Going from FCP to Adobe Premiere

Hello,
I am ending a job with a company that works with all PC based programs. I have done a lot of work in FCP for them. As I leave the graphic designer of the company requested that I give her all the project files so that she can modify them if needed. Is there anyway to convert the Final Cut Project File into something that will open in Adobe Premiere? If I sent her all the capture scratch and the project files would this work?
Anything to helps.
thanks,
Johnny

Premiere Pro (CS4 and CS5) can open Final Cut Project XML files .... export your projects using the XML option in the File > Export menu, then send her those together with the Capture Scratch media.

  • Export from FCP to Adobe Premiere on PC for client to cut

I have some sequences that are complete on FCP 6 and had originally been used for DVD production
Now the client wants me to export them to some format, written to DVD for transport, and enable him to bring them up on his Windows PC in Adobe Premiere so he can make cuts that he will convert to Flash and put on the internet. What would be the easiest way to convert the files to something that will make this process go smoothly. He has no desire to have FCP xml files and original data files so that he can continue to edit in premiere. He just wants to cut and export.

OK -- I could make them WMV on the Mac side, move them to Windows. What software do you recommend to get them to Flash?

  • Going from FCP to idvd

Please help me in the easiest terms possible! What is the best (easiest!) way to compress a file from FCP so that I can use idvd to burn it? It is a 3 hour wedding video.

The normal process in FCP is the same whether you're eventually going to iDVD or to Compressor then DVD-SP.
Step 1: Export a QuickTime Movie (File->Export->QuickTime Movie). Do NOT recompress all frames, but do include chapter markers (if needed). You can make the movie self-contained or not (I prefer self-contained movies but you will need more space than for a reference movie).
Step 2: Use the resulting file in Compressor. Choose an appropriate preset based on your program's run time. If no preset exists for the run time you have, duplicate a preset then adjust the bit rate to accommodate the longer run time. Make sure you use AC3 (Dolby Digital) audio - not AIFF. Once you have the settings you need, let Compressor do it's thing. You'll end up with an MPEG-2 video file (.m2v) and a Dolby Digital audio file (.ac3).
Step 3: Import the two files from Compressor into DVD-SP for authoring and burning.
Note that with a program that long, you won't have much space for menus or any other extras which is why I recommended using dual-layer media.
This tool may help in determining the bit rate you need to use: http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/bitbudget.html

  • How do I transfer from FCP6 to Adobe Premiere??

I have edited a project in Final Cut Pro 6 but I now need to transfer it to Adobe Premiere to have the project completed (it is a shared project); what is the best way to transfer my project?
    Many thanks!

If you have CS4 there is a much easier way. The 4.0.1 updater that Adobe released yesterday includes an FCP import feature. So you can bring FCP projects right into Premiere Pro easily.

  • Exporting from FCP to Adobe Premier

    hi gang,
so, would like to export my short film (20 min) that I've finished editing in FCP 5.1.3 but I'm seeing something strange with the final product. It's seems really fuzzy/grainy when doing playback on a PC. I think that I might be doing something wrong during export, so I'll give out to the brain trust here to see if you can find what I'm missing. I've got my settings at DV-NTSC 720 x 480 and it doesn't seem to take very long to export. I've got it self-contained, no markers. The final product is 3.5 gigs. It has no file name at the end (like .mov) so am I correct in presuming that this is goofed up somewhere. If so, how can I make it right?

    I have been batching a boat load of files this week. Not without problems but I came to a pretty good workflow. If you think of a better one I would be interested. My issue is I needed to convert over a hundred clips from Prores in HD to a format that premiere pro would import. I couldn't find a AVI option in compressor but if I did I would have used it. And Jerry if you tell me I could have I might jump in front of a train because I'm almost done with the conversions. :}

  • Can someone just spell it out for me?  Going from FCP HD to DVD SD :-(

Hey folks. I hate to come here and ask a gargantuan number of questions, but this has been driving me out of my mind. I've tried asking specific question in hopes of simply finding one little problem that will fix my woes, but now it has come to this:
Can someone just spell it out for me?
How do I get my DVD going? I'll fill you in with all the knowlege I think you need.
I shot with Sony's HDR-FX1 and edited in Final Cut. That means I'm working with High defintion. The movie is set and solid, and runs One hour and twenty mintues. I'm trying to get it, the commentary track, the subtitle track, and a slew of video files (also shot in high def) onto one dvd. This goes beyond the 4.8 gig limit. Hence, i have a Dual layer burner, and have been burning onto DVD-R DL disks.
I've tried downgrading to SD format through steps from this website:
    http://www3.telus.net/bonsai/Step-by-Step.html
I do all the steps to all of my files, and then start putting them into my DVD STUDIO PRO project. I have a recorded commentary which I add in, and I have written all the subtitles. The disk is in SD mode, and everything fits onto the dual layer disk. I've tried literally a dozen different ways, and something keeps going wrong. Either the menus won't come up, and just the film will play upon inserting, or the subtitle stream doesn't pick up- problem after problem. So, now I ask: Can someone simply spell out to me what steps I need to take to get my HD film onto a Dual Layer SD disk?
I apologize for how general this question is and how many directions it can go, but I'm at a breaking point after four months of failures. Thank you very much.

