Have been pc for a long time. Daughter and son in law both have Mac pro and I love those laptops. I have a lot of files in msword on my pc. Can I use these on a imac?

I switched operating systems from PC to MAC what about my CS6?

I bought photoshop cs6 recently(last fall) and now I have decided to change my operating system from a PC to a MAC how do I switch my program. When I bought the program I told the sales agent that I would be switicing OS soon and she said no problem I wont have to purchase a new version just switch it over. Does anyone know how to do this?

If you bought the perpetually licensed (non Cloud) version of Photoshop CS6 then the serial number is platform specific. Won't work on a Mac.
You'll need to obtain a Mac serial number.
Adobe does offer platform swaps for software but they usually only apply to the current software version

However since CS6 is the last perpetually licensed version that Adobe will offer (since the CC version is Cloud only) perhaps the platform swap option is still valid for you.

Is it possible to call a locally installed ibook from a hyperlink? What about to a bookmarked page?
I have 2 questions..
1. Can I send a link via email that when launched will open an ibook that has already been downloaded to the bookshelf?
2. If question 1 is possible, can I take it a step further and call a bookmark, i.e. chapter 3.
Our company has it's own appstore and I want to send out links to sections of the ibooks using bookmarks or at the very least take them to the start of the ibook.
I don't need to give them a link to install the ibook as they already have it installed.
Any help would be much appreciated.

That would be cool, but it's not possible. The ibook is not accessible by URL in the user's bookshelf.

When you first hook it up it will probably have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the TV but you can move the cursor onto the TV screen.
In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the TV and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen.
The TV will now have the Dock and Menu Bar and windows will open on it. But you can move the cursor to the MacBook screen and move windows from the TV over to the MacBook screen.
You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the TV your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.
Or if you want to use the MacBook’s keyboard and trackpad to work on the MacBook screen while showing it on a TV you can check the Mirror Display box on the lower left hand side of the Arrangement tab under the two monitors box. That will give you the same screen at the same resolution on both the MacBook and the external monitor.

I have an iPod video 30GB. Currently I am a windows XP user so it is formatted for that. However, I am considering buying a MAC. I was wondering how this would affect my iPod. I presume it will have to be re-formatted. How will this affect any music on the iPod?

You can use your iPod formatted as it is as Macs can read Windows formatting. I've seen a few posts on the forum where there have been problems but these would be the exception. Have you thought about how you are going to get your music from your PC to your new Mac? Changing personal domain from enom to .mac--what did I leave out?

Help! I have been reading all of the great advice posted, but am still not having success. I'm sure I probably left something out, but this is what I have done so far:
I am changing my domain name with enom to .mac and have made the following changes: I have changed the www to web.mac.com/mymembername/iweb/mysitename and chose url redirect. I also put web.mac.com for the cname alias, with mydomain.com (no www) in the address portion. Was I suppose to edit the dns server info by adding the numeric equivalent of my personal domain? Also, I have seen opposing opinions on whether or not to change the A address(s).
I have also confirmed that .mac recognizes my domain name. However, when I type in my address, it turns into the web.mac....but an Apple error page shows error code #424 trouble syncing...etc. What does that mean?
By the way, it has been 48 hours since my changes (above.) I would so appreciate some help. Thanks!

There are no media files on the mac mini just the library files and on external just media files..
Do I need to copy anything over from the old mac mini ? xml files ? .. the itunes folder on old mini is about 840mb in size which looks to have artwork ect ? .. I am fairly computer literate, but this one has me stumped.. ?

Going from Windows to Mac

My brother-in-law just ordered a new iMac from the Apple store. He's leaving it up to me to get all his files transferred from the PC to the iMac. I have an external hard drive formatted for Windows that I will use for this. He has an iTunes library on his Windows PC. Can I re-create the library on his new iMac using the external hard drive?
On Apple's support site, I found an article explaining how to back up an iTunes library with an external drive, then restoring the library backup. Is this all I need to do? Will it work going from PC to iMac? Will any songs he purchased from iTunes be included in the transfer?

Going from Window to Mac

Please help! My ipod has windows software. Iused it before on my mac and everything was fine. I recently updated to Tiger and mac wanted to do the ipod updater. It asked me to return to factory settings - I did - Now I see the ipod in itunes with no songs under it in itunes; no songs registering on the ipod either. Funny thing is itunes shows that 3/4 of the ipod is full. Help! What happened to my songs. Or why can't I totally erase it. I only want to use it on mac from now on.

Moving files from PC to MAC - what goes wrong?

And how can i get access to these files? Had to return my laptop at work (PC) and backed everything up to my external HD...brought it home, plug it in to my MAC, and all the important documents will not open. Some word documents that were in zip files seem ok...can these files that won't open be repaired? I tried the NEO program, same thing, they ask what to convert them to.
PLEASE GUYS, throw me some clues!
Could it be because the drive is in a win format? But, some other type files do work!

