Going to Hong Kong & Tokyo - do I need any special adapters (beyond plugs)?

Does the MacBookPro have the appropriate electronics to handle the power provided from outlets in Hong Kong and/or Tokyo?

Hi Allen,
Pick up this adapter kit, and you will be good to go......

Hi, Santosh..., and welcome to the Community,
I would recommend testing the SMS reply forwarding to your mobile number.  Depending upon the results and if this works for you, you could then contact Skype Customer Service to cancel and request a refund.
In other words, SMS will be received via your mobile number, not via your Skype Number.

  • Do i need any special type of cover to have my iPhone 5 replaced?

Okay so the charging port on my iPhone 5 is completly messed up due to the charger, I was told apple should replace it because i do have Apple Care for one year.
You can see the charging pin inside of the phone has seperated and it will not charge at all

You don't need any coverage to have the device replaced. If your device is in warranty, take it to an Apple Store and you will receive a new device for free, and if it's not in warranty, you will have to pay for a new one

  • Im going to hong kong do i need an adaptor

As it says above Im going to HK and bringing my 3 year old powerbook. Do I need an adapter to plug my PB into an outlet. It appears it will take the voltage (220) per specs. I have a 0 - 1875 converter but it says not to use it with computers. Any advice?

All you need is a simple plug adapter. The Apple AC adapter can handle the AC power anywhere in the world.

  • Using iPhone Safari via wifi while in Hong Kong

I will be in Hong Kong and will not need to use my iPhone as a phone while there (ie- I am not getting international roaming), but wonder if I can still use Safari and mail with a wifi connection at a hotspot in Hong Kong- like you would a laptop?
    Thanks!

Yes you certainly can with no data charges but visual voicemail is downloaded to the iPhone via the cellular network only so even with data roaming off, this will not prevent the download of visual voicemail messages nor will it prevent you from receiving an SMS which is charged extra but you may not exchange SMS with anyone.
The only way to ensure no data charges whatsoever is by removing the iPhone's SIM card and placing it in a safe place which won't prevent you from accessing the internet via Wi-Fi.

  • Purchasing FCP upgrade in US when FCP 5 was purchased in Hong Kong

This may be a dumb question, but I have a friend that wants to buy me an upgrade to Final Cut Pro Studio (I currently have Final Cut Pro 5) in the US. I purchased my copy of FCP in Hong Kong. Will there be any problems with my friend purchasing FCP Studio for me in the US and giving it to me when he visits (I don't live in the US)?

Hi wokboy, I see you just registered here today, so welcome to the Discussions.
Are you referring to Apple's current offer to upgrade (in your case) FCP5 to Final Cut Studio for $99? If that's the case, then you'll first need to send your FCP install disk to your friend, and he will have to send it on with payment and the upgrade form to Apple.
    More info here:http://www.apple.com/universal/crossgrade/
If you use the standard US English version, I don't think it would be a problem.

  • US Iphone 4 failed in Hong Kong - Service Help Please

    Greetings Gurus,
I just started a 3-week international tour with my iphone 4.  I'm in Hong Kong, then Singapore, then Amsterdam.  My iphone 4 died last night.  It just cycles between the boot-up apple and the "slide to open" screen about every 2 seconds until the battery runs down.  It does not respond to screen touch input at all, even when the slider is visible.  I was hoping that letting it totally discharge would reset it but applying power just starts the same cycle again.
I do not see any genius bar options in Hong Kong...still need to check Singapore and Amsterdam.  But I need my phone now.  Anyone have any ideas for help or service?  Anyone seen this problem before?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    tantrayogi

I'm from Scottsdale too.  Here in HK for the first leg of my trip.  I found an international support number for HK on the Apple support site.  They told me the same thing.  I did the factory restore and all seemed to be working.  But when it was done, it did the same thing.
    Also thanks

I would feel totally bummed and actually quite PO'd if I cannot get service.  Apple should Fed Ex me a new phone if repair service is unavailable.  This one was a new replacement as of about June 3 for a separate hardware problem on my first one.  I'm paying a monthly fee to Verizon for a phone that doesn't work (violins playing in the background).
Any more suggestions at this point would really help.
    Thanks

  • If I buy a MacBook Pro on hong kong, will it be in English?

