Going in & out of sleep mode

I have an iBook G4 with a 12" display I haven't had any problems with it until my last update (I update whenever there are available updates). I restarted my mac like normal after the update and found that after the white loading screen with the tiny apple logo loaded my mac asked me to restart. It did this 5 or 6 time in a row. With luck it finally loaded back up and I backed up all of my files & decided to reformat and start from scratch thinking it was something to do with the update.
After the reformat & reinstallation of OS 10.4 I thought I was ok, but I wasn't. Now when I shut the screen for it to go into sleep mode it seems to start sleeping then turning itself back on, then sleeping again. It does this until I open the screen back up. Next it will come on and then go back to sleep until I wake it with the keyboard, then it runs fine.
I need to know whats wrong with my iBook so I can see about getting it working right again.
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   1.33 Ghz, 512 Mb Ram

Update it only happens now when it is plugged in to the charger.

  • Display is all snow coming out of Sleep mode

Just replaced a 17" LCD (using the mini-DVI-to-VGA) with a new Acer 24" widescreen LCD (using mini-DVI-to-DVI). After a little fiddling with the profile, I've got a pretty nice picture. Problem: coming out of sleep mode, the screen is all snow. If I pop the monitor off and on, everything comes back normal. I did NOT have this problem with the older 17". This is more of an annoyance than a major issue, since just a couple of hits of the on-off button correct it. But it ain't right, so I'm hoping I can fix it for good. It happens whether the Mini goes to sleep by itself or if I put it to sleep. I don't know if it's a DVI issue, monitor issue, or something goofy with the Mini's video.
I did a search and found similar issues, but not exactly the same, and saw no suggested resolutions that fixed them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks ...
    Ed

The 9400M device driver on our Macs appears to be really bad.
My buddy tried to put a Sharp LCD projector on the external port on his Mac laptop, which also had a Nvidia 9400M, and it was not usable. The picture kept coming and going. The projector screen would go blank, then a picture would come up, go blank, and then the picture would come back again, over and over. Being an experienced Mac, PC, and Linux user, I attempted to help him get it working using the display properties page in the System Preferences. Nothing helped.
I'm having similar troubles with the second port on my 9400M on my new Mac mini.
The primary display is fine. I have a 24" Acer LCD on the miniport to DVI converter for my second display, and it works most of the time, however the picture goes to snow fairly often, and blacks out sometimes, too. It usually comes back. Occasionally, I have to power cycle the LCD to get the picture back.
Seeing similar problems with two different DVI display devices, when these devices work fine on our PCs, seems to point the problem at the Mac Nvidia display driver.

  • My 3050 J610 printer goes into standby or sleep mode and then I cannot print docs to it wirelessly

Everytime I do not print something for a few hours, my printer goes into standby or sleep mode.  When it does this, it cannot be used to print from my laptop or android to it.  Is there a way to set this up so that it doesn't "go to sleep" and it is always available to me to print with.  I like the printer, but it seems kind of off that you cannot print on it wirelessly and it is considered a WIRELESS printer.  That's the only reason I bought it and now I can't even use it without walking downstairs and turning the printer back on again.  If I wanted to do that every time I would just print from my main computer!
    Thanks,

Ok, I know this thread is a little old, but it would not allow me to start a new one, since I am new. I am having the same issues with my 3050 J610 as everyone else. It makes you think there is a wireless connection problem, but that is not the case. The printer goes into a standby mode and there is no way to bring it out of it, unless you cycle the printer. The panel buttons will still work, you just lose the ability to print wirelessly.
I have had my 3050 J610 in two different rooms, master bedroom and basement office. Both areas work well when it is connected and awake. After a while of inactivity, it goes into standby mode and cannot print wirelessly. Here are steps I have taken so far:
When the printer goes into standby and will not print wirelessly, I have check to make sure there is still a connection between the router and the printer - There is
I have set a static Id for the printer at .210
Cycling the printer brings the connection back instantly.
The front panel buttons work just fine when it does not have connectivity
In the basement, the machine has excellent signal and connection.
I have checked the recommendations in this thread, and like others, there are no options under the advanced tab of the maintenance page. The problem is a standby or sleep issue. When this arises, it has connection to the router, but the wireless computer does not have connection to the machine. I know when it was in the bedroom, the light would blink 3 or 4 times now and then throughout the night. We need a way to turn off the standby, or bring the machine out of standby mode. It is not an issue of the router, channel, interference, or software. It is the sole issue of standby or sleep modes. I have been pulling my hair out for almost two years over this issue. I swore I would not buy another HP product after the problems I had with a printer and laptop. But I thought I would give HP another chance.

