Going from Dual boot to total Mac OS Question

I'm reformatting my Dual boot system to a total mac OS. Should I install my music programs on my main Mac HD, ( I already have mainly art programs on my Mac HD), Or, should I install them on the reformatted HD?
Logic Pro 9 is already installed on my Mac HD.

arrays are only to be done with identical drives - make/model and revision
something else may be wrong for them to take so long, assuming you turn off the energy saver setting to spin down drives when not in use which you would cause 20 seconds or more for a drive to spin back up
40GB is about average for Mac OS, so it fits on a SSD and instant response
if they are more than two years old consider using for backup and archive only and see if you can invest in any such as one for timemachine, use the 700 for clone and 1TB for data
Windows on its own drive too or split an SSD - Samsung 840 240GB $170 would hold both nicely, 100GB each OS

  • After romoving Ubuntu from dual boot

    I recently removed ubuntu from dual booting. Before, it asked me which OS I would like to run when my PC started up. It showed two options, Windows and Ubuntu. After I removed Ubuntu it still stops at that screen but only Windows is there. How can I make it so it skips that startup and loads windows automatically without me having to click it.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I believe if you only have one option left on the boot menu you probably won't have that screen. And I suspect you were using the WuBi installation.
    Use EasyBCD http://neosmart.net/EasyBCD/ to change the Windows Vista/7 boot settings.

  • Dual-boot Lion/SL, Mac App Store has Conflict

    I decided to dual-boot my MBP17" (8,3) with SL to add OS Lion.
    In Lion when I signed in to the Mac App store, it recognized apps on the SL partition, and wouldn't let me download them for Lion! It only allows for updates!
    Suggestions on dealing with this, besides deleting Mac App store apps from my SL partition?

    I've not tried this, but I think it shoud work.
    When you want to get something from the App store, boot from the Lion partition and unmount the Snow Leopard partition.  It will be as if you have only a single boot machine.
    Open Disk Utility, select the Snow Leopard partition and chose the "unmount" option.  At that point the OS can access nothing on the unmounted partition.  To get it back (mount it), you can either reboot or again use Disk Utility and select the unmounted partition and choose Mount.

    Many apps are "self-contained" and so can run from any partition.  So you could just move the apps to one location so that you can run and update them from either.  (As long as the apps did NOT have to be "installed".)
    So you partitioned your one internal hard drive?  You could also install OSX to an external hard drive.  Then turn of that hard drive when not booted to it.
    Is there some old apps you need, which is why you must still use SL?  If so, SL that is what I would put on the external hard drive.  Since it is apps you wouldn't be able to update anyway, putting SL on the external drive just for the things that can't run in Lion makes sense, since you can turn it off when not needed.  Otherwise, if you're holding on to SL "just in case", then eventually I suggest to take the leap and move completely over to Lion when you're ready, which obviously removes the need to dual boot.
    (I realize you have a Macbook Pro, so an external HD is not ideal.  But there are many physically small HDs that aren't too inconvinient, especially if you get a Firewire bus powered drive.  And you have a 17" MBP so I'm assuming size and weight aren't an absolute, top-most, high-ranking priority. )

  • Trying to dual boot Windows 7, Mac Pro 3 (2008) doesn't recognize USB boot drive

    My system has no optical drive either.  I've managed to set up the boot drive in VMWare fusion, and I've confirmed that the boot drive is correctly formatted, because it shows up on my MBP.  I've tried blessing this hard drive, I've tried boot camping my way in, but the Mac Pro 2008 model seems adamant about only going via disk.  Any super user commands to get my usb thumb drive recognized at option-restart time?

    UPDATE:  Last night, I installed Windows 7 next to Yosemite on my MBP.  Copied the Windows partion to my external, and then tried to copy that partition on the external to my MP.  No success, probably because MBP and MP have different drivers?
    You will need to use Winclone to move images from one Mac to a different Mac if there are any hardware differences. It is a commercial tool.
    Please see https://twocanoes.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/202814148-Migrating-a-Boot-Camp- Partition-with-Winclone-4
    It requires a Sysprep on the source first to remove any HW-specific parts and make it a proper image to move it to a different HW platform. Once you have this migrated, you will need to reactivate Windows and install the appropriate Windows drivers which will support your MP-specific HW.

  • In need of help going from Windows SAP GUI to Mac/Java SAP GUI 7.20

    Hi Everyone, first post...I want to thank you in advance for any assistance you are able to provide.
    I got everything working except for 1 out of 6 servers I need to connect to - of course this is the most important one.
    It all comes down to the conversion of saplogon.ini to the new file format, instead of using the GUI to make a list I have created 6 individual .sapc files that I run directly. I found some converters but only had so much success with them, nothing solid and 100% full proof.
    I'm going to post my windows config files and maybe you can tell me why logging into this system GP8 doesn't work from my mac?

    Hello John,
    please try the "SAP GUI for Java Configuration Generator Scripts" available at http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-25456#section9 .
    For using the message server to connect to GP8, the information of the port number of the message server for GP8 is missing. For direct connection to GP8, it might work to use the connection string "conn=/H/gp8001.trans.de/S/3288" .

  • How to go from dual boot to single boot? Assistance needed

    So I have been running Windows 10 long enough now that I am comfortable using it as my daily driver. I have a backup of my previous Windows 7 install should I need to go back for some reason. Currently I have Windows 7 and Windows 10 installed on separate
    partitions on the same hard drive.  I would now like to format that partition and move the space back to a single drive.
    How can I do this. I know I could just format that partition but then upon booting it would still ask me which one I want to boot into.
    I have intentions of encrypting my hard drive once this is accomplished, and the program im using asks if a system is multiboot or not. I am worried if I dont fix this issue before and tell it no that the MBR may screw something up in the encryption process.
    Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

      I usually just go into bcdedit and delete the entry for the OS I no longer want, then format the partition.

