my photo library is gone!! and this message appear when trying to open iPhoto " which photo library do you want iPhoto to use" i have triend holding the option key and command key but leads me to the same message, Can anyone help please? i'm desperate

Does the file "iPhoto Library" simply no longer exist in your Pictures folder? You may have somehow erased it or put it in another location. Use Spotlight to search for "iPhoto Library" and see if you can find the file - the file will contain your "Masters" or "Originals" directory.
Good luck,

  • IPhoto prompt  "Which photo library do you want iPhoto to use? "

When I start iPhoto, a small window opens with the prompt, "Which photo library do you want iPhoto to use? " I have previously used iPhoto and am wondering if I should remove and reinstall iPhoto. Please help.

Thank you for the help. I deleted a couple apps that I had recently added, but the problem remained. Then, in other postings, I read that the problem was not uncommon and could be corrected by deleting the plist file; described as Mac 101. According to the postings, the plist file tracks specifics such as file location, and is replaced once the app is restarted. Have a great day !!!

  • I lost all of my iPhoto pictures i think. when i click on iPhoto it says "which photo library do you want iPhoto to use"

the version of my laptop is 10.8.5
there is no photo library anywhere on my computer
the "pictures" folder only has a "photo booth library" which i am not concerned with
i believe this has happened before (couple of months ago) but I'm not sure how i handled it and if it was the exact same situation
bottom line is that something pops up when i click on iPhoto and there is not photo library to choose from.
    please help!!

What happened between yesterday and now?  Did you update software? Install new software?
Did you run new software, for example cleaning applications?
Can it be, that you are now signed into your Mac from a different user account?
    Spotlight will not search everywhere.
Search with Find Any File for iPhoto Libraries -  download Find Any File here: The trial is free:
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.htmlhttp://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.php
You can search everywhere with FindAnyFile, where Spotlight will not search.
I learned this  from Old Toad , see his post here:
Re: My iPhoto Library disappeared...how do I get it back?
Download and run Find Any File to search for a file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the file name. These are files common to all versions of  iPhoto libraries.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If there's a library hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.

  • Which library do you want Aperture to use?

I always get the question "Which library do you want Aperture to use?" when I start Aperture.
Switch to Library only shows libraries I've used since I started Aperture. The list is empty if I restart Aperture.
    Why?
I have re-installed Aperture, verified disks and permissions, repaired and rebuilt libraries, but nothing has helped so far.
I have other issues too that might have connection to this one. See http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2559320&tstart=0 for a description.
    Thanks!

Not too sure what is causing this for you, however here is a work around.
Place your library in the dock and rather than launching Aperture via the Ap icon, click on the library icon, this additionally has the benefit of making it easy to choose which library you would like to open.
    Some more questions for you;
    1. Are you logged in to your Mac with an administrator account?
    2. Is Aperture sitting at the top level of the Applications directory?
    3. Get info on your System and library drives, in sharing and permissions do you have read and write privileges?
    4. Where is your library located, is it outside the "Users" folder structure? Aperture defaults to placing it within the picture folder for a user, this folder will not be available with full privileges to all users.

  • 'Which Photo Library Do you want to use' loop - HELP

I have a New (2013) MacBook Air with Version 10.9 OSX
Yesterday it crashed when i plugged in my iPhone - as usual it opened up iPhoto and attempted to sync.
Now everytime i plug in my iphone iphoto opens up a box saying
'Which photo library do you want iPhoto to use'
I only have one proto library.
    It has two options
    'Other Library'
    'Create New'
Selecting other library and attempting to select the only iphoto library i have - it doesn't allow me to open it (it is like the 'open' button is disabled)
Obviously i don't want to create new.
If i double click 'iPhoto Library' through finder it comes up with the same box.
I have gone back and attempted to replace the iPhoto Library with a backup from a couple of days ago which worked - ie the file copied across fine - BUT still get the same issue.
It is telling me that the iPhoto Library file size is 10.7 GB so it is obviously there.
I don't know what to do next :-(

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Cannot repair Aperture Library, "which library do you want to use"

When I open Aperture and hold down the option key I keep getting prompted for "which library do you want to use"
and it lists my current library and two backup with a , .BAK extension on two different disks.
So I cannot get to the repair options, I only get  "which library do you want to use".
How can I get to the repair options?
    much appreciated.

You need to press the key combination options-command to launch into the Library First Aid Tools:
Hold down the options key ⌥ and the command key  ⌘ at the same time, while launching Aperture. And keep the keys held down firmly, until you are seeing the Library First Aid panel. Then select "Repair Library" from the panel.
If you only hold  down the options key  ⌥, you will launch into the Library chooser panel to switch between libraries.
What is the reason, that you need to repair the Aperture library?

  • When I now open I Photo it asks "What photo Library do you want i photo to use?  Never did this before.

What happened?  I have beed using iphoto to download scanned photos - all of a suddent it asks, "What photo lib do you want i photo to use?"   Never had to do this before and nothing is available to choose?  Where did the old lib go?

I have the same issue with the Library of a friend. All of the sudden appeared the same message "What photo library...?" He chose the one already used and now doesn't appear the latest photos he has already added and edited. As far as I know, he hasn't deleted any other library. Neither Time Machine has a backuo of the latest photos. Weird stuff.

Hi when I open iPhoto it's says "What photo library do you want to use" Have I lost all my photos? I don't know what to do here can anyone help please?

Is there an item named "iPhoto Library.photo library" or similar in your "Pictures" folder, showing with an icon like a fan of pictures?
Or did you store your iPhoto Library in a different folder, perhaps on an external drive?
if you cannot find your iPhoto Library search for it with Find Any File, as described  by Old Toad in this post:

Download and use Find Any File to search for a file named "iPhoto6.Library".  It's a file unique to all iPhoto libraries.
FAF an search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, packages and system files.  If there's another iPhoto library hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.

  • Which user account do you want to use to run this program?

As of fairly recently, when I click to start Firefox, and just before it actually opens up, I get a the following screen:
"Which user account do you want to use to run this program?"
I have researched the internet and it seems as if many people have encountered this same problem.
What's causing it, is it dangerous to my computer and how can I get rid of this message?

This is a Windows feature that should only open if you right click on the Firefox icon and select ''Run As...".
Try creating a new shortcut to Firefox.<br>
You must make a shortcut to the <code>firefox.exe</code> in the Firefox installation directory.

  • Error message: There is a problem accessing one or more files in your iPhoto library. Do you want iPhoto to repair permissions for this library for you?

I have been using iPhoto for years.  Today when I tried to upload pictures from camera, I received the above error message.  I select "Repair", enter my password, and then a message "iPhoto was unable to repair permissions for the library" appears. I select "Quit" and it closes iPhoto.  Quit is the only option.  What has happened?  I have tried to access the photos via other avenues such as uploading to gmail, and the photos load fine.  I have about 28,000 photos.
I do not know what version of iPhoto I am using as I am unable to access the software.  I have a iMac OS X (10.7.5).  What should I do?

Select the iPhoto application in the Applications folder and type Command+i to bring up its Info Window. There will tell the version number. If it's iPhoto 9 or later apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
