Going Abroad - Question About Voltage Converter Stuff

Hello, so I am going abroad for a few months (the Netherlands), and I have a question about voltage converter stuff. All of the voltage converters I can find say powers heat-producing appliances rated 500-1600 and converts foreign voltage of 220-240 volts to U.S. voltage 110-120. However, it says not to use on appliances under 500 watts such as computers. So first, off does anyone know how many watts an ibook g4 14" puts off. Secondly, I read that laptops have a dual adapter and that they can work on the 220-240 volts converter. Does anyone have any ideas about these issues; any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Brandon,
Welcome to the Discussions.
Your iBook's power adapter is rated for 100-240v. All you need is an adapter for the plug so it will fit in a European outlet. You can find them at travel stores or online for a few dollars.

  • Update on my K8N and a question about voltage

    Well,
    I've read all the threads in this and several other forums about the k8n.  I have tried everything (including putting my raid on sata 3 & 4).  I cannot go above 235 - 240 HTT and that's with an 8x multiplier (also tried 10, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4) and memory set to 166.  This is using clockgen (also tried through the bios).
    I can run 220 HTT 11x multiplier (3400+) with 1:1 memory and it is 100% stable.  I have the 1.2b5 bios.  So I'm still pretty bummed about the lack of OCing.
    Anyway, on to my question.  When I bring up CPU-Z and look at the CPU tab. The voltage jumps around a bit.  I have it set to 1.55 the bios and CPU-Z will display 1.552, 1.568, 1.552, 1.536, 1.552, etc. back and forth jumping every few seconds or so. Also the core speed fluxuates by about 0.1 MHz for each jump. So..... Is this normal or is my power supply wacked?  I've just never seen this before on my previous computers.
    Thanks!

    My voltages do the same thing. Since it's not a huge percentage of the total voltage, I wasn't too worried about it and attributed it to tolerance.

  • MSI P45 Diamond : Question about voltages and straps.

    Hi,
    Before I start a post with my overclocking problems I want to learn more about the board and have a few questions:
    1. OC Jumpers: What do they exactly do, do the increase any voltages, do the change the nb strap or do they only increase the fsb. If they do not change the strap, when/where does the board change it 266/333/400?
    2. What is the maximum safe voltages for the mch,ich,fsb?
    3. New BIOS: Does anyone know when can we expect one or where can I download a beta that is newer than 1.4.
    Ok, my problem is that I can overclock past 390. I can get 400 but it is not stable in windows. I first want tolearn how the board works before I discuss my oc problem.
    PC Specs:
    MSI P45 Diamond (v1.4 Bios)
    Intel Q9300 (ran 2000fsb on a xfx 780i)
    4x1gb Transcend aXeram DDR3-1800+
    Zalman 850W power supply
    XFX GTX 260 XXX
    Xfi Titanium
    Thanks

    The jumpers change the strap & the FSB Frequency:
    When you have an FSB-266 MHz processor and put the jumpers into the 333 MHz position, the FSB Clock Speed will be forced to 333 MHz and the BIOS treats the CPU as though it is an FSB-333-MHz Processor, that means even after a CMOS Clear, the FSB Clock Speed will be 333 MHz and FSB/Memory Ratio will be adjusted automatically based on that strap and the SPD Tables of your memory modules.

    The Intel Datasheet for the P45 Chipset should give you a basic overview on voltage ranges.  However, you may need to exceed these ranges, in some cases, depending on your overclock to keep the system stable.  You will find nobody, that will seriously be willing to tell you the "maximum safe voltage" as every voltage increase is potentially dangerous to your the components.  Welcome to overclocking.

    The latest BETA I know about so far is v1.5b1.

  • Question about DNG converter in Bridge CS4

    Hello,
    I just installed Photoshop CS4, When I updated, it downloaded a hefty update (199 megs), so my setup now is:
    Win XP pro
    Bridge 3.0.0.464
    Camera RAW 5.7
    Photoshop CS4 11.0.2
    My Camera is a Panasonic Lumix FZ150 ( 2011 vintage)
    I have downloaded the Adobe DNG converter 6.6.0.261
    Every thing seems to be working fine so far, except:
    In Bridge when I "get Photos from Camera" the DNG conversion doesn't work. When I use the standalone converter it works fine.
    From reading past material on this forum I am assuming this is due to the fact that Bridge is older than my camera, and doesn't recognize the format.
    The questions:
    1. Does Bridge have its own built in DNG converter that is not upgradeable separately?
    2. If 1 is correct, is there a way to point Bridge to the location of the standalone converter so the work flow can be optimized.
    3. Since Bridge is not doing the conversion, but only importing the files, does the "Apply metadata" section of that window actually do anything? Should I bother to fill in any of those boxes?
    Thanks for any help.

