Good converter for MXF files?

Could I please get some recommendations on easy to use converters for the MXF files that the Canon XF300 makes.  Some members of our production team are using Premiere Elements and they won't go into that software.  I'd like something that can batch convert if possible.  When I google search I get plenty of options, but I'd prefer some actual recomendations on what you guys use.  This will be for non-advanced users, so "easy to use" is key here.

Canon adopts MPEG-2 for the XF series Professional Camcorder as the Canon XF Codec to ensure their videos have the widest compatibility with existing industry infrastructure and non-linear editing (NLE) systems. And with the MXF file wrapper, video and audio can be wrapped in a single file along with important metadata.
But if you are the user of Canon XF series( Canon XF100/XF105/XF300/XF305 or Canon C300) or Panasonic P2 series, you will encounter the problem while importing the MXF files to Adobe Premiere Pro 6.0 or its earlier versions of CS4, CS5, CS5.5, or even Premiere Elements, you may see the error "ERROR COMPILING MOVIE: UNKNOWN"coming up when exporting a movie composed of MXF clips, whether it's to AVI, H.264, etc., this error comes up, in particular when the movie is "long", i.e. a half minute to a minute. Otherwise, with short clips there is no problem.
It's enough to make you want to pull your hair out. The Internet is full of discussions on this issue, but we don't know why Adobe can't fix it? The bottom line, however, is that once you convert your MXF files to H.264 MOV using Brorsoft MXF Converter, there are absolutely no problems regardless of file lengt...which in our case is perhaps a four minute movie.

    Russ and Luis,
I did uninstall and re-install Canon XF Utility and the Canon FCPX plug in.   Still no luck.  I checked the CanonXF64.RADPlug folder is on my computer in the Rad Plugins folder in application support  This is where it is supposed to be as far as I can figure out.
Another piece of the puzzle is that  footage shot on a Canon C300 in 2013 and  I reimported today and it DOES import into FCP10.1.3.   Footage shot on a different Canon C300 filmed this summer will NOT import into FCPX.  The latter will import into Premiere. But I am trying to work in FCPX, but maybe I shouldn’t be??
    Any ideas?  (screen shots below)
    Thanks.
    Peace, Huey
FYI Here is what Canon says
"There is another trick that works sometimes though.  Try uninstalling the plugin and XF Utility.  Then, install the latest XF Utility, followed by the plugin, in that order."
I did do this but no results.  Otherwise they say I need to wait for a new plugin.
Here's 2014 Canon C300 files does NOT import to FCPX
Here's 2013 Canon C300 files does import into FCPX.  I thought it was Contents folder but another set of footage shot on C300 does import and there is no contents folder for that.

  • Converter for MTS File?

Is any converter for convert MTS file to quick time?
    do anyone know it?
    Thx...

MTS format is a high-definition MPEG, AVC, H.264 transport stream video file format which commonly used by HD camcorders such as Sony, Canon, Panasonic.MTS files are used primarily with Sony hardware. Camcorders make use of MTS in the form of AVCHD, a recording format made specifically for camcorders. Some camcorder models from Canon also use MTS files. These files are also present on Blu-ray disc compilations, therefore they are capable of storing quite a large amount of information and data tracks.
Since mts is not a mac suitable video format, so it's necessary to convert it with mts converter for mac, you can choose the output video format as quicktime mp4.
Hope you resolve your problem asap!

  • DNG converter for RAW files

I have been using Dng converter to convert RAW files from an unsupported camera (Olympus sp350) for importing into iphoto. Unfortunately the latest version of iphoto (9.2) does not seem to be compatible with the latest Adobe dng converter (6.3.0.79). Any suggestions?

The first thing to point out is that the release candidate will not recognize the new small raw format. You'll have to shoot the full-sized raw images. The other thing to be aware of is that, in the DNG converter, when being prompted for the location of your raw images, it is asking for the FOLDER. Choose the folder, but don't open it. Then the DNG converter will convert the raw files contained within that folder.
If you want to shoot TIF, you would probably have better image data to work with than you would with JPEG images. But it still wouldn't be as flexible, and you wouldn't have as many options as you would shooting raw. Try the DNG converter with my suggestions and see if it works for you.

  • Log and Transfer for MXF files (Canon 300XF) suddenly doesn't work

I've searched for a solution and I've pulled out a few hairs...
    We have 2 identical FCP7 MacPro workstations (2x2.66 dual-core Xeon, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT, 256MB VRAM, OSX 10.6.8).
Both systems have successfully ingested MXF files captured by a Canon 300XF using Canon's XF plugin for FCP.
    Until today.
One system doesn't ingest the footage anymore.  One still does.
The faulty system sees the footage in Log and Transfer, but as we add the footage to the queue, the red exclaimation point pops up.  Hovering over the alert gives us: ERROR: UNKNOWN.
Nothing has changed in either system.
    Any ideas?  Gremlins maybe?
    Thanks!

...and a Canon XF Utility software uninstall/reinstall solved it.
    Oops.
Should have tried that before the 17 other things we tried.

  • Please add support for MXF files created by Blackmagic Hyperdeck Studio

We have a Hyperdeck Studio that records DNxHD220 files in a MXF wrapper. Right now it is not possible to import them into Premiere CS5.5.
It would be great if Adobe would add support for those files.

