEdit - you should see the GoDaddy URL. It will take the Store page a few days to catch up. Subscribers will be automatically redirected to the new feed.

  • Website function lost in mobileme to godaddy transfer

hi, i did a website using iweb, that, when hosted by mobileme, allowed readers to post comments and pictures on a number of blog-like pages.  now that mobileme's no longer hosting websites, i changed to godaddy, and all the comments disappeared, and readers can no longer add comments to the website.  is there a way to get the comments back (i can actually still find them, but not at the new godaddy address), and to enable readers to add comments again?
    the website is:
    http://bicycletouringoncarfreepaths.org/www.Bicycletouringoncarfreepaths.org/Wel come.html
    thanks a lot, jeff

Regarding your blog: the only hope for keeping your visitor comments is to try the Convert Your iWeb Blog to a WordPress Blog | iWeb to WordPress for Mac OS X application offered by Rage Software. However, one user reported having a lot of problems with it and when contacting Rage was told it was going to be withdrawn till fixed.  As you can see from the link it hasn't so you'll have to proceed are your own risk.  Obviously some users have been successful because these forums have had only one posting of such failure.
Generally speaking about iWeb as you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
NOTE: the iLife 11 boxed version Is no longer available at the online Apple Store.  To get a copy you'll have to try Amazon.com or eBay.com.

  • Moving website hosting from MobileMe to Godaddy... how to?

    Greetings!
I recently created a website using iWeb and hosted it on MobileMe using my Godaddy domain.
I am interested in moving the hosting abilities to the new hosting I purchased on GoDaddy. So far, I have changed most of the settings, I will try and list them all below. The issue I am having is that I publish the entire site (I know it takes some time to reflect) but when I visit the site, I expect to see the stock GoDaddy page without my site for the time being, but what I see is a link to MobileMe.
    I changed:
The CNAME from www.me.com or whatever it was to the GoDaddy specs.
The CNAME alias from www.me.com to the @ sign like it requests. Under DNS manager
I just removed the forwarding to www.me.com or mobileme (cant remember -- in any event I removed it) so maybe that will fix it.
Should I have the nameservers set to a hosting account with these domains (which I assume links to my godaddy hosting and domain I purchased) or should I use the specific nameservers that godaddy specified based on the date I purchased the domain -- NS01.DOMAINCONTROL.COM and NS02.DOMAINCONTROL.COM?
Any other thoughts on changes I need to make on the GoDaddy side to complete the transition? Thank you for the feedback!

Its bizarre when I upload the entire site using the option to Publish the Entire Site in iWeb 09, it lets me visit the site and it shows up. But when I go to firefox to try and get to it, it redirects me to MobileMe.
I upload it by logging all of the information on iWeb. Server address, user name (godaddy), password, etc... all of it correct, and the click FILE>Publish Entire Site.
I see now that the name servers option has been clicked on the one indicating a specific nameserver hosted by GoDaddy, which is the option I believe you were having me select. It has been that way overnight, so it never changed.
I am at a loss here why it would show up once, and then redirect me back to mobileme. I removed the forwarding to web.me.com and deleted the domain from my mobileme account too!

  • IWeb Publishing issues MobileMe/iCloud/GoDaddy Updates

    Hello -
I am hoping someone can provide me some insight.
I previously created a website via iWeb and had it hosted via my MobileMe account.  With the new IOS and iCloud updates (and being that I can no longer host through MobileMe), I have transfered hosting over to GoDaddy.  I logged into MobileMe and deleted the domain, and have ensured everything is correct on the GoDaddy side of things (DNS nameservers, deletion of the old site/file folders, etc.).
    Here is the current issue:
I am receiving this message when attempting to pull up the site:  "To view this page, you must log in to area “me.com” on melissafoerster.com:80."
I am confused and am not sure what else I need to do to publish my revised site.  Thank you for your help.

    Thank you for your support.
I have disabled the personal domain via MobileMe.
I have deleted the CNAME record via the domain provider.
And am currently waiting for the changes.
I know that this is not an iWeb issue or an iCloud issue.  I will say though that because my MobileMe account expires in June and because the MobileMe settings have changed with the iCloud addition, I will no longer be able to publish there as of June and currently cannot make changes.  Just being proactive and making updates to my site now, makes me have to publish to a different provider.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Will I lose our subscribers if I move our podcast from Mobileme to GoDaddy?

We currently publish a podcast to Mobileme. Our podcast has a large number of subscribers that we have built up over the past few years.
Problem is that our podcast is constantly being disabled on Mobileme because we are exceeding bandwidth limits and we need to move to a new hosting company (ie. Godaddy).
If we move to a third party hosting company, will this cause us to lose our current subscribers?
    Can someone please advise?

