Going for Second Hand

Some of my friends use to ask me to buy a second hand Nokia mobile phone for them. I use to check some shops for abovesaid. How can check those mobiles which is in good condition? the Battery works better or not? How long charge will stay? How can make out mobile phone is worth for buying as a second hand?
Hope any Mobile guru will answer for this question..
Thank you.

There will always be a risk involved with this, you should always make sure the phone is fully working with a sim card before you buy it, make sure it connects to the network.
It's hard to say for certain about the batteries, but they're not expensive to replace, so I would always suggest they 'prepare' to have to buy a replacement.
If it looks or sounds too good to be true, there's probably something wrong with it.
Also, one of the other risks involved with buying second hand, is that there's nothing stopping the previous owner from reporting the handset stolen afterwards, which will result in the handset being barred and unusable... It's up to you at the end of the day, I would always try and go with a new handset.Message Edited by richcowell on 20-Aug-2006

  • Hard disk for second-hand 13" early-2011 mbp (2.7 hz i7, 8gb ram)

i might be able to get hold of a cheap, second-hand 13" early-2011 macbook pro, specs are 2.7 ghz core i7 with 8 gb ram. it will not come with a hard disk.
i'm thinking of asking a friend to help install the harddrive but as far as i know he's not a mac user. do you know if this mbp can accept any generic hard disk? are there any restrictions as to what can be used and is there anything he should be aware of?

First, you're going to need a hard drive. Currently, for the MBP, you can choose from three types of drives. SATA drives (for the current MBP, SATA-3) a reliable and come in two speeds, 5400 or 7200RPM. SSDs are solid state drives, and can be fast and reliable. Hybrid drives are a cross between the two types.
Several sites will provide you with video tutorials on installing the drive. OWC has a variety of helper tutorials.
Once you get the drive, you're going to have to install the operating system. Currently, the OS is downloaded via internet, but you can still find copies of an older OS on eBay that comes on DVDs.

  • How can I obtain OS X and OS 9.2.2 Install CD's for second hand iMac??

    Hello All you Mac users!
I have always wanted a Mac and recently purchased a used iMac from Ebay for a good price, lovely condition beautifull machine. It came with OS X 10.2.8 loaded and fully functioning but with NO CD's or DVD for the OS. Having used the iMac and successfully got wireless and hooked up email and internet I have now realised that I must obtain OS discs before getting too seriously in love with iMac. Also there is no Classic OS 9 on the machine JUST OS X 10.2.8. Ideally I would like CD's or DVD's (have ext LG DVD writer on firewire working fine to read DVD) so as to restore the classic and also migrate to OS X tiger latest. Which discs do I need to hunt down and purchase? All this full, part, restore, upgrade, degrade, machine specific CD's or DVD's in Mac world is quite confusing for an Microsoft Intel Windows XP defector!! Advice gratefully received.

    Hello kfpkelly,
welcome to the world of Macs!
iMac G3 flower power, a beautiful machine indeed, congratulations!
OK your Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) was installed from a purchased retail CD. Do not reformat now or you would lose it, as it did not come with the iMac originally.
Your iMac originally came with Mac OS 9, and the original install CDs should be with the computer when you bought it.
It is this CD set that you have to look for, if you need to reinstall Mac OS 9. There is a way to get them from Apple Support, after you registered and give serial number and, I guess it is not free...
Migrate to OS X Tiger latest:
This one is the easy part. As Mac OS X 10.4 is a new operating system, even coming from Jaguar (10.2) or Panther (10.3), there is no other way but to simply purchase it.
    Enjoy your Mac!

  • Apple care - for second hand

    Hi,
I live in Canada. My cousin, living in the US, gave me his ipod mini. He bought refurbished one last december.
I would like to purchase apple care under my name in Canada at the student discount price since I am a student here. Is this possible?

Is it still within the complimentary one-year warranty period? You can only purchase the extended Applecare plan while you're within that period, so if it's over a year old, then you can't buy the Applecare - otherwise, it should be no problem.
    Cheers!

  • Looking for a second hand iMac - any tips please?

    Hi All
Due to work I have primarily been to the dark side in the last few years, with just a Mk 1 Mac Mini for my photos and videos. Its almost crawling now, so its time for an iMac I think.
I don't want anything too crazy, but I wasn't sure what amount of RAM would be good to run Snow Leopard? I wouldn't be doing any crazy photoshop stuff, maybe a bit of HD stuff in iMovie plus the usual iTunes & iPhoto usage, but I have no idea how much Snow Leopard really needs to run smooth with a few apps open.
I run an online business and in the end I switched back to PC as I've always found Macs to be pretty slow for browsing, I'm guessing thats probably changed now?
Anyway, any help or advice would be great. I'm probably gonna look for second hand so any suggestions (eBay UK etc) would be great!
    Many thanks
    Mark

I'd really suggest just looking at Apple's refurb selection. Couple hundred off the top, same warranty, and you know you're going to be getting something of quality. Buy off a place like ebay, you never know what you're going to end up with. There are probably a lot of honest sellers on ebay, but it just takes one not so honest person to really ruin things for you.
And Snow Leopard actually runs pretty well on 2GB of RAM. Runs reasonably well on only 1GB actually, but 2GB gets into the fabled "butter zone". I'd suggest probably 3-4GB if you're going to be doing any kind of video editing.
So any 2009 21.5" iMac should fit the bill nicely for you.

