Going backwards from 2012R2 to 2008R2

I have a situation in our environment (application compatibility) where I may need to migrate printers from 2012R2 to 2008R2. Can anyone tell me if the Microsoft Print Migration tool will let me do this or if there is a better way?  We'd originally
planned to move from 2003 to 2012R2 for our print servers & I have a model system built out in 2012R2 (with all of our queues created like we want) however now it may be necessary to downgrade to 2008R2.
# When I wrote this script only God and I knew what I was doing. # Now, only God Knows!

If you still have the 2003 machine it may be easier to power that back on and perform the backup using the 2008R2 version of the tool.  Then restore to 2008R2.
The tool was designed to back up a previous OS printers and restore to the OS that the tool is running from.
The issue you will have backing up 2012R2.
1) V4 drivers are stored in the \windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository directory.  They are not in spool\drivers\x64\3.  Only Windows 8 and above versions of the utility can back up this storage path.
2) The winprint.dll print processor is newer and will fail the restore on 2008R2.  You will need to expand the backup and remove the references to this file before the restore.
3) WSD ports will cause an issue if you have them on 2012R2.  There was a bunch of work added to get this functionality working in 2012R2.  If you have this port type AND you restore from 2012R2 to 2008R2, the experience will be better but I suspect
some of the port installations will fail.
4) Can't think of anything else.  Next stop is perform the restore on a test 2008R2 machine and see what the result is.
5) Please report back on your findings.  I'm sure someone later in life will find the outcome useful.

  • Migrate backwards from 2012 to 2008R2 SSIS

    I developed an SSIS package using SSDT 2012.
    Now that it's time to productionize the package (and 13 reports and dashboard) I find that, while Reporting Services is using 2012, our SSIS is stuck on 2008R2.  I now need to recreate the package in SSIS 2008R2.
    Is there any way to copy and past the existing package nd tweak rather than reconstruct?
    It souldn't be a problem, except on of the data sources is Sharepoint and requires an add-in to proceed. I'm low on time, and lower on patience.
    Please help!

    I dont think it will work. You will have to recreate package in SSIS 2008 R2 I'm afraid. They're not backward compatible. Some of provider/references have also changed in SSIS 2012 so that will also add to issue.
    The inverse will work fine though in most times as you've upgrade wizard available in SSIS 2012 SSDT.

  • Going Backward from IDVD to IPhoto Slideshow files

    Hi,
    Does anyone know of a way to take a DVD created via IDVD and go backward to extract the underlying IPhoto images / slideshow? A friend send me his DVD, and there are a couple of images that I'd like to use in a slideshow that I'm pulling together.
    Thanks
    Ken

    Open the DVD disk in the Finder and see if possible your friend included the source photos on the DVD. There is an option to do that in iDVD.
    If not the best you can do is play the DVD with DVD Player, pause the presentation on the photos you want and take a screenshot of them. They will be the same size as they would be if you were to rip the slideshow as a QT movie file and extracted those frames that way. Only the screenshot will probably be of a better image quality.

  • Mirgating AD to New Domain from 2012R2 to 2008R2

    Hi All,
    I have a Windows server 2012 R2 Data center with AD-DNS integrated with FFL & DFL windows 2012 R2. Now due to some compatibility issues, we want to install Window 2008 R2 standard with out much effecting users & Computers joined in AD.
    Is there a ADMT tool which support migration from win 2012 to win 2008.
    Any other ways to migrate to moves AD from Win 2012 to Win 2008.
    Will seizeing FSMO roles from win 2012 to Win 2008  (in which Win 2008 is domain joined server.
    -Many Thanks in Advance
    -Akash Kiran

