Going on holiday for 3 weeks, Router and Modem to ...

What do I do guys?
If I turn the modem off will my sync speed be reduced?
What about the router?
If I keep them on, no issues right?

You can turn them off without it effecting your speeds. It's repeated off and on of the modem that causes problems.

  • Do I need the same ip address for my computer, router and printer?

Do I need the same IP address for my computer, router and printer?
I am trying to reset my router. I have had a lot of problems with "no connection" to my wireless printer. I reinstalled the software and it works for a while.
Also, lose connection a lot on my laptop or it says I am a guest. My cable provider said it is my router.

A typical convenient-sized "block" of addresses commonly used is just under 256 addresses. The router almost always is at location xx.yy.zz.1
By default, DHCP will pass out addresses starting at the next address, xx.yy.zz.2 and keep going up toward 254.
By convention, the Address at the end of the range ( xx.yy.zz.255 in this case) is a "magic" address used for broadcast messages, and must not be assigned to an actual device.
To talk to each other easily, the Addresses must "match" in the first three octets of their address, and be different in the last octet, as the above examples do.
When you produce a reference outside that range, such as asking for Apple's web page at:
    http://17.149.160.49
It is sent to your Router, which acts as your "agent" in dealing with the Internet. The Router hides your computer's local address and uses its own Public address (provided automatically by your ISP) so send out packets on your behalf, and listen for the answering packets coming back.
When you use a Router that you control, your computer cannot receive unsolicited queries from the Internet at large because the Router's Firewall discards them. Having a Router that you control means you already have the protection of its Firewall, and need not enable the Firewall built-into your Mac.

macbook pro late 2010 battery at 24 cycles for 15 weeks computer and capacity is already 93%, anything wrong?

How many cycles depends on how often you drain the battery down low and then recharge it to maximum, ideally use it a little less on battery and a bit more on mains and the cycle count will slow down. Every couple of months you need to re-calibrate the Battery for best long term results.

  • Issue with Linksys Router and Modem with Vonage Device

    Hello,

Does anyone know how to intergrate all three of these items together?  Basically which plug goes where.  Currently my phone is not working.  The only thing that is in use right now is my linksys cable modem.  I have the power cord plugged in, the blue cord from the modem plugged into my laptop, and the cable from the modem to the wall jack.  Please help.  Thank-You!

The router should be online first. Can you get into the router's configuration page?
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!

  • Always have to restart router and modem.

I don't think this actually is the airport's fault and this only happens at my house, but maybe someone would know.
I have airport extremes in my G5 and ibook, and a linksys broadband modem, and a motorola router. if i restart my computers or the computers go to sleep i always have to unplug the modem and router to reset them; then the internet finally works. The only place i ever have to do this is my house, it always automatically works anywhere else. Anyone know what could be causing this?

when i first turn on the computer, or wake it up from sleeping the airport wireless recognizes my wireless connection but can't connect to the internet. when i unplug the router and modem i unplug it, wait about 10 seconds then plug it back in. after doing this my internet works fine for as long as the computer stays on. if i turn it off, or put it to sleep again, however, then i must unplug the router and modem again. i don't know why unplugging it works, but i was hoping maybe someone knew what i could do to have it just work automatically.

  • I purchased a blu-ray of The Hunger Games and it came with a code for a digital copy. I redeemed the code on iTunes but the download has been continuing for 2 weeks now and it never finishes! The time just keeps going up. Never an issue in the past.

I purchased the blu-ray of The Hunger Games and it came with a code to redeem for a digital copy. I redeemed the code in iTunes and the movie downloaded fine, but the "EXTRAS" have been downloading for 2 weeks! Everytime I launch iTunes it starts the download again and the counter keeps going UP, at one point it said it would take 3 weeks. I have paused and restarted the download, I have deleted the download, nothing works to finish or stop this download! Does anyone have a clue what's up?

ps when syncing it jumps through steps 1 - 4 real fast, i seem to remeber iphone showing the number of tracks transferring and names, but i see nothing? then it sits on 5 saying "waiting for changes to be applied"

  • Why can't I connect to the ITunes Store? Also can't download any CD's.For 3 weeks now and no tech support to help on phone?what is up???

