Going to Canada for two weeks this summer--taking a GoPhone..

A little confused still...Looks like we can just buy minutes and make the trip?.. hopeing for an opinion on just useing roaming minutes vs having to buy a special canada/mexico plan...Will probably only use the phone from Canada 10 or 12 times for a few min. each time...then, coming back to the US...
Thanks

FIRST you must get AT&T to unlock your phone. They will only do this if you have paid off your contract or paid full price for the phone. Then you need to find a PAYG carrier in Canada. Last time I checked I couldn't find one. iMessage will work over WiFi whether the phone is locked or unlocked. You might want to just keep AT&T and add an international data plan: http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/international/roaming/affordable-world-package s.jsp#data.

69 cents a minute for calls, texts covered under an existing texting plan or the standard pay per text rate if you don't have one.
If you're traveling in Canada, contact Customer Service at 800-922-0204 from any landline phone.
Global Picture and Video Messages are billed at the same per-message rate as though they were sent from the U.S. Accordingly, you can send/receive Picture and Video Messages with customers of:
    Verizon Wireless (domestic rates/bundles apply)
Other domestic carriers (domestic rates/bundles apply)
Canadian, Mexican and Puerto Rican carriers (domestic rates/bundles apply)
Select International carriers (global rates apply)
When sending or receiving there's an additional data transport charge billed at the destination's Data Pay per Use Rate multiplied by the size of the Picture or Video, which can vary greatly.
A data network is required to send picture or video outside the U.S. See the Data Roaming List for eligible destinations.
Attempts to send Pictures or Videos are charged, even if the delivery fails.
Text Messages sent or received while in Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands are billed as though you were in the U.S.

  • Leaving macbook pro plugged in to mains for two weeks

    Hi,
I'm going away for a couple of weeks and want to set an "out of office" on my mail account.
I understand the laptop has to be switched on for this to happen, so i was thinking to set a schedule where my laptop will switch on and shut down each day.
Only query is battery. Obviously the battery isnt going to last for two weeks, so will leaving it constantly plugged into the mains for two weeks harm it? Are there any alternatives?
    Thanks for any help.

Make the rule at the server end rather than the client. If this is an iCloud account login to the website and use the vacation responder provided, then you can just shut your Mac off and senders of email will get the response. Most other major email providers offer the same feature.

Hello mlazaretti. Vacation time is awesome. (Especially a road trip!) Since you will be going out for two weeks, you never know if having extra data may come in handy. I highly recommend switching to the next tier up so this way you have more data. This way it is only $10.00 more versus $15.00, and you dont have to worry about overages. Then change back at the start of the next billing cycle.

if you can not unlock your ipad, you need to plug it into itunes and do a restore.
If it will not ben able to restore you need to put it in dfu mode (holding down power and home for 10 seconds untill the screen goes completly blank) and then itunes will say it is in 'recovery'. Try that

I get a message on my wife's iPad " this iPad has nor been backed up,for two weeks, an iPad backs up when it is connected to wifi, locked, and charging". The message will not go away, hit cancel and it does nothing iPad is frozen on this screen.  Plugged it in closed cover for a few hours, still frozen, what to do?

PRINTERS:     HPENVY110 SERIES AND HP C310A
I had a few automatic updates to my computers and it would seem that since then I have not
been able to sign in Eprint for two weeks - I tick the box but that does not work.    I so need the E print
and I am lost without it - can anyone help.

Hi smudden, did the software update on your computer include an update to your browser e.g. IE8 updated to IE9? If so you could try reverting back to the previous browser version to see if that is the issue.
However be aware that you don't have to be signed in to your ePrintCenter account to send emails to an ePrint printer

  • "keep me signed in for two weeks" box

In the past, when I checked the "keep me signed in for two weeks" box,  It was possible to forego the signing in every time I wanted to view my email account.  Lately however, this is ignored and I must log in with my email name and password every time I go to the home page.  This doesn't happen in Google Chrome or AOL.  It's a minor thing, but still annoying.  Anyone else have this problem?

We have had this problem forever, along with the ever changing MyVerizon Home Page. We can tell when our login is going to fail based upon what user name it greets on the top right-hand side of the page. I continue to post how many logins we can have per day and VZ employees continue to spew the company lie that this is for our protection. The VZ line is that the logouts are to prevent someone else from accessing your account and changing settings. Now we all know how often family members get in and purposely change settings. Perhaps VZ should employ some engineers and programmers who can fix the problem that VZ claims isn't a problem.

  • Turning servers off for two weeks (Safe?)

The air conditioning unit in our server room has broken down. The room is very small with 4 servers in it and there is no other way to ventilate the room to let the heat out. Currently we have
the door open, but this will need to be shut for next 2 weeks for security reasons.
The site is not in use for the next two weeks, is there any issue with turning the server off for two weeks?
I know in the past there was a risk of hard drive seizing up, is this still the case? All of the hard drives are SAS drives and the oldest server is around 6-7 years old.
    I would appreciate some input.