I'm going to hong kong next week and I thinking about buying a new MacBook pro, but I scared it will be in Chinese. Does anyone knows if it's in English?

You can get it in English. (HK official languages are Chinese and English.)
However, check prices first (you can do it on-line)
    <http://store.apple.com/hk>
as well as exchange rates. You may not like HK prices.

  • Online Hong Kong store

I live in the uk and i'm going to Hong Kong next week. I have family there and I want to order a MacBook Pro with retina display using the online Hong Kong store. Will the keyboard be an English keyboard?

Im having the same situation with my ipod touch that I ordered on 7th of Sep. I also ordered from HK apple online store.
ITs been 13 days, the status just jumps from "NOT YET SHIPPED" and "PREPARED FOR SHIPMENT" over and over again..
Been calling Apple Order Status Reps, but got no helpful answer as to why this is happening, they just keep telling me ok yes, the item will be shipped end of today (for five days now).. Requested to speak with a manager, till date he hasn't called me back to explain the situation.. Really disappointing.
Also, the number to call listed on the website "800-908-988" is pretty much impossible to get thru. What I mean is, calling 30 times maybe you'll get one time that you can actually get into the switchboard menu, other times, it will just give you a busy tone. They should fix something about this.
Well, I guess I'll just never order from the online store again.
Just wanted to share, and if the original poster has any suggestion on how to get a complaint across to apple corporate. Please advise.
    Thanks

  • Going to London from US.  Do I need any kind of special charger or will a plug adapter be enough?, going to London from US.  Do I need any kind of special charger or will a plug adapter be enough?

I'm going to London for 6 months.  Will I need any special converters for my Apple products to charge or is the plug adapter enough?

MBP, iPad and iPhone use a universal power supply/charger, so you will only need the UK plug adapter. If you run into probems you could always buy an approprate UK charger at a London Apple Store.

  • The charsetalias.properties file is gone in Firefox 4? Most web sites in Hong Kong use the Big5-HKSCS charset but declare the charset as Big5. Without charsetalias.properties, the encoding needs to be manually changed very often when viewing them.

I have been defining Big5 as an alias of Big5-HKSCS in charsetalias.properties. This makes Firefox renders pages declared as "Big5" to be rendered in Big5-HKSCS instead. Big5-HKSCS is a standard published by the Hong Kong government because the Big5 charset does not contain many common Chinese characters used in Hong Kong. However, Big5-HKSCS is just an extension of Big5, so most (if not all) Chinese web sites in Hong Kong using Big5-HKSCS declare their pages to be in Big5 in the <meta> tag.
I am now trying out Firefox 4 RC and found that the charsetalias.properties file is no longer there. So in order to read pages containing characters that are in Big5-HKSCS but not in Big5, I need to switch the encoding manually. This is extremely inconvenient. Can you consider bringing charsetalias.properties back?
[http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.dev.i18n/browse_thread/thread/415caa98a6246a00 Someone noticed this issue as well.]

Here's the script I was working on.
It determines the encoding of the site by checking a couple of different ways the meta tag can supply encodings. One way is to have a charset attribute on a meta tag, and the other way is to have a meta tag with http-equiv="content-type" and have charset= be part of the content attribute.
(note: I think [https://developer.mozilla.org/en/DOM/document.characterSet document.characterSet()] might be a far more reliable way to detect encoding since it doesn't depend on the specific way the meta tag was written. But I haven't tested it.)
Debugging messages showed that it could detect the specified encodings fine on the few test pages I was trying it on. The problem is in the way I change the encoding.
It currently uses .setAttribute to attempt to modify the meta tags once it finds the encodings. Unfortunately, this doesn't change the selected encoding in Firefox. It doesn't affect the page source, either.
I have to replace those setAttribute calls with something that will actually affect the selected encoding in Firefox.... but I'm not sure what would accomplish that.
    http://pastebin.com/Yt7fygXe
Just a little warning, it's case- and whitespace-sensitive because I didn't get around to using regular expressions yet. So if a page says charset="BIG5", you'll probably need to make it uppercase in the script as well. Sorry, I'm lazy!
Nonetheless, I ''hope'' this is a start...

