Going To Europe From North American MBP- How To Charge

Hello, I need a bit of help understanding if MBP has a built in power converter. And do I just need to change the "plug in tip " with an adapter
Thanks,
Marc

The MBP's power adapter (the 'power brick') can use 100-240 V and 50/60 Hz, so it works pretty much anywhere in the world as long as you get a plug adapter to change your flat, two-prong North American plug to whatever is needed in your destination (in your case, the round two-prong European plug).

Has anyone gone to Europe from the US and used the IPAD charger with only a plug adapter?  I want to be sure I won't burn up my IPAD.

Just using an adapter will be fine.  The charger can handle to 220V just as well as the 110V

  • Sending North American MBP to Europe?

    Hello,
I am considering to give my 1 year old MBP to my friend in Europe.
So I am wondering: because this machine was purchased in North America, would all it's functions working in Europe? (Including internet, possibility to do repairs if necessary, etc.)
    Thank you for your advise.

All Mac's are international machines so your friend could easily use your machine. Depending on what country they're in they may have to localize it however that is a simple task. The power requirements on MBP's are 100V-240V so that would be fine too, at the most they would need a plug adapter. If your MBP is covered by AppleCare or any remaining warranty that would also follow the machine as they are tied to the serial number not the owner.
That's very kind of you to consider doing this and if you decide to do so I'm sure your friend will have many years of enjoyment.

  • International travel with MBP--how to charge?

I'm preparing to leave the country for a month. Although I'm worried I'll somehow screw up my MacBook by bringing it along, I can't help myself.
Has anyone else charged one outside the country? Or charged a PowerBook? (I'm pretty sure the adapters are fairly equivalent, at least in the way they function.)
I'm going to Chile, which is 220V country, and I've heard that the white power brick should automatically convert/handle this voltage as long as I have a plug adapter to attach to the brick's prongs for use in different sized plugs.
Since I'm paranoid--and don't want to add "smoke emissions" to the whine, scorching heat, and the rest my MBP's known problems-- I'm curious if anyone else has verified this. And if so, which kind (brand) of adapter was used. Compared to others, Apple's own adapter seems pretty expensive.
When I called AppleCare yesterday, the rep said he thought I'd be ok, but his reticence didn't exactly instill confidence.
Anyway, thanks in advance for the help.

Apple sells their "World Travel Kit" for $39:

These work with any Apple AC adapter that uses the interchangeable plugs such as your iPod, PowerBook, iBook, Airport Express, and of course MacBook Pro.
As others have said, the AC adapter is good for 100-220V, so you don't need a power converter, just the right plug type.
Alternatively you could buy generic plug adapters that allow you to plug the US style plug in one side and then plug the adapter into the foreign outlet. In my experience these don't work very well with heavy AC adapters like the MBP as the weight of the AC adapter pulls it out of the weak plug adapter. I find the Apple version much better, even if it is a bit more expensive.

How can I transfer video taken with my iPhone to my iPad WITHOUT using a computer or iTunes? I'm going to Europe for a month and want to use my iPhone to take pics and video, then come back to the hotel room and use my iPad to edit/store each evening. I don't want to use my iPad to take the video...too large/bulky. And I WON'T have a computer with me...I purchased the iPad to take with me so I could use the RDC to my home computer and avoid taking my computer at all. Is this possible?

here is a cheaper solution than camera kit and a lot easier if you have WIFI available.
I use the PhotoSync APP (I think its a $1.99) will transfer videos and photos over WIFI to any other IOS device or even PC/MAC. Great app since I like doing video and photos on my IPHONE and transfer to IPAD2 without synching through computer or doing cloud based storage.
You can even send photos/videos from your MAC/PC to your IOS devices that way too. Makes it so much easier.

How do I switch from the American to the British store?

You are here in the UK with a UK billing address on your account ? If you are, and the stores think think that you are in the US, then try going to the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app on your phone and tap on your account id, then tap on 'View Apple ID' on the popup and log into your account, and then select the Country/Region section and select the UK.

  • E72 (north american version), to use in Europe/UK

I'm currently in the US and looking to buy a (less expensive) unlocked e72 (North American version - NAM) - and bring it to the UK to pop in a SIM when I arrive.  I've gotten different answers from the Nokia USA people, and I'd like to know if this will work completely there - calls, SMS/MMS, 3G, HSDPA.  The sole difference looks like:
    E72-1 Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 900/2100 HSDPA (Euro)
    E72-3 Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/2100 HSDPA (NAM)
Thoughts, experiences?  Any info is much appreciated!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You left out the E72-2 Quad-band EGSM 850/900/1800/1900, WCDMA 850/1900 HSDPA. This device will not give access to 3G networks in Europe and Asia. The E72-3 might give access to some 3G networks that use the 2100 MHz band.

  • Using a North American PowerBook in Europe (Istanbul, Turkey)?

    Hello,
My wife is traveling to Istanbul (Turkey) with work and she'll be bringing my PowerBook 12" with her. It looks like Istanbul uses the same electricity type as France (220V at 50 Hz with a double-pinned round plug) so I don't imagine there should be any problem plugging in the PowerBook while there as long as she's using the correct adapter to convert the North American plug-type to the type needed. We were in Paris last year and had no problems, so I'm thinking it should be the same with Istanbul, but would appreciate any advice anyone may have?
And, while I've never read anything definitive to confirm this, is it true that the power bricks that come with the PowerBook actually convert the power so as to be able to use it in different parts of the world (as long as you have a plug adapter)? Like I said, I've had no problems doing this in the past, so I assume this is true, but again, just wondering if anyone knows for sure?
    Thanks!
    Kristin.

To answer this question you can always look at the label on the power supply (of any appliance, not just Macs). If it only says 120, it's only going to work on US-type power grids and you'll need a transformer too. If it says something like 100-240 volts, it's good anywhere in the world and you only need an adapter, no transformer.
My brick has labels on two sides and the voltage range is listed on only one of those, so if you don't see it, turn it around.
You might consider an adapter with a surge protector if the power quality at the destination might be unstable.

You are very welcome.  I lived in France for a couple years and wish I could buy books from the French bookstore but cannot so am very familiar with this issue.
Part of the problem is concerned with international copyright laws.

  • Can I use a north american iPhone4S in Europe?

can I use a north american iPhone4S in Europe?

All iPhones can be used anywhere as long as you're willing to pay the high roaming charges.  To use it with a local carrier SIM card, the phone has to be officially unlocked.
FYI, there is no such thing as a "North American" iPhone.  Phones are sold by country.  It the US there are CDMA phones sold as well as GSM.  The CDMA iPhone 4S (not the iPhone 4)  (Verizon and Sprint) can be used in Europe GSM carrers on a roaming basis.  Verizon will unlock the GSM for use with a local SIM under certain circumstances.  Sprint does not.

  • Can I buy Adobe CC from an American online store if I'm from Europe?

    Hello,
I've been trying to find an affordable way to buy Adobe Creative Cloud for some time. As I'm from Europe (Poland), I don't have enough money to pay the price in euro. I could, however, buy it from an American online store (e.g. here: Adobe Creative Cloud 1-Year Subscription 61101750 B&H Photo | B&H Photo Video ). It's the maximum price I can pay. The question is: will I be able to use it here in Poland and will it be legal to do so? I would appreciate an honest response.

I don't work for Adobe, but I don't think you will be able to activate and use a US version with an Adobe ID registered in Poland
