Godaddy private hosting question

I was about to register a domain with godaddy. I was going to register a .info. As I went through the checkout process, the site implored me to sign up for private registration for an extra $6.99, otherwise all of my private information would become available online. Obviously, I'm not crazy about that. Does anyone who is here who uses godaddy use the private registration? Is this something that I should use, or am I just being paranoid?
Thanks,
John

I don't use Godaddy but instead use Yahoo Business and when I signed up they offered me the option of checking out with private registration (an extra 10 bucks) or just keep my purchase as it was. Personally I thought about it and decided to go ahead and pay the extra 10 bucks to keep my information private. In the long run it turned out to be better, I receive very little spam in my yahoo inbox, and I have the feeling of insurement that Yahoo will not give my personal information out to third parties without my consent.
But really it is up to you, and if you want to spend the extra $6.99, I would recommend it, as I would imagine you do not want your personal information all over the web, but once again it up to you.

  • Iweb and godaddy to host it

    I am currently using godaddy to host my iweb.
    My website went online fine, but now any updates wont update onto the net.
    I have contacted godaddy who say everything looks fine from their point of view and suggested contacted apple support.
    Any help would be great as I have filled in everything correctly and uttly confused.

    Do you get a message that the upload didn't go thru?  If not what is making you think the updates didn't get posted?
    If it's what you view in your browser clear your browser's cache (Command+Option+E for Safari) and relaod the site.

  • Cannot resolve private host addresses

    Hi,
    I have a MacBookPro (10.5.5) in a Windows Network. After our Primary Domain Controller
    was updated i get a strange error message when i want to view my network neighbourhood.
    The name next to the network icon reads "cannot.resolve.private.host.addresses".
    I googled but I have not found a single resource mentioning this error message.
    I have access to the internet, i can access all shares in the network via command+k but i cannot
    browse the network because of this error.
    what is it? what is it that the mac cannot resolve? where can i look further into resolving this issue?
    thnx very much
    martin

    Problem solved
    It seems that the Mac made a reverse lookup for its own IP-Adress to get its own name.
    Since the new Domain Controller did not have Reverse Lookups enabled the aforementioned problem occured.
    After enabling them everything is working fine now

  • Follow up to .JSP page will not display on GoDaddy Linux hosting

    I think my last post got locked but I wanted to explain my reasoning (I am not trying to abuse a forum). I think forums are filled with wonderful people who may have dealt with similar issues. This is my first Java hosted project so I was just hoping someone had some insight.
    http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10571512#10571512
    I am not trying to use this as a GoDaddy support forum. I have tried calling GoDaddy multiple times and they do not know why it does not work. There response is&hellip; &ldquo;we do not provide support for scripting&rdquo;. Please, correct me if I am wrong here, but the JSP file I am trying to display does not contain any scripting. Is that a true statement?
    To give an update&hellip;
    I logged in this morning and now, the JSP page displays. I was aware that GoDaddy redeploy&rsquo;s Tomcat every night at around 1:00 am Arizona time, but I am not sure why this corrected the issue.
    When I was testing locally, I could place any new JSP files in Tomcat and view it without having to do a redeploy. Why does this work differently on GoDaddy? I am assuming it has something to do with the shared hosting but I am not sure what. Does any one have any insight on this?

    Stop creating OT threads in this forum. Your question isn't related to Java programming at all. Ask the GoDaddy support.
    I'm locking this thread, and your account might get blocked if you continue to create new threads with questions that aren't related to Java.