  • Create a new company DB in Hong Kong Localization

    Hallo,
I have to create a new company DB with Hong Kong Localization, but I can't find it in the list.
You can see that in the attached file.
Should I choose P.R.China Localization and than Hong Kong as Country or may be a bug?
    Thank you for your cooperation.
    Michela

    Hi Michela,
I found today your post in which I'm really interested in.
How did you solved the problem about HK Localization?
Did you realized that an HK Localization actually exist or did you finally adapted the PRC Localization?
As soon as IT services install the new HK company the localization translate everything inside SAP B1 NewCO in Chinese.
We finally find the preference to switch the various menus into English, though it seems that - except for normal menus and  - all other operative windows may present chinese indication.
    Here a sample image:
Whatever we do we are not able to make SAP translate those voices in chinese and some other we find going around inside the system.
Do you have the same problem? or did you manage to solve it.
In addition whenever we prin any situation from the newco, every report comes out written in chinese.
The only solution they could sugest is to create and import some reports from UK localization in order to have those reports we may need in english.
On my opinion this is an unsatisfactory solution.
Looking forward to read from you
Thanks in advance for you kindness

  • Should I purchase CDMA or GSM iPhone for use in U.S. and Hong Kong/China?

I currently have an unlocked GSM iPhone 4 that I bought in Hong Kong, and have been using it in the US through Straight Talk. I love having the flexibility of an unlocked phone when I travel. Unfortunately, the GSM networks in my area are pretty spotty, and Verizon's CDMA coverage is MUCH better. Not to mention the data speed is really slow.
I'd like to purchase an unlocked iPhone 5s without a contract, and hopefully be able to use it on the CDMA network here in america, while still have GSM available for use when I travel back and forth to Asia.
The pros and cons of GSM vs. CDMA iPhones are still pretty muddy for me, but it sounds like buying a CDMA iphone would be better for my situation because I could utilize both networks when traveling, and yet have the best speed/coverage in my current home in the US.
Straight talk or Page Plus is what I'm looking to for carriers. Verizon's too expensive for me.
    Here are my questions:
    1. Does my choosing CDMA seem to be the best choice? Or are there any cons regarding purchasing CDMA that I've overlooked? I've heard people say there is no such thing as an unlocked CDMA iphone. My biggest concern is that I arrive in Asia and find that some CDMA lock prevents me from using any other carrier--CDMA or GSM. (Both networks are available there, btw.) I need to make sure I can use data and make calls when I'm there.
    2. If a CDMA iphone is the best choice for me, how do I purchase the right one without a contract? Apple store? Verizon? Straight Talk (do they sell CDMA iphones)?Canada? Ebay seems kinda risky to get an iPhone with the specifications I need.
    3. Does a CDMA iphone still have the slot for sim cards? That's how I've always switched carriers when in Asia.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know that StraightTalk disabled their iphone's GSM capabilities. Guess I won't be going there to buy one.
    A few follow-up questions...
So is a SIM slot only used for GSM? This is something I never knew. I assumed for any network (GSM or CDMA) that a new sim card was the way you changed numbers/networks.
I've heard people mentioning that they've been able to buy Verizon iphones and use them on PagePlus, but this information was a year or two old, so perhaps things have changed with the newer models/carrier contracts. Do you know of any people who have had success in using a Verizon iPhone 5s on the PagePlus network?