Thank you for this information. I have read it and still have some questions, as I know virtually nothing about how RSS works.
The instructions say that I should "use the <itunes:new-feed-url> tag described in the iTunes RSS Tags section below. The tag will cause the iTunes Store to be updated with the new feed URL, as well as all iTunes client versions that support podcasting".
    My questions are:
    1. Where can I find my RSS feed? I went into my iDisk > Web > Podcast, where I found a file called "rss.xml". Is this my RSS file? Or should I be looking somewhere else? I use iWeb and don't know where to find it.
    2. To be clear, I am only inserting these words: "<itunes:new-feed-url>" into the RSS feed. Nothing more. I don't need to give the name of new hosting company or anything like that? That being so, how does iTunes find where the media files are located?
    3. How do I upload the new RSS feed? Do I "Publish Site Changes" in iWeb, or does iTunes find the RSS feed all on it's own?
Sorry to sound like sound so ignorant, I just find this very complicated and I don't want to lose our subscribers.

  • Personal Domains, MobileMe and GoDaddy

    Hi everyone,
I have purchased the domain for my personal Portfolio website through GoDaddy,
I followed the online instructions to add the domain to my Iweb through MobileMe, with it all saved whenever I try going onto my site (OllieHoff.co.uk) it just brings me to the Godaddy website. Anyone know where I have gone wrong?
    Thanks!

Well, did you do everything that is needed?  It is not only at MobileMe that you need to make changes.  These need to be done at GoDaddy too.
Also, you don't add the domain to iWeb - iWeb is just what you use to create the site.  You enter the domain name into the personal domain name settings at MobileMe where the site is published.
You then need to log into your account at GoDaddy and go to the DNS settings and you need to set the CNAME to web.me.com and it should then work.
You need to do both because you are effectively linking your domain name at GoDaddy with you website that is published to MobileMe/the Apple servers.

  • RSS feed from MobileMe to GoDaddy

    Hello,
Forgive me for asking this queston late in the game, but I previously made the switch from MobileMe to GoDaddy. Could somebody please confirm my new RSS feed with GoDaddy (or maybe I need assistance confirming my old feed)?
    Is the new feed
    http://www.warbirdshow.com/Warbird_Show/Warbird_Show/rss.xml
    Was my old feed
    http://web.me.com/warbirdshow/warbird_show/warbird_show/rss.xml
I don't do a lot of podcasting, but was trying to successfully transition from MobileMe to GoDaddy and save my 7 podcasts.
I realize I'm asking this late in the game, but any assistnce would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

http://web.me.com/warbirdshow/warbird_show/warbird_show/rss.xml - there is no file at this address.
http://www.warbirdshow.com/Warbird_Show/Warbird_Show/rss.xml - there is a feed at this address.
Your iTunes Store page is http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/warbird-show/id408763490
and it is indeed using the second feed, so you are all OK. Ideally the old feed should have been left in place for two weeks so that any subscribers could be seamlessly redirected when they checked the feed, but it's too late to worry about that. They would be able to re-subscribe from the Store page.

  • Moving Away from GoDaddy or MobileMe?

Although this MacWorld article is mainly written for those who disagree with GoDaddy's policies - and the fact that their CEO goes around killing elephants - it contains a lot of useful info about domain names, what they are and how to transfer them.
This part should be of interest to all those who are being forced to move from MobileMe...
"If you’re moving email or a website along with domain hosting, it is absolutely critical that you have your new hosting service completely set up at the new location before you initiate the DNS host move. This will reduce or eliminate any interruption in receiving email or handling visitors at your site. (For some relatively short period, you maintain your website and email with two different providers; after you make the DNS move, some Internet users may reach you through the old provider, and some through the new during that transition time.)
DNS values are cached by any computer or server that looks up a domain from a period of hours to days. The moment you change a DNS record, you’re in flux as some machines rely on the old, cached information, while others immediately start using the new data."

I have a domain name that I purchased through Go Daddy...
since there seems to be a few different types and packages
look at godaddy's linux web hosting packages, their hosting can be as low as $4/mth.
linux web hosting provides ftp server on server side, which iweb can upload your site to without extra apps - iweb use panic inc's transmit ftp framework for client side ftp.
    stay away from window hosting.

  • IWeb and godaddy and MobileMe

I'm not sure how to reconcile this b/c web design is completely new to me.
I just purchased a domain name on godaddy.com, and need to find a host.
I understand that godaddy.com has a hosting option, but it doesn't appear that it is friendly to Mac users -- can you even use their web design program if you have a Mac?
I have iWeb 08, and would like to use it to design my new site, and I do not have a MobileMe account.
Do I need to get a MobileMe account and use that as the host in order to create a website in iWeb, and then point godaddy to the MobileMe account as the host? Or is it possible to use godaddy as the host and design the site in iWeb?
    Thanks!

Countless Mac users have sites hosted at Godaddy, no problem. The do not use Godaddy's web design program, they use iWeb or some other Mac app.