    Hi man.
I don't really know which ways you've taken to put
the video into dvd studio, but since you're asking
for a step by step process, then here's what i do:
    - export the entire hour out of FCP to a qt file
    - take that QT file to compressor. the only audio you
really need is dolby 2.0. this would also reduce the
file size of video to make things fit in a single
    layer dvd
I have always found that the 'Dolby 2.0' and '5.1' AC3 settings in Compressor badly affect your audio mix...it collapses the soundstage, takes away a lot of depth and imaging, and smudges the frequency range, so I usually output a 16-bit 48kHz, which holds things together much more nicely when working with a stereo mix. Problem is, for a feature-length films, the resulting output from compressor makes it too big to fit on standard DVD-R's with the M2V picture file. My workaround was to actually take take the original exported FCP QT movie (which has a 48kHz aiff soundtrack to begin with), and only lay the audio part of it in the track timeline in DVD studio pro, then lay the compressed M2V video on top of it. They're both still in sync, unless you picked different in/out points in Compressor. When you 'build' your Video/Audio TS in 'advanced burn' it somehow makes it small enough to all fit onto a DVD, while still maintaining the audio quality of the AIFF, instead of the crappy-sounding 2.0 AC3. Then you just use Toast to burn your disc. The difference in sound quality is night and day. So basically I do the picture in Compressor, but let DVD Studio Pro prepare the audio in the Advanced Burn stage.
It will be very difficult to get a good-sounding AC3 (what they call 'dolby' 2.0 or the wierd 5.1 encoding they use) unless you mix/master/encode your soundtrack professionally like regular studio films do. Just encoding it in compressor straight out of FCP or ProTools isn't enough. You lose too much.

  • FCP to Adobe Premiere CS3

I captured from HDV (Apple codec) and edited a sequence in FCP (new version) but I have to transfer it to Premiere Pro. I tried to export in HDV1080i and other codecs but the clip are accepted in PPro but no sound and plain red image. The sequence is 12 min long but half second in PPro?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Have never tried to do what you are doing...
You could make a self contained Quicktime movie and load it into Premiere. If the 12 minute sequence is only a half second long in Premiere, it is obvious it is not importing it but just a frame (actually about 14 and a half frames) of it.

  • Workflow that maintains clip handles going from FCP to Motion & back

I have a 25 minute Final Cut Pro sequence that consists of about 200 clips each about 7 seconds long. Each clip has a different linear speed change applied to it. I've already run the project through Media Manager, adding 5 second handles to each clip. I've been told by my color corrector that before sending the project to him I should send all the clips to Motion and apply optical flow for the speed changes there. The short version of my question is: Can I trouble anyone to suggest an efficient workflow in which I can send the entire sequence to Motion and have it make the round trip back to FCP as a sequence in which the motion files have been swapped in for the original clips and the handles of the original clips have been maintained on those Motion files?
What I've been doing is selecting the sequence in FCP and sending it to Motion. Once the sequence is in Motion I seem to have to apply optical flow to each of the 200 clips individually rather than to the group a whole, because with multiple clips selected Motion seems to want to apply the same averaged-out time remap to all of them. So I apply optical flow to the 200 clips one-by-one and Motion inevitably crashes several times during that process. After I've finally set all the clips individually to optical flow I then select the clips and choose export selection. I then have to wait by my computer for several hours while Motion asks me over and over again "Some optical flow files are outdated. What do you want to do?" I assume these prompts are the result of the Motion having crashed while the clip was still being analyzed for optical flow. Finally when this process is done, I have a series of clips without handles that I have to tediously re-import back into the original FCP sequence.
    I'm using FCP 7.03 and Motion 4.0.3.
Any thoughts anyone might have would be HUGELY appreciated!!! Thanks in advance for the help!
    Best,
    Neil

    Hi Neil,
About the handles: What do you need them for?
If the edit is not too complicated and almost all on V1, you can think of a workaround which is very tedious, and I doubt whether it will make you happy.
On V1 the original cuts. So you will always be able to find them back.
Then Copy everything to V2. And from there put every other clip on V3. (So clip A on V2, clip B on V3 , clip C on V2, etc. And now by selecting the cuts and type +500 or -500, you can extend the clips.
    Like in the picture below.
Again V1 is the original edit and is there to repair the cuts on V2 and V3 later on.
(I used slug and Generators for this exemple. Off course they all stand for normal clips.)
After that you do your Motion Magic, like Patrick explained.
And back in FCP cut V2 and V3 back like V1 is.
    Delete V1, and done.
Well, that's the theorethical part. I hope it somehow can help you in practice, because I assume your edit will be more complicated then the example...
I once did this trick with
Also: When you send your normal clip to Motion (So from track V1, then in Motion you can increase the value in the duration Tab (Timeline, top right, then extend the clip and then save. You know can use the handle in FCP. Not sure how to achieve that for the beginning of the clip. You should try that yourself....

