Good AS 2.0 books...

Alrighty, so I don't do books. Any time I need something I go
to the web, but I am now going to teach an AS 2.0 class and need a
good book for my students. I'm going to Barnes and Nobles tonight
to look through some, but wondered if y'all have any
recommendations. Look forward to hearing your suggestions.

  • Looking for a good beginner/intermediate Java book

    Hello everyone,
I am looking for a good beginner/intermediate Java book. I have taken a couple of Java classes (Beginner programming + beginner Java) and have a fairly good understanding of the basics. What I want is a book that is going to build on that as well as give me some good practical problems to work on while I'm doing so. Can anyone recommend one or two good books that would fit the bill?
    Thanks!

Those three books are all excellent, but are all beginner books. When it comes to intermediate books I think you need to go topic by topic.

  • Any good Java object oriented book?

    Hi,
I am looking for a Java book that teaches good object oriented programming. Is there any good Java object-oriented book in the market?
    Thanks.

"Thinking in Java" 2nd Edition by Bruce Eckels. You
can download it from his website - the url escapes me
at the minute. You should be able to find it no
problem though.I second that recommendation (although it's "Eckel" without the "s"). He now has a Beta 3rd edition of the book.
    The URL is http://www.bruceeckel.com/

  • How can you tell photo quality is good for large photo books

I want to make a large photo book (13 X 10) and I have a good quality camera, but how do I tell the photos are good enough to blow up to that size.

I want to make a large photo book (13 X 10) and I have a good quality camera, but how do I tell the photos are good enough to blow up to that size
With a bit of arithmetic. Check the pixel size of your photos.
To print a good quality book you will need at least 200 pixels per inch to get the necessary dpi in the printout.
    So your photos should have a pixel size of  at least 13 x 200 by 10 x 200 = 2600 x 2000 pixels.
Check the Info panel for the pixel sizes of your selected photos.

  • Search advice for good ABAP-connect-Java Book

    Hi,
I want to navigate a Java-application in SAP.
    The Java-application is a routing-software.
    The SAP-user (the planner/coodinator) should choose a
    customer and a worker/sales-person in an ABAP-application.
So this the SAP-user plans, which sales person drives to
    which customer.
The ABAP-application should give this information to the java-application
which then plans the route! The user should not remark anything from
the communication between abap- and java-application.
Has anybody an idea with which technique I can realise the problem?
Can anybody advice me a good manual or book concerning this topic?

    Hi,
These are the recommended books for OO programming in ABAP.
    1.ABAP Objects: The Official Reference
    by Horst Keller, Joachim Jacobitz
This is systematic language reference book for ABAP Objects.
    2. ABAP Objects: Introduction to Programming SAP(R) Applications
    by Horst Keller, Sascha Kruger

  • Remember the good old days (power book)

got one of these new mac book pros had to change coz apple couldn't fix my g4. (took 4 weeks for apple to decide they couldn't fix it!) Then they give me a computer that is noisy, doesn't run my software properly anymore, wont play some avi files, won't eject cd's or dvds and is possibly going to send me to an institutuion because of the high pitch whine it constantly makes.
Please advise whether you think I should take it back and be without a computer for 4 more weeks while my phone calls get sent back and forth through a call center in india. Or consider joining the "dark side" which is starting to look alot brighter.

There are good MBPs out there - I have one. If mine had arrived doing what yours is doing I would be screaming at some one about 'consumer rights' and 'fit for purpose', and getting a new one. Don't know how it works where you are and with your retailer, but in the UK, buying mail order (unseen) gives you a no-questions-asked cooling off period and in any retail situation, if the product is not 'free of minor defects' or 'not fit for purpose' you can return it without quibble.
Check out your consumer rights laws - if you quote a few phrases to the manager (organ grinder, not monkey) they get a sense that it's not worth the trouble you might cause.

  • Good tuning links and books

can anyone please post good tuning books and links to learn sql and database tuning

It is kind of strange that every now and then I come across such post on these forums. But still I fail to understand that why do people in general ask questions that have wrong or incorrect approaches. Seems they do not read at all. My statement is not intended to anyone just my observation.

  • Good SSL & PHP Tutorial/Book

Anybody know of a good, in-depth, but still easy to understand resource for start-to-finish ssl with php?
    Thanks!

I don't use SSL, but "Pro PHP Security" by Chris Snyder and Michael Southwell devotes an entire chapter to the subject. Overall, it's an excellent book. It was published five years ago, but AFAIK is still up to date.

Of these, I can vouch for the ActionScript 3.0 Cookbook ...
    Joey Lott,
Darron Schall, and Keith Peters are top notch developers.
    This book has
helped me considerably, but it is aimed more toward the
    intermediate to
advanced programmer. If you want an intro book -- on
    programming, in any
    case -- I recommend Object-Oriented ActionScript for Flash 8,
    by Peter Elst
and Todd Yard, for ActionScript 2.0 programming (still
    perfectly valid in
Flash CS3 if you set your publish settings for AS2). For an
    AS3 intro,
consider Foundation ActionScript 3.0 with Flash CS3 and Flex
    2, by Steve
    Webster and Sean McSharry.
For a general intro to Flash -- not especially
    code-oriented, but with a
healthy dose of ActionScript -- I can also vouch for
    Foundation Flash CS3
for Designers. It's available for pre-order, not quite ready
    yet, but I
have a great personal interest in it because I co-authored
    that one with Tom
Green. ;) For voluminous animation-specific tips, I highly
    recommend Chris
Georgenes' How to Cheat in Adobe Flash CS3 ...

  • Beginner: Whats a good beginner as3 coding book?

Can anyone recommend a super basic beginner as3 coding book?

I've heard that Learning ActionScript 3, A Beginner's Guide is good but I've not read it. I have read Essential AS3 by Colin Moock, but that is not for beginners. I would suggest going to Amazon and searching ActionScript 3 and reading some of the reviews.

  • Good tutorials and e-books on JavaCard development?

Please advise if there are any e-books or good and detailed tutorials on JavaCard development. I have found some materials on JavaCard but non of those teaches you how to actually create JavaCard applications. For example to store and retrieve personal details.
    Thank you very much.

Actually a good way to learn is to look at sample codes, however a good book would be http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0201703297/sr=1-2/qid=1155738340/ref=pd_bbs_2/002-9993337-3908866?ie=UTF8&s=books
There are plenty of codes on SUN.

  • Need good AS3 pocket reference book

    Hello
Anyone knows any good actionscript 3 pocket reference book
    available or going to release?
It will be so helpful to have one with me all the time.

Colin Moock is a top choice. His Essential ActionScript 3.0
    isn't
coming out until June, but he did have an AS3 pocket
    reference from O'Reilly
already. Oddly, this book no longer seems to be available on
    Amazon, but if
you search the ISBN number online, you'll find a number of
    people still
    selling this book.

  • Anyone recommend a good user level reference book?

I just bought my first Mac ( 20 inch Intel iMac) and need a good reference book that covers OS X from a users standpoint (as opposed to a programmer's reference). It would be great if it also covered iLife, pre-installed utilities, etc. I'm an experienced computer user (from the Windows side of the world) and am looking for a reference book to help me make the transition to the Mac and OS X. I look forward to the day when I can take the last of my Windows computers to the recycling center, and work in a pure Mac environment.