  • Why does my MAC sometimes crash when coming out of sleep mode?

My mac freezea sometimes when coming out of sleep mode, and occasionally the screen will go black. At other times I will be using the MAC and it will just freeze. The only way to get out of it is to kill power and reboot. It seems to be happening more frequently.
It was suggested that I fix permissions and start in sleep mode. This has helped in the past, and I am going to do it again now. I also recently upgraded to 10.6.8, and after that the crashes were fewer, but now they are increasing again.
I am including a log of the recent crash a few minutes ago.

Okay thanks, but I am a newbie who is not a very tech kind of a person. The only periphals I have are a kodak camera dock, a Canon 310 copier/fax/scanner and a pair of altec speakers. How do I determine  if they all have drivers for my MAC? They all seem to work okay, if that is a sign, though the Kodak camera Dock is a bit slow. How also do I determine if they are Apple energy compatible? With each of these peripherals, do I simply disconnect them from my MAC one at a time to see if there improvement?

  • Airport doesn't locate my network after coming out of sleep mode

Hi, seems that my imac has a hard time connecting with my network when coming out of sleep mode. Even when I choose the proper network, it still asks for my password (even thought it's populated in teh password field) and when I choose OK, it still times out quite often. Eventually if I turn it off and on or restart comp, it comes up OK.
I'm a little afraid to repair permissions as I have a HP C7280 all in one that the general school of thought is don't repair permissions as Leopard thinks they need repair, but in fact are OK and when "repaired" stop the machine from working properly. It took me a while to get it going in the first place, I dont want to break it again! Any ideas?? Thanks, Dan

  • U410 Touch won't come out of sleep mode

I've been having some serious issues with my 3 month old ideapad U410 touch. I first started having problems after installing Windows 8.1. There were many compatibility issues and I had to do a restore to factory settings to go back to Windows 8. That was a pain. Then I continued having errors messages regarding the Intel Rapid Start Technology, so I called Lenovo support. The technician helped me get into BIOS and disable the IRST, but then my computer took much longer to boot and it would power down any time I closed the laptop. They advised me to send my computer to a warranty service center.
I just received my computer today. It seems as though they did not solve the problem. The first time I closed the laptop to put it into sleep mode, it would not come out of sleep mode. It would go to the windows screen, but it would not allow me to log in. I contacted support again and they told me that I should try to do a factory restore (again). They then told me that since this is a software issue and not a hardware issue that I would have to contact their paid service to get further help. This has been a very frustrating experience and I am on the verge of telling everyone I know about the poor service I've received. I was very happy with my system until about a month ago.
Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this issue?

  • MacBook Pro comes out of sleep mode while lid is closed

    Hey guys,
I have a MacBook Pro that is slightly over a year old. I'm running Leopard 10.5.5, and I have a strange problem where the computer comes out of sleep mode while the lid is still closed. This happens without any USB plugs being inserted or removed. Basically it just comes out of sleep (I can tell because I can hear the hard drive spin up as well as the noise the cd-drive makes when it's woken up), then it seems to realize that the lid is still closed and goes back to sleep. This used to happen somewhat infrequently, but I got fed up when this happened today about 10 times in a row as I was trying to study for an exam.
I have applecare so I'm not worried about having to take it in, it's just a strange, annoying problem. I have not been able to find anything from searching google or the help forums, so if anyone knows what could be causing this and how I can fix the problem it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I did as you said, and I think I found the perpetrating program. It showed:
    "11/28/08 11:41:24 PM [0x0-0xb90b9].com.apple.Safari[1261] Fri Nov 28 23:41:24 Macintosh-37.local Safari[1261] <Error>: Invalid JPEG file structure: SOS before SOF\n"
Any idea what this means? The only other thing that showed up as an issue was:
    "11/28/08 11:42:16 PM iCal[1267] * Assertion failure in -[CoreEventResizeTracker mouseUp:sender:], /SourceCache/iCal/iCal-1270/iCal/src/calendar-views/x-days/CoreEventCreationTra cker.m:697"
    or
    "11/29/08 12:19:34 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.backupd-wake[1287]) Exited with exit code: 1"
I have no idea what this means, so if anyone can shed some light on it it would be very much appreciated.

