Good cheap earbuds

Hi all
Recently got my Zen Touch and like most I suppose, decided to change the earphones as, even though they made a good sound, were too big to fit comfortably in my flappers!
Now I'm not a purist like some on here - I dunno anything about tones and ranges - I just know what sounds good TO ME!!
I've got some Seinheiser MX500's and though they're better for me and produce a nice sound, they were still too big for my missus' little ears. I didn't fancy paying big money for top of the range Sony's etc, but if I had to - then so be it!!
I looked on Ebay first, and luckily found a pair that looked worth a bash, though I didn't REALLY think they'd be any good as they were only 5 QUID!! (The link off the page pointed to me to the manufacturer's web site where the stated price was ?9 - though they were actually priced at ?5 on the page! [http://www.soundwise.co.uk/ ])
I got them yeaterday...what a suprise! The sound, to my ears at least, is as good as the Steinheiser's and I've just been enjoying Joss Stone through them and she sounds superb... I normally have the volume at 8-20-ish on the Steinheiser's, but on the in-ear ones it's nice at 4 or 5.
Just in case you're thinking - NO I'm not an employee of Soundwise or something (I'd hardly tell you you can get 'em off Ebay if I was!) - I just thought I'd point out you don't have to spend a fortune to get a nice rich sound.
Cheers

Try eBay. Or Craigslist. Or a local computer/electronics swap meet.

  • Good (cheap) second monitor for 20"CD

    I am looking for a second (LCD) monitor for my 20" Core Duo. It doesn't need to be top of the line for video or photo editing or anything like that: I just want more real estate and want to take advantage of the Core Duo's ability to use extended desktop mode.
    Anyway, does anyone have any tips on a good but cheap sceond monitor? I am looking at a 19" size.
    So far, the best deal I have found is a Viewsonic 19" for $259 on ZipZoomFly (delivery included). It says it is Mac and PC compatible (says it will work with G3,G4,G5 Macs and that it has VGA for PC, so it should work with my intel iMac? I have a mini-DV to VGA adapter I bought with the machine.). I am familiar with Viewsonic and consider them to be ok.
    Any other suggestions?

    Try a hardware calibrator one monitor at a time. They have gotten somewhat cheaper though no great bargains. You ran the expert mode Apple Colorsync calibrator on each by eye? If so didn't the color discrepancies appear then?
    Any pro digital labs where you live - one here in Toronto will come and color match up to 5 monitors for $100.

  • Seeking a LogicPro bass that sounds good on earbuds or heavy speakers?

    Some people will listen to my music on earbuds and some through speakers with heavy magnets -- the bass sound in particular is notably different in these two venues. I'm seeking a bass instrument (guitar? upright? unknown?) that can be heard over the full range of speakers, from the nearly nonexistent bass inside an Air, to the acceptable but low fidelity earbuds, to heavy floor speakers with the ability to shake the windows. I don't want to shake the windows, but I do want to be heard through the Air. Can these two extremes ever meet for a bass instrument?

  • Can anyone recommend a good, cheap external CD/DVD burner?

    I have a PowerBook G4 without CD/DVD writing capabilities, so I would like to get an external drive. Can anyone recommend one that is compatitible, reliable, and CHEAP? Thanks!

    The only ones I'd recommend are the ones by http://www.macsales.com/ They are the ones that are known to be Mac OS X compatible. Others may be compatible with the added http://www.patchburn.de/ or firmware updates which are noted on http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/

  • Good, cheap, non-tomcat servlet container?

    Specifically, not using the Jasper jsp compiler, as it can't be counted on to recompile a changed .jsp (see http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=33453). I am frustrated with Apache software quality and (lack of)support, and searching for alternatives to Tomcat. It would also have to either work with JBoss or include an EJB stack with similar functionality to JBoss.
    I have looked at Sun Application Server, which appears to use Tomcat in its entirety, and Jetty, which uses Jasper.