  • Going from FCP 6 to FCP 5

I am trying to take a project created on FCP 6 and continue editing on FCP 5.
This is what I have done so far:
I saved the FCP6 project as an XML file - in the four different versions that it gave me as options.
I took the drive that had all the files to the FCP5 machine and imported the FCP xml file. It would only take version 1.
The project opened up but it would only see the files that were on the timeline . All the masterclips and subclips in the bins were off line and the audio on the time line was out of sync.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
    William

You must use the Media Manager (in the File menu) to create a copy of your project. This will consolidate all your media into a single folder that you can move to the computer with FCP 5. Make your XML file from the new project file that Media Manager creates.

  • How do I prevent ExporterAVI.prm from crashing in Adobe Premiere Elements?

It has been crashing in both newly installed versions 11 and 12. The workaround has been to rename this plugin in order for Premiere to start. However, I seem to require this plugin for DV imports to work (from a mini-DV camcorder). I don't get "DV" project settings,  if I use any  other project setting, Premiere crashes after importing the DV footage. I assume it has  to do with  codecs on my PC. I'm runnning Windows 8, it has been the same  with Windows 7  before. Any ideas how to track down the issues are  highly appreciated. Thanks.
    Peter

    *** SOLVED ***
Thank you all, I finally solved the problem. A broken Codec caused ExporterAVI to crash upon start up of Premiere. Renaming the plugin solved that crash but of course disabled AVI as file format for saving. The codec is from "Matrox", I have no idea why or how it got installed. I used an application called G Spot to inspect codecs, but G Sport reported an error when loading codecs (time out). G Spot is well behaved reporting a time out, Premiere just crashes, that's the difference.
Anyway, after removing the broken codec, I could enable ExporterAVI again. Then also the project setting for DV files became available, which obviously depend on the ExporterAVI plugin to be loaded.
    Thanks again

  • Problems with XML import from FCP 7 to Premiere Pro CS6

    Afternoon everyone.
I'm currently trying to import an FCP 7 project file that I want to now edit and tweak in Premiere Pro (have recently realised i've been using Premiere far more so would like to start making a full switch over).
I've gathered my original FCP project and exported via XML (Apple Interchange Format, Version 5) and imported it into a blank Premiere Pro project. However it gets to the import window, progresses fully to 100% and then throws this error message at me, and I can't seem to figure out why.
I've tried exporting an XML for the whole project, with all bins/sequences/clips etc. I've also tried individual sequences/bins, and none of them want to import.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
    Thanks,
    Adam

Okay, after trying both steps in the document above, the missing codecs/preview presets still aren't available when I go to File>New>Sequence. I guess that's the only way to check if they have installed correctly/activated correctly right? It says it's correctly activated though so not sure why it's doing this.
Are these presets also missing in the trial verison of the software?

  • Going from FCP 7 to FCP X...

I've decided to jump to FCP X. I found this app that can convert FCP 7 XML file so that FCP X can read them.
It's $10 USD in the app store.
    http://assistedediting.intelligentassistance.com/7toX/about.html
Until I learn more about FCP X, I can do my edits, added audio and texts (and want-nots) in FCP 7. Export the XML file and import the edited files into FCP X to finish up. (FCP X has a better color corrector compared to FCP 7.)
Here's a video about how to use the app...
    http://youtu.be/sk4eTu5nEWc?t=19m30s

    David,
For the first 6-9 months after FCP x was released I couldn't see any reason to change from FCS and I only occasionally experimented with it out of curiosity. After the 10.0.3 update I did some projects partially in 7 and partially in X. I straddled the fence up to the time  when 10.6 was released. I then committed to learning it and making it my primary editor. By mid last year. I had essentially completed the transition. Now the time I spend with the legacy FCP is limited to the odd re-edit of an archived FCP 6 or 7 project. And it feels kind of strange to be working in those earlier versions.
Hope you enjoy the transition experience, which I suspect will go a lot
    faster than mine did.

  • I'm trying to import music that I've purchased from iTunes into Adobe Premiere

but with some tracks I get an Add Media Failure error message.  Others work fine.  Any advice appreciated.  I know that the problem is not with Adobe as most tracks are OK.  I've tried converting the problem ones to MP3 files to see if that helps - it doesn't and as far as I can see the file type of the problem ones is exactly the same as to OK ones.  The only thing that is different is the problem ones were all purchased after the last iTunes version update!

If you want to merge her Library into yours, or to move the data - versions, metadata etc - then you need to use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager
Other than that you will need to export from hers and import to yours. But this will not get the versions and miss some of the metadata.
