Goes into shutdown without command

machine goes into shutdown without being commanded to do so. machine has been cleaned and all motherboard and card connections have been renewed. not sure if it is a hardware or software problem. have run 3 different antivirus and registery cleanings. can anyone advise? machine may run 15 minutes, 1 hour, or a whole day before malfunction occures. boots right back up like there is no problem. no error messages, blue screened once, but i think i caused that. geek squad was a waste of time(?!?). no other quirks occur.

Hi:
I doubt it is a software problem.
If you have not done so already, carefully inspect the capacitors (can shaped objects) on the motherboard for bulging tops/leaking electrolyte.  If you find one, that is probably the problem.
If they all look OK, and you have more than one memory module installed, remove all but one and run the PC with the one chip in the required slot.
If the PC shuts down or whatever, remove that memory module and replace it with one of the ones you removed.
Keep doing that until you have tested all modules by themselves.
You may be able to isolate a flaky memory module which for the most part runs OK, but has its moments if the PC runs fine with all but one or two modules.
The only other thing I can think of that it might be, is the power supply has some kind of fault.
I don't know of any way to test that though.

  • Random Shutdown Without Command

    Hello.
My name is Weston Erbentraut, and I have a mid-2010 I7 Macbook Pro. More recently, (over the past four months or so), I been experiencing (random shut down without command) from my computer. I have done a bit of online research regarding possibly issues that may be wrong with it, but still no clear solutio
It is not currently under warranty, and yes I have up-graded everything to a fault.
Is it possible that there might be something wrong with my hard-drive? I have a 500 GB SATA Disk.
    Would someone please help me?
    - Thanks,
            Cityfish.

  • B8000 syas its shutting down but goes into Shutdown

I have recentyl bought the above model and have used it for a week and was very pleased.
I charged it 100% before a long haul flight and did not use it however when I got home it  was dead plugged in the charger and it starts to charge all ok.
I have noticed now that when I go to shut down it seems to do so but if say after 5 hours I take it from case its warm and when it starts up power is at 50% and thats from 100% charge.
In addition once fully flat I notice when I plug in charger I get the battery charging icon but when doing this from Shut down I do not when recharging
It seems to me that when I choose shutdown its really going into sleep mode hence the battery drain
    Any help much appreciated

I think so...I've been doing some experimenting...the first time this happened, I thought that it was just a glitch in something. After I shut down the computer completely, it doesn't do it...a day or so ago, there was an update applied by firefox and it seemed that it started doing it again after that. However, this doesn't make sense to me. I shut the computer down a while ago and now it is hibernating fine again. I tried shutting it down after I logged on and it worked fine. I've opened firefox and it is still working fine. I've also opened my outlook and it doesn't appear to be causing it. I believe that something I am opening might be doing this even though the program itself is shut down, although I have no idea how unless the computer believes it is still on. The only other program I run, is MSWord and MSN messenger, which is open now and I can still hibernate. I figured that the this was a long shot but thought I would ask. So I think the answer to your question is yes, it happens even when I don't have firefox open. I've shut everything down and tried to hibernate it and it won't do it once this starts happening. I'm completely out of ideas.

  • Sleep goes into shutdown when USB hub attached

I was having no issues with 'sleep' until I added a USB (powered) hub. After that, sometime during sleep mode (not immediately) my iMac goes from sleep to shutdown.
If I unplug the hub, sleep works properly.
A slight inconvenience, considering that I bought the hub to avoid reaching around the back of the iMac anytime I needed to plug in a temp peripheral (iTouch, thumb drive, etc.) Though, I can just unplug the USB cable from the hub and not the iMac and sleep mode still behaves.
I've seen posts where USB peripherals can cause an iMac not to sleep, but I seem to have the opposite issue.
Has anyone run into this? I don't know if it is the hub in general, or if a powered hub is an issue.
    Thanks for any feedback.

Hi, well you could try the much vaunted SMC & PRAM resets...unmount all EHD first.
Why not try the hub in another computer........L

  • Windows deselect themselves and the currently used program goes into background without a new window opening. what can i do?

    Title says everything.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

On second read Bill i see that as well.
This is going to be unrelated but your boot-device looks a bit strange as well. You are referencing different slices on the same disk, and then referencing the disk itself and then net.
    boot-device=disk:b disk:a disk net
You would be ok with referencing disk and then net if the server is not mirrored. If the system is mirrored then you would want to reference that disk as well.
    either :boot-device=disk net
    or: boot-device=disk disk<number> net
But the next time it does it, you could try trying sync and trying to create a crash file. Once you have the crash files you can get these analysed.
As well as this pass the server through diagnostics 3 or 4 times and check the console outputs fro details.

I am being asked to upgrade to iCloud Drive but indications are that I will not be able to access up to date details on any of my documents on my Mac without going into iCloud first.  Have I got this interpretation right or can I save changes to access the new versions on my iMac?