    Here's a quote from Resin ML archive:
    <quote>
    From Resin users ML archive:
    Q:
    I have a general question about the most effective way to process JSP page
    updates.
    My impression of the JSP engine is that in the event of a change to the JSP
    file (changed file modification date), the JSP page is automatically
    recompiled and reloaded. This is a great feature -- it means you have the
    flexibility that is often found in interpreted languages like Perl in terms
    of not having to restart the server when changes are made.
    Unfortunately for me, that flexibility breaks down when I start including
    JavaBeans, or other Java classes into my JSP pages through the "import"
    directive. There doesn't seem to be any way to make a JSP page also
    dependent on another external class file, and to force recompilation if
    that external class file
    Here's an example...
    start of file MyJSP.jsp...
    <@ page language=java
    import="com.mycompany.MyClass,caucho.sql.db.*,java.io.*" />
    ....some JSP code mixed with HTML....
    end of file MyJSP.jsp
    For the above JSP file, the servlet engine doesn't seem to recognize that
    the JSP page is dependent on the file "com.mycompany.MyClass". If I make
    any changes to the file MyClass.java and recompile, the changes won't take
    effect until I restart the servlet engine.
    Any thoughts on how to make a JSP file explicitly dependent on another
    external file?
    I suppose you could try to use a utility like make to help manage
    dependencies, but this gets ugly -- especially for compiled JSP page
    servlet classes which are temporary anyways. Any suggestions for a solution
    to this problem?
    ----- Bryan Bunch
    A:
    You don't actually need to recompile the JSP pages, you just need them
    reloaded. JSP pages are just like any other Java classes; you usually can
    compile classes independently. The only case where you need the JSP pages
    recompiled is if you change 'final static' constants.
    If your classes are in the global classpath, there's nothing Resin can do. I
    don't know how you're loading your classes like com.mycompany.MyClass.
    However, you can put them in WEB-INF/classes or in a jar in WEB-INF/lib. When
    any class/jar in either changes, Resin will reload the entire application
    including any JSPs. I'm pretty sure this is what you want.
    Resin lets you add to the auto-update class path. Here's how:
    <http-server>
    <classpath id='/home/myhome/ws/classes'/>
    <classpath id='/home/myhome/ws/myjar.jar'/>
    </http-server>
    If any of the classes in /home/myhome/ws/classes changes, Resin will reload
    the application just like it reloads a JSP.
    If you're really daring, you can have Resin compile your beans for you.
    (There are a few important bugs fixed in the latest snapshot, so you would
    want to use the snapshot.) That way, you get auto-compilation and
    auto-loading of your beans when you change any Java source. This is certainly
    helpful for small test cases, but it can get confused for large projects.
    <classpath id='/home/myhome/ws/classes' source='/home/myhome/ws/src'/>

  • What's a good cheap computer that will be used for email , facebook games and off line games ,

    my computer has a bad moteher board and i want to buy a new one. i play facebook games and my bf wants to play his offline civilization games. i do not want to spend more than $300.00.

    A $300 computer will most likely BARELY be able to handle Flash Facebook games, but, should be able to handle an older game like the original Civilization games.
    Are you going to need a new monitor, or just a tower? Is the $300 including tax, because if so, even the absolute cheapest computer that Best Buy carries is over that.
    If you like my post, or solution to your issue/question, go ahead and click on the little star by my name and/or accept the post as the Solution. It makes me happy.
    I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year 5 years ago. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
    Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

  • Good, cheap VPN for personal use?

    I want to start using a VPN for home and when i use my PB at hotspots. Don't want to spend alot per month. I've heard of a couple VPN services like VforVPN and hotspot VPN. Anyone have experience with these or any other suggestions?
    thx
    lenn

    witopia VPN is extremely fast. i have a fios fiber connection and I don't even notice when it is on. amazingly, it actually seems to increase my upload speed too. I use Skype with it a lot, and again, it actually seems to improve the voice quality. I've used it since 2005 and it's been very reliable. best of all, it's only $40 for openVPN AND a PPTP account (I use on my iPhone). Not sure why it's so much less expensive, but who cares?