  • SC not going for reapproval

    Hi there,
SRM 5.0 and SP10 after SP upgrade facing following porblme ( this is reckon) if anybody facing same problem please correct me whetehr tis problem of SP or other
Shopping cart with two lines one of them is rejected by approver. Shopper cannot amend line so adds Line 3 in the SC. However on saving cart this
    a) does not go back for approval even though value increased and
    b) all items including the rejected item appear on PO.
    Any clue...
    looking for your help

    HI there,
BBP_WFL_SECURITY parameter was maintaiend to 'medium' intially I have changed to 'low' and its woking now meaing the shopping cart is going to reapproval. But the rejected item is also going for second time to approver.
    Scenario is like.
    1. created sc with 3 lines.
    2. Line 2nd is rejected by approver.
    3. shopper getting the rejected sc and he click on ' change' adding line no 4 a new line and cilck on 'transfer cahnges'
4.NOW the approver's inbox is showing all the four lines including initially one which was rejected. The requirment is that the rejected line should not go to approver. Is it possible???
I am aware of the work around where the rejected line can be deleted in the SC and then send for approval but looking for any other option if availble and standard.
    regards

  • Dear Friends...... I have an ipad 2 32gb with wifi and 3g enabled sim..... i bought it second hand .... and now if am going to download any games it is showing me an email id and asking for its password... please guide me how can i change this setting

Dear Friends...... I have an ipad 2 32gb with wifi and 3g enabled sim..... i bought it second hand .... and now if am going to download any games it is showing me an email id and asking for its password... please guide me how can i change this setting to my email id and password

Tap on the id in Settings > Store and log out of it and then login with your id. Any content already on the iPad will be tied to the previous owner's id and it can't be copied or transferred to your id - so it's probably best to do restore the iPad back to factory defaults and start as from new with it : Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Contents And Settings

  • I have bought a second hand ipod 4, but it has the previous owners details all over it, for example it has her email address when trying to update facebook.  How do I update it with my email address?

I have just purchased a second hand ipod touch 4.  The previous owners details are still in it, so for example when I try to update the facebook app it asks me for the previous owners password, and shows the previous owners email address.  How do I change it all to my details?  I have already synced it with itunes and all of my music is now in it, and it's also renamed on the itunes page when I attach the ipod to my PC.  I've also been in to the 'info' page, 'Advanced' and then 'Replace information on this ipod with mail accounts from this computer' then finally 'apply', but it still has the other persons ID.

I've answered my own question!  I now understand that you can't use apps as they are always going to be linked to the original owner.  I've since deleted the app and downloaded it again, and all is now well!

The Apple ID and Password that was Originally used to Activate the iDevice is required.
If you cannot get this information from the seller
Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
You need to return the Device for a refund, as you will not be able to re-activate it.

  • Regarding IOS 7 activation lock.  For people who are not early adopter or wealthy, relying on second hand purchase to own an IOS 7 device, has any consideration been given? Online purchases are routine.  In good faith, many will now suffer for not knowing

I am part of the second hand market, non early adopter, that's trying to use an IOS 7 device.  I just bought an Ipod touch 5th gen and an Iphone 5 with IOS 7 and quickly learn that I've just lost many hundreds of dollars because of the activation lock.  Of course, I should have known better...be smarter, etc.  Now I have two bricks, basically fancy Apple product that're now junks.  With IOS 7 and the activation lock, isn't Apple concerns that they will soon frustrate a lot of new and existing users and will also be known for creating increasing number of junk (brick) devices.

    Hi Tilnow,
The hope is that the activation lock will deter future thieves. Apple has long been inundated with irate customers who have had their devices lost or stolen, and who are then angry that Apple cannot protect their phone from would-be thieves.
With the new security measures, unless the owner of the phone turns off Find My iPhone, and wipes the phone completely, it is unusable to anyone but that original owner.
I'm sorry you have had such an unfortunate experience with your purchases, but these security measures are as much to protect you from purchasing a stolen phone from an unscrupulous seller as it is to protect a phone you own from being stolen.
Is there no way you can contact the seller(s) and have them turn off Find My iPhone and wipe the device for you?
Going forward, it is the best policy for you to ensure that the seller has done both of these things. If they cannot, then you know that they are probably not on the up and up.
    Best of luck going forward,
    Cheers,

  • I have bought an iMAC second hand but when updates to purchased (not by me) Apps I cannot download the updates as it is asking for the original owners password. How can I amend this or could I delete the Apps and download new ones in place under my email

If the machine was upgraded to Lion 10.7.x by the original owner then you bought an illegal license of Lion and also of any other applications that the seller  said came pre-installed, this assumes the seller did not include original install media. In that case you need to contact the seller for the original install DVDs that came with the machine re-install up to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and then purchase Mountain Lion ($20) and the applications you want or need. If the seller cannot come up with the original install discs then you can buy them from a nominal cost from AppleCare..

please could somebody help in this context.

You've encountered Activation Lock. Read here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13695
Without that info, you won't be able to re-activate the phone. Apple can't/won't help you with this.