Does the drive mount when plugged into another PC?
How is the drive formatted? FAT32 or NTFS?
FAT32 is the most compatible PC format (it can be read and written to). However, it is an older format for devices. NTFS is the newer preferred format for big hard drives on Windows. The caveat is that other systems (OS X or Linux) can generally only read from these drives. In my experience, devices formatted with NTFS are also more troublesome if there is any sort of error in the filesystem that has not been corrected.
Your best bet is to format the drive as FAT32 in Windows and recopy the files again to the hard drive. It should mount with no problems when plugged into your Mac.

Need reasurance about going from PC to Mac

I am just short of buying a 20" IMac. I would upgrade the RAM myself whether a Macbook or IMac. Of course, the Macbook is cool, but the IMac is also. . I have two Windows apps that I must have ( need for business). I also have considered a MacBook. Is there much degradation using a laptop over an IMac? I am hesitant to order the Mac. I've used PC's since 1984 (two floppies, $4,000). Can't afford to get trapped with something that may not work well. Any help is appreciated. What to do?

What are the windows apps you need? You can handle them in several ways. You can find a Mac equivalent, you can run them using something like remote desktop or you can install windows on your Mac. Let's discuss the last option.
New Macs completely support installing Windows XP SP2 or above (including Vista) inside the Bootcamp environment. All you need is a full bootable copy of Windows. When you install in this manner, you can choose at startup whether you boot into the Mac or Windows environment. Depending on the format, you can share files in a common area between systems.
If you'd rather run Windows as an application WITHIN the Mac environment, I'd highly recommend Parallels. It runs about $75 and allows seamless running of windows apps by hiding the entire windows environment form view! Very cool.
Both windows options are full installations and have no compromises. The Parallels one will be about 90% of full speed. The Bootcamp installation will be one of the fastest PCs you've ever used.
Whether an iMac or 'Book, that should depend on portability. If you don't need to take it with you, buy the desktop since it has a much bigger screen.

Hi there, I have just ordered an iMac 21" which should arrive in a couple of days, I am currently using a windows 7 pc, it's mainly filled with music really, tbh I just had the idea of putting my purchased content from iTunes onto an external HD and just copy the content over (deauthorise my pc I know )
To be honest I just need a list or things I need to do because I will be selling my windows computer soon when I have my iMac up and running, is it just the purchased content from iTunes I need to grab and that's it?
Or anything else I need before I finally say goodbye to my windows computer?

From hdd to ssd: what about os and all data?

Hello everybody.
I know there are a lot of discussion about it and i read lots of them,
But maybe because english is not my first language, i have some problems in understanding the right things to do.
Also, i am pretty new with mac world as i just have my mb pro since last november.
so i hope you can help me with easy words, thanks.
here's the list of what i have:
- MacBook Pro 2.5ghz, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd
- os x mavericks (installed 2 days ago)
- all my documents/photos/music in my MB Pro
... and:
- crucial ssd 480gb
- an external hd enclosure usb 3.0
- the 17 in 1 tool kit
What do i have to do first?
And how will i transfer/install the os x from hd to ssd? or it "remains" somewhiere in my MB Pro?
I know there is a link from crucial with the procedure for removing hd and installing ssd, is this all i have to do?

Follow these steps:
Make certain that you have your data backed up as a precaution.
Attach the SSD to the MBP and open Disk Utility>Erase. Format the SSD to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Open Disk Utility>Restore and in the 'Source' field drag the internal HDD from the left hand column.
In the 'Destination' field, drag the SSD from the left hand column.
Click on the 'Restore' button.
Depending upon the amount of data, this process may take a couple of hours.
When finished, restart your MBP holding doen the OPTION key. The display should show the internal HDD and the external SSD (yellow in color). Click on the SSD and if it boots the MBP, the clone has been successful.
Perform the physical swap. Your MBP should be ready to go. All of your data will be on the SSD exactly as it was on the HDD.

Moving from PC to Mac, what format to use?

Hi ,
A friend of mine has just bought a macbook, he was using premier lite or some such on his vaio, and exported some video files as mpegs (not sure which kind) he was surprised they wouldnt play in Quicktime and couldnt import them into iMovie.
How can I help him??? what file type should he export as? I dont know if this is raw video from the camera or edited together video, probably both. Sorry i am not an expert in this area, but dont want him to regret his mac decision. He does love the macbook though!

I just recently purchased my first Mac. I have an iPod and have been using it on a PC since I bought it. What will happen if I plug my iPod into my new Mac? Will it erase everything? A lotta my music on my iPod is not backed up on another harddrive so I hope not. Someone please help.

If your iPod is set to update automatically you just need to take care when connecting to your new computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod

Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.