  • Just one needed particular GoDaddy web hosting account button link gives error in FF but ok in Pale Moon and IE

    Greetings:
    I've searched but am unable to find a clue. Using Win 7 Home Premium (updates current) on HP DV3T-2000 64-bit.
    Recently (possibly after upgrading to FF 14), on godaddy.com on my web hosting product page, clicking the 'Launch' button throws a godaddy error pg. All other launch buttons operate normally, as do 'all' the buttons (including the tricky one) in Pale Moon and IE.
    I have several times cleared the cache and deleted all g-d cookies through options - show cookies; then closed the browser and restarted the machine. I then disabled all add-ons, tried the above again, no difference so have reactivated the plugins (which were and are current as to updates).
    Here is the text from the godaddy error pg:
    "Error
    There was an error in the application. We apologize for the inconvenience. This error has been logged and reported.
    Click here to go back to your account list."
    The word above [Click] 'here' usually does not work either. Below is the url from the address bar: (When going to the url on a clean new tab, the error page pulls up without the 'Click here to go back to your acct list' ):
    https://hostingmanager.secureserver.net/error.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/AccountPanel2.aspx
    (However, people without a g-d acct will not be able to navigate to the web hosting product page.)
    Thank you very much for your help.

    Hi hedera, when you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
    Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
    (You also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
    orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
    On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now")
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first) using either of these. While viewing a page on the site:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    If you can't access the relevant domain without it closing, you can edit the domain at the top of the dialog in order to call up a list of its cookies.
    Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • Godaddy + FTP hosting

    Okay this is going to be a stupidly easy question for someone to answer, but I have my domain through godaddy and am now trying to set up my iweb sited to be hosted via ftp. Where on godaddy would I find the information that I need to host my site. Again I know this is stupidly easy, but I am not tech savvy when it comes to this kind of stuff.

  • Hoping for a little help with registering and hosting questions.

    i was hoping i could get some information from some of you
    that have personal experience with registering your site and
    picking a hosting provider.
    im wondering what the difference is between say....Dot5
    hosting at 5.00 a month and .. network solutions at 29.99 a month?
    my local provider here in sacramento wants 30 a month as
    well......299.oo a yr.
    should I go with a local provider? or go with ... say GoDaddy
    or some other company?
    also, registering. Im about to register my site name.
    however, some companies include it in the "packages" they offer.
    should I register it myself or let the hosting company I choose do
    it?
    sorry for the newb questions....but I cant find any good info
    on this and I was hoping maybe some of you that have already done
    this to chime in.
    thanks in advance.

    If you want almost all of the below features for about $9.00
    a month go to
    Gate.com and pick your package. I use them for several web
    sites and have
    never been dissatisfied with their services or features.
    They will register your domain and I've done it both ways,
    but have never
    had problems with them but it does make a lot of sense to
    register it
    yourself and keep full ownership....

  • Using godaddy to host my iweb (2.0.4) website

    After talking to godaddy, they convinced me that I should have my site hosted by them, Sounded good. They said iweb would work fine. Well, it does not work. I upload the files I created in iweb three times. The first page shows up fine, but the links to the other pages do not work at all. I spent a long time on the phone with them last night and they tell me it must be a problem with iweb and to contact apple. I know what apple is going to say. Can anyone help me with this?
    the site is www.thelba.org
    thanks,
    Joe

    Thanks all for your help! I have corrected the problem. Regarding the hard to read area, that has to be removed all together. I went round and round with godaddy, who are usually very helpful, but because they are using windows machines, and th page was working on IE windows, they could not see the problem!

  • Using Dreamweaver ftp for file upload to host question

    My local site is set up with links relative to the root document.
    The local root folder is defined as J:\xampp\htdocs\rootfilename\
    I have not put anything in the field HTTP Address so it just shows http://
    Once I have defined my remote site in the Dreamweaver setup I still have concerns regarding how dreamweaver will treat some of the links in my  localhost testing environment, I have changed some of the relative links to fully qualified paths such as :
    http://localhost/rootfilename/filename.php
    So my question is when i do the file transfer how does dreamweaver treat these full links, will it change localhost to the new host name, and the root directory name to the root directory name automatically for me (obviously after i have defined them in the remote site setup)?
    And what about my file path names such as my includes files which I have had to make a full path for example:
    include_once ("J:/xampp/htdocs/rootfilename/includes/filename.inc.php");
    Will Dreamweaver remove the J:/xampp stuff and give it the correct fully qualified path?
    Thank you in advance for your help, I just want to make sure everything is set up right before I start the transfer.

