Good books for oracle
Hi Folks,
please suggest good books and any links to learn oracle database adminstration.
thanks,
Mike.
First read the 11.2 Concepts Guide http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25789/toc.htm (co-author is Tom Kyte one of best Oracle DB expert and "explainer").
Then you should read the Admin. Guide:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e25494/toc.htm
and
the Backup and Recovery Guide:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/toc.htm
If you want to a buy a book for beginners I recommend Beginning Oracle Database 11g Administration 11G http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1590599683/#reader_1590599683.
And of course, practice, practice, and .... practice.

Regarding Good book for Oracle Service Bus 11g
Hi All,
What is the good book for Oracle Service Bus 11g in the below list(or You can also specify any book other than from below list)?
1)Oracle Service Bus 11g Development Cookbook
2)Oracle Service bus in 21 days
3)The definitive guide to SOA:Oracle Service Bus,Second edition (or)first edition?
Can yOu help me out which is the good book for OSB?Hi Deilby,
Thank You for your reply.
According to my understanding(I don't know whether it is correct or not),If you want to have full-fledged OSB development,we need to have eclipse.
If you just need to have routing and transformation along with SOA suite development,We can use OSB console .
Can You also look into this below SOA forums thread with SOA-OSB questions? If I have 'Oracle
Service Bus 11g Development Cookbook' , Can I answer all those questions?
https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2559964?tstart=0
My intention is clear,I want to have full-fledged OSB development information(important components) and that leads to have good exposure to face questions.
Can You help me out to clarify my understanding and recommend the book according to that?
Note: I already worked on SOA Suite.I worked on OSB console. I think whatever we can do with OSB eclipse development the samething we can do with OSB console along with SOA suite.
Can You clarify on this? -

hi experts,
I am new to oracle dba field. Can you please suggest methe name of a good book.
Regards
RajatMaybe the best thing would be a course? Books are fine, but you will probably learn quicker by example. There are some reasonable CD-ROM/DVD courses out there (not naming any). Google for some and check their rating. I know of no single book that would offer as much as a decent course. Once you are up to speed, then, yes, you'll be seeking out the better books. Finally, the 2-day guides in Oracle's docs. are really worth reading, and re-reading. But the docs, by themselves, are a bit dry. If you can afford an Oracle University course, or (my preference) Learning Tree (and, no, I do not work for them, etc.), then go for that - you won't regret it.
All IMHO!

PS: Does not have to be the latest oracle 11 but anything at 9/10. I need to really pick up on using SQLPlus, and understand the files associated with oracle: table spaces, redo logs, archives, etc.Concepts:

Good book for Oracle warehouseBuilder -EMERGENCY PLEASE HELP
HELLO ALL
I REALLY NEED SOME ADVISE FROM WHICH RESOURCE (BOOK OR WEB SITE) FOR WAREHOUSE BUILDER TUTORIAL. I JUST START ON THIS PROJECT AND THEY ARE USING THIS SOFTWARE TO EXTRACT DATA . I AM PRETTY BRAND NEW WITH THIS SOFTWARE . PLEASE HELP THANK YOU SO MUCHTry "Oracle9iR2 Data Warehousing" by Lillian Hobbs et al.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1555582877/026-2153800-2301217
It's primarily about the 9ir2 platform for DW, but there's a good section on OWB 9i.
There's another book, "Oracle Express OLAP"
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1584500840/qid%3D1046697888/026-2153800-2301217
That has a big section on OWB 2/3i, probably not that relevant now if you're using the latest version.
There isn't a dedicated OWB book per se, these are the best two that I know of that have sections on OWB.

Can anyone suggest good book for Oracle Application Server OCA
I can tell you from personal experience that it is extraordinarily difficult to write a technical book with zero defects. Spell-checkers and grammar checkers produce huge numbers of false positives when looking for standard (i.e. non technical) errors. Technical errors are easy to introduce -- forget to add a 'Not' in a sentence, or something similar -- and hard to detect afterward. When I read through my study guides looking for errors, I tend to see what I meant to write.
That said, such defects are normally a tiny fraction of the information contained within certification manuals. A couple of reviews on the Oracle Press 1Z0-052 book written by John Watson mention a couple of errors and then imply the book is filled with more. I've read the book and it is very informative. It contains hundreds of pieces of information and contains about ten errors -- all mentioned in the errata on the McGraw Hill site. The books is good preparation for the text and for learning the basics of being an Oracle DBA.
As Aman indicated, using more than one source is a good way to help to detect inaccuracies. I believe in always using multiple sources and the documentation is generally a good option for that. -
Good book for learning pl/sql quickly
Please suggest me a good book that covers all aspects of pl/sql in depth.
Thanks in advance. :-)A good book for learning PL/SQL quickly?
That is not a function of the book. That is a function of your ability to learn and understand new concepts. No book can make you learn "faster".
Also, even before trying to learn PL/SQL, there are concepts and fundamentals to understand. Specifically:
- [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/toc.htm]Oracle® Database Concepts
- [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14251/toc.htm]Oracle® Database Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals
- [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14261/toc.htm]Oracle® Database PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference
And after that, also have a look at Application Developer's Guide - Large Objects, Application Developer's Guide - Object-Relational Features. Not to mention the SQL Reference and the PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference guides.

What's a good book for getting started?
I've been doing web design in HTML and ColdFusion for almost 3 years. It's clear that ColdFusion is on it's way out and I need to learn J2EE/Java/JSP etc. I have a few questions:
Java is a term I've heard associated with C++ and other types of programming as well as Web design. Are the Java/C++ Java and the Web Java basically the same type of language? Is the Web Java and JavaScript the same thing? I'm very confused!
What is a good book for getting these types of questions answered and getting started in J2EE/Java/JSP? There are quite a few variations of script languages out there and I want to make sure I learn the right stuff, ie the stuff that employers are going to be needing.
Thanks! Here is a free online version of a good book:
http://pdf.coreservlets.com/Core-Servlets-and-JSP.pdf
Print it off or read from the screen. Otherwise, there are several good Java books out there. What I would do is go to the bookstore and thumb through a few books. Depending on what type of book you want (example based or theory) find the books that you think would satisfy your learning style. Write down the names and authors, go home and buy them used online at Amazon for tremendous discounts. This way you can buy several versus just one. -

Suggest a good book for learning?
Hey, all.
Trying to get into the automating/scripting thing as I've started a new job that has to do a lot of versions of similar animations/illustrations. I'm no programmer, but have had some success with simple AppleScripts in Illustrator and Photoshop, but After Effects doesn't like to play nice with AS. So I figure I may as well focus my efforts on ExtendScript/JavaScript to work with all the apps, be cross-platform, plus help with my limited Expressions knowledge.
So can anyone suggest some good books for learning the JavaScript language? I've done online tutorials, which have helped a little, but just a big ol' consolidated JavaScript book, teaching the structure and syntax from the beginning (again, not a programmer by trade) would be best for me. Thing is, 95% of the books I've looked at are focused on web design, which I'm not that interested in. I'll use one if the core JavaScript teachings are well-presented and I can just ignore the web stuff; just don't want to buy a book that I'm only going to read half of and not learn everything I need to.
All suggestions welcome, and thanks in advance.Hi there - lots of resources...
Look up "eloquent javascript" online for a pdf.
