I have put a slideshow on my webpage, works in browser preview but doesn't work on Safari or Firefox when uploaded. Help?

Slideshow Action -- Auto start

I've used the slideshow action In GoLive once before, but in conjunction with a mouse click and it worked fine. However, I now want to have a slideshow on the home page of a website and have the slideshow begin automatically when the page is opened. The "slideshow auto" action seems to require either a mouse or keystroke event as a trigger. How can I get the slideshow to begin automatically upon page opening. I'm assuming it can be done easily, I just can't seem to figure it out . . . I'm utilizing a Mac/2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo/2GB RAM running MacOS 10.4.11 and GoLive CS2 . . .

Problem with slideshow in iPhoto. Photos look like they are all the right way up but when in slideshow action some are sideways.

even though all photos look like they are the right way up, when the slideshow commences, some of them display sideways. I have tried re-rotating them - and still have same problem. Help please - need it for Saturday night !

What version of iPhoto are you using? Are you creating the slideshow directly from an album or are you using the slideshow mode?
As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

Best way to do a simple slide animation in GoLive 6?

Hi,
I'm an illustrator and manage my own site (only) in GoLive 6. I only update rarely and this last time it has been 3 years. My index page has a single image, but I'd like to use 4 or 5 images cycling in that spot with the best "disolve" I can get.

I've tried building the animation as a swf file in Imageready (cs2) = 10 second download of 3.4mb file in DSL=nonstarter...then tried an animated gif in which is about the same size, with much worse image quality, and it loads immediately and plays while continuing to load....so could work, but not ideal. I see that GoLive has a slideshow action, but cannot figure out how to do it.... Will that be with no dissolve setting=harsh transition if I just have the 4 or 5 images as jpegs with no transition files, or is there a way to do that automatically?
I do have photoshop cs3, but haven't yet loaded it.

Slideshow in CS

In GL CS, I'd like an automatic slideshow of nine images on my website (never done a slideshow before). Following GoLive CS Help for SlideShow and SlideShowAuto, I placed the first image. It then says:
"...enter a unique alphanumeric name in the More tab of the Image Inspector. Trigger the SlideShow action with a user-triggered or timeline-triggered event, or trigger the SlideShowAuto action with a user-triggered or timeline-triggered event, or with a browser-triggered event set to OnLoad. Choose Action > Multimedia > SlideShow or SlideShowAuto. From the Base Image menu, choose the starting image. For # of Images, enter the total number of images in the slide show."
I don't see where to enter an alphanumeric name in the More tab, nor do I see where to trigger an event. I also don't know where to find Choose Action >, etc, or where the Base Image menu is.
Would appreciate some help!

The only thing I'd like to have is an automatically triggered event when the page appears, not a user one. It looks like that can happen where the instruction is the browser-triggered event set to OnLoad. How is that done?

Can I create iWeb hyperlinks from individual slides in slideshow?

I have made a slideshow in iPhoto and dragged it onto my iWeb homepage. I now want to make links between each individual slide and one of my pages. Is this possible. When I click the link icon in the inspector the slides on the slideshow will not highlight to allow links to be made. Is there another way to do this?Thanks.

I don't know about the iWeb slideshow as I don't use it but there are lots of choices for a banner/slideshow that will do what you want...

I am trying to add a slideshow to my homepage on iWeb? I need it to automatically start scrolling when the page is opened. I have no idea about what software, if any, that I can use. PLEASE HELP!

What you are referring to is a banner rather than a slideshow.

Problem to launch slideshow with automator

Hi,
i need to launch, at the computer start, a slideshow that i created. For this, i used automator, drag and drop the action "Launch a slideshow". But on the right panel, i do not have access to the list of my albums in order to find my slideshow. What should i do? I am using Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.9.

That depends on what application you are trying to use to play the slideshow.
If it's iPhoto, you need to use an action before that one to specify the slideshow from within iPhoto. Try iPhoto's action "Get Specified iPhoto Items" to name a specific slideshow by using the "+" button in the lower left corner of the action, and then have the "Play iPhoto Slideshow" action.
If it's some other application that doesn't manage the slideshows and photos, for example Keynote, then use Finder's action "Get Specified Finder Items" to specify the file. After that, use the application's action to play the slideshow.
If you need to open the file in the application before playing it, you can use Finder's action "Open Finder Items" to choose which application to open the file. I don't think it will be necessary, but I don't know what application you are using so I can't try it out.