  • Z77A-GD65 - Intel Network Adapter disabled when coming out of sleep mode

Just put together a new system with a Z77A-GD65 motherboard, Core i7 3770, and Corsair Vengeance RAM.
Installed the Windows 8 RTM (final release) version, which installs flawlessly and works fine. (Yes, I have an early license to Win8).
Here's the problem.  If the system goes to sleep, when it comes back out of sleep mode, the Intel Network Adapter stops working. (Hence, all network and internet connectivity is off). This is evident by the Network Status icon in the explorer task tray showing a red "X".  Any attempt to run the troubleshooter results in the message "The Intel 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection adapters is experiencing driver or hardware problems".  Screenshots and log files can be found on my Skydrive here: h t t p : //sdrv.ms/NVBatL
The driver version of the NIC, is what Windows installed during setup, is from Intel, version 12.0.150.0 dated 2/29/2012. (It was installed with Windows 8 by default).
Rebooting the machine fixes the problem.  For now, setting the Windows power settings to never sleep is my current workaround. I tried downloading and installing some software and driver packages from Intel that I thought might update the driver, but it did not work.
I am assuming this issue will not be present if I put on Windows 7, but that's what I was really hoping to avoid.  Suggestions?  Newer Intel driver available?

    Quote
I don't know why you think this workaround "defeats the the object of having power saving features".  That might be a fair point if this was a laptop relying on battery charge.  But "sleep" doesn't mean "zero power".  It means just enough power to keep the memory alive and some LEDs blinking.
In the case of a desktop build, keeping the LAN adapter awake is a non-issue.  Several hundred watts of power are being consumed when the PC is on. When it goes to sleep, that power usage drops down just a handful of watts.  If the workaround means having to dedicate an extra watt of power to the LAN adapter, then so be it.
I am not trying to discourage what you did. I have found many a work around to niggly bugs over the years. All I am trying to state is that this bug should be fixed, i.e. the LAN should wake up together with the PC. At the moment it works for you, which is great, and you reported it. Nothing more you can do.
As for the power saving. Yes of course we are talking about negligible consumption here, but the principle is that all these new machines have to comply with EuP2013 which dictates a maximum power usage for the total system when being in a sleep state. This can obviously not be achieved when one has to keep components powered because of a bug.
I would be interested to know what ME firmware version you have on your machine. I myself have had irritating intermittent issues with the Intel LAN on the same board as you in terms of the LAN remaining dead after start up whenever I change HW or do firmware updates. It then takes a restart to get the LAN active again.
Intel has released two IME updates over the last month and there is a recent update for the Ethernet controller as well. I updated both and am monitoring. Since the update I have not had any further issues, but its still early days and I am reluctant to say it solved the issue.

I understand your monitor is not coming out of sleep mode. Take a look at the following support document, Resolving Problems with Sleep and Hibernate Modes (Windows 7). Anyway, hopefully this document will be of help to you. Best of luck. Have a wonderful day.

  • My 3G is not coming out of sleep mode

I've had my iPhone for 2 days. Saturday morning when I woke up, the phone would not come out of sleep mode. The phone was on, and would ring when a call came in, but the screen is blank. It wouldn't accept a hard restart for about 30 minutes. My husband was finally able to give it a hard restart. We thought it was a software glitch and was fine. This morning it's the same deal. The phone can be turned on and off, but the screen is black. This time, we have been unsuccessful with a hard restart.
Should I just head back to the store or can I fix this?

My 3G did this, and I went and got the phone replaced.
But make sure that the screen isn't working. I had managed to get mine working, so they didn't believe me, one week later I show back up with the phone working, but no screen. Got changed out real quick at that point.

  • IMac doesnt always reconnect when coming out of sleep mode

I have newly converted from pc to mac. I have a new iMac 20" with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor and the new Airport Extreme Base Station. The only problem I seem to have is when my system comes out of sleep mode, it does not always reconnect to the base station. The only option I can see is to turn off the airport on my computer then turn it back on. Is there some other setting or another fix for this? Thanks!
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hi Applehave posted a fix for this. I had the same problem on my Macbook.
    Go to System prefs>network
Choose Airport in the show field
Under the airport tab choose by default, join preferred network
Any wireless connection listed using WPA or WPA2 security remove using the - option.
change the By default, join option back to Automatic
Re-connect to your router this will add it back into the list and you will reconnect automatically after sleep.
    It fixed my problem

It's not "green" but I suggest never using "sleep" type operations.  Windows and its drivers have never been good at making the transitions into/out of such modes, and probably never will be.
Just leave it running or save all your work and fully shut it down.  Allowing the display to power down may be okay as a compromise, but even that could be problematic.
