Going completely computer-free -- how to backup photos?

My sister-in-law, who is not very fluent when it comes to computers and technology, will be going "computer free" soon and buy an iPad mini. (She will get rid of her clunk old Windows machine.) She only does simple email, Skype, and downloads photos from her digital camera to her PC to look at. I think an iPad mini would be great for her.
I know that iCloud backups up almost all of key data, email, etc. The key challenge, though, will be how to backup photos that she takes with her digital camera, uploads to her iPad, and then deletes the photos on her camera (to save space).
I also know that PhotoStream backups up photos taken taken from the iPad. However, I think she could eventually run into these issues:
1) If she take more than 1000 photos (unlikely, but could happen)
2) When you import photos using the Camera Connection Kit, the photos do not go into the Camera Roll (they go in the "Last Import" and "All Imported" albums) and thus do not automatically get backed up. You can select the photos and then click Share --> PhotoStream, but she may forget to do this.
I'd like to find a solution that would back up all her photos automatically on her iPad to a cloud service. The closest I could find is the iDrive Photo app, but you have to manually start it each time and select the photos to backup. Dropbox does automatic backup, but only the Camera Roll.
Anyone have any good ideas?
Thanks,
Tony

Photo Manager Pro.
1. You can sort your photos by dragging them around
2. Import photos using W-Fi
3. Import photos using File Sharing
4. Run slide show with music
5. Email more than 5 photos at one go
6. Hide photos in passcode protected folder

You back ip up before it is disabled…
You regularly sync photos to your computer.
    How exactly is it “disabled”?

  • HT201302 how to backup photo besides camera roll? (iPad 2, 4.3.3)

I've seen many post said plug in your devices, right click and import, Thats only import my photo in camera roll, i've created few albums inside, and how to backup those albums i created?

Updating will not cause you to lose data but things can always go wrong. You should definitely backup before you update. I assume you have music on the device that was not purchased in iTunes and synced with a different iTunes library. You can transfer these songs back to your computer with third party software such as TouchCopy.

  • How to backup photo from iphone 4 to new computer..

    Hi there,
I had a macbook which is sync with my iphone 4..All my data is already sync to the iphone..
After that, i decided to sell my macbook and i purchased a new Computer..
And then i wanna backup all the photo from my Iphone to the new Computer..
    But the problem is ,
Is usually when we sync with the computer, All the data from New Computer will move to the Iphone , replace everything and all the photo from the Iphone will be gone??
    Or,
The photo from my iphone will transfer to that new computer ?
    Thx so much

I don't know about MacBook, but when I plug my iphone into my windows HP laptop a message pops up (part of AutoPlay).  It asks which action I would like to take.  I would open the folder (device) to view files.  Then you can locate any or all your photos from your device and manually import them to a file you create on your new computer.  In Itunes, do not select sync photos.  You are correct, this will import itunes photos back on your iphone.  If you do not get an autoplay message, you can locate your device by finding it through your drives (C is for your computer, F is for a DVD -- at least on mine).
    I hope this helps.

  • HOw to backup photos on an external drive

I have an Imac and i store my photos on an external drive.
I just purchased a second external drive to use as a backup for the photo external drive. I plan to use Time Machine to backup the Imac.
How do I backup the photos on the external drive to the second external drive
    thanks

