Going Backward from IDVD to IPhoto Slideshow files

Hi,
Does anyone know of a way to take a DVD created via IDVD and go backward to extract the underlying IPhoto images / slideshow? A friend send me his DVD, and there are a couple of images that I'd like to use in a slideshow that I'm pulling together.
Thanks
Ken

Open the DVD disk in the Finder and see if possible your friend included the source photos on the DVD. There is an option to do that in iDVD.
If not the best you can do is play the DVD with DVD Player, pause the presentation on the photos you want and take a screenshot of them. They will be the same size as they would be if you were to rip the slideshow as a QT movie file and extracted those frames that way. Only the screenshot will probably be of a better image quality.

  • Export from iDVD to link slideshows

New to working with DVD projects and may have made error in creating slideshows for upcoming event. I have now made several slideshows within iDVD by getting individual photos from iPhoto (and other locations) and audio tracks from garage band. It looks pretty good actually and I have burned a trial DVD. Each slideshow plays well with the audio, however at the end of each it returns to main menu. My desire would be a one click play from the main menu but now I'm not able to link all the slideshows together.
Reading previous posts looks like it would have been better to develop slideshows IN iphoto or imovie and then import to iDVD. Nevertheless - this is wher I'm at. Questions:
    1) Can I export the individual slideshows to iMovie or QT and then splice together and then put back in iDVD (or something to that effect).
    2) If I make one slideshow within iDVD am I able to make sure the audio tracks stay with the appropriate slides or will it "blend it all together" and add the audio tracks/adjust slide transitions.
By the way, it works OK as, it just requires menu selection at the end of each set of slides. This is really a "fine tuning" couple of questions and I'll know better next time.
    thanks

Yup, it would have been easier in iPhoto or iMovie. The only way I know to "export" from iDVD is to actually create the DVD (or disk image) and then extract the slideshows. But there's a fair learning curve for that process and a loss of video quality unless you use Roxio Toast, or something similar, to put the project back together on DVD.
I'd live with your current DVD, or use iPhoto.

  • IDVD 5 / iPhoto slideshow issue resolved?

I am working with iPhoto and iDVD 5. I'm having a problem that i found on the discussions dating back to December '05. I have a iPhoto slideshow with 570 pics and 12 songs. When I "send to iDVD" only the first song plays on the preview. The photos keep playing, just the music stops. Does anyone know if this bug has been fixed in iLife 6 before i purchase the upgrade?
    Thanks
    Danno

    Hi Danno:
You know, I haven't seen that mentioned here as an iDVD 6 problem.
And, I searched the discussions and could not find anyone complaining of that.
My guess is, it just may be fixed.

  • How to Play music from Garageband in iPhoto slideshow

    Hi
Just started learning to use Garageband to "stitch" some songs together to play in the iPhoto slideshow.
    1. When in iPhoto slideshow, there is an option to select the "stitched" song from source "Garageband" - but, the music does not play when the slideshow runs.
In fact, in the music window - the "stitched" song is listed under source "Garageband" with no time.
    BUT,
    2. when in "Garageband" - under "Share" I send song to iTunes - the "stitched" song appears in source "iTunes" which I can select in iPhoto and it will play with the slideshow.
Does anyone know, what step I did not complete for the first option above to work. I guess, it has something to do with "making it share in iLife" - but I cannot find where is that option.
Loom forward to hear from someone.
    Regards

  • Random sequential groups of photos missing from Events and iPhoto Slideshow but are in an Album. How do I recover or copy photos back to Events and rebuild slideshow?

Random sequential groups of photos missing from Events, an Album I created, and a slideshow using the photos. This "appears" to have happened when upgrading to Yosemite. When I use iPhoto Library Manager, I see two entries for the Event Information for the date in question, same name, same number of photos, but different sizes. The smaller has the image number but no photo for the given date; the larger has the photos.
Image path for the version with all photos: /Volumes/Promise Pegasus/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Previews/2010/2010_05_24/IMG_0697.jpg
Image path for the version with missing photos: /Volumes/Promise Pegasus/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Previews/2010/2010_05_24_2/IMG_0697.jpg (NOTE the _2 added to the image number.)
I assume that I have to get the missing pictures back in Events so I can reload back into the Album. Hopefully, the slideshow will magically be better.
    Help!

That's an indication that the link/file path between the thumbnail and the master file has been broken.  Do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
    2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • Iphoto slideshow file

is there a way to get a slide show file from one computer to another by coping the file? I did a slide presentation on my macpro and I want to put it on my macbook pro. I have iphoto on both systems.