  • Premier CS6 importer error for mxf files

I can't import any mxf file into Premier CS6. I don't really understand this situation.
I have intalled Canopus.HQ.CODEC.v6.0.7 and for example my vlc media player plays fine all of my mxf files.
Can anybody help me solve this issue?
    Thanks

Probably because they want to be able to investigate the exact type of mxf file it actually is. Because I edit mxf files with Premiere cs6 fairly regularly and I never have issues. So obivously something is either different with that specific type of mxf or something is corrupted which I doubt. Could you upload a small test file? So we can see if it will import into Premiere on our systems. Also since you're saying they digitized them using a canopus capture device/card and or software I'm thinking you may need that software and or the specific codec installed on your system in order to actually make use of that type of file.
I'd recommend downloading the entire "canopus playback codec pack". This should solve your issue. However I have no way to promise it will, I'm fairly sure it should work... Simply google "Canopus Playback Codec Pack" and the first result will give you the info your need to get the full playback package. I'm guessing this your problem.

  • Good design for property files?

    Hi
Id like to put the property file for my application in the users home folde, and on any *nix OS (Linux, Unix, OS X,..) thats a good solution if i simply make a .xxx directory (a directory starting with a '.'), and then the user cant see the directory by default, and then place all my configuration there under. But is this a good cross platform design, or is there a better way?
    /Thanks

I think it's pretty decent/standard. I believe System.getProperty("user.home") will give you C:\Documents and Settings\username by default on Windows XP--on my machine there are a couple of .folder configuration directories in there for other java programs (rssowl and jprofiler)

  • Adobe Camera Raw in Premier Pro. This is a good idea for CinemaDNG files.

Adobe, I will be cool if the was a ARC plugin in premier pro. Here is a simpler solution. I own in Blackmagic cinema camera, but my BMD LOG camera profiles are in After Effects. I like to grade from LOG profiles. In a test, in premier I imported my DNG files and edit. Then replaced with After effects comp, when after effects opened ACR opened. BUT it just opened the first file not the whole sequence!!!!!!!!!!!.
    to clarify
    1. import DNG sequence in premier and edit
    2. select edits and open as comp in After effects
    3. ACR opens, I edit as normal in ACR  (IT ONLY EDIT THE FIRST FRAME IN SEQUENCE) which it only shows.
if you allow us to select all frames and sync and save like ACR in Bridge that would be dope!
Plus go back in premier and make edits, that would be cooler.
or the coolest is to just have a ACR plugin for premier pro.

ohh, yes, it's will be nice..

  • Where is a good source for text files?

    Hi
I've just finished implementing a huffman tree and been testing it out. It seems to be working fine - encoding and decoding results look correct.
However, I really want to test this tree out with a larger 'dictionary', so that I can construct a larger tree and check if performance is any slower. Does anyone know where I can find a collection of large text documents that I can easily download and have my code run over it?
I tried googling, but haven't came across anything useful. Ideally, I would like to find documents of different topics. e.g. medical, computing, and a more general type that resembles everyday language. The reason I am wanting these is so I can test the encoding of different text on different tree types. Thus, encoding a computer journal on a tree constructed from the frequencies of a medical text file, should yield poorer compression than encoding the same computer journal on a tree constructed from the frequencies of a computing text file.
    Thanks

Google "project gutenberg" for a bunch of text.
Plain ASCII isn't enough for pictures and many fields' texts. So a lot of modern texts tend to be PDFs and such, which might not suit your purpose.
Maybe you could also use web pages as test data. Write a program that googles for "medical", downloads the first 100 hits, optionally replaces <.*> with a space, and runs your program on that.

  • Is Bridge a good tool for keeping files in multiple environments?

Is Bridge capable of being a good digital assets manager?  For example, we have a "public to the company internally", "public externally" and "private to marketing" main categories we work with in regards to our images.  I have a pretty good idea of using Bridge for meta data (category, keyword, etc), but what's the best way to use it for master image management and web sharing hi-res images?
    Thanks
    Jason

Bridge is not really designed for being a digital assest manager for multiple users.  In addition use of Bridge on a network can be problematic.  So it will work, but may not be best fit.
Since time is money you might look into a DAM product and see if it might work better.

  • Good setting for DV files?

Okay, I'm trying not to be impatient with FCPX, but I learned today that the numerous cameras that we use record in a format that FCPX won't import.
DV. I thought that that was a fairly universal format in the reporting field.
So now I have to batch files for the next few weeks until we upgrade our cameras (we still us SD, so upgrades are needed!).
Which compressor setting should we use for basic DV, 720x480? My first batch imported with no audio, yet the files had audio when played in Quicktime (?). My second batch conversion showed up as unimportable.
    Please explain a reliable setting????

We use six Sony1080i's. The DV files are saved onto a card, then moved to a network.
As I was teaching FCPX to the editors, we were unable to import the files from a pen drive (network was down). They neglected to also copy the IDX files, so I assumed we'd found the problem.
Today, network is fine, but we're still getting "no importable files".
A sister TV station sent 2 techs that use FCPX daily, and they're stumped.
Right now we're testing the camera to record as AVI... any other suggestions? The problem seems to source at the camera and FCX, as the DV files play in Quicktime and Compressor, WITHOUT the IDX's.

  • P2/MXF files in FCP

    Hi, fellow FCP freaks...
Anyone in here who know when it will be possible to edit directly from P2/MXF files in FCP? I have Raylight, but it is not perfect, it´s okay but not perfect.
I´m getting tired of converting 1440x1080 into Quicktime - complete waste of time

    +You're not wrong David,+
+but i'm in PAL land and was looking to buy in pounds sterling,+
    +i realised this http://www.raylight.co.uk/+
    +was not right+
We sell throughout the world and many customers in the UK so I don't think that's a problem, use your credit card or paypal and the dollars are converted from pounds. The link is http://dvfilm.com/raylight/mac
Also here is something new http://dvfilm.com/MXFX
This was mainly driven by needs from Avid users, who need the moral equivalent of the Panasonic frame rate converter for MXF files. But it may have some applicability to FCP as well, for image rotation of 35mm lens adapters
(so you can see your clips right side up, but without recompression), and
    noise reduction.