    I posted a similar question quite a while ago, and what I learned was that Bridge has a DNG converter built in, but it's using ACR to read the file before it can convert. So you need ACR support for your camera.
    AFAIK there's no way to point Bridge to a standalone DNG converter.
    I suggested an updateable DNG converter plugin for Bridge, don't know why nobody listened...I thought it was an excellent idea
    As for the metadata, you just have to try. I don't know if it can write metadata when it can't read the file.

  • Question about migrating my stuff from iMac to a new one

    Hi I must be on my fourth consecutive iMac now, and it is late 2007 model I think. I am considering about getting a new one soon. It is very tempting to use Migration Assistant to haul everything to the new one from the old one but:
    After 4 previous migrations, will I have a slower system than a clean, new one with just the files, not migrated settings and other stuff?
    Are there some negative effects of migrating vs installing everything from scratch?
    Thanks for any input!
    BR
    Timo

    When using Migration Assistant in my opinion it's best to connect to either a Time Machine Backup via USB or Firewire to the new machine. DO NOT use Wi-Fi to migrate. Also remember if you should prepare the old machine to ensure all of it's apps are up-to-date and it is running well otherwise.
    I would also recommend using Setup Assistant to migrate rather than Migration Assistant. Both are almost the same,however SA is what starts up when you turn on any new Mac for the first time. It will come to a point where it asks if you are migrating from an older Mac. Select yes, select your TM backup EHD and connect it (USB or Firewire remember??) to the new machine and select the options and let it do the migration. This method normally results in a smooth migration and will not create a new user account like Migration Assistant will.

  • Question about voltage holding of multi Analog outputs

    Hi, I'm programming my NI USB-6008 with V++.
    Now I have a question. The device has 2 analog outputs.
    When I set channel "ao0" to a certain voltage, then stop this task. Then start another task and set channel "ao1" to another certain voltage. When I do the second task, will ao0 hold the voltage set in the first task?
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Lowsfer-
         Yes, the analog output state of AO1 will remain in the last state it was before the task was stopped.  As long as the device is not reset or the computer is not turned off, the analog output will maintain the last voltage you specified, regardless of what the other Ao channel is doing.
         I hope this helps.  Best of luck with your application!

  • Answer to question about "Error Occurring when convertion is tried for PDF to Word Document"

    There are about ten questions about the "Error Occurring" when  using Abode Reader XLto convert a PDF to a Word Doc, but no one has the answer? It has something to do with "signing in  the wrong address". I have been working on this three days Now! Soimeone has the answer? Cataloochee

    You must be kidding to say, "Adobe doesn't convert any version of Adobe Reader."'  I must be in another world! When i move an Adobe Reader file pdf that goes to a wIndow that the top line says,'' Adobe reader X1 1001 Early Dutch History. pdf ". Then i click on the far left yellow marked icon that is used to move 1001 Early Dutch History.pdf to thye far right into a gray colored slot that reads "1001 Early Dutch History.pdf'. Under the file above  or down below, the selected File for conversionis, a selection gray slot that ask if you want to convert this file(pdf) to a .docx.,.doc, tex. or Excell. After I make the selection and click onto Convert, a message comes into view where the word convert was that reads "An Error Occurred wilth Signing In  OK" Even the use of another pdf file with a complete different address produces the same message. There are eight chapters in Dutch that I need to convert to word document by tommorrow or the class i teach "the Origin of Golf" will have to listen in Dutch and I can't speak Dutch. Cataloochee

  • Question about converting to 128kbps for iphone 4

    good day. i was wondering about the 'convert higher bit rate songs to 128kbps' option. i always import my bought cd's in apple lossless, and i guess the music i buy on itunes is 256, so that said i have a few playlists on my 16gb iphone 4 and with all the other stuff on there i still have 9gb's free. would it be worth it to me to convert the songs to 128kbps? will the sound be noticeably worse? i have what are considered really good headphones as well so how will that work out as well? thanks for any help. really wondering about the sound quality in case i end up using more of my memory with pics and apps in the future.

    would it be worth it to me to convert the songs to 128kbps? will the sound be noticeably worse?
    On the iPhone while moving around, sitting in an office, doing stuff, you will likely not notice any difference.
    Perhaps if you sit in a very quiet room and really concentrate on listening, you may notice very minor differnece in quality.
    That option is to save space on the iDevice. If you have plenty, don't use it.
    Note that when you use this option on the Summary screen in iTunes, it only converts when adding to the iPhone.
    Your library is not changed at all.