A slideshow is only an entry in the database - and instruction to show certain files in a certain way - and so the only way to move it in an editable form is to move the Library that contains it.
If you don't need to edit it further then export it as a QuickTime movie and copy that over.

  • Going backwards from 2012R2 to 2008R2

I have a situation in our environment (application compatibility) where I may need to migrate printers from 2012R2 to 2008R2. Can anyone tell me if the Microsoft Print Migration tool will let me do this or if there is a better way?  We'd originally
planned to move from 2003 to 2012R2 for our print servers & I have a model system built out in 2012R2 (with all of our queues created like we want) however now it may be necessary to downgrade to 2008R2.
    # When I wrote this script only God and I knew what I was doing. # Now, only God Knows!

If you still have the 2003 machine it may be easier to power that back on and perform the backup using the 2008R2 version of the tool.  Then restore to 2008R2.
The tool was designed to back up a previous OS printers and restore to the OS that the tool is running from.
The issue you will have backing up 2012R2.
    1) V4 drivers are stored in the \windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository directory.  They are not in spool\drivers\x64\3.  Only Windows 8 and above versions of the utility can back up this storage path.
    2) The winprint.dll print processor is newer and will fail the restore on 2008R2.  You will need to expand the backup and remove the references to this file before the restore.
    3) WSD ports will cause an issue if you have them on 2012R2.  There was a bunch of work added to get this functionality working in 2012R2.  If you have this port type AND you restore from 2012R2 to 2008R2, the experience will be better but I suspect
some of the port installations will fail.
    4) Can't think of anything else.  Next stop is perform the restore on a test 2008R2 machine and see what the result is.
    5) Please report back on your findings.  I'm sure someone later in life will find the outcome useful.

  • Going backwards from 10.4.6 to 10.4.5... Is this possible?

10.4.6 broke an important application... Is there an easy way to get back to 10.4.5 or 10.4.4?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

Which application and what does broke mean?
The only way to revert to a previous OS X version is via an Archive & Install using your Tiger install package and you can select preserve user and network settings.
If your Tiger install package includes an earlier version than 10.4.5, after doing so run Software Update or better yet, download the 10.4.5 Combo Update to get the OS to 10.4.5 only.

  • Creating DVD from iPhoto Slideshow with music

I'm trying to create a DVD of a slideshow with music that was created previously in iPhoto and then "Shared with iDVD". The .m4v file located in Pictures> iPhoto Slideshows is not accessible in iDVD. The only way I can make it work is to spend the hour or so required to start from scratch by clicking "Share with iDVD" from an open iPhoto slideshow, thus creating a .m4v file and then going directly to the iDVD menu that's automatically opened at the end of the "Share with iDVD" process. Any ideas?

    Welcome to the forums.
When I'm going from iPhoto to iDVD with a slideshow, I get good results by Exporting from iPhoto to a large-sized Quicktime movie. I can preview the video and music, and if I'm happy, I can then just drop the Quicktime file onto the iDVD menu area (not into a drop zone, that's just eye candy). It's been a reliable process for me.

  • Transferring iPhoto slideshow to DVD

I have some slide shows (about 150 jpegs, each about 4.4 mb) that I'd like to transfer to DVD. On the iPhoto slide show they display a very high quality resolution, and show for about 1 second before the next one. I want to maintain that level of quality and speed.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    ez

    EZ:
Are you using the Ken Burns effect? If not I've found I get better image quality by creating the slideshow in iDVD instead of exporting from iPhoto. You will have to add music with a playing time to get the 1 second timing for each slide. so for 1 second on time for each slide you may have to set the music to be twice 150 seconds. I just ran a test with 50 slides and the dissolve transition and adding a track of 90 seconds gives me about 1 second on screen for each slide.
Exporting the slideshow from iPhoto creates a Quicktime movie file first and imports that. As I said, IMO the final image quality is not as good as creating from stills in iDVD. Also be sure to use top quality media (Verbatim-R is the unanimous choice of the iDVD gurus in the iDVD forum) and burn at the slowest speed possible, not more than 4X. Also do not burn the disk directly from iDVD but do a File->Save as Disk Image first so you can play the disk image with iDVD Player to confirm the encoding (and as I need to do - look for typos). You can then burn the disk image with Disk Utility.
The transition chosen makes that a little more difficult. Also you may experience a pause at slide 100 as each slide is a separate chapter in iDVD and they are renumbered back to 1 after every 99 slides.
All images, whether video from iPhoto or slides get resized to 640 x 480 for playing on TV. There's no other way around it.
NOTE: using more that 99 slides in a slideshow created in iDVD will result in a pause at slide 100. This is due to the fact that the DVD standard for chapters is 99 but iDVD 7 has allowed more than 99 slides/chapters by renaming slide 100 to 1 and going from there. If you use good media and burn very slowly there will only be a brief pause, similar to that in commercial movie DVDs when it switched from layer 1 to layer 2 as it plays. Some DVD players may have greater problems with that transition, particularly if poorer media and higher burn speeds are used.
You can ask this same question in the iDVD forum to get their perspective on it.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • ITunes music for iPhoto Slideshow

Not able to use files from iTunes for iPhoto Slideshow.  Only SAMPLE MUSIC.  This is the message that I get > iTunes The song "The Sad Cafe" could not be used because the original file could not be located.