I do not know how to reload/reinstall "ADOBE" golive default actions. I'm using golive cs mac version and "ON LOAD" action. I can't select it when creating a golive action.....It converts it or something to a rollover..
How can I reistall basic adobe actions???

I just remembered I have a couple of screen snaps online to explain how
it's done:
1. place your base image and name it in the inspector
2. from the smart objects palette grab the head action item, the one
with a question mark in its upper, green half - the 2nd one from the
left. Drop that into the pages head section.
3. in the inspector set the action to run OnLoad and select the base
image that you named in the first step and set the other parameters.
This was done in the days of GL6, but not much had changed in GL CS.
Anyway you might also refer to GL's online help. It describes how to set
up all the actions that ship with GL.

Clarification of slideshow question

Perhaps I need to make myself clearer. Here is the page I'm working on: http://www.breitenbush.com/gallery/gallery.html
I have Flash slideshows I want to trigger from the links (Facilities :: Springs :: Seasons :: River :: Flora 'n Fauna :: Community :: Activities) and I want them to show up in the area where the wide photo is currently. I want that photo to go away once someone starts clicking on the links (it's just for looks the first time someone goes to the page.) These aren't GL slideshow actions so there isn't the issue of one per page. Please help with this. Thank you!

I like using the slideshow option in iDVD. It is not as exact iMovie, but is much faster. If you have music with words that you want to match exactly to images, then iMovie is better (though slower). If your music has no words, then it is fairly easy to use the iDVD slideshow option.
I prefer using the "1 second" option over "FIt to Audio." It is easier to add or remove an image to get the slideshow flow to turn out right. Also, be prepared for music to run out before images do. This is more of a problem in "fit to audio" than in specified intervals (1 second, 3 second, etc.)
One problem I have is that what I see on preview in iDVD is NOT what i see on my TV when I am showing my DVD. The music (from iTunes) lags on living room playback in comparison to what I see on "Preview" in iDVD. Still, with a few adjustments and repeat burns, I can get it to turn out fairly well.
Take home: iDVD slide show is much faster. iMovie is more accurate. You can decide which is more important to you.
Now if only I could figure out why my music lags on the burned DVD compared to Preview!

Thumbnail image links to larger image - how?

Mac OX 10.4.11 - GoLive CS(1) I want to create a series of thumbnail images that would act as link to a single large image area (see example http://www.markvelasquez.com/gallery.php?cid=1&pid=5 but ignore the dubious images). 10 or so different thumbnail images would show singularly in the large image area only, and only when activated by a click on a thumbnail.
I have used slide show (SlideShow.action) in the past but this does not allow for user randon choice, is there an action for this in GoLive.

You didn't mention whether you wanted a free or commercial Action so have a look at CyberGallery 6.1 for GoLive at http://www.actionscafe.com/Features_Folder/CyberGallery/cgfeatures.html. The GoLive version doesn't have some of the later Dreamweaver features but will let you set up a thumbnails that expand into full size display images when they are clicked.

Can't make Flash button work in firefox and safari

I'm creating an Entry Page slideshow here with Flash Cs3 and AS2:

I'd like to be able to click on the whole slideshow (or the "Enter Site" text) to go to another page on the site, which I'm calling "vaforestwild.com/home.html." I've read various tutorials all day and tried many things, but couldn't seem to apply any "on release" action to the "Enter Site" text that would work. I even created an invisible button (putting a keyframe on just the HIT state and deleting it from the UP state), named the instance "invbutton3", and then typed in this action on the first frame and inserted a keyframe at the end of the show:

The cursor changes to a hand, but nothing happens when clicking on the show. So I was experimenting with modifying the Object text in the head section of the index file where the slideshow is located and I stumbled on something that made the clickable link work in Internet Explorer, but not in Safari and Firefox. I modified the object text to read like this:

Since the html page didn't work, I tried dragging the swf file into my index page and Dreamweaver automatically produced the "embed object" text that I pasted in my previous email. Incidentally, I was mistaken when I said that text was in the head section. It wasn't, it was in the body. Here's the script code in the head section:

I believe my problem is most likely related to how I'm applying action to my button in Flash. I find the tutorials somewhat confusing and I am unable to do exactly what the tutorials say, even though the writers specify they are using AS2. I'm going to be continuing to try different things and I'll report back if I am successful. Can you run a workflow from within iPhoto?