  • Going from PSE9 to CS6 on MAC?

    Hey there - I've never used Photoshop, but I just purchased it because of the $299 deal for PSE users. Can anyone tell me, should I uninstall PSE9 now that I have CS6? Or leave both on my computer? Anyone use both?
    Also, will my brushes and actions installed in PSE9 convert to CS6 automatically or do I need to re-install them in CS6.
    Anyone who's upgraded between the two, I'd appreciate some guidance. Thanks in advance!

    Many keep both. You may be more comfortable with PSE9 and use CS6 as you learn more and more. I don't think any part of PSE6 goes into your install of Photoshp CS6. So you probably have to install or create new brushes and actions in CS6. Ask for more help in the Photoshop forum.

  • Apps/windows lost going from dual to single monitor

    I use a MacBook Pro at work, where I hook up to an external monitor. Later at home when I use the MacBook without the external monitor, I lose windows for apps that were last viewed on the other monitor. If I use Exposé to view all the open windows, the missing window slides in from off screen. If I try to select it, it slides back off screen.
    Is there any simple way to get the app window back into the single screen? So far the only solutions I've found are to delete the app's preferences, or to track down the plist that describes the windows location and go in and manually edit the coordinates. There has to be a better, simpler solution.
    Two apps that I have noticed this happening with are Apimac Timer and DivX Converter.

    Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and enter the following:
    tell application "app name"
    set bounds of window 1 to {357, 296, 667, 511}
    end tell
    Insert the name of the application which controls the window between the quote marks in line 1. If this command moves the wrong window, increment the first number in line 2 until the correct one is targeted; you can also specify windows by name the same way the application's name is specified. This does not work with all windows and applications. The script can be run multiple times for different applications.

  • Total Mac noob questions

    First, I have been a PC fan since the 8086. I have never owned anything but PCs. I build my own PCs and rarely ever have a problem. I keep my PC updated, secure, and virus protected, always...BUT I am getting REAL sick of Microsoft and I need some advice/help to get off of their platform.
    The main reason I am sticking to a PC right now (outside of my familiarity) is because I love PC games. If Linux or Macs (or any other OS for that matter) had the support that the PC does, I would switch in a second. I know that Macs do support SOME games but not nearly as many as the PC. Additionally, I am a power hog. I love the pure power of the PCs. I am afraid that a Mac couldn't touch the performance of one of my custom built machines but since I have never owned one, I don't know. So here are my questions:
    1) Can I install OSX on my existing Intel hardware? I know there are Hacks out there but does Apple support installing it on stand alone machines?
    2) How do the new Macs handle games? Has anyone compared performance of a Mac game to its PC game counterpart?
    3) Is there a way to custom build a Mac-like computer and install OSX?
    4) Are there any other options for my gaming habit that will get me away from Microsoft?
    Assume I know nothing about Macs and feel free to get into as much detail as you want.

    Hi BMCD;
    May I welcome you to the Apple Discussion Forums.
    I concur with what the other responders said so I will not repeat their comments.
    What I would like to add is that while I attempt to avoid games because I have found them to be much too addictive for me in the past, I did download a demo copy of WOW and Halo on my G4 prior to my upgrade to my Quad as a test for the 7800 GT in my Quad. What I noticed on my old G4 was that all of the video in both games was totally not smooth. Everything that moved did so with a very jerky motion to it. Whereas on the other hand when I ran the games on my Quad it appear more like a movie.
    In addition, on my G4 I had a difficult time understanding the speak of the characters. On the Quad this was not so. I was able to understand them much better.
    So if you want a Mac for gaming I would recommend the Quad with a 7800 GT graphic card. It is certainly a vast improvement over m y old G4.

  • Going from AS 2 to AS 3 - newbie question

    So I understand that in AS3 I can no longer place scripts on an object like a button, but must place them in the frame script in which the button appears. But how does that work when the button (and script) first appear in frame 1 but the movie has advanced to frame 5. The button still appears but when I click on it, the script does not execute - apparently because it is not in frame 1 anymore.
    Can anyone explain to me how AS3 handles this now? Or direct me to a tutorial?
    thanks

    Not sure I'm understanding... let me be specific:
    I have created a 'back' button in frame 2. The AS code in frame 2 adds an event listener for a mouse click on that button which calls a function that takes you back to frame one. This frame 2 button also carries across frame 3. So that if you click on this button (same instance) in frame 3, it should also take you back to frame 1. What I am experiencing is this:
    If I click on the button from frame 2, it works. If I click on the button from frame 3, it does nothing. This occurs no matter what order I perform this in. It is not a case where the first time I click the button, it works and the second time it does not. The problem is specific to the frame I'm in when I click the button.
    So here's the code:
    Frame One:
    stop();
    directory_1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_directory);
    function fl_directory(event:MouseEvent):void
    gotoAndStop(3);
    Frame Two: (where the back button first appears)
    back_1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_back);
    function fl_back(event:MouseEvent):void
    gotoAndStop(1);

  • Can I dual boot with MAC OS/X and Windows

    What is the best way to configure a dual boot on my MAC Bookpro laptop? Also, can I dual boot Windows 8 and MAC OS?

    The first alternative is a dual-boot arrangement between OS X and Windows provided with OS X.
    Windows on Intel Macs
    There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows
             XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  For Boot Camp
             4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
             instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
             installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
             installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the
             computer into OS X or Windows.
         2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
             Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
             virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
             or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
             enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
             applications without having to install Windows.  The
             Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
             as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
             It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
    Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
    You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.