If the servers are not needed, then powering them down seems a reasonable option.
Risks concerning hard drives seizing up disappeared several generations of disk drives back.... or maybe we just quit turning off computers and it just doesn't happen anymore.
On the other hand, it's unlikely that four servers are going to generate enough heat to be an issue. Today's servers are actually pretty heat tolerant in terms of ambient room temperature, and while you might not want to run a bunch of 'em in a 90F
room permanently, a couple of weeks may be quite tolerable.
One approach might be to put a thermometer in the room, close the door for a couple hours, then come back and check the temperature and compare it to the documented/supported ambient room temperature for each server.
In the end, it seems like it's just a comparison of two risk factors:
The risk of the machine not starting up vs the risk of the machine overheating due to ambient temperature.
Which risk seems more certain? :-)
Then again... your question was posted over two weeks ago, so maybe the real question is what you actually did do, and how it worked out.

  • IPod Touch sreen stops working after getting wet. After, work again normally for two weeks. Now, sometimes work, sometimes don't. Any clues?

My iPod took a bit of rain when i'm cooming home. After that, the touch stops responding. I tried restart and everything, but I only get to destroy the iOS. After, I put the iPod under the notebook in order to try to dry him with the heat. The touch work again! I restored the iOS and everything goes fine for two weeks. Yesterday, I plug the iPod for use the iTunes and he wasn't recognized by the iTunes, and the touch stops working again. I restored again the iTunes start to recognize him, but the touch works for a little bit and stop again. I put it under the note and the touch works for time enough for me to turn off the iPod. Anybody has any ideia what is going on? Thanks.
PS.: Sorry about my terrible english. Is not my mother langage.

Thanks guys, I shut the thing off and left in a bowl with uncooked rice, in found several tips on the net saying that this might help absorve the wet, also this don't seem capable of creating damage to me. I think I will left the iPod in the bowl for three days before turning it on again, that seems ok?
7 to 10 days is better, and the failure rate is very high, you may need a new iPod.

  • I have been editing project for two weeks and now I get ghosts of other images fromt eh project coming up in the wrong places even though the thumbnail looks right. Help.

Help. I have been editing a project for two weeks and now it gets ghosts of ohter images from the project coming up in the wrong places. The thumbnail has the correct image but the image either does not display and its black or an old image or another one shows.

When I have problems like this I do two things. First I shut down and restart iMovie. Sometimes that rejuggles the date. But I am sure you have been doing that in such a long project.
The Second thing I do is delete iMovie preferences, which can get corrupted.

  • What do I need to do to power off my Ipad.  It has a message on the screen that it has not been backed up by icloud for two weeks and will not respond to anything.

I charged my Ipad last night and this morning there was a message from icloud that it has not been backed up for two weeks.  I tried to click the ok but it will not respond.  I cannot even power off the Ipad.  Does anyone know what I should do?

A reset should help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off button at the same time for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons and await restart. No content will be affected.

  • Order in progress for two weeks after the appointm...

    Hello,
I have ordered BT Broadband on the New Year's Day. The appointment has been set for for two weeks ago - the Kelly Communications technician couldn't set up the line as there was a (unidentified) fault at the Exchange. The day after an Openreach technician showed up to look into the phone line but he also wasn't able to resolve the issue and advised to wait for BT to get in touch when the issue at the Exchange is sorted.
Over the last 13 days there was no communication from BT regarding my order, I called them twice and the response was the same: we're looking at it, there is a fault at the Exchange, we'll come back with an update (which obviously they didn't).
I have two concerns that I hope you can comment on:
    - Is there a point in getting in touch with the Exchange directly? Would they be able to look into it in paralell to the BT's efforts?
    - Is that possible the issue at the Exchange is unfixable within any reasonable timeframe (as BT support cannot provide any)? Can I in such case withdraw from the contract with BT and cancel the order without any adverse effects (fines etc.)
    I would appreciate your help.

Well I thought I'll share an update.
So getting extremely frustrated I have posted on this forum in high hopes that someone will finally pay attention to my order. It was Wednesday. I also called the BT (not-so-very-)help(-ful) line the very same day just to be told that I need to wait for an update until Monday. On Monday I have been made an appointment with a technician to come on Friday (today), 8am-1pm. I have received a phone call at 2pm (when I've already been in the office for 0.5h) from the technician who was standing at my door.
To sum it all up, 10 days since when I had already been extremely frustrated I am in the very same position, having no phone line / broadband, my case didn't move forward by an inch. I have already stopped hoping to be treated seriously, with respect etc. I just hope that there is somebody out there in BT who has some leftovers of humanity and compassion who can treat a fellow human being with dignity it deserves.
