Good bye to the LAST PowerBook :(

I hope that the new MacBook is a worthy successor to the 12" PowerBook 1.5Ghz.
The PB 12" was and is a very nice computer. I will miss the PowerBook name and the happy memories of the line over the many years.

I've been a 12 PB user since the very first model. I still love it, but am wanting to get a new MacTel. I was really hoping they'd come out with a 12 MBP for the same reasons. The 15 is just way too big for my needs and I can't imagine having to type on any other keyboard. I'm sure most people will just tell me to get over it, but typing just isn't the same for me even when I'm on a desktop with a beautiful 23 inch display. I always get sick of pounding on an awful keyboard and invariably end up returning to my 12 PB.

Good Bye to the Old and Hello to the New!!

Just want to say that today i broke down and finally upgraded to the iPhone 4. Love it so far.......my old iPhone was the second (?) generation. It had the old metal back but surely served me well. About 6 months or so I accidentally put it through our washing machine and then into our dryer. After letting it dry out for 24 hours...no problems whatsoever! I was surprised but it worked right up to the time I bought the iPhone. I gave the old one to my son as an ipod. Why am I telling you all of this.....well it is hard to beat a phone that ws baptized and dried and still runs like clock work...er a phone

Let me be the 1st to congratulate you! I can share this happiness with you b/c I just bought my i4 yesterday!! I had a 3gs and LOVED it so much but really anxious to get my hands on the i4 because of the flash, processor, display and overall design. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to pass mine on as an ipod because I traded mine in for a discount on the i4 that I could't refuse!

As John indicates, the last PowerBook was discontinued in April 2006 and even that model could do very little in today's web-based computing environment.

However, no matter where you ask there are two common factors in heating:
--The programs/tasks you are doing
--The fact that no laptop has room for big fans means it will always run hotter doing the same tasks than will a desktop computer with big fans. Few laptops are good gaming platforms as a result.

Connecting the 1440x980 Powerbook to the TV, placement and cropping issues.

The last Powerbook I owned was the 1.87ghz 15inch at 1280x800 resolution. When I connected the computer to TV via s-video, everything was smooth, perfectly cropped and looked fantastic.
My new Powerbook, the last model Apple manufactured, has a 1440x960 resolution, and disappointing s-video output. After connecting the s-video to my TV, I connect to my Powerbook, hit Detect Displays and wait for a connection. The quality is perfect, but the image has a half inch black border on 3 sides and is flush with the right side of the TV.
Why am I having issues with this Powerbook? Is it the new resolution, bad video card? Is there any way to shift the image slightly or fill the remaining space?

Thanks for the tip, how do I change the refresh rate once the Powerbook is attached to the TV? The option seems to disappear once I hit Detect Displays.
I notcied that Overscan will get rid of the border, but then I have the problem of over-cropping and losing part of the image.

Show the last published documents in a view for a document library.

Hello!
At our company we have a document library with many documents. These documents are evolving and are therefore going from major versions to minor versions to major versions again. To be able to get a good overview of the last "official" versions
we would need to have a view that shows the last "Approved" versions of each document (if any approved versions exist). This is basically the same as watching the document library from a user that only own reading access and therefore only sees the
"published" versions.
In our case this view should be used by people that own editing rights as well to the documents.
Is it possible to accomplish this?

I understand that you have a document library that you have enabled content approval(if not, enable it) and versioning, then
you want to create a view to filter major(approved) documents, then you can filter on the ApprovalStatus field. Try to create a new standard view, filter the view when the ApprovalStatus is equal to Approved, then the view will display the published version
document.

Kernel panics are usually caused by a hardware problem – frequently RAM, a USB device or a Firewire device. What external devices do you have connected? When trying to troubleshoot problems, disconnect all external devices except your monitor, keyboard and mouse. Do you experience the same problems?
To eliminate RAM being the problem, Look at this link: Testing RAM @ http://guides.macrumors.com/Testing_RAM Then download & use Memtest & Ramber.
Do you have an Apple Hardware Test disc? Running the Apple Hardware Test in Loop Mode is an excellent troubleshooting step for finding intermittent hardware problems. It is especially useful when troubleshooting intermittent kernel panics. If Loop Mode is supported by the version of the Apple Hardware Test you are using, you run the Extended Test in Loop Mode by pressing Control-L before starting the test. Looping On should appear in the right window. Then click the Extended Test button.The test will run continuously until a problem is found. If a problem is found, the test will cease to loop, indicating the problem it found. If the test fails, be sure to write down the exact message associated with the failure.In some cases, RAM problems did not show up until nearly 40 loops, so give it a good run.

It worked the first day i had the phone, and then i updated to Ios 8.0.2 and it quit working.
Now when i get in the car, it acts like it is connected and makes the same call it was on after syncing to bluetooth, but it really isn't on a call. This is happening on both cars.
Does anyone know if this is the phone and i need to take it to Apple or if there is an issue that Apple is working on getting a fix for?
My son in law has the exact same phone as me, we both got the on 10/6, he had a Dodge Dart and his is working via bluetooth.
Someone HELP please, as i consider this a safety issue by not having my calls go to bluetooth.