    That is Apple's statement:
Using iWork with iCloud Drive - Apple Support
    Options for iWork customers
You can upgrade to iCloud Drive today if you want to keep your documents up to date in iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite, and you want to use the iWork web apps on iCloud.com and the Share via iCloud feature.
You can upgrade to iCloud Drive later if you want to keep your documents up to date with your apps on iOS 7 or earlier and OS X Mavericks or earlier.
    Upgrade to iCloud Drive today
To access the most recent versions of your documents from a Mac with OS X Mavericks or earlier, you’ll need to go to iCloud.com and access Pages, Numbers, and Keynote from there. On a PC, you can install iCloud for Windows and set up iCloud Drive.
If you upgrade to iCloud Drive now:
Your documents will keep up to date across devices with iOS 8, Macs with OS X Yosemite, PCs with iCloud for Windows, and iCloud.com.
Your documents will no longer keep up to date on devices with iOS 7 and Macs with OS X Mavericks or earlier.
You’ll be able to use the iWork web apps on iCloud.com.
You’ll be able to use the Share via iCloud feature with iOS 8, OS X Yosemite, and iCloud.com.
Documents you previously shared via iCloud will be accessible to collaborators.
    Upgrade to iCloud Drive later
Note that until you upgrade your iCloud account to iCloud Drive, you won’t be able to use the iWork web apps on iCloud.com or the Share via iCloud feature.     If you don’t upgrade to iCloud Drive at this time:
Your documents will keep up to date across devices with iOS 8 and across devices with iOS 7 and Macs with OS X Mavericks or earlier.
You won’t be able to use the iWork web apps on iCloud.com.
You won’t be able to use the Share via iCloud feature.
Documents you previously shared via iCloud won’t be accessible to collaborators until you upgrade to iCloud Drive.

  • How can I select shutdown & close the display w/o going into sleep mode?

I have learned to wait untill the MBP full shuts down before closing the display. In the past I have pressed shutdown closed the display only to find out later the MBP goes into sleep mode before fully shuting down. When I reopen the display the computer finishes the shutdown process or worse the battery is dead.
I would like to select shut down, close the display and walk away while the computer completes the shutdown process.
Is there any setup options or apps. that will allow this?
    Thanks, Joe
    (new to the mac)
    MBP   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Well hello there, and welcome to Macintosh.
Unfortunately you can't change anything to stop this from happening. The shutdwn process goes about its business killing processes and applications that have been running. The sleep process interrupts ALL business going on in the OS, and puts the machine into low power mode, as it is not aware of the nature of the running processes (in this case, the shutdown process), knowing only that they must be slept and the machine dropped into sleep mode. You gotta wait it out before you close the lid.
I would suggest sending a message in OS X feedback requesting this as a feature!

i have a screen with the apple logo on it and a bar underneath it. it has been this way for about an hour now. what does this mean and is there a way to reset the iphone without going into the store? it isnt showing in my computer or on the itunes page.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I'm trying to delete multiple pix in iPhoto that i stupidly made duplicates of without knowing, I've tried going into the applications folder and using image capture but i think I've missed a step , can anyone send the correct info / steps pls thanks

again image capture is not involved with deleting photos from iPhoto in any way ever
the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager is very good for finding duplicates as is Duplicate Annihilator
And I have no idea who told you this - or what it means - but re-read both of my opening statements
I was told I could delete multpiles thru image capture by transferring my iPhoto library etc

  • Mark Clip - X shortcut doesn't work for some reason. Is there an easy way to mark a clip without going into Source Monitor?

    Hi guys,
I'm using Premiere Pro CC on Windows 8.1 Pro. The Mark Clip function - X shortcut key by default doesn't seem to work.
I know that if I go into Source Monitor I can mark the clip in there but WHY ? In the old day of CS5.5 I can mark a clip (not timeline) as quick indicator for frame / sound issue of a particular clip. One key press and I'm done.
So, is there an easy way to mark a clip in Premiere Pro CC without going into Source Monitor?
    Cheers!

Hi Mark and everyone looking to find the answer,
After experimenting, I figured out the answer. This applies for the latest version of Adobe Premiere Pro CC (as of 01-Sep-2014) ver 8.0.1 (build 21)
Context: You want to add a marker to a specific clip instead of a sequence but you can't seem to do it.
    Why?
        - X key (or Mark Clip as Premiere Pro CC calls it) doesn't add a Marker to a clip. What it does is using the clip you are selecting as reference for Mark In / Out of your current sequence.
        - M key (or Add Marker as Premiere Pro CC calls it) will add a marker to your clip.
       HOWEVER:
If you are not expanding your clip to see the wave form or clip thumbnail, the marker on the clip will not show up. It used to show up in CS5.5!!!!!! Why not in CC!!!?!
It will only add the marker to the clip you are selecting. Track targeting does not matter.
If you don't select any clip, it will add a marker to your sequence.
Example: (This is the same clip and sequence)
How it looks with marker added.
Track targeting does not matter - reference number 1
Current selected clip is is the key - reference number 2
        2.  How it looks with marker added but you can't see
        3.  How it looks if you don't select the clip and hit M
    Hope this help!
    Cheers!

My phone froze this morning while I was replying to an email.  Is there anything I can do to get it working and to avoid going into Apple?

Assuming it is charged and did not shutdown due to low battery, have you tried an power off/on?  Or a reset by holding the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts?

Whoever told you that is wrong. The warranty on a repair or replacement iPhone is still 90 days minimum. Quoting from their Service FAQ:
If defects arise as a result of service, Apple will cover the repair for the remaining term of the iPhone's warranty or 90 days after iPhone service, whichever provides longer coverage for you.
Call Apple Support and discuss your problem with them. If they agree that it's a hardware problem, they can arrange for mail-in service.