Yes, dragging them over should do nicely. As for formatting, this is the procedure I use and an explanation as to why. It's slanted toward preparing a drive for Time Machine backups, but it doesn't hurt to do the same for any drive you will be using with the Mac OS. "Glasses", Kappy, and V.K. might have some other suggestions as well.
*_How Should a Time Machine Hard Disk be Prepared?_*
For Time Machine to work properly, the hard disk must be formatted “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)” and its’ Partition Scheme should be either GUID or Apple Partition Map.
Time Machine is incompatible with disks partitioned as Master Boot Record (MBR). Unfortunately, this describes nearly every hard drive you can buy because MBR is a Windows partition scheme. (Naturally, this DOES NOT apply to Apples’ Time Capsule.)
For some, Time Machine begins to perform as expected with a new external hard disk. But then the initial full backup or subsequent incremental backups fail. The user only later discovers the hard disk was still partitioned as Master Boot Record (MBR).
One article on Time Machine made this observation: “Virtually everybody will have to open Disk Utility and repartition the disk as APM or GUID. It doesn't really matter which one because the Time Machine disk will not be bootable anyway. APM allows a disk to boot a PowerPC, GUID allows the disk to boot an Intel processor but both are easily digestible by Time Machine on either kind of processor.” [http://www.girr.org/mac_stuff/backups.html]
It’s been recommended by many here that your reserve +at least+ double the size of your primary hard disk, that way Time Machine backups have room to grow as the size of your data grows. Additionally, the more space you give Time Machine the more history it can preserve. The less space you reserve for Time Machine the sooner older backups & deleted items will disappear.
One poster recommended this regarding multiple partitions: “If you do create multiple partitions (half and half would be a good place to start), make sure you use the first partition for Time Machine, and the second for your own stuff (the first one will be on top in the graphical representation shown in Disk Utility; you'll understand when you see the partition tab). This way, you can expand the Time Machine volume at any later time by deleting the second partition. Disk Utility allows this dynamic re-sizing of volumes, but volumes can only be expanded toward the end of the drive, when a volume that comes after is deleted to create the room.” [http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1712437&tstart=0]
    Procedure
Connect the hard disk you wish to use for Time Machine backups.
    Launch Disk Utility.
It will appear twice in the pane on the left. (Make sure you recognize that it is different from the 2 icons that represent your Macs' internal drive.) The upper entry represent the device as a whole, including the controller inside. The lower entry represents the hard disk contained within the device.
Click on the upper icon of the external hard disk.
    Select the "Partition" tab.
For "Volume Scheme" choose "1 partition". (Choose 2 partitions if you intend on storing other data on the disk besides your Time Machine backups. Ensure that the two partitions have different names.)
    Name the disk.
Format should be "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)".
    Click "Options".
Select either GUID or Apple Partition Map. (See above for significance)
    Click "OK".
    Click "Apply". Then click “Partition”.
Once the external hard disk is repartitioned, select it again in Time Machine preferences and use it for your backups. If you chose to create 2 partitions, then select the first partition for Time Machine backups, and the second for additional files/folders.
Let us know if this was helpful.
    Cheers!

  • How to backup photos from 2-ext HDs to a larger ext HD and keep catalogs in line?

Currently have CS6, Bridge, PS Elements 10.  Have upgraded Elements right along.  I have 2-500GB ext port HD's where I store all my photos as I take them.  They are both nearly full.  I want to start using a 2TB port HD.  I would like to copy the contents of the two 500GB HD's to the 2TB.  I'm concerned about the catalogs.  Should I copy from Windows Explorer, PS Elements or how so that when I open the 2TB HD all the photos will display in  PS Elements.  OR should I be doing something different all together?

You did not mention if you have a single catalog to manage the photo files on your two external drives ? Or do you use several catalogs ?
Have you another external (or internal) drive where you could backup your catalogs ? With such an important library I suppose you have backups.
Supposing you have a single catalog for all the photos on both of your external drive, the safer and simpler way would be to create a backup on an external media and restore it on custom location to the new hard drive. (It is not recommended to store the backup on the same destination drive for speed and safety reasons)

  • HT1766 how to backup photos from photo library?

i have uploaded photos from another pc and i want to backup those photos to my pc what is the process?

Photos synced to your phone are not included in any iPhone backup, nor can you import them, as the photo sync is one-way: Computer to phone.
You can ignore Jiaman's post, as it won't help you.
To get these photos off your phone requires third-party software, like this:

  • How to backup Photos

I want to make a backup copy of the photos that are in iPhoto on my MacBook Pro.  I have an external drive connected by USB.  Do I drag the iPhoto library to the external hard drive icon?  Does the external drive have to be formatted for MAC OS?  I don't want to run iPhoto from the external drive I just want to keep copies of the photos.  Then if I need those copies of the photos do I just move the iPhoto Library file back to my MacBook Pro?