    Hi Akash,
    The Latest version available is ADMT 3.2 and it is supported in windows 2008 R2. I haven't come
    across any updates for the availability of the new version to support windows 2012.
    When you migrate to a Windows Server 2012 domain, install ADMT 3.2 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 server that can operate as the migration computer. You have to have a Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controller in the target environment.
    Source: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2753560/en-us?wa=wsignin1.0
    But as you said the FFL and DFL is already set to 2012, you cannot have a 2008 domain controller in your
    environment to perform the migration using ADMT.
    After you set the domain functional level to a certain value, you cannot roll back or lower the domain functional level, with the following exceptions: when you raise the domain functional level to Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012, and if the
    forest functional level is Windows Server 2008 or lower, you have the option of rolling the domain functional level back to Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2. You can lower the domain functional level only from Windows Server 2012 to Windows Server
    2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008 or from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2008. If the domain functional level is set to Windows Server 2008 R2, it cannot be rolled back, for example, to Windows Server 2003.

  • Going backwards from 10.4.6 to 10.4.5... Is this possible?

    10.4.6 broke an important application... Is there an easy way to get back to 10.4.5 or 10.4.4?
    Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

    Which application and what does broke mean?
    The only way to revert to a previous OS X version is via an Archive & Install using your Tiger install package and you can select preserve user and network settings.
    If your Tiger install package includes an earlier version than 10.4.5, after doing so run Software Update or better yet, download the 10.4.5 Combo Update to get the OS to 10.4.5 only.

    I am setting up my new iphone4 and am trying to transfer all of the contacts etc from my old iphone 3GS.After linking it with itunes the screen has shown 'restore in progress' for almost 24 hours with time remaining going backwards. Is this normal? Should I let it continue?

    No, that is not normal. I guess you are trying to restore from the latest backup created by your old 3GS?

  • DHCP - From 1 Domain (2008r2) to another Domain (2012r2)

    Hello Everyone.
    For the sake of convenience and management simplification, my company is moving from 3 WinServer 2008r2 domains to a forest situation which will be 2012.  I would like to be able to copy the ADUC information from DC1.2008.old to DC1.2012.new as much
    as possible.  I would like to find some assistance with copying DNS, DHCP, and ADUC (where possible).  Most places I have looked deal with a migration from 2008 to 2012 in the same domain.  This is different because the domains are different.
     Does anyone have a suggestion?
    Thanks for the help.
    BJC

    Hi,
    No tool needed. In case the DHCP server holds different other roles (like file server,etc) you can migrate this like any other computer using the ADMT. If it is just a dhcp server you can either export DB , then migrate the server re-authorize and import
    configuration or you can just create a new server inside destination forest install DHCP role configure scopes and make it available for the clients and decommission old one.
    Just remember that if you are using Dynamic DNS registration for the windows computers in the AD-integrated zones, you might face issues with DNS resolution once computers are migrated because they start registering in the target domain DNS zone.

  • SYSDATE is Going Backward

    Hi All,
    I am creating a very simple way to keep track the timing for my processing as the following; however, the timestamp is going backward, any clues?
    My Oracle version is 11g.
    PROCEDURE xyz
    IS
    l_timestamp VARCHAR2(100);
    BEGIN
       SELECT to_char(sysdate,  'mm/dd/yyyy hh24:mm:ss') INTO l_timestamp FROM DUAL;
       INSERT INTO timetracking VALUES ('merging data',  l_timestamp);
       COMMIT;
       MERGE INTO ....;
       COMMIT;
       SELECT to_char(sysdate,  'mm/dd/yyyy hh24:mm:ss') INTO l_timestamp FROM DUAL;
       INSERT INTO timetracking VALUES ('completed',  l_timestamp);
       COMMIT;
    END;
    the process completed around 30-40 mins, and the result from the timetracking table stored as:
    action                time
    ====               ====
    merging data      04/13/2012 14:04:57
    completed         04/13/2012 14:04:47     <==== What is going on here ????Any clues?

    Look at your format mask. Note the difference between 'mm' and 'mm'.I assume you meant "the difference between 'mm' and 'mi'"... Either that, or you're being very clever!
    user4184769 - What orafad is pointing out is that 'mm' gives you the month and 'mi' gives you the minutes. So if your format mask is 'yyyy/mm/dd hh24:mm:ss', you're getting the months where you logically expect the minutes. You almost certainly want 'hh24:mi:ss'.