I've created an automator workflow service which adds a date stamp to photos. In finder I right click on a .jpg file, and the select "Services -> Add date stamp to photo.
Is it possible to run workflows, i.e., user created services from withing iPhoto? I tried creating a service in automator which simply has a "Play iPhoto Slideshow" action and runs in "iPhoto.app", but when I run iPhoto and select an image, then select Services from the iPhoto menu, it is not visible.

My date script adds a small visible date to the actual photo itself based on the EXIF date tag. The batch command just changes the date of the file itself, I belive. Actually, it is possible to create automator workflow services which act on photos within iPhoto. You can see three below in the iPhoto Services menu that I've created, which I now use regularly.

Repaired Disk Permissions - Too many errors!

I uninstalled an Adobe Creative Suite upgrade to I could install the full version. To uninstall CS3, I followed the following instructions...
"Go to the /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers/ folder. First run the "Add or Remove Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium" app (or whatever yours is named). Follow the options to completely remove all CS3 programs. When that's complete, run the other item in the same folder, "Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit". It too has choices to completely remove its files. Once you have done both uninstall steps, then it will be complete and you can install the new version."
Except I couldn't find "Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit. (Stupid me, I was looking in a different folder. Hey, I'm still recovering from surgery, so my mind's a little fuzzy. )
Anyway, I installed CS3, then ran Disk Utility to repair my disk permissions. I was shocked to see dozens, maybe hundreds, of errors.
Eventually, the disk repair process completed. But I can't help but wonder what the significance of all those errors is. My best theory is that the errors simply reflect my failure to run the Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit. And now that I take a closer look, I'm still a little confused.
In my Applications > Utilities, there are two Adobe folders - Adobe Utilities and Adobe Installers. The latter contains a single file - "Add or Remove Adobe Creative Suite, Web Premium."
The folder Adobe Utilities contains two folders named Adobe Updater5 and ExtendScript Tooklkit 2.
At any rate, what would you advise me to do? I assume Disk Utility repaired the problems, and I can continue setting up the individual software programs. If I do run into serious problems, I can then uninstall CS3 again and reinstall it - right?

Repair permissions froze on this last log. So I don't know if anything was fixed.
Also note how long it took to run through all of this. Is this normal? Having all these errors? I wonder if this is the reason why I am unable to install 10.5.2

Applications list, no iPhoto

When I first received Tiger I deleted iPhoto thinking I would never use it. But I decided to reinstall it, but it’s not showing up in the Automator’s list of applications. Is there a way I can add it in there? Thanks in advance.

If you haven't already, make sure to run  Menu > Software Update, log out and back in, and see if the actions show up in Automator. It wouldn't hurt to fix permissions with Disk Utility.app while you're at it. Then in Finder select Go > Go To Folder (shift-command-G) and paste in
/System/Library/Automator/The first iPhoto action you would find in this folder is "Ask for Photos.action."
If the actions aren't there, you can find them on your Tiger installation DVD. In my first comment I had suggested you re-install Automator from the DVD, but this isn't a good idea because you'll end up being stuck with Automator 1.0. Subsequent releases of Automator were bundled with OS updates and are not available as standalone installers. These updates contained major bug fixes, so you'll want to keep your current version (1.0.3)
To extract just the iPhoto actions from your Tiger DVD, do the following:
1. Make a new folder on your hard drive or desktop called "Automator Resources" or similar.
2. Insert the Tiger installation DVD
3. hit shift-command-G
4. paste in the following path:
/Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/Packages/Automator.pkg/Contents
5. in the resulting folder, locate "Archive.pax.gz" and drag it to the folder you made on the hard drive.
6. open your folder and double click the copy of Archive.pax.gz
7. once it's uncompressed, navigate to
Archive > System > Library > Automator
8. In another window, open the /System/Library/Automator/ folder as before.
9. Compare the two folders and add in any actions that you think are missing from your machine. Here are some logical suggestions:
Ask for Photos.action
Review Photos.action
Convert iPhoto object to Album object.caction
iPhoto.definition
Get Specified iPhoto Items.action
New iPhoto Album.action
Play iPhoto Slideshow.action
Import Photos into iPhoto.action
Convert iPhoto object to Photo object.caction
If you've previously used the iPhoto '06 installer on the iLife '06 DVD, pay special attention to the modified / created dates of these files, as they appear to have updated since the Tiger release omm:
Convert iPhoto Album to Alias object.caction
Convert Alias object to iPhoto photo object.caction
Convert iPhoto Item Object to Alias Object.caction