    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • How to backup photos that were synced to iPad?

My computer crashed but my photos were synced to the ipad2". Now I need to back them p and move them to the new computer.  What is the easiest way to do this?

Plug the iPad into the new computer. You do not need itunes for this.
Either you will have a popup come up, as the computer recognizes your iPad as a camera. choose to 'open folder to explore device' (Phrased something like that) and then naviate to the DCIM folder and drag and drop your photos off the iPad.
Alternatively, with the iPad connected go to 'my computer', navigate to your iPad and it's DCIM folder, drag and drop the photos out of that folder and onto your computer.

  • Unable to unlock phone -- How to backup photos when touch is not working

    Hello Experts,
My HTC 8X running windows phone 8.1 update (dev Preview) had some password unlock attempts in my pocket and now its currently on the screen where its asking me to enter A1B2C3 to try to enter the password again.
My problem is that the left side of the touch screen is not responding so i am unable to type 'A1'
Is there ANY way I can unlock my phone and take a backup of the pictures on it.
I don't want to reset my phone as I have very important pics on it and I didn't turn on the auto upload feature of pictures to OneDrive.
Please help as I really cannot reset my phone and delete the pictures.
Please note that the phone is getting detected on the computer but I am unable to see the storage to do a backup.
    Thanks in advance
    Digvijay
    Thanks, Digvijay Nath

    Hi everybody.
I have the same issue on a Nokia Lumia 925. Yesterday the screen stopped working, due to an accident. The phone is locked with a NIP so I cannot unlock it and when I connect it to the PC I cannot see its data, which is not saved on OneDrive by the way. The
Windows Phone App on Windows 8 asks me to unlock the phone to see its content, but I cannot do that since the screen is broken, and the Windows Explorer on Windows 8 (and XP also) recognizes the phone correctly but cannot display any of the files on it. It
    says the device is empty.
I understand that I need to send my phone to have its screen replaced or fixed, but I sure do not want to delete its files, and would like to backup them before I send away my phone, specially the pics and videos. Maybe on these months you have come up with
a way to do that I guess?
    Thanks in advance, regards.

  • Just changed hardrives on my computer. How can I reference my photos and backups from my old HDD?

I just switched my HDD for a SDD on my laptop. All files on my old HDD are still intact, the backups and photos are all in the same place. I will be using the HDD as an external hardrive. What is the best way to reference my photos and backups in lightroom that I reinstalled on my SDD?

I do apologize if I am still missing what I am supposed to follow on that
link, but I don't think it applies to me.I may not have explained fully
what I am trying to accomplish. I have a laptop computer, I replaced my HDD
with an SSD then I replaced my my optical drive with my old HDD. I am
storing all of my software and OS on the SSD, so i reinstalled creative
cloud and lightroom on the SSD. I am storing all of my documents on my hard
drive. So right now when I open lightroom on my new SSD there are no
pictures, because its a fresh install of the software on my new rive. On my
HDD i still have all of my photos, backups, and even software. I am in the
process of deleting the OS and software off of the HDD and software files.
Before I do that I want to make sure that I have transferred everything
that I am going to need. How can I get my pics on my new version of
lightroom? Thanks again for the help.

  • How do I retrieve my music library after a complete computer crash.  I have a backup on a flash drive and I can access my Itunes account but my play lists and music are gone.

How do you retrieve downloaded music and playlists after a complete computer crash.  I can log into my Itunes account and make purchases but my music library is gone.  I have an external backup on a flash drive but for some reason the music does not show up there either. It's like I have a brand new account and have to start all over.  Itunes must have an archive I can access to get my music back, right?
    Maya

Playlists should be part of your backup copy.
You can redownload some purchases in some countries:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