    No DW will not update absolute paths in your code. Absolute paths will remain exactly how you've typed them on upload.

  • .JSP page will not display on GoDaddy Linux hosting

    Hello
    I would appreciate any help anyone can provide me. I can not get a .JSP page to display on a deluxe hosted GoDaddy account. I have tried the most basic page. Just to make sure I do not have a type-o, I even used an HTML page to direct me.
    Here is the HTML page that has the hyperlink. This page displays fine.
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Test</title>
    </head>
    <body>
         Here is a test page
         <a href="test.jsp">Test JSP</a>
    </body>
    </html>Here is the JSP page that can not be displayed.
    <%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1"
        pageEncoding="ISO-8859-1"%>
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Test</title>
    </head>
    <body>
         Here is a test JSP page
    </body>
    </html>When I click on the link, I get the HTTP 400 error saying the webpage could not be found. I know the code works since I have tested it locally. Plus the code is very simple.
    I am very stumped here and have tried GoDaddy’s help multiple times. They keep telling me it is a scripting issue. I am not sure how it can be a scripting issue because there is no script here. Basically, it is an HTML page with a .JSP extension.
    If anyone can provide advice or know what is wrong, I would very much appreciate the time and knowledge!!!

    I just happened to google "godaddy jsp" and this was one of the top hits:
    [http://help.godaddy.com/topic/319/article/1583]
    I'd say they don't serve up .jsp pages by default, you have to do something to get them to serve it up.
    You know, just because it's a simple HTML page doesn't mean the server knows that. It apparantly can serve up .html and probably other static content, but a .jsp is a special animal because it could contain server-side code. Their server would need to be able to compile them and have a special handler to serve them up, just like all J2EE app servers do. Not all servers are J2EE app servers out of the box.

  • /etc/hosts Private Host Name Fully Qualified Domain Name does it matter?

    During installation of 11gR1 on Windows 2003 the examples in the installation guide show adding the Private IP and host name to /etc/hosts
    However they only add the short name, racnode1, not Fully qualified Domain Name (FQDN), racnode1.mycompany.com
    e.g.
    10.0.0.1 racnode1
    10.0.0.2 racnode2
    Later when installing the Clusterware it then expects to see the FQDN, racnode1.mycompany.com, of course you can modify this and remove the domain name and continue. OR go back and add the FQDN in /etc/hosts
    e.g.
    10.0.0.1 racnode1 racnode1.mycompany.com
    10.0.0.2 racnode2 racnode2.mycompany.com
    What is the best practice? Currently my company is just dropping the FQDN from the name during the install, my instinct is instead to add the FQDN to the /etc/host in the first place.
    Does anyone have a recommendation or experience with either situation?
    Will (using/ or not using) the FQDN cause me issues in the future?

    If it's a problem, the assistent will tell you :-)
    I don't think it's a problem.
    Please mind that the first entry will be the name of the ip address, if it's not in DNS and a utility tries to get the name. (that's the reason 127.0.0.1 resolves to localhost.localdomain, it's the first entry in /etc/hosts)

  • 11g Discoverer - Custom Login and private workbooks questions

    I would like to know if anyone has experience with the following issues.
    It appears that you could configure a custom login for Discoverer Plus/Viewer (users are authenticated via a custom application > provide a link within the custom application to launch Discoverer Plus > Discoverer Plus authenticate with the database as a generic single/service oracle username for a given EUL).
    My questions:
    1. Since we authenticate users in our application, could we just pass generic user information to allow a Discoverer Plus login via a URL (without the generic password being exposed to the user)?
    2. If a custom login works using a generic discoverer database username, how could you pass a unique user identifier so that a user could create and save their own workbooks privately?
    Essentially, we would like to authenticate the Discoverer Plus session via our own application (since the user is already authenticated within our application). And, we would like the Discoverer Plus database session to be generic so we do not require unique database accounts for every end-user. However, we also want the generic Discoverer Plus "session user" to be able to save private workbooks (possibly using sys_context('USERENV', 'CLIENT_IDENTIFIER')).
    Thanks for any insight