    I am trying to uninstall itunes and at thepiont where I try to remove apple mobile device support it never completes the timer goes backwards?

    First try a repair install of Apple Mobile Device Support. If that goes through successfully, see if you can now uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support.
    If the Repair install doesn't help, try using the fixit from the following Microsoft document to remove Apple Mobile Device Support:

    I created an album in iPhoto and every time I click on slideshow it plays the pictures backwards from the order in the album. How do I change that?

    When running a slideshow from an album it will not run properly if the photos are sorted manually.  Sort them by any of the other options, title, date, rating, etc. and it will play correctly.
    Send a report of the problem to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
    If you must sort them manually create the slideshow in the slideshow mode in iPhoto, not from an album.

    I'm not sure, but I know it's not recommended to upgrade to iOS 8 on anything older than an iPhone 5. I only lost my music playlists and music that was on my phone, but that music is also on my iTunes, not the playlists though, and I don't want to go through ALL my iTunes library to fix it either... But it seems I don't have a choice right now.
    Whatever you do, do NOT upgrade to iCloud Drive, keep iCloud till OS X Yosemite comes out, if your computer is a Mac. I also just noticed that all my documents on my phone are gone from Pages, BUT if I go on the iCloud website they are still there. Hopefully it will all work itself out when I can update my macbook pro to OS X Yosemite.
    If you backed up your phone and all your purchases off your iPhone prior to trying to upgrade you should be fine... But I'm not even remotely sure.

  • How could I create a "Linked Server" link from SQL Server 2008R2 64-Bit to Oracle Database 11.2 64-Bit?

    How could I create a "Linked Server" link from SQL Server 2008R2 64-Bit to Oracle Database 11.2 64-Bit?
    Let's say the SQL Server and Oracle Database are in the same Company Internet Network.
    I have the code, but I do not know how to use it. Such as what is System DSN Name? Where could I get it. What does it look like?
    Do I need to install any Oracle Client Software in order to link from SQL Server to Oracle? Or SQL Server has the built-in drivers installed already that I can directly create a Linked Server from SQL Server to Oracle?
    I need to know details. Thanks.
    USE master
    go
    EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
         @server  = '{Linked Server Name}'
        ,@srvproduct = '{System DSN Name}'
        ,@provider  = 'MSDASQL'
        ,@datasrc  = '{System DSN Name}'
    EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin
         @rmtsrvname = '{Linked Server Name}'
        ,@useself  = 'False'
        ,@locallogin = NULL
        ,@rmtuser  = '{Oracle User Name}'
        ,@rmtpassword = '{Oracle User Password}'

    You need an OLE DB provider for Oracle. There is one that ships with Windows, but it only supports very old versions of Oracle. Oracle has an OLE DB provider that you can use. I don't know if it's part of Oracle Client or how it is bundled.
    You should not use MSDASQL or any DSN.

  • Raising Functional level - From 2003 to 2008R2

    Recently I have completed the AD upgrade from 2003 to 2012. Now all sites have 2012 DCs only. Next i plans to raise the functional level of both Forest and Domain from 2003 t0 2008R2.
    I want to know the things to take care before doing this upgrade.

    hi,
    if you are only using 2012 DC's that you may want to go straight to 2012 functional level. The functional level change is generally classed as low impact and simply tells AD it can use all it's additional features.
    There is no real roll back if any issues are caused during or after the change, so you need to ensure you have full backups and are aware of the forest recovery process. Make sure you have spoken to all your software vendors whose software integrates with
    AD before doing the change to ensure that it won't affect the running of this software.
    There is a very good article here from the MS Directory team on the process and the impact.

    I have removed all apple software from my laptop using CCleaner, common files and folders. Tried reinstalling and still the same error.
    Could you offer any advice on how to get both quicktime and then iTunes working??
