Goin' Kinda Nuts. HDV Exporting Square not Widescreen?!

Ok, so I have an HV20 Canon, and I import the footage in 1080i60. When I play the captured footage in quicktime, it plays in a nice big wide box in 1920x1080.
Then I have to do a whole process where I make the HDV footage into AIC footage so I can take the interlaced frames out so I can make a true 24p image. (It's an HV20 thing). Anyway, once I convert the footage to AIC and then take the interlaced frames out, I play the footage in Quicktime and AGAIN I get a nice big wide box playing the footage in 1920x1080.
Before I go on, I know HDV's resolution is 1440x1080, but Quicktime still plays it in its full look if you will.
Now I edit the footage in Final Cut Pro, and I export using an HDV setting but using 24 frames a second, and I get a stupid square box in Quicktime!!! What is going on? What do I need to do to export it correctly so it'll display as 1920x1080!
Every other step displays just fine. I'm getting frustrated. I've tried all sorts of settings from matching my sequence settings to matching prior settings to the captured footage and nothing.
Any help would be awesome!

Conform Aperture only affects how movies play within QuickTime Player - the setting has no relevance to any of the FCS apps as best as I can tell - so as long as DVDSP (or whatever app you're using) can 'see' your HDV file as having a 16:9 ratio (meaning that it understands that the codec is anamorphic), you should be good to go.
Or where you going to make a DVD data disc to simply share the QT movie with someone?
As far as setting the Confrom Aperture Property by default, I'm afraid that no FCS app (in my experience) writes to that property. Only when capturing from tape (a QuickTime function, actually) does that get set. (I haven't been able to test the Log & Capture function to see if that sets it, though.)
Edit: I'm not sure why selecting Clean made it pixelated though, so that's weird. Maybe it's an HDV thing?

Carefully examine the codec and pixel dimensions of that output file. That's certainly easy for an experienced VFX person like yourself.
Then carefully look over the presets in FCP to find the same attibutes. You can also use the online help system for FCP and search for "D1"
However, your question remains unanswerable because we don't know how you're getting to the monitor. What are you playing back you AE sequences on that displays them on your LCD? You're assuming we know what you're doing and, I assure you, we do not.

Lossless HDV export

If your captured files are HDV (from an FX1 for example), after you have edited this down to just the stuff you would like to keep, is there a way to export this from the timeline into the same format as the original capture files? Would this be just MPEG 2? Is there anyway to tell it to not recompress unless it has to for a transition or other special effect? I am looking for some way to store the finished videos in a form that I can later use to store on Blueray without losing quality.

I have done extensive testing of this with CS3. The .M2T export is NOT lossless. I'm a videophile and compared the footage on a few different HD displays, and a 1920x1080p projector. Even if you do no filters, overlays, color correction, etc., just straight cuts then re-export to HDV (via the export to tape/pull the cable trick) .M2T, you will see artifacting during scenes of extreme motion or scenes where the MPEG encoder has a very hard time with (my torture test is a pan following a woman walking along a beach where the ground is all stones, all the small stones are a killer for mpeg encoding). There is very noticeable motion artifacting on the .M2T output as compared with the original M2T shot from the camera.
BTW, I also did extensive experimentation with using some type of AVI intermediary, for both editing and as an output format, and NO avi, whether it's cineform or using smth like Lagarith lossless, provides the same degree of "3D" or "you are there" feeling as the original M2T footage has. Even if there is no 'generation loss' in terms of motion artifacts or loss of resolution, there is a definite and visible deterioration of the image quality when using either an AVI intermediary for editing (regardless of what kind of AVI) or outputting to avi. I was going to write a detailed report about this but I've been too busy...
Best results, by far, for me come with editing in native m2t and outputting to H.264 at about 30mpbs.
It really is a bummer. Re-encoding in PPro CS3 does have a generation loss, even without adding effects. Best results I've gotten is exporting to 1920x1440 H.264 at 25-30mbps (and then I distribute on BluRay or WMVHD for the web).

kindly help with this error. We have already run catexp.sql but still that is not helping, we are still getting the same error.

Been getting -bash: [export: command not found

I have no idea how to fix this. Any help is appreciated. Here is the complete error I get when I open up terminal:

In your bash initialization file you have a command
[export
however there is no command '[export' (open square bracked export)
Look for a file by the name
.bash_profile
.bash_login
.profile
.bashrc
and see which one of those files has a command that starts with [ followed by the letters e x p o r t
Chance are it is suppose to be just 'export' without the open square bracket.

Near lossless HDV export?

Does CS3 have settings for near lossless HDV export - for those segments of the timeline where the video is unchanged? For example, let's say I have four HDV mpeg2 clips. The first two are clips that butt up against each other: no transitions, no effects. Clip 2 cross-dissolves into clip 3. Clip 4 has effects. In near lossless, I would imagine that for clips 1 and 2, CS3 would copy the frames (GOPs?) with no data change (instead of rerendering) up until the first dissolve. At the beginning of the dissolve CS3 would render and then, after the dissolve, go back to laying down an exact copy of the part of the mpeg on the timeline that was unchanged. For clip 4, CS3 would have to completely rerender.
Is this a nutty question? Or is there a setting to tell CS3: just copy the mpeg2 HDV video exactly - when possible?