  • Question about get web service result in actionscript and convert data format

    Hi, All
    I have question about how to get dataset from web services
    and put it in tree structure. I have 2 questions about this:
    1, How can I get data correctly in actionscript?
    I have no problem to get data by
    <mx:ArrayCollection id="acFolder"
    source="{mx.utils.ArrayUtil.toArray(MyGServices.getFolder.lastResult)}"
    />
    And display in datagrid.
    But when I try to use
    public function
    handleFolderContents(event:mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent):void{
    arData=mx.utils.ArrayUtil.toArray(event.result);
    acData=new ArrayCollection(arData);
    input.text=acData.getItemAt(0).id;
    Seems I can’t get data, it always say:
    TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of
    a null object reference.
    2, how to convert data format
    I get data from web service and want to convert it to tree
    structure, as mention below:
    I get:
    <Array>
    <id>111</id>
    <Name>Production1</Name>
    </Array>
    <Array>
    <id>222</id>
    <Name>Production2</Name>
    </Array>
    Convert to:
    <mx:XMLList id="treeData">
    <node>
    <node label="Production1" data="111">
    <node label="Production2" data="222"/>
    </node>
    </node>
    </mx:XMLList>
    Please help me.
    Thanks.

    First, don't specify the package path in the argument
    declaration. Instead import the event object:
    import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent;
    The docs state this emphatically.
    Second, try "lastResult", in place of "result":
    arData=mx.utils.ArrayUtil.toArray(event.lastResult); // I am
    not positive about this. I maybe recall reading that result was ok
    for the event object, but maybe not.
    Finally, why do you want to convert the xml? You certainly
    could, but it would be a manual process, recursively reading the
    existing xml nodes and building the new structure, but again, why?
    Just use a labelFunction if necessary to display the nodes as
    you wish.

  • Questions about converting files in order to import to iMovie '09?

    I was able to import the videos from my camera (.mts files) into iMovie '09, but now when I click Import from Camera, iSight opens up instead. Since I can't find out why it won't open up my camera files now, I have decided on just converting the files. I just have a question about converting though. The videos I recorded from my camera are in HD. They're very good quality. If I convert the videos from .mts into .mp4, would that reduce the quality of the video?

    When that happens to me I get stubborn and make iMovie see the camera by shutting down and reopening iMovie, because I don't want another level of transcoding. If that doesn't work and you have a card reader of even better, a sd slot on your iMac, just plug the card in. If it appears on the desktop iMovie should see it, and if it appears on your desktop then iMovie should read it.
    I have a Canon HFS 100 that works best if I take the card out and plug it into the computer.
    The times I converted to .mp4, I thought the quality did degrade, because it had to be converted to .mp4 and then imported as AIC. But I am not an expert on whether iMovie can deal with .mp4 directly.
    Canons require that one have the camcorder plugged into a power outlet, another reason to use a card reader.
    What kind of camcorder do you have?  With some camcorders, if one takes both photos and video, the video won't be read.
    When nothing works, occasionally deleting iMovie preferences works.

  • Question about GPU voltage.

    My vid card reads .95v and its running well, don't get me wrong i have no complaints. I just have questions since i come across several posts about voltage.
    1. What would be a reason to increase voltage? (the answer may answer the other questions as well.)
    2. Does it make games run faster?
    3. Does it increase the temps?
    4. Why do some gamers w/ similar GPU as mine have higher default voltage?
    Thanks in advance for replies.

     1 - Reason to increase voltage is when overclocking the card or if default voltage was not quite high enough to begin with and the card is not stable during stress under use in gaming and such.
     2 - Just simply increasing voltage by itself will not affect game playing speed/performance.
     3 - Yes it can cause temps to be somewhat higher in conjunction with OC.
     4 - Default voltage can vary from one GPU to another even if the same GPU mainly depending on the clock speed of the particular card in question. Even if same speed and same model of GPU the default voltage can vary simply due to variations in the chip itself may require a different voltage setting.

  • Going to china,a question about re charging and volt

    hi there
    i've got a zen xtra, and i'm going to china i'm from canada, am i going to need to get a voltage convertor not a plug adapter i've got one of those, the support staff told me that my player SHOULD take the voltage, any info would be great because i would really hate to plug my player in and have it explode.
    thank you

    When I had been to India, I just needed the plug adapter, since the voltage ratings were 230V/50 Hz -- well within my power adapter ratings range. If the voltage rating of China lies in the range of ur adapter, then u wouldn't need a voltage converter.