We had the same problem, but figure out the solution.
You MUST have at least 1 song added to your ITUNE! After you add a free song, then everything else should work as normal!

I need to find a good (reliable) Zip program for my MacBook Pro (the last one I downloaded installed Spyware on my system...so now I'm "gun-shy" about downloading ANYTHING to my system)

I have used WinZip in the past (I'm a former Windows user) but I hear that this program isn't very good on a Mac...any recommendations?

The last Zip program I downloaded to my system was Zipeg and it LITTERED my system (no joke, I had to go to the Genius Bar to have everything removed).

Mac OS X actually has a built-in ZIP tool that can both unzip files and zip files. However older versions of OS X do not cope well with password protected zip files and it maybe some of your zip files also use newer options your old operating systems correspondingly old zip tool does not support.
I would therefore echo the suggestion of Illaass and recommend you get the free Stuffit Expander tool.
For what its worth you now can actually buy a version of WinZip for the Mac, see http://www.winzip.com/mac/en/index.html I have not used it as I find the built-in zip tool in newer OS X versions along with Stuffit Expander sufficient. I have also written an Automator workflow which allows me to create password protected zip files.

Try doing it in a WIndows Safe mode - Restart computer and hit F8 key right after your see BIOS check and choose "Safe mode with networking"
Do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that does not work, whilst in safe mode, download Free Malwarebyte software from CNET's Download.com. Install, update virus definition then perform a full scan. Remove if it did find some viruses or trojans. Restart computer.
Back to regular windows, do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that doesnot work, check to see if your Hard drive has errors or bad sectors
GO START BUTTON /COMPUTER, right mouse click OS (C:) and choose "Properties"
Choose "Tools" tab and under error checking, click "Check Now".
Make sure "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked and click start.
Restart windows will perform the above task to fix errors This may take hours depends on how big is your Hard Drive

Making a small change to an old project - How do I know what versions of Drivers and RIO etc was used for the last good build?

If I want to make a small change to a legacy project of years ago, I want to limit my risk by using the exact same versions of LabVIEW, NI-RIO etc. So I check out the project from the repo, but I don't know how to check what versions were used when the last know good build was made. I don't want to introduce issues by mass-recompiling to the latest version.
What is best practice in this case? I could, before every repo commit, take a screenshot of MAX's software tree and save this in the project folder.
Any ideas?

The report is a great idea! I store both a max technical report and a project.NCE (HW config export) with each of my projects for this exact reason. Those files have sure come in handy!
Also- its a good idea to make an image of the target as accepted and archive it somewhere. ESPECIALLY for PXI based systems from NI. (When the customer comes back for a "duplicate" just send the image with the PO and the system arrives fully configured)

Is the Creative zen micro a good bye or a bad

I heard alot of horror stories about creative zen micros freezing and the headphone jacks are not working so I want ask your opinion is the creative zen micro a good bye or a cheap urelieable mp3 player. I love the design and the colors and the extra features but is the player relieable or nice to look at but really senseti've. If buying the creative zen is going to be this big investment then maybe i should get an ipod its just the ipod seems so less in comparison.Please reply so that i might have a greater understanding on what to buy.

I agree with Kerndrone. People come here mostly to look for solutions to their problems. This constitutes a lot to the negati've talk. Also,how many would purposely come into a forum just to praise a player?
ipods aren't great either. I feel that they are just an overpriced piece of gadget with very few features - whatever the zen has, the ipods doesn't (i.e. FM radio/recorder,voice recorder, simple organiser) .On the other hand, whatever the ipod has, the zen also has (with the exception of games, which i think is dumb. An audio player, as its name suggests, it for the purpose of AUDIO, some SIMPLE games? it's so dumb, i'll rather play my mobile phone's, which has color, and nicer to view.)
Further, the Zen comes with much more accessories than the ipods - velvet pouch, craddle + stand + belt clip + charger + USB cable + earphones. ipods don't come with chargers, i think. The charger is pretty expensi've S$69, and the earphones cost S$49 if bought separately.

Using ipad1, why do my pictures in a new folder i just ceated are not in a good order? all my other older folders are in the right order but not the last one i synchronised

I never had this problem before. My photos are mixed in my new folder of my IPad1 with ios version 5.1.1
. Usually, they are in alphabetical order like in any usual folder, but not this time .I synchronised with ITunes with the usb connector. How can I put back in the right order my pictures? I was just told (by apple's help desk) that IPad IOS 5.1.1 sorts photos by the last date modified instead of by alphanumerical order. What a foolish idea? Is there something we can do about this? all the pictures appear but can only be shown clicking in the Catalog Panel in LR, they are all included within the ¨all pictures¨ and in ¨ Previus import ¨ ... the previus import are all the photos i cannot see within folders ..

Yes, when i click show in finder, it takes me to the HD and shows me the right folder the picture is in. The folders in the HD show the order and titles i defined on lightroom .. so the folders i defined in lightroom were registered correctly in the HD but are no longer shown in the folder panel in LR

Where would you expect to retrieve those deleted message if you didn't backup your phone?