Have you checked, if the song plays correctly, when you try to play the song "The Sad Cafe" in iTunes? If you see an exclamation point besides the song, you need to reconnect that dead track to the original file. When you try to playy the song, iTunes should prompt you for the location of the song. Use the File Chooser window, that will pop up, to search for the file and select it.
Then try again to use the song in your slideshow.

I created an album in iPhoto and every time I click on slideshow it plays the pictures backwards from the order in the album. How do I change that?

When running a slideshow from an album it will not run properly if the photos are sorted manually.  Sort them by any of the other options, title, date, rating, etc. and it will play correctly.
Send a report of the problem to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
If you must sort them manually create the slideshow in the slideshow mode in iPhoto, not from an album.

Re: Why when making a slideshow in iphoto, then going to share idvd, when making dvd i keep getting multiplex error

    Hi
There are so many things that can give - multiplex error
    Two very common ones
    • Using letters other than A to Z or 0 to 9 eg. / # ; etc. in texts, titles, buttons or alike's.
    • Turn on TV-Safe area in iDVD and secure that no text or object goes past this or even touching it.

  • Iphoto slideshow to idvd: quality & burning issues...

I've made a few slideshows in iphoto due to the Ken Burns effect and also the ability to choose full screen or widescreen. I made DVDs for friends with full and myself with wide for my widescreen- and that works fine.
My question is about the quality of the movies. Obviously a substantial loss of quality from viewing the show in iPhoto on my Powerbook...
Is there a better way to do this with better results? Using iMovie? (Never have used that app before..) Each show has 100-250 slides and I choose a music playlist from iTunes. I am a quality freak and looking the uncrisp images isn't too thrilling.
(Even when playing the disk image in the DVD Player on my Powerbook and comparing with the original project file- it's a little more fuzzy.)
Also, I just got an external Lacie burner (I have combo drive) and have much unsuccess with burning. I have repaired permissions and create as a disk image in iDVD. It plays back great from the disk image in DVD Player on Powerbook. This specific movie is 2.4 GB and I have 10.1 free dis space.
Problems: (tried with 2 or 3 different movies)
*Disk Utility will not burn the image. It begins and then stops and says there are errors (not specific)...
*iDVD goes through 4 or 5 steps and right at the end says "Errors during burning"
(I was also getting a multiplexing error, but I freed up some space and didn't get that last time)
*TOAST- Using the DVD-Video from Video-TS (as recommended on various boards) does not work. It finishes but won't verify and nothing plays...
*TOAST- using DVD-Video: The menu made in iDVD isn't functional. Can't choose different slideshows... Won't highlight, etc...
    *TOAST- using "Data" DVD-ROM (UDF):
THIS IS THE ONLY THING THAT HAS WORKED AND PROJECTS ARE ABLE TO BE VERIFIED. MENUS ARE FUNCTIONAL IN MY 2 DVD PLAYERS...
I have the newest versions of Toast and iPhoto and iDVD. It's been very frustrating. Can't figure out why iDVD and Disk Utility won't burn... and TOAST only works using "Data" instead of Video... My Powerbook is a 60 GB 12" G4 1.33 model. I'm so tempted to upgrade to a bigger hard drive and a Superdrive but I don't know if that will help anything.
    Thanks for listening!

Video DVDs are 720X480 (NTSC). Much lower resolution than straight iPhoto slideshows and your original photos. Nothing you can do about this until either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray technology come to the market and are affordable.
iMovie will not be better resolution after it is sent to DVD. You could export to HD resolution QT files (H.264, etc.) and play those on computers with QT and keep higher resolution. But those won't play with commercial DVD players.
Disk Utility will not burn the image.
Can you verify the mounted image with Disk Utility?
Can you burn other data DVDs with the finder and with Toast succesfully?
You should be able to use both the Video_TS drag into DVD-Video for Toast and the direct image burn in Toast, as well as Disk Utility. I wonder if there is an error in the image, so see if you can verify the mounted image with DU.
