Going from droid to iPhone

I have had a droid for the last two years. We recently bought a mac and mac pro laptop.
Since we are verizon customers and due for an upgrade, we are considering the iPhone.
1. We hear the 5 is coming, so wait.
2. Will the iphone have different screens like the droid, showing weather and a clock. Or do you just scroll through your apps?

You'll most likely be waiting until next year since it's highly unlikely that Apple will release a new Verizon phone this summer considering the current phone will only be a few months old.

Why not go to a store and play with an iPhone and see how it differs from a droid?

Update on transferring photos from Droid to iPhone

I'd like to share some information on transferring photos from an old Droid to iPhone 5, a problem I've wrestled with for the last few days. Even though I got some good tips, and have learned that I'm not the only person with this particular problem, I still had no success making the transfer. In desperation (thinking I'd get no help) I called 1-800-734-5870, the Motorola help line. Was bumped up to "level 2" of problem-solving and was told that a possible solution might be to use a USB connector cord specifically made for Motorola phones (I'm not sure the one I've been using is that type). The rep is sending me a courtesy cord to use to see if that will make a difference -- if no, t I'm supposed to call Motorola back. My point is that the Motorola people were exceptionally nice, especially considering I'll no longer be using their phone. I did not get this type of support from the Apple help line. Will send an update if this simple "cord fix" works!

Thanks for the prompt reply, Roaminggnome. I have to say, though, that the answer, while not unexpected, is disappointing. The iPhone is, like the iPad, a data storage device as well as a cellular phone. One can store and retrieve music, contacts, documents, presentations in Keynote, videos, podcasts, and a host of things on it. And one can also store photos, which can be transferred from a digital camera or media card via a computer or iCloud. So why, one has to wonder, would Apple not provide an alternative, and more direct, way to upload pictures from a camera without requiring the intermediary of a computer, as it does with the iPad? But I guess that's what we're stuck with. Puzzling, for a company as innovative as Apple. Surely they know that folks are asking these questions.

Lost features going from Droid to iPhone5. Is there an app for that? I have lost 2 features that I really loved on my Droid.

I have lost some features that I loved about my Droid when I made the switch. The first is the ability to view the next several calendar items I have on the home screen instead of touching the calendar to see these events. The next is the widget feature where I can just touch the picture associated with a person to call. Are there apps that can help with one or both of these features? I am almost ready to switch back.

What is your current smartphone? I moved from a Treo 600 runing PalmOS. The Treo did a lot the iPhone doesn't; so much that I got a Palm T|X so I wouldn't have to give some of them up. In terms of features, here's how the stack up:
Size and weight: iPhone.
Screen: iPhone wins easily.
Keyboard: A tie. Quite different, but both equally usable.
Camera: Edge to the iPhone.
Photo album: A tie.
Google Maps: A tie.
Clock: iPhone built in is better, but WorldMate 3rd party app on Treo beats it by a wide margin.
Calculator: Treo, because you can add some very advanced calculators.
Calendar: Treo with Pimlico Software's Datebk6 rocks; iPhone is very basic.
Web browser: iPhone wins by such a large margin that I can justify the iPhone on that alone, and I'm willing to give up a lot to have it. A lot of the apps I use on the Treo are available as webapps on the iPhone (e.g., Zagat guide).
Email: Treo wins easily with Snappermail; many more options for setup, filtering, different sigs for each email account, ability to limit the amount downloaded for each incoming message (essential when traveling internationally).
Office documents: Treo wins because it can edit them. iPhone can only view them, and then only if they arrive by email. But the viewer is good.
The biggest difference is the 20,000 apps (roughly) available for the Treo. I have 60 of them; that's why I got the TX. Come mid-Summer I expect a number of 3rd party apps will start to come available; I may eventually be able to retire the Palm.

HT4623 The software update option is not on my phone. It just goes from "about" to "usage". I have an iPhone 3G. Every time I try to update it on iTunes, nothing changes. I have version 4.2.1, no matter what I do. Any suggestions?

I have an iPhone 3G, and cannot update my iOS. In the General tab, "Upadate Software" is not even there. It just goes from "About" to "Usage". When I try to update on iTunes, it always remains the same. iOS 4.2.1. Any suggestions? (My PC uses Windows XP). Also, my WiFi has completely quit working. Works fine on the other iPhones in the house, as well as the XBox 360, so I am sure it's my phone. I tried everything I could think of, including restoring the iphone to factory settings & then updating, but no luck. Thank you! for any help you can give! I plan to get an iPhone 5, but wasn't ready to do it quite yet. Hopefully my phone can be rescued until I'm ready.

That is the highest you will be able to go with 3g. You need 3gs or 4 to go any higher (multi processors and more memory needed). Version 4.2.1 marks the end of your updates for that device.

Yes you can probably delete the 2 incomplete back ups they are unlikely to work.
However, I'd be inclined to back up to a computer as well and restore from there, if you are changing your phone.

if my iPhone 5s battery is going from 9% and then to 1% is that something i should worry about or not?

Battery problems normally do not appear in the Usage and Diagnostics content. If you want, it never hurts to make an appointment and take the iPhone to your Apple store genius bar and have it tested. That would give peace of mind if it is nothing, or give you options if there is a problem. The techs have the tools to find out for sure if something is going on.