    Hi,
    1. Since we authenticate users in our application, could we just pass generic user information to allow a Discoverer Plus login via a URL (without the generic password being exposed to the user)?You can use an HTTP post to send a Discoverer URL that contains both the username and password, so this should allow you to connect ot a generic user.
    2. If a custom login works using a generic discoverer database username, how could you pass a unique user identifier so that a user could create and save their own workbooks privately?I don't think you can do this without using Oracle SSO. I workaround you could explore is for your Discoverer URL to run an initialisation workbook, which takes an encrypted username as a parameter and if this is OK the workbook sets the database environment using PL/SQL and DBMS_SESSION package. The user would then always see the results of the initialisation workbook when they connected which could just show a welcome message.

  • Domain & Web Host Questions? Recommendations

    Hi, I've been looking to purchase a domain name for my

  • Website hosting question

    I am considering using iWeb 09 to build a site, but I have a question. Do I have to use Mobil Me to get all the features provided in iWeb, or can I use a 3rd party hosting provider? Are there specific requirements for a hosting provider?
    Thanks

    My site is new. I just wanted to get some photos up and blog my thoughts. iWeb was handy so I grabbed it. I am definitely system savy - but I had no experience at all with html or site construction. I figured I would just live within the confines of the tool at hand.
    Tell ya though. I suggest taking a couple days and investigating the alternatives. iWeb is very fast and easy - but it doesn't give you much room to move.
    I did have my site up and running within about an hour of deciding to do one though - so it is definitely an easy tool to use.
    Another limitation? Well I am looking into how to create an index for my blog. There is nothing native to iWeb that will do this. I may end up just creating a link set on a blank page - tying index descriptors to other pages that themselves link to various blog pages. A pain in the *** to maintain. But little other options with iWeb.
    I am also looking at other tool kits now with the thought of migrating to it.

  • Private vlan question

    I am replacing a standard set of switches out with ones that can support PVLAN's. All our switches currently have their ip address on vlan 1 and that is the subnet which the default gateway resides. The second switch acts as a redundant switch and will need the same vlans as the primary. Currently they are etherchanneled together. I want to setup a single private vlan with one isolated vlan and several community vlans. My question is where do I put the IP address? Do I still setup a vlan 1 interface as I have done all along? Or do I put the addrss on the primary private vlan? And I assume I will need to setup a trunk between the two switches, vs. etherchannel?

    Private VLANs provide Layer 2 isolation between ports within the same private VLAN. There are three types of private VLAN ports:
    •Promiscuous—A promiscuous port can communicate with all interfaces, including the community and isolated ports within a private VLAN.
    •Isolated—An isolated port has complete Layer 2 separation from other ports within the same private VLAN except for the promiscuous port. Private VLANs block all traffic to isolated ports except traffic from promiscuous ports. Traffic received from an isolated port is forwarded only to promiscuous ports.
    •Community—Community ports communicate among themselves and with their promiscuous ports. These interfaces are isolated at Layer 2 from all other interfaces in other communities or isolated ports within their private VLAN.
    PVLANS are also knows as secondary vlans, they are always associated to primary vlans so they can communicate to other devices outside their subnet through the default gateway. The management ip address or sc0 if it's CAtOS will always be in primary vlan or if native IOS and it's interface vlan it will always be the primary vlan. so, to answer your question, the management ip address will be in primary vlan.
    –You cannot use the inband port, sc0, in a private VLAN.
    Note: With software release 6.3(1) and later releases, you can configure the sc0 port as a private VLAN port; however, you cannot configure the sc0 port as a promiscuous port.
