Going from ios4 to ios5 instead of ios6
I have an iPhone 4 with ios4 on it. I would like to upgrade to the latest ios5 (but not ios6). How can I do this?
There's no Apple way to it. Probably a third-party way if you know what I mean.

You can not upgrade to iOS 5 at all. Only to iOS 6. Over the air updates can only be done when iOS 5 or higher is installed.
Even if you find a way to update to iOS 6 using another computer, you will not be able to sync with your work computer any more.
Side note. Syncing your personal information to a company owned machine may not be wise. If the phone is not company issued/owned, you really should be syncing it with your personal computer. -
This is truly weird - my iPhone4 successfully updated from iOS4 - iOS5, but it didn't back up any of my apps/contacts/stuff. etc. I still have the right phone number but everything else, including email account info and photos are my daughter-in-laws, the photos are all dated 2008. What on earth happened?

If your getting data from 2008, that means you didn't backup your phone prior to doing the update. -

You can only update a device to the highest iOS version that it supports, which for an iPad 2 is iOS 7.0.4 - for how to do it follow the instructions on the page that you posted from.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes (you will need the latest version installed) and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad via File > Devices > Back Up.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand sidebar, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button -

I did the stupid thing and upgraded to ios5 and it was the worse thing I ever did! My apps are so slow and so is everything else.

heidiOn your iPhone tap Settings > iCloud.
Make sure Photo Stream is swtiched on.
If necessary, you can Reset your Photo Stream -

When I upgraded my iPhone4 from iOS4 to iOS5 via iTunes, an error code of -43 encountered. I have tried a few times and even disabled my anti-virus software. But still encountered the same problem. can anyone help?
Was your phone jail broken prior to the upgrade? Did you do a fresh install?
Try backing up your phone to the computer and doing a fresh install from the computer then restore it from the back up. -

The iphone is not storage/backup device.
The sync is one way - computer to iphone.
The only exception is itunes purchases. File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
You should copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one. -
my iphone just stopped connecting to my wifi and i have tried all the recommended troubleshooting with no success. Also when i send a text , it shows it coming from my email address instead of my cell #. i dont receive any text going to my cell #. help
If i understand what you are saying then you are seeing the WiFi indicator after connecting but Apps are saying that they are not connected to the internet?
Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be to restart your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc. -
Booksmarks don't work right. Goes to a dialogue box instead of BMs then have to click from IE.
Have been emailing Fredmcd, but he has disappeared. When I click on Bookmarks goes to a dialogue box instead of actually bookmarks. Then I have to click on 'from Internet explorer." I have done 3 uninstalls 2 without personal settings, did a reset issue stays the same. very annoying. See from above FF has a LOT of dialogue box issues. Would seem this is a design issue can't get rid of. Please advise. HP says its a FF27 issue. I have Windows 8.1 which seems to have lot of compatibility issues with FF27! I have a screen shot of this issue.

You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.

It is 99% hacked/jailbroken iPhone to use a different carrier than intended. You have to put the sim from the original carrier or ask them to unlock the iPhone. We as well as Apple cannot help you with this.

Have two mail accounts and i want to keep them separate but want to EASILY switch back and forth from the main screen instead of going through, Settings, Mail, and selecting account. Major pain the butt. This has been a request from Apple users for many years. it's great you can now combine all emails into one, but some people want them kept separate and have separate icons on the main page. They could easily do this by having one "MAIL" account as white and another red. Or put MAIL 1 and MAIL 2. Or an actual label that the mail accounts are called on the ICONS!!

I currently have two email accounts setup. My iPhone main page Mailbox settings reads:

Inboxes
All Inboxes
Gmail

Accounts
Gmail
[email protected]
I wish there an efficient way to move back and forth while in the "Inbox" between accounts. Also, Why does one gmail account show as "Gmail" and another as the actually address?
The names are based on the names you gave the accounts when you set them up.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap the account you want to re-name. Go to the "Description" field and put in what ever you want.
Second, there is no way to quickly choose a bunch of emails to delete. I have to manually go into each one and move it to the Trash folder.
If you tap the edit button in the upper right while in mail, you can select multiple items to move, delete or mark (flag).
I don't want any of the condescending remarks, that I've read here and in other forums. I'm honestly looking for a solution, which I think you are too! One thing I realized is that iPhone users in these forums are really defensive and quick to say "that's how it is, live with it, if you don't like it go away" Um...the only thing that tells me is you are pretty bitter and have kept telling yourself that, to force yourself to like your device. I prefer to express my issues, and find solutions. There is ALWAYS a solution...
I think what you will find is that many people here, myself included, tend to get a bit short with people who start off with attacks or whining about how something has been asked for for years and should be easy, rant about things that have already been beaten to death multiple times in the forums, talk about how much better Android or BB are at something (really... if it's that much better, why did they buy an iPhone to begin with?), etc., or continue to ask questions that could easily be answered with a simple search, or even just by looking back at the last dozen posts to the forum, half of which probably asked the EXACT SAME question.
I don't think any of us go out of our way to be rude or uncivil. That said, attacking the people who are attempting to help you is much more likely to generate a response of 'if you don't like it, go away', than it is to generate something that will be truly helpful. -
wary about upgrading my wife's 3gs from ios4 to ios6. will the data associated with an app be lost or will it be restored from the backup after the upgrade completes. There is no way to export, email or even print the data contained in the app so I am concerned
If the backup and restore takes place properly, you shouldn't have any issue as millions of people have done an update from iOS 4.

1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?