The question is not nutty but uninformed. Datawise there is no such thing as a single frame in native HDV. You should know that HDV is a compressed format which combines information over multiple frames. In other words a group of frames are compressed together and the processor decompresses them into separate frames when you watch the video. However, when you render, the processor re-combines multiple frames. Therefore you can not render on the frame.
The only way to render on the frame is to use a codec which decompresses the native formet once and for all into single frames. From there on you can go down many generations with minimum loss.
Use the award winning Cineform codec, either Aspect or Prospect (Aspect works perfectly for me).

Exporting Case Notes into a Report

Is there any way to export case notes into a report? We run client reports based on customer cases, but I haven't found any way to include the date-stamped notes into a final customer/case report. Any help would be much appreciated!

FDM export to HFM - 2nd export did not clear all data from 1st export?

Has anyone experienced exporting a replacement FDM file to HFM where the 2nd file did not contain an account that was present in the original file and that account/value in the 1st file then remained in the HFM trial balance and caused it to be out of balance? Does the replace export option not clear all the prior file data? The only unusual part of it might be that the problem account was derived using logic group script? Thanks.

Thanks Hensen - Sure, it was easy enough to fix once I deduced what the problem was - although my solution was just to use the data clear function and reload. The real question is how to prevent it from happening again and it sounds like I can't do much about it - other than trying to train the users to watch out for do-over files that have fewer accounts than the original load?? Am I wrong to think that HFM should try to fully clear all previous data from a load file if there is a replacement or at least try to validate whether or not all prior accounts have been repopulated?? There's plenty of good validation in the validation step of FDM. Why not during the export step? If this makes sense, I'll put in another "enhancement request" to support.

Include in Export does not work in APEX 3.1

I have a report with many columns. On screen I only show several columns, but on export to CSV I want to include all columns.
However, when "Show on Report" is set to No, and I want to set "Include in Export" to Yes on the "Print Attributes" tab, it does not get updated.
It only gets updated when the "Show on Report" is set to Yes.
It also seems that the "Include in Export" on the "Report Attributes" tab is not in sync with the "Include in Export" on the "Print Attributes" tab the first time you access the "Print Attributes" tab.
Question: Does "Include in Export" only works for columns which has the "Show on Report" set to Yes? If Yes, how can I achieve the above mentioned?

After some investigations the following can be concluded:
On the Report Attributes tab, pick a column, and set "Show Column" to Yes, "Include in Export" to Yes, and no conditions.
I do not want this column to be printed, so on the Print Attributes tab, set the "Column Width" to 0.
When you run the report, you will notice that the column is not included in the export to CSV and not printed.
Setting the "Column Width" to a value greater than 0, the export to CSV works fine, but the column is also printed.

Thanks Patrick for your solution (:REQUEST LIKE 'FLOW_EXCEL_OUTPUT_%'), it works great. The column is now not show on screen but included in the export to CSV. However, you have to set the column width to a value greater than 0.
An enhancement request for 4.0 could be to also have a property "Include in Print", and that this property and "Include in Export" are not dependent on the "Show Column" value.

Error while rendering: Export file not found - what to do?

Hi,
I have been editing my video in four different premiere pro projects (as I got adviced to do from these forums because it's AVCHD clips). I have rendered these four projects and burned to four DVD's (total playtime is around 1.5hours) - which is working fine.
But then I try to import all four projects into one big master project because I want to make a blu-ray iso. The import goes fine (I import like this: File > Import > Choose project > Import entire project)
I export to encore, make the menus etc. and click "build" to start rendering. The problem is that after some time I get this error:
Blu-ray Object: "sequence-name-here/project-name-here.prproj", Export file not found
I have seen this error before while rendering some of the four individual projects - but when I saw them I simply just tried again by exporting to encore from the projects again. This seemed to work - but with the big master project I have tried several times with no luck.
Can anyone help me fix this issue? :)

Yes, I got this too:
For posterity, here is what I have found that completely fixes this error, repeatedly: Clear Encore's cache. Specifically:
Close your Encore project and exit Encore
Go to the cache subdirectory named for your project (ie. if your save file is c:\projects\mymovie.ncor then go to c:\projects\mymovie\cache)
Delete the file "mlf.cache.v10"
If your Encore project contains any Premiere Pro dynamically-linked assets, start Premiere Pro and load at least one of the projects used in Encore. (I have found that this reduces memory usage -- for some reason, Premiere Pro takes up less memory than if Encore spawns the PProHeadless.exe media server to serve the same function)
Restart Encore and load your project
...and wait, patiently, for Encore to re-scan all of your assets and build up the cache again and don't touch it until it's finished. I use Process Explorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653) to watch my disk activity and CPU to know when Encore is finished (just hover on the cyan-colored graph and you can see what program is performing the most disk activity). Once it's all finished, I save, then immediately try to build my project again. For proof of concept, my 40GB BD-50 project just built last night after getting this error yesterday afternoon.
If any of your assets are not transcoded before you begin this process, transcode them all, then start this process over again from step one. Clearing the cache does not clear the transcodes.
I hope this helps someone. I was not looking forward to completely re-authoring my project, which I've been working on (on and off) for a few months.

Why are my exported files not going to me email? I have used 3 different ones.

Why are my exported files not going to my email (receipts & business card)? I have used 3 different ones...2 yahoo and 1 hotmail. I have checked spam box also.

For the Receipts app I chose to export the info as a PDF file..an email was requested..I entered info and clicked send. For the Business Card app I chose Send, not Print..an email was requested..I entered info and clicked send. I haven't received anything, not even in my spam folder.

"Vaguely like" is the best we can hope for and a minor miracle in itself. PDF was never meant to be converted.