  • Can't install quicktime or itunes I recieve error code 2738.  I'm running windows Vista 32 with Service Pack 2.  I have tried old and new version of both programs.  Also, have gone through Apple's online help with no good outcome

    Can't install quicktimeor uninstall it for that matter and itunes I receive error code 2738 with both downloads.  I'm running Window Vista with Service Pack 2.  I have check for all window update.  I have gone through Apple itune help list.  Even going into cmd to do regsvr32 vbscript.dll which was successfull. Can you help...my son had to register his ipod at the neighbors house..What going on.
    Son even call apple with no help and was give Microsoft number no help there either they wanted me to call HP.....run around

    Excellent news!
    Strange how sometimes the fixit works better than the manual methods, and sometimes the manual methods work better than the fixit. It differs from Microsoft fixit to Microsoft fixit too. (Unfortunately, because these "anomalous 2738s" are pretty rare as install errors go, I don't have a good feel yet for whether or not it's the fixit or the manual method that's more likely to work in iTunes/QuickTime installation contexts.)
    Afraid I'm not very good on earbud troubleshooting, but fingers crossed the folks over at the iPod communities might be able to help:

  • Where can I find a cheap RAM upgrade compatible with an early 2008 macbook 2.1ghz so I can run lion?

    Question says it all really. Looked on amazon at a few but am not sure if they will be compatible or not. Just looking for something cheap but which will get me up to date with lion as it requires at least 2Gb and I'm currently only running the standard 2x 512Mb that it came with. Thanks.

    The model 4,1 (Early 2008) can use 6gb of 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM
    These are good online stores for Mac compatible RAM
    OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/ - Similar to DMS, they offer Mac tested RAM at very good prices.
    Crucial Memory http://www.crucial.com/ - good place to buy RAM from all over the world. They also have an excellent memory selector that allows you to choose memory based on your computer's model

    Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly. Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
    Before Mac switched to Intel processors they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

  • 7300GT any good for games over imac X1600XT?

    Hi,
    I have been waiting for the mac pro and have been using a standard 17" intel imac in the meantime. I have found it great for games like Quake 4, Doom 3 and Call of Duty 2 etc but now that the mac pros are out i intend to buy one. The thing i'd like to know is how will the 2ghz version with the standard 7300gt video card stack up aginst the imac with the standard x1600xt? The frame rates don't look that hot on apples web site but i just need it to play at least as good as the imac. I don't have the cash for any of the upgrade cards.
    Ant thoughts welcome!

    I would exactly say that the 7300GT is a slouch. Far from it. What you have to remember is that put up against cards like the ATI X1900 it looks shameful. The 7300GT is a good, cheap, middle performing display card.
    Michael Schumacher's F1 Ferarri is a quick little beast. Thing is, put it up against Captain Kirk's Enterprise and it's shamefully slow.

  • Quality headphones or earbuds for iPod (obviously :-)

    I know there are other topics about this, but I prefer to post a separate one as my question is a little more specific than just "please just recommend me new headphones".
    So, I'd like to get new earbuds/headphones for my iPod. I've been recommended Sennheiser's PX 200 headphones by many people. I like them, however, I think I would prefer earbuds if possible. Thus I'm also looking at Shure's E2Cs and Etymotic Research 6i Isolators. They are about twice the price of the Sennheisers.
    What do owners of these headphones/earbuds think of them ? Has anyone got both PX 200-like headphones and good quality earbuds, and how do they compare (if I go for the more expensive earbuds, I'd like to benefit from a better sound) ? I've heard that Shure's earbuds were difficult to put into your ears : is it true ?
    I'm welcome to any suggestion of good-quality headphones and earbuds, as long as they can be found on the Apple Store online (it's more convenient for me).
    Thanks in advance to all of you.

    Sorry about that. Please, let me be very clear here... the Sennheiser had great bass and had what I can describe as full sound. The Shures were great, but really lacked bass. I had them fitting very snugly and the sealed quite nicely in my ears; however, the absence of bass was too noticeable for me. Perhaps, if I had never owned the Sennheiser, I would never have noticed, but it is like driving a Yugo your whole life and then trying a Hyundai. It is a huge improvement; however, get a person in a BMW and they will never be able to say that the Hyundai is the best again. I hope that helps.

    I'm in the market for a consumer oriented dv-vtr player. I've looked around but mostly I'm finding pro-players way out of my price range...
    Any models that are extra good???

    I think you will find that even the cheapest cost more than a high quality camera.
    Many amateurs either use the camera they shoot with or buy a cheap camera to act as a VTR. You can get a good cheap one for a quarter the price of a proper VTR.