Why can't I connect to the ITunes Store?Even through I troubleshooted with the info I was e-mailed,created new password,
made sure date, keychain was correct etc and still cannot open store .I have MacOSX 10.4.11 and it does not let me download
the latest version of iTunes.I need to speak to someone on the phone as it has been over 3 weeks now and this issue is still
not resolved. also cannot download any CD's. After reinstalling disc 1 as told by 1 800 MY APPLE (as I was unable to cut and paste
on my Mac)I ended up having to bring the computer in to the Apple Store on 5th Ave in Manhattan as it also required Disc 2 .
Unfortunately I did not back up my music library and was not told it would be fully erased due to reinstallation. My 6 year music

  • Ive had my macbook pro for a week now and when i cleaned the screen 4 days ago i found a little chip in the screen so the computer was definitely chipped at the manufacture or at the store but again its almost microscopic

To whom It May Concern,i have my macbook pro its a week old and after maybe 2-3 days cleaned it and noticed a little chip in the screen when the light flashed on the computer. Also my charger sometimes just dose not work ill plug it in at a different outlet then it will work its very frustrating to have this many issues i would like to see if i could get a new charger that actually works and a macbook without a tiny chip in it
Please let me know what you guys can do about it.
    Thank You,

  • PSP, router, and modem issues with Remote Play

    Background:
    Verizon DSL
    Westell 6100 modem
    WRK54G router
    PS3
    PSP
I haven't seen a post on this topic yet, so I'll explain the issue.  The Playstation 3 is networkable either through a wired ethernet or wireless connection.  The Playstation Portable is also networkable over wifi.  The PSP has always worked at hot spots for web surfing and gaming.  With the release of the PS3, there was a new feature called Remote Play, which let you connect your PSP to your PS3 and stream the PS3 interface.  You can manipulate the options, watch videos and listen to music, just like you are at the controls of the PS3.  The PS3 has to be put in "remote play" mode for this to work.
Last week, Sony released an update that made this functionality work over the internet.  For most people this worked just fine.  Others had to open ports here or there, but there is a group of users that cannot connect from a hot spot, but can connect over the internet at home.  The original remote play connection (before the update) was a direct connection between the PS3 and PSP.  Now you can connect through your router at home (scan for your router and connect that way).  This connection works since the PS3 and PSP are both connected to the same router in your home.  When you go to a hotspot, you can get all the way up to the point that the PS3 streamed screen should start, but it times out.
This is taken directly from the PS3 owner's manual:
"If the PS3 system is connected to the Internet via two or more routers, communication may not work correctly."
It seems like internet connection from a hot spot doesn't work because the request for the PS3 gets lost between two routers when it gets to my home network.
Finally to my question.  It seems like my Westell 6100 is functioning as a router, as is my WRK54G.  When i look at my modem's settings, it is set up as a bridge protocol in routed bridge mode.  Everything else I try makes me lose my internet connection.
Anybody know what I'm talking about or have any suggestions?
    Thanks

A lot of PS3/PSP owners are having this issue with Remote Play. I have a WRT350N and have been through Sony forum as well as this one to know about all setups from port forwarding to giving your PS3 a static IP and placing in DMZ. I can say I had success connected via or public wi-fi but I also noticed how unstable Remote Play is. There will be times you can connect to it but if you turn your PS3 completely off (not standby) and back on you will pretty much need to setup your PSP again with the PS3 for Remote Play. The problem itself lies more with Sony and not our modem and routers except that fact that you do have to make some minor changes like disable UPnP, forward ports and etc. I own the Sony LocationFree Player which uses a similiar function like Remote Play but instead gives you control over your cable tv remotely anywhere on laptop or psp. LocationFree never failed me since day one because Sony created a DDNS for it which worked for me no matter who my carrier was or what router I have used over the years. Remote Play was introduced later for PS3 which pretty much like LocationFree but Sony doesn't provide a DDNS for it, instead we have to go through all the crazy configurations which is never stable. However you can register for a DDNS at DynDNS.org and configure your router with it which I have done before and found it to be very stable. No matter what Sony still needs to address the issue with the PS3 communication for Remote Play. You can find a lot of info here for setting up DDNS and as for Remote Play your better off going to the Playstation Forums. Good Luck!

  • Wifi has suddenly stopped working. There is an exclamation mark which takes me to network diagnostics. This asks me for network name and password. This is different from the startup wizard which only asked for a WEP key and modem name. What to do?

My wifi has suddenly stopped working on my iMac, after working fine for almost a year. There is an exclamation mark on the wifi bars and when I click it, it takes me to a network diagnostics page. This page asks me for my username and password for the wifi, which I don't have. It is different from the WEP key and modem name, which I originally used to set up my connection. I have not experienced any problems on all my other wifi-enabled devices. Ipod touch, iPad, MacBook all work fine. What should I do?

The name is the name of the network you created on the router. The password is the WEP password. You shouldn't be using WEP at all, as it's insecure and also seems to cause connection failures. Use WPA 2 Personal. If your router doesn't support it, get a new one.
